My mind has been doing this thing where it's hard for me to concentrate, so that makes this review hard for me. This story is kick#ss, but my mind just isn't there..it's such a me thing and not this book thing. Imagine Jurassic Park, without the dinos. Add in some extinct animals, and a bad#ss plant.. personally, I liked to picture it as the one from Little Shop, but this one was a much larger scale .. this book is pretty kewl, it's just that I'm in some kind of reading slump right now.... If you like the Jurassic movies, check this book out

Fast and Fun but Poorly Written

You probably know what you’re getting with this book just based on the title. Your first impression on that alone is probably pretty accurate.

This book is fast and fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously and will satisfy people looking for a quick creature feature or an action horror. However, the author skips describing the setting, doesn’t describe the monsters very well, has amateur/lazy writing and uses caricatures for characters. Overall, its a mediocre read suitable for creature feature or action horror fans.

There are several scenes of gory body horror, but most of them are also poorly described.

More disappointing is its ripoff of Jurassic Park. Pretty common trope in creature features, but this one does it poorly. It even lifts the opening scene from it (the movie, not the book, unfortunately) mixing in a scene from a later Jurassic movie. But it does it stupidly and suffers for it. Its like Jurassic Park through the lens of Jurassic World: Dominion - i.e. painfully stupid.

Later it devolves into Deep Rising (a movie about criminals firing machine guns at tentacle monsters on a cruise ship) but not as good.

TLDR - Worth reading for fans of creature features or action horror, especially if on sale or free. On par with a forgettable SyFy made for TV horror movie.

There's a lot of profanity in this book - literally the first word is f**k. This didn't bother me much at all but some people might have a problem with it. The story itself borrows HEAVILY from Jurassic Park. The new park, the disaster pre-opening, the visitors sent to check it out, the cloning, the power cut, the escape. But I did enjoy the author's voice and writing style. It has a fluid style to it that made me want to keep going and some interesting turns of phrase. I just finished this book in two days so it obviously has something going for it, although I do think this writer's best work is yet to come. IMO he definitely has the talent to produce something more original and satisfying down the line!

This is my first time reading this author. It wasn't really my cup of tea but I can see how other cryptid readers enjoyed it.

What a chore. Jurassic Park meets The Ruins meets unoriginality. I feel like this was a test run for this guy as far as writing a novel. You know when you invite a girl over for dinner, maybe practice making her favorite meal before she gets there. Don’t publish your first attempt and expect her to enjoy it, otherwise she may end up with food poisoning and may not want to try your cooking again. Ahhh, metaphors.
