Sadie and Clark fell hard for each other from the first breathtaking kiss of their whirlwind relationship. With her demanding career as an orthopedic trauma surgeon, Sadie never expected to be lucky enough to marry a handsome, good-hearted man who happily sets aside his carpenter’s tools to be a stay-at-home dad.
Everything is perfect until their hopes for a second child result in loss after devastating loss. Instead of working through their heartbreak together, Sadie throws herself into work to escape her grief, leaving Clark isolated in his.
With the distance growing between them, Sadie’s uncertain she can open up enough to let Clark love this shattered version of herself. But if she doesn’t find a way to reconnect with her husband, even her skilled hands won’t be able to repair her broken marriage.
Laura Langa is an award-winning sweet romance author. She strives to write stories that pull at her readers’ heartstrings and create relatable characters you can’t help but root for. Laura loves trees and all things green, hates flossing but forces herself to do it every night, drinks tea—not coffee, and believes that salt air can often cure a bad mood.
I never thought of what a man felt at a miscarriage. Usually they cheat in most romance books, but this guy Clark is a good good man. I got mad at Sadie a couple of times, and I chastised myself. I don't know how a woman feels after a miscarriage and I was ashamed of my judging. I loved the ending but getting there was pretty heart wrenching for sure. But its worth the read. Safe and free in KU.
I embarked on this mission with a heavy heart and some misgivings, because I have a history of miscarriage - 5 before giving birth to my son and 2 after, before giving up and learning to be thankful for at least succeeding that 1 time. Still, I didn't want to miss being on this ARC, and decided some soul-cleaning trip on memory lane was due, even 20 years later.
It's not just that this book is very close to the reality of how it all happens, but it also is beautifully written, all pain, heartbreak, grief and loss so starkly conveyed in talented writing. It's true, having a taxing but enjoyable career helps you get through it, and also the love and patience of a good man. I wonder how many marriages didn't survive these overwhelming odds?
It's a wonderful book not only for being the work of a very talented writer, but it will probably help a lot of women to try to overcome this devastating loss and save their relationship, which will not survive if the love is not true. To write on this subject takes courage in a world bent on escapism, at least for me reading is an escape from the daily grind of reality.
Thank you, Ms. Langa, for making me need to go to my husband, embrace him and tell him I love him after reading this book.

This book was so good. This author has become my favorite with all 3 of her books. Book is so deeply moving and thought provoking. It shows how easily marriage can get so hard. Communication is the key.
Sadie and Clark. These two. So much delicious angst. Ms. Langa did a great job portraying how their relationship declined through heartbreaking circumstances. It was so satisfying to watch the two of them come back together in a beautiful way after going through so much. The "marriage in trouble" is tricky to do well, but Ms. Langa helped me see why and how they drifted apart in a realistic way; you as the reader truly understand both characters and are rooting for them. I also enjoyed reading about the medical side in seeing Sadie at work. I won't spoil it but *such* a satisfying ending. Ms. Langa is quickly becoming an auto-buy for me!

I loved everything about this book. EVERYTHING. From the realistic characters to the author's writing style. Perhaps most importantly, however, was the storyline. Between Our Hearts is the story of a husband and wife who are drifting further apart as they struggle to deal with the heartbreak of miscarriage. The author beautifully, poignantly conveys the deep pain and grief both parents endure after losing a child they've never had a chance to meet, as well as the ways in which that grief can tear apart a rock-solid relationship. The main characters, Clark and Sadie, are fictional characters, but they are real - they're possibly you, your friend or mother or uncle or coworker. Miscarriage is a type loss that is not often stigmatized and hidden, but many people experience. The author has done a fantastic job of bringing this unfortunate reality for many into the light in a raw, emotional, beautiful story.
Between Our Hearts by Laura Langa is an emotional story about a married couple dealing with the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages. My reaction to this one surprised me. As a woman, I automatically thought I would empathize with Sadie. Much to my surprise it was Clark who I found myself sympathizing with. Clark is a wonderfully supportive husband and father. You can literally feel his pain, sadness and frustration as he tries to find ways to get through to a wife that has shut him out. Sadie definitely had agonizing moments that jumped from the page. However, these were offset for me by the way she continuously disregarded Clark’s feelings. A beautifully written story from two different points of view, about love, loss, insecurity and the courage to find your way back.
I received and ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
I loved this book, not only because the subject of miscarriage touches me on a personal level, but because the story of Sadie and Clark is so emotional and so realistic on so many levels. The author’s masterful depiction of the couple’s complicated feelings and experiences lent authenticity to the story, pulling me in from the very beginning.
I admit I shed a tear or two, but it was for Clark more than for Sadie, whose almost total disregard for her husband’s feelings irritated me at times. Clark’s pain and frustration are so palpable and raw, I wanted to reach inside the book and hug him. I may have developed a soft spot for Clark, but Sadie’s disconnect from her husband makes her heartbreakingly authentic and human.
A beautifully written story. I look forward to reading more by Laura Langa.
Sadie and Clark start with a great bond and tight knit family. When they try for a second child, time after time the results are awful and the pain splits them apart. This story is about how a couple brings their marriage back from the brink, with heartwarming forgiveness and support. Loved the characters and the detailed emotions and feelings that followed them. The storyline flowed well and the directions they could go were well laid out. Wonderfully demonstrated how strong the trauma gets when things fail. Great ending of hope and strength.

I was feeling a bit guilty about how I felt towards Sadie until I read some reviews and saw that others felt the same way. We all handle things differently and I'm the person who lets my feelings be known, without hurting anyone, and I want to know others feelings as well.
My heart goes out to anyone, including the spouse, who has a miscarriage and I can't imagine having three. It bothered me how Sadie withdrew from Clark and Lottie. This was a sad/happy story that I do recommend.
I also recommend My Heart Before You and A Guarded Heart by this author.
Sadie and Clark are two people that let despair get between them and their marriage. These two had to learn how to let the other know what they where feeling. I enjoyed seeing them find a way to help each other past some very rough times, even with their ups and downs. A well written story with a very good storyline that held my interest until the end. A beautiful love story. One of the most emotional stories I’ve ever read. The love Sadie & Clark have for each other is beautiful. While I have not experienced the heart ache they have, I was so drawn into these characters that their pain & their love overwhelmed me. If you have experienced their heart ache be prepared for an emotional read and I hope their story will give you the strength to get from one day to the next.
Great read! Interesting twist on pregnancy and true love for each other . Great storyline about Sadie and Clark and their deep love for each other and their desire for another child. They go through a lot, especially Sadie physically, for a second child, but communication is lost for a while between this couple. Plenty of intrigue and interest written into this story and found this story to be a very compassionate and heartfelt story. Highly recommend this story.
This is my latest Laura Langa read and I’m finding that her books don’t disappoint. Her handling of this subject, the impact on the husband and wife and the challenge for their lives and their relationship was so carefully told. The character development was such that the actions of the two were very believable. I highly recommend it and her writing in general.
Wow, I'm shocked at how authentic the author made the mix of emotions come across. I know for some, they will have felt differently but for me it rang true and transported me back to the dark days. It was a hard but cathartic read.

This is a heartbreaking look into how miscarriage can effect the wife and husband as individuals and a couple. Sadie and Clark are trying for a second child when she losses it making them both try to deal with the hurt separately instead of as a couple.
I received this book in return for an honest review. I did enjoy this book a lot although Sadie did get on my nerves being quite so self obsessed and the outcome of the story was a little predictable, hence the 4 star review not 5. Thanks.

The subject of miscarriage woven into a romance seems inconsistent; yet it was definitely a wonderful romance. The characters were so real as you can peak into the subject.
I thought this was an amazing book. I loved the dual POV. There were not much language or inappropriate scenes throughout the book. I thought the author did a good job discussing these difficulties topics.
This one made me cry. TW:multiple miscarriages. Sadie and Clark are married and struggling. She’s lost 3 babies and feels like she isn’t good enough for her husband. He’s a stay at home dad raising their only daughter and he is watching his wife slip away from him.

I cry at commercials for sappy cards. So it is no wonder that this story made me cry. Not heart wrenching sobs but tears. I truly enjoyed the fact the hey pi hard work into their relationship. Wonderful.
It’s just the preview. A very real story. I’ve faced that myself. I’m not wanting to know of more like the beginning. I need more hope and progress and fast
Such a great read! A difficult topic is handled with compassion and grace between a very compelling host of characters. It's hard not to feel the pain the 2 main characters are grappling with, each in their own unique way. The characters are realistic and flawed though as a reader you can identify with each of them because they are so well written. Well worth the time to read and I'm looking forward to reading from this author!
