Travailler moins, travailler autrement, ou ne pas travailler du tout

Après la crise sanitaire et la pratique du télétravail, nous avons besoin d'un changement de paradigme. Malheureusement, les trois promesses de la modernité avancée sur la question du travail - travailler moins tout en gagnt toujours plus grâce à la société d'abondance, travailler tous de façon toujours plus agréable grâce à la civilisation du loisir et, à terme, ne plus travailler du tout grâce aux nouvelles technologies - sont totalement mystificatrices tant que l'on reste dans une économie capitaliste de croissance. La décroissance, en revance, pourrait réaliser ces promesses trahies. Elle implique, en effet, à la fois une réduction quantitative et une transformation qualitative de l'activité laborieuse, aboutissant à terme à l'abolition du rapport de servitude salariale.

Serge Latouche (born January 12, 1940) is a French emeritus professor of economics at the University of Paris-Sud. He holds a degree in political sciences, in philosophy and in economy.

Latouche is a specialist in North-South economic and cultural relations, and in the epistemology of the social sciences. He has developed a critical theory towards economic orthodoxy. He denounces economism, utilitarianism in social sciences, consumer society and the notion of sustainable development. He particularly criticizes the notions of economic efficiency and economic rationalism. He is one of the thinkers and most renowned partisans of the degrowth theory. Latouche has also published in the Revue du Mauss, a French anti-utilitarian journal.
