He’s a man of few words, but she fills his soul with poetry.

Quiet. Brooding. Capable. Shaw’s mission is simple: Root out Stonemore’s leader and determine what the Divine has in store for the people of Zora and the Kings. Just as he gets started, however, a breathtakingly beautiful woman finds and tempts him like no other. Nothing can stop him from engaging in the pleasures she offers. After all, pillow talk is sometimes the best way to uncover secrets.

Nia’s life has never been hers. From starving on the streets to becoming a slave to the Divine, she merely does what’s needed to survive. But when her latest assignment brings her face-to-face with a handsome man who makes her feel things she’s never experienced before, she begins to see that while she’s been living, she’s not really thriving.

As truths are revealed, and Nia’s blinders are removed, she realizes that she can no longer sit by and allow things to continue as they have been in her city. It’s time to take a stand. With Shaw by her side, they spark a war so many have tried to avoid. But the injustices being perpetrated must be stopped—no matter the cost.

I'm a few books behind on this series and while this does follow an overall plot, I find it pretty easy to read the books out of order. However, you will get some spoilers this way.

This is my first look into the new "evil" that the dragon kings are encountering. I think they are worse that what Con's group encountered on Earth with the first series.

What Nia went through from a child on, is really one of the worst things a child/woman should have to endure. The divine and the priest are hiddeous and I can't wait for the dragon kings to take them down.

I love that Shaw was the one to change her life. These two were a great couple to read about and I'm looking forward to more in the series.

Besides getting Shaw and Nia's story, Dragon Eternal introduces several new unknowns but in a rather incohesive way. The story also includes names of Dragon Kings not previously mentioned about whom no details are provided and whose names are not listed on Donna Grant's website. Unlike previous novels in Donna Grant's Dark World, I found this one a bit disjointed and not as clear-cut.

Con sums it up in the Epilogue when he states, "We're learning there are those on Zora with magic we've never encountered." The Epilogue is longer and more detailed than usual. It brings some events to a conclusion (Shaw and Nia) and opens others to question: . This novel left me somewhat confused as it introduced many new characters without further details while hinting at new upcoming concerns for the Dragon Kings. I guess I'll just have to wait until January 2023 for the continuation of the Dragon Kings saga in Dragon Lover to find out answers to these questions and to see what else Donna Grant has in store for the Dragon Kings.

The Kindle edition includes an excerpt from the upcoming (September 2022) Dark Alpha's Command which will tell Balladyn's story. Looking forward to it!

Dragon Eternal is about Shaw, a Dragon king, and Nia, A resident of Zora. This book gives you a lot of information about how the human side of Zora works. You learn more about the Divine and his soldiers and how there is a caste System in the city. Of course, there is also the relationship between Shaw and Nia and how they arrive at their happily ever after.

Shaw and Nia’s story from the start was one of the more emotional Dragon King novels!

Nia has had to fight and claw her way through life. She’s a fighter so when opportunity strikes she takes it, but she never expected Shaw. Shaw came into Nia’s life like a storm and showed her that there is more in life than just fighting!

The story line is Dragon’s Eternal really picks up and now more than ever the Dragons Kings need to work together to find their opponents and save Zora!

Well that was an interesting twist for the Dragon Kings to handle. This new spin-off series Donna Grant began, taking her sexy, brooding, Scottish Dragon Kings to the alternate realm of Zora, home of the dragons, has become increasingly dangerous, and a little bit confusing, though I have no doubt everything will become clear in the end. The settings are exotic and interesting, the characters they meet are of course totally out of our realm of understanding, and the predicaments they find themselves in continuously are deadly and often end badly for one or more of the Kings. Shaw, King of the turquoise, has traveled to Zora with his friend Merrill at the request of Con and the twins to aid in a mission in one of human cities on the realm. He knows the mission will be dangerous, but since not much can kill a Dragon King he is willing to risk it in order to help the twins and stop the leaders of the humans who are killing all babies with magic. Shortly after he arrives he runs into the most captivating human woman he has ever seen and he is instantly drawn to her, but he has no idea the danger she poses to him and his people. Nia is on a mission from her leader, one that will finally release her from slavery and all she has to do is deliver a Dragon King. She has all the tools of seduction at her disposable, but she never could have imagined just how attracted and connected she would be to Shaw even though she knows she will have to betray him in the end. When the truth comes out they have to decide if they want to work together to defeat the evil that has infected Zora’s human population or if they will give up the new love that each of them have discovered for the other and turn their backs. I truly enjoyed reading this story, one filled with passion, betrayal, political intrigue, and love developing in the most unlikely of ways, reminding us that sometimes love comes at inconvenient times and places but should never be denied. Nia’s story was a heartbreaking one from the very beginning and one that so many could relate to in the past, but luckily not so much in our current world. Her inner strength and ability to survive emotionally and physically despite all that she went through shows that she would make a perfect mate for a King, but her sweetness and gentleness gave Shaw in particular the cushion he needed after carrying so much anger for so many millennia. Despite her plan to give Shaw up for most of the book, I found myself enjoying getting to know her and seeing her in quiet and vulnerable moments with Shaw as they learned about one another. Shaw has carried his pain and anger a LONG time and he doesn’t really let it go until he finally releases it to Nia, and that release allows him to move forward in life in a big way. He offers himself wholeheartedly to Nia as soon as he meets her, not understanding the connection but willing to embrace it, and when he learns the truth he is angry, but gives her the benefit of the doubt and lets her explain herself instead of flying off the handle, which honestly surprised and please me immensely. I loved watching how sweet and gentle he was with her, both before and after he learns about her past, and of course when he goes into battle he kicks ass and does it all to protect the woman that has captured his heart. The heat between these two was crazy from the beginning even as they each denied the full impact it would have on their futures right up until almost the end of their story. There were a few loose ends in this story, as Donna is wont to do, and I am dying to find out what will happen next with the overall plot arc, but I know whatever happens it will be a masterpiece.

DRAGON ETERNAL is the fourth instalment in Donna Grant’s adult DRAGON KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series-a spin of from the author’s Dark Kings series. This is King of the Sapphire Dragons Shaw, and human female Nia’s story line. DRAGON ETERNAL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. The author does reveal the history between the dragons and humans.

SOME BACKGROUND: For tens of thousands of years the Dragons have lived and ruled on Earth but a war between the dragons and humans forced the Dragon Kings to send the other dragons through a portal into an unknown world. Fast forward to present day, the portal has been revealed, and the Dragon Kings have been reunited in Zora, with their family and kin, but a new war is on the horizon between the Dragons, the Divine and the people of Stonemore.

Told from third person perspective DRAGON ETERNAL follows King of the Sapphire Dragons Shaw as he and Dragon King Merrill are tasked with uncovering the truth behind the power and purpose of the Divine. In Stonemore, children with magic are put to death, and in this, the Dragons want to end the killings before more children and magic are destroyed but Shaw never expected to meet Nia, a young woman supposedly cherished by the Divine, a young woman ordered to seduce our story line hero. Nia knew that to gain her freedom she would have to obey the Divine’s missive but Nia quickly found herself falling for a Dragon King, the beast she was ordered to seduce and captivate. Not all was going according to plan as Shaw fell for the woman who could have been his enemy, a woman he knew he would claim as his own. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Nia and Shaw, and the potential fall-out as the Divine and his minions are desperate to capture a Dragon King for their own.

Meanwhile, Merrill has been working his way through the streets of Stonemore, in an effort to uncover the who, how and why of the Divine but Merrill has gone missing, and the Dragon King may be the next target for the Soldier Priests of the Divine. As Merrill searches for the truth, King of the Dragon King’s son Brandr, has ventured on his own, in an effort to ferret out an enemy he knows nothing about.

The relationship between Nia and Shaw is predicated upon a lie and an obsession. Nia is ordered to seduce our story line hero, and Shaw finds himself falling for a woman that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are limited but intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including a number of the Dragon Kings we have met in the Dark Kings series, as well as Con and Rhi, alchemist Sian, Tamlyn and Cullen, Merrill, Villette, Henry the Druid, and the return of Teal Dragon King Vaughn, and his mate half fae-half dragon hybrid Eurwen, Eurwen’s brother and twin Brandr, and Nia’s hand maiden Sadie. The requisite evil has many faces.

DRAGON ETERNAL is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, relationships, friendships, family and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is fated; the characters are powerful and charismatic.

Dragon Eternal: Every time I start reading one of Donna Grants books I can not put them down this one was Amazing! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on adventure with the quietest courageous, strong Dragon King Shaw who is finally on Zora to help with a new enemy.

Instead of enjoying being with the dragons he is sent on a quest to find out more about the mysterious human city of Stonemore. It’s located on the other side of the dragon/human barrier targeting it’s young with any magic. Shaw and Merrill head into Stonemore with purpose to find out what is going on and help rescue them and getting close to the Devine the one ruling Sonemore. Shaw immediately encounters the beautiful Nia and is instantly drawn to her and notices she is higher up in Stonemore and it may be his way in to find out more about the Devine.

This is the forth book in the the spin off series Dragon Kings and will leave you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next! This amazing book takes us on a journey with these two characters and their undeniable attraction with each other. Review courtesy of Romance Junkies

Shaw is the Dragon King of the Sapphires. He and a fellow Dragon King infiltrate Stonemore to learn what they can about the city and its enigmatic ruler, the Divine. Shaw encounters a beguiling woman who tempts him from his mission. He cannot ignore the attraction that ignites between them, but there is more to Nia than he anticipated. She may be the key to getting close to the Divine. Can Shaw convince Nia to help him in his mission? Will he be able to protect her from the threats lurking in Stonemore?
Nia is one of the Divine’s favorite courtesans. She must seduce one of the two dragon kings hiding out in the city to gain her freedom. Nia happens across Shaw first, and he helps her escape the priests’ notice. She soon discovers that the dragon kings are not the monsters others have painted them to be. Nia realizes who the real villains are, and she vows to aid Shaw in his mission. Can Nia escape the Divine’s control? Or will she be another victim to the city’s immorality?
Shaw is a man who does not like to converse with others. He believes actions speak louder than words. I love the care and protectiveness Shaw devoted to Nia. He always positioned his body to the crowd to keep her from being jostled or crushed. I just found it so thoughtful and gentlemanly. What I like the most about Shaw is that he did not hold a grudge against Nia once he learned about her association with the Divine. He was angry at first; however, his comrade helped him see the situation she was in.
Nia is a survivor. Her childhood was a bleak one filled with starvation and uncertainty. I like Nia’s resourcefulness. She does not rely solely on her looks and her attributes. Nia also uses her wits to succeed in her current profession. She makes the best out of any situation handed her. What I admire the most about Nia is her resolve to help Shaw and his comrades against the Divine and the priests. She no longer wants to ignore their many injustices done to the citizens, especially children with magic.
DRAGON ETERNAL is the fourth book in Donna Grant’s latest paranormal romance series, DRAGON KINGS, a spinoff from her DARK KINGS series. I highly suggest reading the prior three books, especially DRAGON UNBOUND. They really set up the setting, a realm like Earth called Zora, and the dark undercurrents plaguing it. Each story hints at the new foe the dragon kings and their allies must face. This book picks up where DRAGON UNBOUND leaves off.
DRAGON ETERNAL is a spellbinding tale of two souls finding love during a chaotic time and overcoming incredible odds to be together. I have a sneaking suspicion on who the author plans to pair Merrill up in the next installment. I cannot wait to see if I’m right!

Zora and the Dragon Kings are in upheaval, and Shaw and Nia form a small but riveting part of the bigger tapestry.

Nia was taken as a child and raised as a slave in service to the Divine. Her dream of freedom started to solidify when the Divine tasked her with seducing secrets from the two Dragon Kings that had come to the city of Stonemore. Shaw had the same idea when he met the beautiful Nia. Perhaps he could use her to shed some light on the Divine. Nia quickly realized there are more to the Dragon Kings than meets the eye, and maybe there’s another way to break free from the Divine’s influence.

Shaw and Nia are both interesting, complex characters. Just when you think you know everything about the Dragon Kings, you see a slightly different angle and learn something new. The two of them work well together and I like how their story ended. They were very trusting of each other early on. This was a bit surprising, especially if you consider Nia’s entire career is built on seducing and tricking people.

At the end we are left with more questions than answers as the fight continues and war looms on the horizon. Nia and Shaw’s story ends satisfactorily but left me eager to know what’s going to happen next.

The Dragon Kings series is for everyone who enjoys dragon shifters, fae, and magic, with heaps of steamy romance. It is best to read the books in order, as there is an overarching theme that runs through.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Donna Grant returns with another installment to the Dragon Kings series. I honestly love the whole dragon theme to this series. It’s refreshing thing to see amongst a sea of shifters, vampires and fae in the Paranormal Romance genre, and I believe that this dragon series by Donna Grant is one of the better ones out there.

There’s a lot of details concerning the worldbuilding and actually, this world expands in some of Grant’s other series as well, so if you love this one, I would definitely recommend checking out her other series as well.

I enjoy the flowing writing and intense, passionate scenes. Donna Grant’s Paranormal Romances are just some of my favorite due to the fact that she sticks to what she’s good at. I can definitely see myself rereading this book in the future.

What can I say.......this book is beyond one click worthy and 5 stars don't do it justice!
Stonemore is a horrid retchid place. The "Divine" and the priests have put in place the most foul despicable law. ( I won't spoil what it is.)
That law plus the invisible enemy that nearly took Cullen down are the reason the Kings get involved.
Shaw and Merrill are the Kings to infiltrate Stonemore for answers. Nia is a courtesan and slave for the "Divine" and Sadie is Nia's most trusted servant and a slave to the "Divine." Even though the book has many characters, it's main focus revolves around Shaw and Nia. They find each other rather quickly. There is a reason that I won't disclose. But the sexy bits that ensue are HOT!
Anyway.....I'm only saying one more thing about Sadie or I'll be giving you too many spoilers. Sadie stunned me. Not once, but twice. Once early on with something she said and then later on with her action. I did not see the latter coming. What a brainwashed biotch!
Even though it takes place on Zora, the twins are greatful for the help. They even come to realize they've turned a blind eye for far to long.
War is a brewin and it's gonna be a big one I'm afraid.
I read this straight through the night. I couldn't put it down. I am impatiently awaiting the next book.

Shaw and Nia have great chemistry! Shaw and Merrill are sent on a mission to uncover the truth about an enemy on Zora. Nia is a slave and a spy sent by The Divine to capture the attention of a King and bring him to the Divine.

Shaw and Nia have instant chemistry. Nia’s story is heartbreaking and Shaw is so kind and patient. The romance is spicy!!

I loved that we got to finally see Merrill again and that he isn’t exactly the happy go lucky Dragon King that everyone thinks and I can’t wait to read his story and learn about the pain and anger he is hiding.

So much intriguing stuff happening in this book. There's mystery and suspense, magic, danger, hot smexy times, and, of course, dragons. I loved meeting Shaw (King of Sapphires) and Nia (courtesan). They absolutely sizzled together. We're still learning more about what's happening on Zora. And I need to know more about the Divine and the threat to the dragons. Is war inevitable?
I can't wait to read what happens next!

On a side note, I love, love the book cover. It's very cool.

Many thanks to the author and BookFunnel for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

This series is so complex and has so many added story lines, characters and plot from the original Dragon King books.... and I love it!! I'm loving all the new characters and how each is so different from the others. It not all about the Dragons, Fae, Reapers and Druids anymore. I'm loving all the new detentions and new plot twists. Can't wait for the next one 😁

Shaw, Dragon King of the sapphire and not much for talking, goes to Stoneware to determine what the “ Divine “ has in store for the Dragon Kings and Zora. Nia was dirt poor, her mother left and never came back. Her siblings die and she is taken to become a slave. Now she is a courtesan and the “ Divine “ wants her to seduce and Dragon King and then bring him to them. If she fulfills her mission, the DIVINE tells her she will get her most hearts desire….. her freedom. But Nia starts having feelings she has never experienced before and agrees to help Shaw. But will the DIVINE will do anything to get a Dragon King.

I know it probably doesn’t make sense but I’m trying my best. CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!! Sex. Shifters. Secrets. This is a vera good story. And I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Series: Dragon Kings #4
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Shaw and Merrill are sent to Stonemore to investigate their ruler, the Divine, and figure out why they are killing children with magic. Shaw finds himself distracted by the beautiful Nia who he can’t get enough of, but can he trust her not to be a spy.

Shaw is known as the quiet dragon king. He rarely speaks but around Nia he always has something to say. HIs adventure in Stonemore doesn’t go as planned but he does find his mate in the beautiful and strong Nia. Shaw was a great hero who goes out of his way to protect Nia. He just wants her to have her freedom and is determined to give it to her at any cost, even if he has to put himself in a dangerous position.

Nia is a courtesan slave of the Divine who has been tasked with brining a Dragon King to the Divine. But she instead finds herself falling for Shaw and wishing for a different life. I have mixed feelings about Nia. While she is a very strong woman who has done anything to survive, I didn’t love the fact that for over half of their relationship she believed she was only feeling attraction to Shaw because of magic. Yes, she has been brought up to believe that Dragon Kings are magical beings who can spell people but it still really bothered me that she thought all her feelings were because of magic.

The plot to figure out why kids are being killed is very interesting. There was some new information with this one but we still have a lot of questions about why magic is so off limits and how they are targeting magical beings. I am very interested in seeing how this overarching story plays out and if a war actually ends up happening between the humans and the kings.

Trigger warnings: slavery, sexual training and sex work, rape, starvation, death of siblings from starvation, abandonment by mother; Shaw and his siblings were abused by their father.

The romance between Shaw and Nia was a slow burn that quickly ignites into explosive passion. Shaw quiet intensity and the way he unravelled Nia layers of defense, she has never had a life of her own, was deeply captivating. The novel did a fantastic job of using their intimate moments as a vehicle for uncovering secrets, making the 'pillow talk' central to the high-stakes political plot.

However, the volume of complex world-building and political maneuvering sometimes overshadows the emotional pace of the romance. While Nia's journey from slave to freedom was powerful, her shift in loyalty and her willingness to spark a war felt necessary for the plot but slightly expedited. The overall narrative was dense, requiring focus to keep up with the myriad of characters and the escalating threat posed by the Divine.

Another spellbinding Dragon read

I've been a fan of Donna Grant's Dragon Kings since they were first introduced into her Dark World. I have devoured every King's story and waited impatiently for the next one. DRAGON ETERNAL is the fourth book in her newest spinoff series Dragon Kings. If you haven't read the previous books, it is not a necessity, however I do strongly advise you do as there is an underlying story arc that flows through all the books. Anyway, enough of that, it's now time to meet Shaw, the King of Sapphires, and Nia, a courtesan in the city of Stonemore.

Shaw, along with Merrill, has been called to Zora. Thinking they would be spending time with other dragons, Shaw was disappointed to learn they were being sent to Stonemore. There they were to do some investigating into the mysterious being known as The Divine. There, Shaw the usually silent dragon king, meets Nia, a young woman who has been charged with seducing him and delivering him to The Divine. Suddenly the quiet Shaw can't keep his mouth shut, and his words enthrall Nia. The two begin to fall for one another and form a friendship (a hot one at that), even though they were meant to be on opposing sides. As their relationship flourishes, Shaw realises that Nia is becoming more than a friend, she's his mate, but how can he convince her? Danger is closing in on them though, who is bringing it and why?

While Shaw and Nia are the main characters in this story, Merril and Brandr also have subplots. Both are doing their own "detective work" regarding the reason children with magic are being killed, who The Divine is, and the reason behind the humans fearing the dragons and anything to do with magic. The tension is thick throughout this story, with all actions and thoughts leading to the possibility of war on Zora.

Once again Donna Grant has brought tension, suspense, and mystery to the world of the dragons. I'm sure Donna's imagination has no limits, as she's always mesmerising me with her vivid descriptions. DRAGON ETERNAL was a spellbinding read and I cannot wait for more.

Dragon Eternal is a wickedly breathtaking and wildly untamed journey of a preciously unexpected love waiting to be discovered and claimed. This story will tear your heart to pieces as you uncover a devastating past that must collide with a harsh and cruel reality. While Fate has a plan set, others are working hard to destroy it before it can see the light of day. When the heart gets involved sanity and logic take a backseat to pure magic and unreal joy. Never turn your back on the heart because it will do whatever is necessary to get your attention.

Shaw is tired. He is tired of the agony and loneliness of his existence. He just wants some peace and to sleep for another few millenia. When he is charged with completing a relatively simple mission he knows he can't turn it down. Finding his greatest treasure will test every strength he posses and the depth of his will to not only hold onto it but to keep it forever. Nia has molded her life by the force of her will to become something tolerable. Having been given no choice in the path she is walking, she makes the best she can of it. When Fate throws a dangerous and lethal man in her path, she has no choice but to do the will of those above her. Can Shaw show Nia that she can find peace and happiness in this life, or will others obliterate what little hope she has left?

Nia and Shaw are such a delicious couple who stole my heart and refuses to give it back. My heart bled for them both at the depth and intensity of their loss. I was shocked they still had hope burning inside for the possibility of more, but that showed me just how resilient and fathomless their potential truly is. They are marvelous characters who spoke light and wonder into my soul. These can only have been born from the mind of a creative savant.

Donna Grant is a true marvel and a literary genius when it comes to creating and imbuing her characters and her world with sparks of dangerous hope, dashes of boundless opportunity, and storms of sizzling passion. Nothing is better then diving deep into a book by the ingenius Donna Grant. She will never disappoint.

I received this ARC for my honest review. Dragon Eternal is the next Dragon King novel and it tells Shaw and Nia’s story. In Dragon Eternal Shaw and Merrill are asked to infiltrate the City of Stonemore to find more about their leader the Divine, the priests, and to investigate the killing of children and adults that have magic while also hunting / keeping an eye out for the unknown “invisible” enemy that can injure Dragons. So, an easy assignment…..

Except….while the Divine has no qualms about executing anyone with magic, they have compunctions against using magic for their own benefit…enter Nia. Nia was captured and enslaved by the Divine when she was a child. Since then, she’s become a courtesan used by the Divine to ferret out secrets or to help the Divine gather intel to use against their enemies. The Divine knows that Shaw and Merrill are Dragon Kings and that they’re in Stonemore. The Divine directs Nia to make one of the Kings fall in love with her and to deliver them to the Divine - if Nia succeeds, she’s promised her freedom.

Shaw and Nia’s story shows how a Dragon King and Slave/Courtesan that don’t believe in love find each other, and against the odds and realize that they’re mates.

Dragon Eternal continues to lay the foundation for the series and the book touches on Brandr ( Con and Rhi’s son) mingling with humans undercover while introducing us to three new mysterious beings/characters that will likely have a huge impact in future books: the Crone (the woman with the power to rip a Dragon King from Earth to bring them to Zora - seemingly to force the Dragons to step in and help people with magic on Zora), the Beast, and Villette. Oh, and lest we forget about Henry (the JusticeBringer), it seems like he’s destined to join the Dragon Kings on Zora too….I can’t wait to see what’s in store in Dragon Lover (even if Donna Grant is making us wait until January).

The mystery of Zora continues
The Dragon Kings & the Twins want to figure out who or what this new enemy is that can attack the Dragon Kings with almost no warning. Shaw and Merrill have come from Dreagan to Zora to help by going into Stonemore under cover to see what they can find out. Unfortunately, the element of surprise is lost as someone in the city knows that the Dragon Kings are in the city.
Nia, a courtesan in the service of the Divine, has been given a missive to make either Shaw or Merrill fall in love with her so she can present them to the Divine - the reward for this would be her freedom. She has never failed and with her freedom being the prize, she does not intend to fail this time. She runs into Shaw without much effort and has started on her plan. Shaw had a plan of his own, learn everything he can about Stonemore’s culture and their ruler by getting close to this beautiful woman. He never intended to develop feelings for her, which makes it difficult for him to learn she was meant to entrap him.
Nia is sure her feelings for Shaw must be due to his magic. How else can she explain that she enjoys spending time with him? When she learns Shaw knew about the missive, she is surprised Shaw would want to help her. When she learns of the Dragon Kings story, combined with her own sad history, she decides to help Shaw.
Nia & Shaw never expected to fall in love, but we all know Fate has an interesting way of putting people together who need each other. Donna Grant has yet again crafted a story with two compelling main characters while furthering the continuing story of our beloved Dragon Kings. The mystery continues, with a glimpse of the crone who originally pulled Varek to Zora, Merrill going missing, Brandr deciding he needs to learn more about the humans on his own and learning Henry feels pulled to Zora………
I never know which way the Kings story will progress, but I am always willing to go along on the journey.

Shaw is the Dragon King to the Sapphire dragons. He's lived for millennia. He never wanted to be a King but to protect those he cared for and his dragons he took up the mantle. He's a man known for his actions rather than his words. He wasn't looking for love or a mate.

Nia is a courtesan, a slave to the Divine. She was plucked from the streets, a starving child taken to serve. She was trained to seduce and spy and report all she learned. When she's ordered to seduce a Dragon King for her freedom, she is determined to do what she must.

Nia suffered as a child and made hard choices to survive in a difficult world. She was hard to like at first, but her time with Shaw slowly peels back the layers of who she is and why and I warmed up to her. Shaw's attentiveness could melt anyone's heart.

Merrill and Shaw are sent to Stonemore to gather information to help the Dragon Kings prevent any more children with magic from being murdered. Shaw is not much of a talker but finds a lovely woman that helps open his own heart while he and Merrill work to uncover Stonemore's secrets.

There are several layers to this story, with breadcrumbs to the future to come. All the tidbits left me feeling a bit disjointed within the story as they all seemed to start something but left the reader dangling while it went to another part of the story. It took me awhile to warm up to this couple but I got there in the end. They get their happily ever after but many other parts of the story are left to be finished in future books.

Nigglies:

The story states no children are born on Zora, but Nia has a scene talking about if she had been born to another family, also talking about her brother and sister. How is that possible?

Ugh. I’m still not over the fact that some of Donna’s Dark King books are published by another publisher. And therefore not offered as arcs. So, now I kinda missed out on the fact that Rhi and Con had children?! And they rule an entire new world?! Of course I’m beyond pleased that we can continue to read about my favorite shapeshifting dragons. But still… children already?!

This new world, Zora, has been created by Erith (yep Death herself) as a sanctuary for all the dragon’s who had to flee earth.

But part of this world is inhabited by humans. Humans who are ruled by the Divine. And who are taught that magic is dangerous and forbidden.

Nia has been a slave for as long as she can remember. But now, she has her freedom almost at the tips of her fingers.

She has one last assignment from the Divine: seek out one of the two Dark Kings who are roaming the city and make him fall in love with her. And then deliver him to the Divine. Shaw is send on an assignment to investigate the rumors that someone is killing children with magic in the city Stonemore on Zora.

When he meets Nia, he realizes she can provide him with some information. So, Shaw sticks around. He didn’t anticipate to actually have feelings for the courageous woman. Even when he learns, she was on an assignment to seduce him.

But there are strange powers at work and Shaw and Nia need to be careful. Because maybe the Dark Kings aren’t the most powerful beings on Zora. worried yet? Check out yet another wonderful story from Donna! Can’t wait for the next.

Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Shaw is a Dragon King and is assigned to go to Zora to try to discover info about the mysterious leader, AKA "The Devine" and the sacrificing of children discovered to have magic.

Nia has been raised as a slave, never having a choice about anything in her life. She is a "courtesan" and although she has lived well she knows it can all be gone in the blink of an eye if she doesn't please The Devine.

Word has gotten to The Devine that two Dragon Kings have entered Zora and Nia has been ordered to use her charms and to bring one of those Kings to The Devine.

Nia meets Shaw first and there is an immediate attraction between the two, which only grows as they spend time together. Shaw is normally a very quiet man but finds he enjoys talking to Nia.

Will Nia accomplish the goal of bringing a Dragon King to the Devine? Why does the Devine want a Dragon King? But can Nia give him up?

I liked this couple. Shaw, although quiet, is a good man. He has decided that he will not leave Nia behind when he leaves, because she deserves to have a life and choices in her life. I don't even think he realized it's because he wanted her in his life for good. Nia doesn't realized how truly strong she is as a person, after all, she needed to be strong just to survive as long as she has. When Nia starts to learn how different reality is then what she has been told all her life, it changes her, it gives her more faith in possibly having choices in life.

As always, Ms Grant brings us a great story, strong characters and love!
