is a noted Tamil author and Tamil film dialogue writer. He was born in Mallankinaru, Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu.

Ramakrishnan is noted for his column Thunai Ezhuthu in the magazine Ananda Vikatan. His short stories have been translated in German, French, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam.

His other works include Kadhaa Vilaasam, Desaandri, and Alainthen Tirindhen.

எனது அபிமான எழுத்தாளர்கள் வரிசையில் ஜெயகாந்தனிற்கு பிறகு இரண்டாம் இடத்தில் இருப்பவர் எஸ் ராமகிருஷ்ணன். அவரது சிறுகதைகள், நாவல்கள், கட்டுரைகள் மட்டும் அன்றி அவரது பேச்சுகளும் மிகவும் மனதை கவரும் வகையில் இருக்கும். மணிக்கணக்காக சுவையாகப் பேசும் இந்த இனிய மனிதரின் படைப்புகளில் "எனது இந்தியா" என்கின்ற இந்த வரலாற்று கட்டுரைதொகுப்பு ஒரு இமாலய சாதனை என்றே சொல்லவேண்டும். அது மட்டுமல்ல இது அவசியமாக சகல இந்திய மொழிகளிலும் மொழிபெயர்க்கப்பட்டு பாடப்புத்தகம் ஆக்கவேண்டியது தமிழக அரசின் கடமை கூட. இப்படி ஒரு வரலாற்று தொகுப்பு இதுவரை தமிழில் வந்ததாக என் அறிவுக்கு எட்டவில்லை. ஒவ்வோர் அத்தியாயங்களும் மிகுந்த சிரத்தையுடன் ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து அதை படிப்பவர் மனதில் உறையும் வண்ணம் அவருக்கே உரிய அழகிய நடையில் எழுதி இருப்பது ஒப்பற்ற ஒரு சாதனை முயற்சி.
இந்த வரலாற்று புதினத்தொகுப்பு சாதி, மதம், மொழி, தேசம் கடந்து எல்லார் மனதையும் கொள்ளை கொள்ளும் என்பதில் எதுவித ஐயமும் இல்லை. நிச்சயம் ஒவ்வொரு தமிழனும் பெருமையுடன் கொண்டாட வேண்டிய இந்த அற்புத கலைஞர் எஸ். ரா.விற்கு எனது மனமார்ந்த நன்றிகள்!

“வரலாறு என்பது கடந்த காலமில்லை, அது நிகழ்காலத்தையும் எதிர்காலத்தையும் உருவாக்கும் அரூபசக்தி.” -  எஸ். ராமகிருஷ்ணன் 


எஸ் ராமகிருஷ்ணன் எழுதிய "சஞ்சாரம்" என்னும்  சாகித்ய அகாடமி விருது பெற்ற நாவலை வாசித்த அனுபவம் இருக்கிறது, புத்தக வாசிப்புக்கு அறிமுகமான காலகட்டம் அது. மொழி நடை கூட சற்று கடினமாக தான் இருந்தது. அதன் பின் சமீபத்தில் வாசித்த "எனது இந்தியா" என்னும் வரலாறு பற்றிய நூல் என்னை மிகவும் கவர்ந்திருந்தது. அளவிலும் கருத்திலும் ஆழம் அதிகமாகவே இருந்தது. 


"கடந்தகாலம் நிகழ் காலத்திற்கு கற்றுத்தரும் பாடத்திற்கு பெயர் தான் வரலாறு" என்று தான் இந்த நூல் தொடங்குகிறது. 152 கட்டுரைகள். இந்திய வரலாற்றில் நிகழ்ந்து பெரிதும் அறிந்துகொள்ள படாத  தகவல்களையும் செய்திகளையும் சுருக்கமாக கூறியுள்ளார் நூல் ஆசிரியர். நூலின் சிறப்பாக நான் பார்க்கும் மற்றோரு விசியம் ஒருவொரு பகுதியின் முடிவிலும் "வாருங்கள் வாசிப்போம்" என்று அவர் அறிமுகப்படுத்திய புத்தக பட்டியலை தான். 

152  பகுதிகளுக்கு 2  புத்தகங்கள் என்று, கிட்டத்தட்ட 300க்கும் அதிகமான புத்தகங்களை அவர் அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். இந்திய வரலாற்றை கரைத்து குடிக்க இவை போதுமானவையாக இருக்கும் என்றே நினைக்கிறேன். 


காந்தியை கொன்ற கோட்ஸேவின் கைத்துப்பாக்கியை பற்றி ஒரு பகுதி இருக்கிறது, எந்த அளவுக்கு நுணுக்கமான பகுதி என்றால். அந்த கை துப்பாக்கி எங்கிருந்து வந்தது?, அதில் இருந்த குண்டுகள் எத்தனை? எத்தனை முறை காந்தியை நோக்கி சுடப்பட்டது ?  என்பதை எல்லாம் விரிவாக பேசி இருந்தது. இந்த நூல் முழுக்க இருக்கும் கருத்துக்களும் அப்படிப்பட்டவை தான். வெளிச்சம் படாதா இடங்களை நோக்கி மின்விளக்கை திருப்பியுள்ளார். புத்தகத்தில் தேசியவாத வாடை அதிகமாகவே இருந்தது, சில பகுதிகள் நமது முன்முடிவுகளோடு முரண்படவும் வாய்ப்பிருக்கிறது. 


புத்தகத்தில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள இந்தியாவில் நடந்த “பஞ்சங்கள்”  பற்றிய பகுதி நம்மை உறையவைக்கிறது. அவற்றில் சில பஞ்சங்கள் பதுக்கல் முறையினால் செயற்கையாக உருவாக்க பட்டவை என்பதை அறியும்போது பதறவும் செய்கிறது. ஒரு அரசின் உணவு மேலாண்மையின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை அந்த பகுதி விளக்குகிறது. அப்படி பட்ட பஞ்சங்களில் இருந்து இன்றைக்கு உணவு உற்பத்தியில்  தன்னிறைவு(self- sufficiency) பெற்று ஏற்றுமதி செய்யும் அளவுக்கு நாம் வளர்ந்திருப்பதற்கு காரணம் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சியும், பஞ்சங்களின் மீது நாம் பொதுவாக கொண்டிருக்கும் பயமே ஆகும். இன்றைக்கும் வீட்டுக்கு வரும் விருந்தினர்களை "சாப்டீங்களா" என்று கேட்பதற்கு பின்னால் பல்வேறு பஞ்சங்களின் வரலாறு புதைந்திருக்க தான் செய்கிறது. 



இந்தியாவை ஆண்ட  மன்னர்களும், பிரிட்டிஷ் ஆட்சியாளர்களும் வாழ்ந்த சொகுசு வாழ்க்கையை பற்றி புத்தகத்தின் சில பகுதிகள் பேசுகின்றன. ஆடம்பரம் என்னும் வார்த்தையை மிஞ்சும் அளவிற்கு அவர்களின் அன்றாட வாழ்க்கை இருந்துள்ளது. தேவையற்ற செயல்களிலும், அர்த்தமற்ற கொண்டாட்டங்களிலுமே அவர்கள் நேரத்தையும், உழைப்பையும், பணத்தையும் செலவு செய்துள்ளார்கள்.  மன்னராட்சியிலும், காலனித்துவதிலும், நிலப்பிரபுதுவத்திலும்  இருந்து நம்மை விடுவித்த “ஜனநாயகத்திற்கு” நாம் நன்றி  சொல்லி தான் ஆக வேண்டும். 



பெண்கள் அனுபவித்த பிற்போக்கு சம்பர்தாயங்களான சதி, குழந்தை திருமணங்கள், தேவதாசி முறை, முலை வரி பற்றி ஒரு பகுதி பேசுகிறது. எந்த ஒரு பேரிடரில், கலவரத்திலும் அதிகம் பாதிக்கப்படுவது பெண்களே. இந்தியா பாகிஸ்தான் பிரிவினையின் பொது அவர்கள் அனுபவித்த கொடுமைகளை “Urvashi Butalia” தனது “The other side of silence” புத்தகத்தில் விரிவாக பதிவு செய்திருப்பார். அவற்றை இந்நூல் சுருக்கமாக பேசுகிறது.



தமிழகத்தில் நடக்கும் அகழாய்வுகள்  பற்றிய முக்கியத்துவத்தை ஒரு கட்டுரையில் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். சமீபத்தில் தமிழ்நாட்டின் முதலமைச்சர் திரு. மு.க ஸ்டாலின்  "இந்திய வரலாறு தமிழ்நாட்டில் தொடங்கி எழுதப்பட வேண்டும்" என்று கூறி இருப்பது எவ்வளவு பொருந்திப்  போகிறது என்பதை அந்த பகுதி உணர்த்தியது. இந்திய தேசிய அரசியலில் தமிழ்நாட்டின் முக்கியத்துவம் காலம்காலமாக  தொடர்ந்து புறக்கணிக்கப்படுவது அனைவர்க்கும் தெரிந்த ஒன்றே, அப்படிப்பட்ட சமயத்தில் இத்தகைய கட்டுரைகள் தேவை வாய்ந்த ஒன்றாக தெரிகிறது. 



இவற்றை போல் வேறு வேறு தளங்களின் ஏராளமான தகவல்களோடும் புத்தக பட்டியலோடும் கட்டுரைகள் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது. வரலாறை அறிந்து கொள்ள ஆர்வம் இருக்கும் நண்பர்கள் அவசியம் வாசித்து பயனடையவும், தேடலை அதிகரிக்க இந்த புத்தகம் நிச்சயம் உதவும்.

சரித்திரம் என்பது ஆயிரம் முகங்களும் அவற்றுள் ஆயிரம் நாக்குகளும் கொண்டது. ஒவ்வொரு நாக்கு ஒரு மாதிரி பேசும். சில நாக்குகள் உண்மையும், சில நாக்குகள் பொய்யும், பல நாக்குகள் உண்மையும் பொய்யும் கலந்த கலவையும் பேசும். சில மறைக்கப்பட்ட அல்லது மறக்கப்பட்ட செய்திகளை சில நாக்குகள் ஏதோ ஓரத்தில் பேசிக் கொண்டிருக்கும். ஆனால் அவற்றை கவனிப்பார் மிகவும் குறைவு. சரித்திரத்தைப் புரிந்து கொள்வதும் அதைப் புரிய வைப்பதும் சாதாரண காரியம் கிடையாது. 'எனது இந்தியா' என்ற இந்த நூலின் ஆசிரியர் எஸ். ராமகிருஷ்ணன் அந்த கடினமான காரியத்தை மிகவும் எளிதாகக் கையாளுகிறார்.

புத்தகக் கடைக்கோ நூலகத்துக்கோ சென்றால் பல தடி தடியான சரித்திர புத்தகங்களைப் பார்க்கலாம். ஆனால் அவை எந்த அளவுக்கு சுவாரசியமாக இருக்கும் என்பது கேள்விக்குறி. இந்தப் புத்தகமும் சரித்திரப் புத்தகம் தான். இதுவும் தடியான புத்தகம் தான். ஆனால் சரித்திரத்தை சுவைப்பட தெரிவிப்���தில் சரித்திரம் படைத்துள்ளார் இந்த ஆசிரியர்.

இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் உள்ள பல விஷயங்கள் நாம் வரலாற்றில் கவனிக்காத, மறந்து போன அல்லது ச��லரால் மறைக்கப்பட்ட உண்மைகள்.

எவரெஸ்ட் தெரியும். அது ஒரு ஆங்கில அதிகாரியின் பெயர் என்பதோ அந்த சிகரத்துக்கு இப்பெயர் வைக்கப்பட்டது அதிகார வர்கத்தின் செயல்பாடு என்பதோ நம்மில் எத்தனை பேருக்கு தெரியும்?

இன்றும் கூட ஆங்கிலர் ஆட்சியைப் புகழ்பவர்கள் நம்மிடையே உள்ளனர். அவர்கள் இந்தப் புத்தகத்தைப் படித்தால் அவர்கள் சாதி, கல்வி, விவசாயம், பொருளாதாரம் என பல்வேறு துறைகளிலும் எப்படியெல்லாம் திட்டமிட்டு நம்மைச் சுரண்டினார்கள் என்பது தெளிவாக விளங்கும்.

திப்புவையும் மருது சகோதரர்களையும் நாம் கொண்டாடி இருக்கிறோம். ஆனால் அவர்களுடைய வாரிசுகளுக்கு நேர்ந்த கதியை நினைத்துப் பார்த்ததுண்டா?

ஆங்கிலேயர் ஆட்சியில் ஏற்பட்ட பஞ்சங்களுக்கு பிணிகளுக்கும் என்ன பின்னணி என்பதை யோசித்திருப்போமா? ஆங்கிலர் ஆள்வதற்கு முன்பாக இந்த அளவு பாதிப்பு நம் நாட்டுக்கு ஏற்பட்டதுண்டா என்பதை ஆராய்ந்திருப்போமா?

உப்பு சத்தியாகிரகம் மிகவும் பிரசித்தம். ஆனால் உப்பு வேலி? அது வரலாற்றில் மறைக்கப்பட்ட கொடுமை.

ஜஹாங்கீரின் மகள், ஔரங்கசீப்பின் செருப்பு ஊர்வலம், மன்னன் ஜெய்சிங்கின் கொடுங்கோன்மை, முதல் சுதந்திரப் போருக்கு முன்னதாகவே ஏற்ப்பட்ட சந்தால் மக்களின் ஆங்கிலேயருக்கு எதிரான எழுச்சி, யேல் என்ற ஊழல்வாதியின் பெயரால் ஏற்ப்பட்ட உலகப் புகழ் வாய்ந்த பல்கலைக்கழகம், பல ஆங்கில அதிகாரிகளின் திருட்டுத்தனம் என கணக்கிலடங்கா வரலாற்று உண்மைகள் - எல்லாம் அநேகமாக நாம் கவனிக்கத் தவறிய விஷயங்கள்.

இது அனைவரும் படித்து ஆதரிக்க வேண்டிய புத்தகம்.

🔆வரலாற்றுப் பக்கங்களில் போரை தவிர்த்துவிட்டு நம்மால் படிக்க முடியாது. போரின் வெற்றியை பறைசாற்றும் நாம், அந்த போரினால் ஏற்படும் உயிர் இழப்புகள் மற்றும் பொருள் இழப்புகள் பற்றி பேசுவது இல்லை . அந்த எண்ணிக்கையை நாம் ஆராய்வோம் ஆனால் போரின் வெற்றியைக் கொண்டாட மாட்டோம் .

Wonderful book, brings out the untold history of India. It describes how rich a country, in terms of wealth, knowledge, culture and many other aspects, India was and how the country was looted and demolished of the very values it upheld. The author has done extensive research on the topics that he has written and claims to have travelled the length and breadth of the country in search of information. Very enlightening and eye-opening writing about the abuses and exploitation India and its people had to face due to the onslaught of foreign invasions that includes the Mughals, primarily the British, Portuguese, Danish but yet the information was tactfully hidden from the next generations by modifying the education systems and many other things.

What would you call a book that has covered the below topics in a crisp but effective manner ? I don't know what to say. It is more than 'n' books concise in 1. To write a review on this book it will require a book. Great compilation by Ramakrishnan sir. If you are a person who knows tamil and you would want to know about India then a must read. "வரலாறு என்பது கடந்த காலம் அல்ல .  அது , நிகழ்காலத்தை நிர்ணயிக்கும் விசை . இன்னும் சொல்வதாக இருந்தால், எதிர்காலத்தை தீர்மானிக்கப்போக்கின்ற மறைமுக சக்தி".  இந்த புத்தகத்தை படிக்கும்போது , பலவிதமான உணர்வுகள்/எண்ணங்கள் என்னுள் ஏற்பட்டது. குறிப்பாக , கோபம் மற்றும் ஆற்றாமை .

Wonderful insights on the history which can't be found in a regular history books. Author gives a clear insights on history and how we still ignore to learn lessons from past. Enjoyed this one a lot and starting its sequel "Maraikkapatta India".

Only few could make you feel so inferior with their hardwork, choice of words, outlook of life.
S. Ramakrishnan would top the list. Fascinated by his Vikatan works, I chose this book and was just awestruck on his research - he details the web pages, the books [ after each chapter]. Details on one side and the peacock feather feel of words makes this book a jewel... Revelations would include the letter by Aurangazeb to his teacher, Vascodagama, Warren Hastings, link between Yale University and the old Madras, Devadasi community, Opium wars, Vaanchi naathan, Jallian Wallah bagh, The servant who travelled to England 20 times in her life, The real name of Desingu raja, Jaya singh who ordered 20 rolls royce car, and what not

A poor person from a very humble background, coming up in life is not a big deal. What is more difficlut is to bring up a talented, educated, disciplined, yet humble person out of an afflunet family background - Many of us would normally not dwell too much into this, but I do agree

The only point is that at times, the chapters are too disjointed and short - moving back and forth in times
