“Challenge accepted!” were the last words she expected him to utter, and now it’s a race to see who will back down first.

Dani Whittaker has turned in her Washington D.C. insider badge, leaving behind the backstabbing ways and seedy politicians. When a friendly favor ends with the one man she can’t have making her body sing in ways she hates to adore, D.C. isn’t the only thing she needs to escape.

Navy SEAL, Nash Wellesley, is all about honoring a promise to his dead brother, so accepting a dare from the long-legged force of nature tempting him isn’t in the cards. Not if he wants to keep his only remaining friend and stick to the code he grew up on.

But retreat is impossible after Dani’s new job puts her in the headlights of a fanatic, and Nash is called upon to protect her.

When the chase ends, will they be left shattered or will they emerge from the ashes together?

Author’s Note: This broody, honor-bound SEAL and confident, daring heroine just might make you laugh, tear your heart out, and slowly combust. Are you ready for it?

“Sometimes, you have to give in to win.”
I have so many quotes from this book, but I think this one sums it up. Aerosmith say ‘you got to lose to know how to win’, which is absolutely true. But giving in doesn’t mean losing, and it may win you a future you never imagined.
And that is the story of Nash and Dani.

”He was everything I’d ever want staring down at me. Tall, dark, and broody with his dark-green eyes cutting through my body like lasers.”
Nash embodies my ideal hero. The tall, dark, broody man, who would be protective and possessive even if he weren’t a SEAL. The guy who pays attention to any detail. The guy who will always be there for everyone, because he feels there were two times in his life when he wasn’t there for people. And he lost them.

”She was perfect. Everything which called to me about a woman, I found in her. Gentle curves, smart brain, sharp mouth.”
Dani is my ideal heroine. She went through a rough patch, having been sexually assaulted by a sleazeball in an elevator. She’s not a victim. She left her job and she’s struggling, but she knows she’s going to make it through. No self-pity, or self-deprecation. This one’s a fighter.

Also, sidebar, I love that she trains as hard as any man, and is able to hold her own in a fight. Just love it.

”I wondered if she was trying to call my bluff again. To see if I’d call or fold. I’d already folded. I’d folded the moment she’d bawked at me. Maybe before. Maybe I’d folded the very first time she’d ever entered my life with her bright-blue eyes and daredevil smile.”
Having lost his friends in an overseas operation, Nash is broken, maybe beyond repair. His only reprieve is being there for the widow and the daughter of his best friend, one of those who lost his life. To be honest, he’s not really living. He’s barely holding on.

Growing up in a military family, Dani is prepared for most things in life. She wasn’t prepared for what happened to her, though. For feeling fragile or impotent.

And they’re both unprepared for the connection between them.

””I wanted her more than I’d wanted anything else in my life. That meant I had to look at the entirety of my world and, perhaps, reimagine it. Adjust the strategy mid-game. Find the path through the rock-strewn hillside.”
One night, they end up having dinner together. And then there’s a (strip) poker game. None of them is a fan of losing, both of them always up for a challenge. But Dani folds, with a winning hand, which leads to one steamy night, and then they move on. Probably. Maybe.

When Dani accepts a job as a PR rep for country singer Brady O’Neal, that puts her in danger. Suddenly, she's the target of some obsessed stalker. And Nash, of course, comes to the rescue. The suspense background only adds to an already great story.

“Did Nash give those to you?”
I nodded, and she laughed softly.
“Why?” I said, suddenly eyeing the flowers doubtfully.
“They’re camellias,” she said as if it should answer my question.
“Are they? I’m afraid I know absolutely nothing about plants.”
“You don’t know what they mean, then?” she asked.
I shook my head.
“Red and white camellias are given to someone significant to you, and the basic message is, ‘my destiny is in your hands.’”

What comes later is the giving in. Nash needs to let go of everything that’s been weighing him down: the past, his family, his loss. And Dani needs to deal with her own demons in the aftermath of what happened to her.

More than anything, they need to give in the feelings they have for each other.

”He came back, kissed his fingers, and then placed them on my lips.
“Keep this with you until you can give it back to me.”

In the end, it doesn’t matter how damaged or how lost you think you are – the right person can find you, see and love the real you, and put you back together again.

And then some.

My goodness! Dani and Nash! What a heart-stopping couple and story! The swoony tension and feisty banter between these two will have your heart soaring! Not to mention the suspense that twists and turns throughout.
Both Dani’s and Nash’s pasts are tragic, but in finding each other, they discover and transform into who they are truly meant to be—strong, honorable, resilient humans.
Loved this book so much!

A brooding Navy SEAL hero and a strong, resilient heroine will captivate your heart in this beautiful romance!

Nash and Dani are both characters dealing with traumatic past experiences. Nash especially is struggling with PTSD from his SEAL missions and the loss of his best friend on their last operation. Guilt and unworthiness is a constant plague on Nash. It was a little heartbreaking to see him struggle with being able to accept a happy ending with Dani. In fact he comes off as a bit of an asshole at first trying to push her away. Those are my favorite kind of heroes though as long as they make up for it by the end.

There is quite a bit of mystery/ suspense surrounding Dani's new job as a music PR manager which was actually one of my favorite parts of this book. Not just the intrigue of trying to figure out who was involved in trying to harm Dani but also seeing Nash take charge and become the overprotective hero we love so much. His SEAL training naturally brought out his dominance and his love for Dani made him even more determined to protect her at all costs. These moments made him even more hot and swoonworthy!

A certain turn of events leads Nash to bring Dani to his childhood home. Here we really get to know Nash more and understand how his family's past has affected his current relationship dynamics. It's also where we really see him and Dani really connect. I did feel that Nash's relationship with Tristan (his best friend's widow) was a bit odd. Nash feels responsible for Tristan and her daughter because he came home and Darren didn't. There are no romantic feelings but he basically moved in with them to care for them. It was a tad weird to me and the fact that Dani thought their relationship was more was just an unnecessary complication. I was able to look past that though and focus on Dani and Nash. Their fantastic steam and chemistry with an intense emotional connection made for a gorgeous love story!

Do you know Kintsugi pottery? It's the ancient Japanese art of mending broken items and reunifying them with gold. It is meant to create a new, unique and beautiful piece. Damaged pieces are just turned into a new precious one.

What does Kintsugi habe to do with Damaged Desires? Well LJ Evans created a Kintsugi of her own. Using her words, she took two people broken by life, struggling to keep afloat and mended them into a new item. Together, the are the better versions of themselves. They cannot be apart, try as they might. Together, Dani and Nash can face everything life throws at them- be it nightmares from their pasts or life threatening events in their current lives. But in the end, they are survivors who get their HEA and that is all that matters.

The story is first set in Washingthon DC but the most important part of their story takes place in Nash's family plantation. As an African woman, I really love it when authors put the effort needed to show us that it is possible to learn from the past and educate their readers. LJ has done just that. Without negating the past attached to southern American plantations, she also portrays a place where people of all origins can get a shot at life. I found it daring but also very thoughtful that Nash and Dani settle there and turne the place into a haven for those who need it. Their way of trying to right a wrong they didn't personally commit is a piece I'm grateful that LJ wrote. It made me love the book more and Laura even more.

I believe I say this with every book by LJ Evans, but I think this may be the best one yet!

Dani and Nash are both tortured souls. Dani is still trying to heal from a sexual assault over a year ago and Nash, a Navy SEAL, carries emotional scars from the loss of his team members and his best friend in a mission gone bad.

What begins as a slow burn between them quickly expands to a raging fire! As their relationship grows, they’re still dealing not only with their pasts but a threat in the present. Together, they learn to begin healing from their past, dealing with a perilous present and begin to have hope for a future.

This book is a pleasure to read, combining romance with suspense! And it always amazes me how the author skillfully weaves a tale based on song lyrics!

I finished this book for the second time a couple of days ago and I have been struggling with how to write the review. I am not a writer and I really want to do this book justice.
LJ Evans says that she writes stories with characters that have to live their lives resiliently. That resonated with me so much the first time I read it. Dani and Nash define it. Their stories aren't pretty. They both have a lot of baggage but they both learn to live resiliently. They do it individually and they do it together. They do it with humor, strength, grace and so much love.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I freaking LOVED this book!

I love reading in-depth stories of characters I have met in previous books I have loved. Every book I've read by LJ Evans has hit me deep in the feels and I have adored every one, but Nash and Dani's story is extra special. Ms. Evans takes two beautifully broken people and melds their hearts together to form a new duo who are stronger together, as well as apart, than when they started. This author's words are lyrical and inspired and it shows in her books. They are beautifully crafted and meticulously plotted to keep the reader drawn into the story. While characters may be flawed, or think they are, they are realistic and well-developed and never have to face life alone. They are either surrounded by family or by friends who have become family.
Dani and Nash have fought their attraction for some time and between Nash's honoring the Bro Code and Dani's fear of her brother finding out, they fight their chemistry. Between the aftermath of Dani's attack and the guilt Nash feels for the death of his friends, the couple has demons to slay on both sides. Those demons may well sink Nash's naval career because guilt and anger consume him at times, and only his sense of honor and duty to his fallen friend's family seems to calm him, until Dani comes along. While she may calm some elements of his life, she causes him turmoil in other areas. Learning about Nash's family and their history is a surprise that really piqued my interest. I love the element of romantic suspense that puts Dani in danger when she takes a new job as a PR rep for an up and coming singer.
So much happens in this book and while I was more than satisfied with the eventual HEA, I still wanted more of the swoon-worthy Nash and the strong-willed Dani. I love that Ms. Evans always catches the reader up with previous couples who are friends with the main characters in her current books. I also love that she has at least one stellar, unforgettable scene in every book. After reading Damaged Dreams, I will never be able to play poker (strip or otherwise) without thinking of this book.

So... with LJ Evans' The Album series, I had a clear favorite- Mixtape. Something about Lonnie & Wynn captured me the most, even when I loved them all.

With the Anchor series, there is no favorite. Each and every one is my favorite.

Gah. Dani & Nash... ♥️💔♥️. Chemistry, heartache, family, love... soooo much love! Thank you LJ for writing realistic charactes with flaws, and still HEAs. I was so overjoyed when Nash realized he had it in spades (and not just from Dani). ♥️♥️♥️

I love a book with a strong heroine and hero but this book is so much more than that. On the surface it’s a book with a broody hero and a beautiful hero who work through their past to find their happily ever after....there’s also a bit of a mystery to solve which I love in a book. As you read the book though you start to discover layers and the depth of this story. By the end you realize LJ Evans has shown you through her characters that you can be strong yet vulnerable, broken but resilient and that not all scars mean we lost the battle. Loved it.....truly love Dani and Nash. So looking forward to Brady’s book next!

When pushed to find purpose outside of being a SEAL, Nash doesn't have the slightest idea what other purpose he's supposed to fulfill.

Dani leaves her job in the political world after her sense of security is jeopardized and returns home to figure out her next move.

One night of whiskey and strip poker sets them on an uneven path to each other.

Damaged Desires is swoon, heat, frenemies to lovers and a side of suspense. It's the perfect next installment to LJ's Anchor Series!

This story is about two broken people that had things happen to them I can't even begin to imagine. It was a journey of finding yourself and being open to the possibility of loosing someone you love.

Both Dani and Nash were at times trying so hard to avoid their attraction. But the connection was just to strong to ignore. I loved how they managed to help each other letting go of the past and seeing that their is a bright future for them. And the ongoing mystery and drama that was happening around them added the depth to this story and had me sitting at the edge of my seat just rooting for the HEA.

Every single book I've read so far had me laughing, crying and smiling so big that I can say without a doubt that I've turned into a HUGE L.J. Evans fan.

Another jewel by LJ Evans! This is #UnPutDownable and breathtaking! One wow of a book! This pulled me through an emotional ringer and I feel so much better and yet pouty faced at having reached the end. These two characters are so beautifully blinded by the present and traumatic pasts that any kind of a different future seems unattainable together. Dani faced things that any woman knows could easily happen to her. It's sad and it's heartbreaking. Nash is all SEAL and duty has been his priority. When the worst happens to him, it's almost too much to bare. I loved seeing their families play such pivotal roles in being there for them. It's absolutely a thrill to see past characters giving heartfelt advice because they've already reached their happily ever afters and it's just awesome to see them still loving life. There is nothing more appealing than an alpha male who protects his woman, even when he doesn't know that she's his. I love the way in which Ms. Evans writes! She doesn't shy away from difficult topics, instead she dives in deeply and she leaves me feeling forever changed from having spent my time immersed within her glorious words. My heart is overflowing and I can't stop my soppy smiles.

I love this author.
L J Evans, is such a breath of fresh air.
I love how she takes two damaged people and strips them down and puts them back together whole.
It's such a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Dani, is dealing with an attack that happened to her.
Nash, is a navy seal who lost his best friend in combat and is dealing with the guilt that he lived instead of his friend who had a wife and baby to come home to.
Dani, is forbidden fruit, because she's his friends sister and she deserves someone who's will be there for her, not running off on a mission to possibly never return.
Same goes for Nash. Dani's brother would not approve, because Nash doesn't do relationships and the thought of someone waiting for him while he's on a mission is to much for him to deal with.
When Dani's life becomes endangered, Nash refuses to let anything happen to her and as they bare their souls to each other, they learn to heal and trust each other.
A beautiful story of courage and love of two people who find their way to love through the damage in their lives.

I have never come across another author who can pen a full story from song lyrics like LJ Evans, and so she's a fantastically original author that everyone needs in their lives. I can honestly say that I absolutely LOVE every new book more than the last (if even possible), and Damaged Desires is no exception. These two broken souls, Nash & Dani are gold together, but not in that I see you & you see me so everything is perfect now way, as they have flaws. Not to mention life is mean & unfair at times so it gives me the feeling of fighting alongside them because they're now my friends. Dani is battling with a horrible situation from her past, and now the present is being hateful, while Nash has serious PTSD from deployments as a SEAL. He's friends with her brother making her off limits, but she needs him to protect her so the push & pull took off because of the close quarters as they were trying to not give in to the chemistry they have in spades. Damaged Desires is a story full of romance, heat, and suspense so perfect in my eyes. So hit those one click buttons for the amazing experience of Nash & Dani's story! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dani and Nash. Sigh!

Nash Harrison Wellsley has my heart. But so does Dani.

These characters are strong survivors who have been through so much life threw at them but still came out tops. They are WARRIORS

Dani and Nash caught my attention in Forged by Sacrifice the story of Mac and Georgie and I couldn’t wait to see if the fiesty Dani could put a smile on the dark and broody Nash.

Well well, she most certainly did.

I loved this book! LJ had me in stitches and in tears. This is nothing unusual.

This is a story of strength, hope, friendship, family and of course love. Dani and Nash will give you strength and hope to believe in yourself. They will teach you to get up and move on. They teach you to become a warrior.

Also, the playlist rocks!!!!

Dani and Nash gets a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"I wanted her more than I'd wanted anything else in my life. That meant I had to look at the entirety of my world and, perhaps, reimagine it."

There are some books you read, and they keep you entertained while you are reading them, and then there are books you read that stick with you long after you finish. Damaged Desires is one of those books that burrows deep in your heart and sticks with you long after you finish.

Nash and Dani are such amazing characters. They both have these tragic events they have to overcome, and while they struggle to get back on track, their resilience is breathtaking. The way they not only pull themselves together, but also the way they learn to accept love and help from one another makes this book so much more.

The way LJ Evans wrote this book had me hooked from the very beginning to end. While I already knew some of their background from Forged by Sacrifice, the way we started with Dani's sass and immediate struggle to overcome had me turning page after page and tuning out the world. I also felt like this was the most military of all of LJ's Anchor books. While they have all been based on characters in the military. this one really delved in with what the military meant to Nash, and the fallout when that identity was in question.

I can't recommend this book enough. It really is a new favorite of mine! While I love this whole series and think everyone should start at the beginning and read them all, this one would work as a standalone.

Real. Raw. Engrossing. Stunning. From the very first page, I knew this book was going to damage me, but in true LJ Evans fashion, she put me back together better than new by the end of Dani & Nash's story. And gah, what a story it was! Loyalty, sacrifice, honor, strength, courage, determination, suspense, family, friends, romance, music....Damaged Desires has it all!

What happens when you couple a brooding Navy Seal with a spunky, sassy take no junk heroine? You get fireworks that on LJ can give. I love going through the experience of characters that have had a traumatic backgrounds, and having a front row seat to the way they heal. Combined with romantic suspense, and a lot of action, this book hit all those delicious spots that I love.

Dani and Nash are two broken souls going though major changes in their lives. And while they both can see their attraction has been burning away in the background for quite some time, they’re also both reluctant to pursue anything with all they are going through.

How wrong could they be? What they needed most was each other! And I’m so glad that LJ weaved their slow burn in such a perfect way; where they came to accept their fate without that frustration of pushing each other a way hurtfully (so many writers do that!). It truly made reading their journey such a pleasurable experience!

Their budding friendship and flirtations made me fall in love with them individually and then together – Wow! They were so good! And the sexual chemistry?? Off the charts!

A heartfelt ride that I hadn't quite prepared myself for. Dani and Nash both have some difficult pasts and their ability to allow themselves to be close to someone is a hard hurdle for them both. But the attraction is there and has been for a long time. Friends via other friends and family members, Dani and Nash have had plenty of interactions at friends and family events but they've never acted on them.

Dani is an incredibly strong and damaged individual after a terrifying experience where her job had her at the mercy of a corrupted Senator who tried to take advantage of her while her boyfriend was returning to his ex. She has closed her heart off from people and has quit her job. Leaving her in a very vulnerable rut.

Nash is a Navy SEAL who lost his closest friends in battle and blames himself for their losses. He has committed his life to caring for his best friends wife and child by being a "stand-in" husband to her. She would rather he just leave and quit reminding her of what she's lost.

One night brings Nash and Dani together and the chemistry they've been fighting against for a long time is more intense than either of them expected. But both of them are going to have to face some very serious demons in their pasts to be able to move forward.

I loved Dani so much because of her ability to try and stay brave even when she's had some of the most traumatic experiences women can endure. It's not easy to keep your confidence or move forward after something like that happens, but she is surrounded by so many great and inspiring people that help her keep her head up.

Nash on the other hand was a struggle to handle in the first quarter of the book. His misery of losing his friends runs so deep that he says and does things that are damaging to others without even realizing it. Even though he's attending therapy and working on improving himself and his PTSD, it takes him a long time to realize the damage he's doing to others in the process.

This isn't your standard love story and both characters have a lot of self reflection to endure to find their happy ending. But all the pain is worth it in the end. You'll love this new release from LJ Evans just like all of her other amazing books!

WOW…Grab your tissue, your drink of choice, and a nice cozy blanket and prepare for Damaged Desires, an incredibly healing romance story of Dani Whittaker, a former employee of the political world, and Nash Wellesly, a Navy SEAL trying to find his true purpose after experiencing so much loss in his life.

Parts of this breathtakingly beautiful love story written by the wonderful author LJ Evans had me in tears. The struggles and challenges these two incredible characters were forced to overcome were heartbreaking and deep. Nash’s protectiveness may seem a little overbearing at times, but possibly justified, and when he returns to the closest place he can call “home”, the chess pieces start to align and answers start to “bloom”.

“Red and white camellias are given to someone significant to you, and the basic message is, ‘my destiny is in your hands.”

The characters, settings, and backstories are all stunningly blended to create this phenomenally written love story. It will have you laughing, crying, and swooning. At the beginning of each chapter are lyrics of a song with some meaning to the chapter you are about to read. The suspense is based around threats and backstage happenings of Country Music singer, Brady O’Neil (who you get to know the backstory of in previous books in the series), and is so well-written. Author LJ Evans is amazing at giving you a deeper understanding of the Navy SEALS and BUD/S lifestyle.

Damaged Desires is labeled as a standalone, HOWEVER…if you read the previous three Anchor novels, you will have a much better understanding of the characters’ history, how they all fall together, and the whole dynamic of the group. I advise you to read all of them in order! Will you accept the challenge? I absolutely recommend this read with 5 stars!

Dani has left DC and returned to her hometown. She didn’t leave because of what happened to her, she had to get out of there. She is Macs sister. The hits just seem to keep coming, and she is tired of being a victim!!

Nash is a SEAL who lost his best friend during a mission. He feels guilty and responsible. He has been put on leave from his new team. He’s kind of lost, angry, and he guilt is swallowing him. He’s is a friend of Macs. He’s been asked what he has that makes him want to come back from a mission... until he can answer that, he’s staying put. What happens to him when he finds out that what he’s believed all this time.... wasn’t what it seemed?

This is such a wonderfully written, story of two people who are drawn to each other, but who can’t communicate what they are feeling, so misunderstandings abound. Mac and Dani know each other... they are attracted... but one night may change everything. What happens when the chemistry is off the charts, but it’s your friends sister? Not to mention you asked her to leave. I think Nash may be my favorite SEAL! I loved everything about him! Dani may have been attacked, but she is no victim! She’s a badass!
