Here my mother goes again, draining a man dry for all he’s worth just to toss him aside for the next lucky fool.
And after two years spent across seas studying abroad, I can’t say I even know the man my mother is screwing over.
But after overhearing him wring her a new one my first night back in town, part of me wants to stay behind this time while mother skips out. You know, maybe get to know the very man who’s been blindly funding my tuition since my eighteenth birthday.
I’m sick of the constant change mother keeps throwing us through, even though I feel like I should be capable of holding my own without her support.
And now, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
I’m willing—longing—to start a new journey right where I’m at.
But after the fight I just caught wind of, I’m hoping if I get the chance to stick around, I won’t become just another burden…for Daddy.

An Unloved Daughter Seeks the Love and Kindness of a Daddy
The phrase “like mother, like daughter” could never be used to describe the resemblance of Jessica and her daughter, Harley. Jessica, a brassy blonde, former flight attendant in her late 30’s, was happy to exchange her body for the attentions of a man—and not necessarily the attentions of her current husband, Everett. Her primary goals were to live a rich, extravagant life and to indulge in the attentions of the nearest male.
The couple had met through work—Everett was an experienced and skilled pilot who though years of diligent attention to his skills as a pilot, was now, at the age of 42, more than financially set to retire after 20 years flying and accruing a salary of six figures annually. And, on one of his flights, 3 years earlier, he had encountered Jessica, one of the attendants on the flight—a woman whom he had envisioned as a part of his future. Jessica, who was masterful at providing attention to powerful and wealthy men, knew how to size up a man’s potential and to provide first class service, and Everette, at the time, checked all the boxes. So, Jessica quickly worked to gain the favor, attention and a proposal from Everette. However, the unsuspecting groom didn’t realize that he was only the most recent name on Jessica’s list of victims.
But a man of honor, Everette married Jessica, providing a house and car that met her standards and access to his money. And he also happily agreed to cover her high school-aged daughter's extravagant year in boarding school, and the now 20-year-old step daughter had just completed her sophomore year of college and second year abroad in the college’s exchange program. So, other than the wedding itself, the stepfather and stepdaughter only crossed paths at the wedding which took place three years earlier. And most surprising, but perhaps most predictable, was that almost immediately after the wedding, Jessica resigned as a flight attendant to become a stay-at-home wife and mother.
But for Jessica, her new freedom from work did not mean that her new husband or teenage daughter would benefit from her attention—her husband was only home for brief rests between flights and her daughter was either in boarding school or in another country. But Jessica did stay busy—remodeling the kitchen every 6 months, shopping every day and becoming well acquainted with the pool boy and any other male service provider who crossed her door step.
Now, sweet 20-year-old Harley is home for the first time on a break from school, and during that time, she has grown into a beauty with golden blonde hair, bright blue eyes and a lithe, toned body—a little girl no longer! And most of all, she has an innocent kindness that seems to be in direct contrast to her mother’s grasping, self-indulgent nature, and unlike her mom, she is innocent in the ways of physical love. And Everette, the man who has worked long hours and travelled hundreds of thousands of miles to create his vision of retirement—a beautiful home with a loving woman—comes home to find that for the last 3 years, while he was in the air, Jessica—without the responsibilities of a husband or her daughter—was romping in the pool and anywhere else she could lure a willing man to service her needs.
And within an hour of his arrival, his “wife” has mocked him and scorned Everette, flaunting her affairs and her spending habits with his money, but she has forgotten that her daughter, home for the first time in years, is witness to her mother’s debauchery and shamelessness and made embarrassingly aware of the financial burden that Everette has willingly taken as his own for her—an unknown step-daughter. Harley is a young woman with no adult to give her guidance. Her mother is an utter failure in her own life and can offer no good direction and Harley has never known her biological father. What she needs is a man of kindness and integrity to guide her—she needs a daddy.
B.L. Brooks once more offers the reader a tale of first love for a young woman who needs an older man to guide and protect her, and the older man who needs the gentle honesty of a young woman’s guilelessness to heal the bruises of his misplaced love to a deceitful wife.

Enjoyable Age Gap Romance Harley is back from spending two years abroad after completing the first half of her bachelor’s degree which her stepfather, Everett, payed for with out question. He is a good man, but things are rocky between her mom and him now so it does not look like she will be staying with them for long. Everett has had enough of his cheating wife and it is time for her to leave, but her daughter can stay as long as she wants. In fact he soon wants her to stay forever. This is a steamy daddy romance with well developed characters that definitely have chemistry and deserve happiness together. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
The author has given us a fast paced older man/younger woman story that pulls us into the lives of Everett and Harley. When Everett kicks his wife out for cheating on him, he tells his stepdaughter, Harley, that she may stay. She is nothing like her mother, so she stays as she feels a connection with Everett.

Another fast paced older man/younger woman story. Everett and Harley. Harley doesn't really know her stepfather, although he's been paying for her overseas education. She is very aware of how bad her mom has been treating Everett. When he kicks mom to the curb, he offers Harley to stay if she chooses. Two beautiful people find each other. HEA. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Slowing Down Retirement is supposed to be a Happy time but for Everett it’s not going to be a smooth transition. His wife Jess doesn’t really love him and he now sees the truth. With his step daughter Harley in the house, it’s kind of hard to fight. Harley has other things in mind and parts of Everett’s body stand at attention. Can Daddy teach young Harley what he wants?
He’s a retired pilot. She’s just coming back from an education while abroad. She’s his wife’s daughter so it’s kinda off limits relationship. He’s a sweet guy who just wants to get away from his cheating wife. He’s stepdaughter is just a temptation waiting to happen.
I read an ARC via the author and I'm voluntarily choosing to review it.
This was a very fast paced romance where Elliott falls for his stepdaughter Harley. I thought that they were actually quite sweet with each other, and that their chemistry was off the charts explosively steamy! I found this book entertaining and fun to read.
