Savannah is on her way to Carson City to become a school teacher but falls ill on the train. Dr. David Baker notices how unwell she is, and knows she won't survive the remainder of the trip and insists on taking her off the train when they arrive in Denver where he's purchased a building to open his own medical practice.
He secures lodging for Savannah at the Broad Street Boarding house and continues to check in on her until she's fully recovered. Since her plans to go to Carson City are no longer an option, Savannah has to find employment in Denver and asks Dr. Baker if he needs someone to cook, clean, and help out with his patients.
Once they start working together, Dr. Baker realizes she's more than just a former patient. She's kind, beautiful, and a gifted assistant. Can he convince her to be a part of his life forever, or will the trauma from her past keep them apart?
Laura grew up in a small town in central Utah and now lives in another small town in northern Utah. She always loved stargazing and imagining life outside her own little world. Though they grew up only thirty miles apart, she didn't meet her husband until they went to college. A graduate of Utah State University with a degree in Elementary and Special Education, Laura has been using that training as she raises her children and writes make believe worlds. You can usually find her on her laptop either typing away, or on social media interacting with friends.
David - new dr. in the growing Denver area. Savannah - after, aunt and alcoholic husband died she headed to become a teacher. I enjoyed reading this intriguing story that is well written with wonderful characters. Their story has a loving HEA!
Savannah and David’s story was so sweet and beautiful. David, at first, was a bit standoffish about getting too close to Savannah, as he thought he needed a “society lady” to help him get established in the right circles. But, thankfully, the he more he got to know Savannah, the more he saw her worth.
Savannah considered herself “damaged goods” due to her abusive, drunkard husband, who was now deceased. She didn’t feel worthy enough to attract David’s attentions, and was determined to remain a widow. However, his kindness and care opened her heart to realize not all men were wicked and cruel as her dead husband was.
I absolutely loved the ending! So many romance stories end with either a quick snippet of a marriage, or no mention at all, but this book…oh my heart! It was beautiful and oh so romantic ❤️🌹
"Saving Savannah" by Laura D. Bastian Thoroughly Enjoyed this story A sweet clean American West Historical Romance and a fun easy read. Because I got so caught up in the story my brain just may have done its auto-correct function while I was busy in the story causing me to miss taking note of possible edit errors. This is a worthy read. I loved my time in this story. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading ! ! NOTE: I received an ARC of this story from the author. I had promised to report typos and write a review. I found a couple of typos and fear that I may have missed 1. This review expresses my honest opinion.
What wonderful characters! There's not a whole lot of backstory, just enough to get a feel for them. We already know the ladies of the boarding house, and here we're reminded of what sweethearts they are.
The main characters fall in love without realizing it... one of my favorite tropes.
It was destiny. She was destined to be sick on that train. He was destined to be on that train to save her life. Had she not been sick, others would have been sitting with her. He probably would not have noticed her. It took b her going through to learn to see his goodness. It took him taking care of her to see her heart. It was destiny.
My favourite in the series, so far. This was such a sweet, cute story. Savannah is on route to her new teaching position out West but she falls ill along the way. A Doctor moving to Denver sits by her and realizes how sick she is. He helps her and then when the train arrives in Denver, he finds a place for her at the Broad Street Boarding house so Savannah can recover. The Cartwright
The doctor saves a young woman train traveler long enough to get her off at a city big enough to provide her the medical help she needs. It is also his new home where he plans to start a practice. Good characters and it was enjoyable to see this romance blossom as each worked to overcome their fears. A good read.
Absolutely loved this story! I loved how strong Savannah was despite all she had been through. I really enjoyed the sisters that run the boarding house. My favorite character however was the doctor. This is such a sweet, clean romantic story.
Savannah had had a tough life but she had persevered. David was a doctor who rescued Savannah when she was deathly ill on the train. Throw in Sybil, Sophie and Mary and you have a very enjoyable book! I highly recommend reading it!
This was a sweet story. I loved their meet cute. Very original. If he hadn't saved her though, I don't know if Savannah would have ever opened herself up to love. David and Savannah are both really good people and complemented each other so well. I enjoyed their story.
Visiting with the ladies of the Broad Street Boarding House is always a pleasure. Meeting Savannah and Dr. David Baker only adds to that pleasure. He needs to feel honored that the ladies relaxed their rules enough to allow him to treat Savannah. I enjoyed this story.
A very sweet and tender love story. Like in the other Broad Street Boarding House stories the Cartwright sisters are up to their matchmaking and general kindness to their boarders. Make you wish you could go and visit them yourself!
What a lovely man; caring, kind, mindful. I enjoy the sisters who run the B&B as well. Even Mary was friendlier in this story. The story was lovely, how it all took place and grew seamlessly. I would recommend this book, was wonderfully done. Very satisfying all around.
This is the first story in the Broad Street Boarding House series. This was a good historical book of the early frontier. Savannah and David are great characters. HEA.
A very well written book. I love the series and always love to visit with Sophia and Sybil. Savannah and David’s story was a great addition to the series.
