The Exception

Rate this book
Imagine this.
You arrive to your dream job as the first female general manager in football.
Turns out your first order of business is dinner with a new player who just signed with the team.
But he’s not just any new player. He's Dallas Connelly, Super Bowl champion.
Through a series of coincidences, he was also your steamy rebound a few months ago in Hawaii.
You can look, but you can't touch.

Because the consequences of hooking up with one of your players would be nothing short of national scandal and complete embarrassment.
Is Dallas panty-meltingly handsome with a too-cocky attitude I'd like to smack off his pretty mug?
Sure.
Do I have one, fine, maybe two fantasies about him sneaking into my office for a late-night kiss?
Sure, I admit it.

None of that matters though. Because Dallas is off-limits.

To say ours is smooth, easy romance would be a lie.

I never thought I would fall in love with a man like Dallas and break all of my rules. I certainly never imagined Dallas would be the exception.

… or that I would be his.

The Exception is a standalone romance with a happy ending.

Dallas and Reagan’s connection never managed to touch my heart.

They were a great couple at their senior year of high school but then Reagan left him so that he could follow his dream and they met 12 years later!!
The real reason she left him was obvious to me and I kept reading because I wanted to know what happened to her after the breakup.
So, when she confronted him with after all these years and I saw their reactions, I immediately dnf it.
I didn’t expect a nonchalant attitude by them both. As if nothing ever happened...

I didn’t like the heroine, I wasn’t convinced of their love and the writing was just ok.
Al in all, nothing worked for me with this exception...🤷🏻‍♀️

Here we go again. A heroine who is so stupid that she pushes the hero way too much and too fcking annoying. Not because the hero was in a mafia or anything bad like that, but because she was afraid and so insecure about herself. Makes me want to slap this woman😂😂😂

THIS IS A SECOND ROMANCE LOVE STORY. SAFE BUT FULL OF PAST OF COURSE AND THE PAST WAS MESSY SO PREPARE YOURSELF lol.

THE HEROINE AND HERO DATED BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL, NOT ONE NIGHT STAND KINDA RELATIONSHIP. BUT IT WAS REAL PURE LOVE RELATIONSHIP. It was cute and romantic! We only see few scenes of it but it was there and it was enough…. They’re separated and break up because of a reason and it was TWELVE. YES. 12 YEARS LATER…. They meet again.

“What a pleasant surprise to see you in flesh. It’s been much too long.” The hero said.

The heroine have a loser boyfriend though at the moment when they met but it was not a serious, I only see the boyfriend sent the heroine a texts but it was a formal text and nothing more. Nothing of that man showing up in person to the heroine when she was finally meeting the hero again.

“I don’t see any ring on that finger. This guy doesn’t have an issue with full commitment, does he? How long have you been dating? Same guy who’s been in the picture for a while?”

The heroine and that boyfriend eventually break up and since then the hero starting seeing the hero just having s*x with him but both didn’t make it clear that was a relationship. Both just enjoying themself, be with each other and have good time from it… NO other people comes after they have that sort of relationship, so even though both of them didn’t say it was official but it seems like one at first because both are loyal and never touch or go to anyone else… And of course after that, both have a serious relationship and go public.

But before they have s*x again after 12 years later, before they have that kinda relationship, the heroine have a boyfriend and the hero ask some woman to go with him on a party but only for few minutes in that party because he went running to meet the heroine after he saw her.

I love the way the hero describes how he first saw the heroine and how he felt for her back in high school and still remember that feeling even after 12 years later 🥺

“I never could stop thinking about you. Try as I might. As many hot new women as I dated, I was always so attracted to the whole you. Your body and your beautiful head that can’t stop thinking, your analytical brain that I was always in awe of. Yes. Awe. I never could stop picturing you as a QueenZ and damned if you don’t look like oke right now, with that bikini showing off all the best parts of you. My naughty, beautiful queen.”

The heroine is very special to him and was different from any other girl at school. The heroine didn’t always go to parties.

“She challenged me. She didn’t want to slob all over my knob just because I some star.”

Their chemistry and love to each other is stronger when they meet again.

“After all these years, She’s still occupied space in my brain.”

“She was the first woman I ever fell in love with.”

So it was romantic and emotional to read. Even though the heroine is not my favorite character in this book, but the hero really made me in love with them. THE HERO MADE ME GIVE THIS 3 STARS.

‼️‼️‼️TRIGGER: Death, long separation time, miscarriage, violence and alcohol.

‼️‼️‼️THE HERO IS NOT A MANWHOR*. He have s*x but not a manwhor* and not always been photographed with a woman. Not always.

“Although with the tabloids following his every move, he’s never been shown with even a girlfriend.”

“I’m not the kind of man who frivolously sleeps with women. I leave that to the fckboys. I already know I can sleep with any woman in the city, so s*x for s*x’s sake has kind of lost its appeal.”

‼️‼️‼️NO CHEATING

‼️‼️‼️NO VIRGINS. Actually when they dated in high school, the heroine didn’t say she was a virgin or even the hero. So I don’t know… Both just said that they do naughty things back in that day but nothing virgin comes up.

‼️‼️‼️VERY HOT SMUT SCENES. Yes. S*x. Both are clean too but at first they were using protection.

‼️‼️‼️LOVE IN FIRST SIGHT.

‼️‼️‼️THE HERO IS POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE. But not over the top. The hero is top football player and wins Super Bowls like that for three times.

‼️‼️‼️THE HEROINE IS TWENTY NINE YEARS OLD. Idk about the hero though but because they go to the same class, i guess maybe in the same age or the hero is older than a year.

‼️‼️‼️THE HERO SAID TO THE HEROINE YOU ARE MINE. MINE. MINE.

‼️‼️‼️IT HAS SEPARATION FOR TWELVE YEARS AND WHEN THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN, IT HAS SEPARATION AGAIN BUT ONLY FOR FEW DAYS because for a stupid reason from the heroine. When they separated for twelve years, of course both of them are with someone. But after twelve years later, no one else.

“Sure i’ve had my hookups, but none were long-term, and few ever spent the night. Not only for myself, but I had to be careful for the team too.”

‼️‼️‼️NO DRAMA WITH OW AND OM. THE DRAMA IS ABOUT THEIR TEAM BECAUSE THEY WORK TOGETHER AND OTHER DRAMA IS ABOUT THEMSELF…

The heroine is the main drama queen ever. Not too much though but enough for me to want to slap her sometimes because how idiot and childish she is to herself and to the hero that was so unnecessary for her to do that to him or to say things to him. Things that is unnecessary. The heroine is selfish like that.

“I never got a satisfactory answer for why. And what with my abandonment issues of not even knowing my own parents, I never quite got over the fact that I felt so close to her, and she just up and left like that.”

And she always use that reason of her to push the hero away and always scared and insecure about herself.

‼️‼️‼️IT HAS PUSHING AWAY FROM THE HEROINE THAT IS WAY TOO MUCH AND TOO ANNOYING.
“You ran from him when you were eighteen. Now you’re out here doing the same thing.”
Like almost halfway throughout the book. THE HERO NEVER PUSH THE HEROINE AWAY. Maybe when they were younger like twelve years ago the hero push the heroine away but not when they meet again. Never.

‼️‼️‼️NOT MANY JEALOUS SCENES FROM BOTH BUT IT WAS THERE. LITTLE JEALOUS SCENES…

“I’m not going to stand here and watch some guy hit on you.”

‼️‼️‼️WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK:

1. When the hero goes to jail because he was defending the heroine, the heroine know about it but never go to him to bail him out or help him because she was reason he was in jail in the first place. Like come on. Instead of helping the great amazing hero, she ran away and got scared and have that stupid episode of her thinking she was right. When she’s not right!!!! The fck is wrong with her. She did in the end regret it but like come on, run away? 🙄🙄🙄
2. SEPARATED FOR TWELVE YEARS. Like come on. That long?!! Too long means too annoying for me.
3. The heroine kept a big secret to the hero for twelve years. She told him after twelve years later. Better late than never but damn that was too late and too fcked up of her.
4. The heroine’s grandpa helped the couple to meet up again and got talking and everything. But after twelve years later? Thats too long. Why not sooner? Wtf.
5. The heroine is always so denial about her feelings for the hero when the hero always great to her. She always thought something bad about him and always puts him down, at first though but it that happens like couple of times and that was annoying.

‼️‼️‼️HAPPY ENDING. Married, have beautiful child.

👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽Thank you so much for reading my review❤️❤️ For you who loves my review and follow it, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I did not get paid or be told to do a review on a book. I’m here just to write review about a book so i can remember it. Its my honest opinion😚 I didn’t know at first people will find me and follow me and trust me to be honest, I was surprised myself to look at the notifications from people who reach out to me😆 So everything i write down here on a review is based on my personal opinion and based on my true writing. I DID NOT COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW OR WRITING SKILL because at first when i was using this app for one year i didn’t know how to scroll down on a book and see the reviews from others😂😅🤣 I know, silly me but hey I finally learned my lesson 😛😛😛 Thats why when people assume i copy someone’s review i was like what? Because at first i didn’t know how to use this app properly and i didn’t know how to open someone’s review because for a year i never follow someone or add friends or someone😂😂😂🤣 (I’m laughing so hard) 🤪 AND I NEVER COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW EVER. IF I WRITE SOMETHING WRONG OR DOESN’T MAKE SENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND BE NICE OKAY. 👈🏽👈🏽👈🏽✋🏽✋🏽

I have a disclaimer down bellow if you have negative thoughts about my review😙😙😙

🌐🌐🌐➡️↘️⬇️➡️This is my own personal thoughts and opinion about the book so if thats not sit right with you or you feel I’m not being fair blablabla, please know that everybody in this world have their own different things that they like and don’t like. It may not be the same thing with you but thats okay because i am my own person and you cannot control me or tell me what to do. For example; i put ketchup (tomato sauce) on my fried chicken. You think that’s disgusting? For me its not and i’ve been eating it like that for many many years. You tell me to put another sauce and see if i like that better? I already did many many times in years but i still like the way i like it. It’s called differences between me and you and billions people in this world😊 be open minded😙 I respect people’s opinions about my opinions but in the end of the day if i say I don’t like it or i do like it, its up to me and its on me. And in the end of the day i always liked and show my respect to books and people’s opinions on books whenever that book is good or not good in my opinion 😊 Respect people’s opinions guys😙😙 I don’t want to write this down because its not really my thing to do it. To like address something like this when obviously i know the people who’s been reading my reviews many times and all the time, they are smart enough to understand and respect other people’s opinions no matter what their opinions on book or their point of view 😙😙 am i right? 💕 also there are people even though i already write “this book is different because i have my own taste of book” those people still comment my taste is this and that when HELLO… everybody have their own thoughts on books and what they want to read… why i read it then? I read it and give it a review because i have to read a book to give it a review… why not read the description book to understand before I’m going to read it? Hello just in case you haven’t notice, description books can be tricky because they write this amazing things about a book but turns out the story is so toxic. Maybe for me its toxic but not for you? YES HELLO THATS WHY US HUMAN BEING HAVE OUR DIFFERENCES, WHAT I LIKE IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU WILL LIKE IT AND EITHER WAY TOO. why i still write the review then if i just don’t like a book? Because I CAN and i want to, you cannot tell me what to do and not what to do🤪 if you still wants to be negative and be karens about my review on book after all of what i just write, i will never acknowledge you and simply ignore you because its not that hard🙏 I won’t respond to negativity comments🙏🏼🙏🏼 DON’T ASK ME AGAIN ABOUT WHY NOT RESPONDING TO YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS BECAUSE I ALREADY SAY IT HERE AND I WON’T BE EXPLAINING AGAIN BECAUSE WE’RE NOT CHILDREN SO ITS NOT HARD FOR YOU AN ADULT TO UNDERSTAND😌😌 YES MY REVIEW IS LONG BUT YOU READ IT ANYWAY AND ITS FINE ACTUALLY I CAN WRITE AS LONG AS I LIKE😎 YES MY GRAMMAR IS BAD SOMETIMES AND MAYBE ALL THE TIME BUT LUCKILY MANY PEOPLE CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M SAYING🤪 ⬅️↖️↕️⬅️↩️⤴️

Prologue leaves us wondering what happened between them. Mickey Miller really knows how to write. I felt like I was watching the superbowl game where she was hoping Dallas didn't win. The suspense had me hook like I was actually watching the game.

I don't understand why Rea hates Dallas so much when she was the on that broke it off. I have a feeling why and I hate when women do that.  Rea really getting on my nerves not sure if its just me.

I reached part 2 and half of me will like to stop reading. I don't know why I can't keep my attention towards finishing this one. Its actually taken way longer than it should. I've never found one Mickey books to drag but this one does for me. Its the third time I picked this book up and tried to read it. I just can't see myself finishing it. DNF 46%

I've never not finished a arc read but I can't with this one.

This may be my favorite book from Mickey so far. It was spicy, heartfelt, emotional and not to mention had old-fashioned humor that I’ve come to find in his books. But it mostly felt like I was reading a real person’s life even though it had dual POVs. This will definitely be on my favorites list of 2021 I guarantee you that.

Dallas and Reagan’s story had me engaged from the beginning. These two were high school sweethearts until they weren’t but when fate brings them back in each other’s orbit several years later there homecoming is not necessarily welcome lol. Super cute story

Mickey Miller has done it again with a new stand alone novel that makes you want to keep on reading and not put your book down until the final page. Set in the world of football, The Exception, brings us Reagan and Dallas, high school sweethearts that never got that closure that comes with a fast break up. Fast forward 12 years and a clever Grandpa wanting to give fate a push and sparks are ready to burst into flame once more.

I enjoyed this book by Mickey Miller. I enjoyed the football type background and the fun Easter eggs from past books. I think my favorite part of this book, besides the epilogues, was the new setting. Being a stand alone, I get to wonder if Reagan and Dallas will pop up somewhere else in the Miller-verse. Also, truthfully, y’all epilogues are my jam! That future peek is so much fun for me as a reader.

Favorite quote: “We’ve seen each other at our worst. And I think that makes our friendship stronger, really. Because we know how to forgive each other. I’m going to be here for you, no matter what.”

I'm a sucker for a second chance romance and this book did deliver on that. Parts of this I loved, like them actually rekindling something they thought was lost, well she did anyway. This was pretty hot and those two really burn up the sheets. Reagan and Dallas are in a tough situation and trying to get to know each other now as adults.
Other parts, well, I will say that I spent much of the book angry at Reagan for her decision in the past and for the reveal so many years later. I didn't like how Dallas forgave her so easily for that.
He also made me angry with how careless he was about her career which he knows is extremely important to her. So flippant about everything that happens to her with that like it doesn't matter and she let's him get away with it.
Not a bad book, just not my favorite. The characters actions and situations are what made this one not for me.

I have been on a reading hiatus, but I am so glad I made an exception with this one!

The Exception is a heartwarming, steamy, fun and steamy ride (yes, I know that I said steamy twice!). It keeps you engaged with humour, fun, honesty, heart melting moments, sexual tension and so much heat.

This book is written well, Mickey Miller gives you the feels with the right mix of tension, fun, seriousness and steam. It’s full of great characters with real emotion surrounded by great descriptions and sets the scene extremely well. Making it easy to lose yourself in their world.

Dallas and Reagan reel you in from the very beginning with their witty, flirty banter and amazing chemistry. (Did I mention the tension?)

I highly recommend this book. Another great title from Mickey Miller.

I enjoyed this book. This book kept me engaged and entertained. The story is a complex blend of emotions, drama, heart and heat. This is a book that is going to stir your emotions and quite possible inspire strong opinions. I know it sure did for me. I loved Dallas so much and I thought he was a true keeper. He was a swoon worthy, genuinely decent guy that had huge heart and knew how to talk dirty. As for Reagan though, I was honestly not a fan. I could feel for her and even kind of understand her, but I just didn't connect with her and if I'm frank, I didn't like her. Their story is sweet, poignant, funny and very heart tugging. I am posting an unbiased, unsolicited review.

In The Exception by Mickey Miller, we get another great sports romance that was emotional, steamy, and fun to read. In this second chance romance, the last thing Reagan expected when she became manager of a football team was Dallas. Her ex, Dallas. The chemistry is still there between them, but he is totally off limits, right? Plus, there is so much history there and a future they both are fighting for. But can they deny what they share? I laughed, swooned, and devoured this story. I loved their characters and their journey so much.

Happy reading!

Oh my where do I start? This is a phenomenal enemies to lovers sports romance. Dallas caught my attention right away and my goodness did Reagan and Dallas ever have an incredible love story. What they have is real and deep and you will end up not wanting to put it down. The buildup is so worth it. You will absolutely enjoy The Exception. 🙂. I give it 5 stars. Definitely won’t be letdown by those extra spicy love scenes either. Mickey Miller again delivers a wonderful and super spicy book.

I devoured this story. This author always combines a philosophical aspect with hot and steamy storylines. Each story is more and more enjoyable and brings that next level of everything. I couldn’t sleep knowing that I needed to find out what happens with Dallas and Reagan. This is more than a sports, friends to lovers to enemies to lovers romance story. Click this one. It’s a must read.

How!?!?! How does this book have so many stars!!??? Did we read the same book??

I kept thinking, maybe it’ll get better, but it doesn’t get better, just progressively worse. And it was like a train wreck I just kept torturing myself through it.

The writing is very immature. And the fMC is very immature. Reagan is supposed to be 29, going on 30yo. But in her Lyft she tells the driver, “If you like Dallas so much, then why don’t you marry him?” Because he thinks Dallas (the mMC) is a good player and will probably win the Super Bowl game for the third time in a row. So Reagan, being butt hurt over anything complimenting Dallas, decided she’s in 2nd grade and used a kiddie “insult” and is serious. Really!?

Then you have the inconsistencies and they are SO bad, I wonder if this author has some sort of amnesia (like Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates because good lord the amount of errors is appalling!).

1. Reagan’s grandmother passed away a couple of years before the book starts when Reagan is 18, but the author uses “grandparents” when telling us about Reagan going towns away to see a doctor in secret, (and come on now, we all could predict why she was seeing a doctor. But that’s besides the point right now.) So Reagan goes far away so word doesn’t get back to her grandparents, but her grandmother is dead by this point, so…it should be just grandparent. No “s” because she only has one grandfather in the picture.

2. On Mel and Reagan’s first night in Hawaii, they get up from their table and go for a walk from their supposedly late dinner even though the sun is only setting as they walk…🤔…and then it says the server brings their bill and they leave. Huh!? Weren’t they walking!? How did they transport back to the table!?

3. Or how about when Reagan flashes back to 12 years ago when she asked her grandfather to send her to study abroad in France at the dinner she made for him. After this she goes to her room and not 20min later he comes up to say he thought about it “all night” - what!? It hasn’t even been an hour!

4. It’s repeatedly said that Reagan’s dad is her grandfather’s son. But in the flashback scene Reagan is recalling the lectures her grandfather would give her after she was out with Dallas and at that point it says her grandfather couldn’t get over his only daughter marrying her 8th grade boyfriend (Reagan’s dad). So clearly the author once again forgot what the hell she’s writing in this book. Is the grandfather the dad’s father or the mom’s? So many errors! By the end of the book, it seems like he’s Reagan’s mother’s father again🙄🙄🙄 so the author doesn’t understand paternal vs maternal grandfather and thinks that’s interchangeable.

5. Earlier in the book, Reagan is thinking about “the secret”🙄 and how no one knows except her and her French homestay mom. Then after Dallas and Reagan end up working for the Chicago team, her grandfather is suddenly in the know about “the secret” - seriously!!!! Why is this author so bad at knowing what the fuck she’s writing in her own book!!!!??

6. The pregnancy test. Reagan says she didn’t take it yet but figured she can during dinner at her mom’s house and they can look at it together after dinner. This changes as soon as you get to the next page (The. Next. Page!!) and it’s set up now that she already took the test but didn’t look at it, and now they’ll wait to check the results when they get back to their rental. Seriously!? Wtf!

7. Dallas punching Jeremy at the hospital, and then Jeremy getting up and telling Dallas it wasn’t him who leaked the story but Bob, another guy they work with. And later when Vince picks up Dallas, he tells Dallas that Jeremy was knocked out and didn’t come to for a few minutes when Dallas punched him. Uh wtf! Did he not yell at Dallas that it wasn’t him and Dallas punched the wrong guy, right after!!!??? This author is so shitty I don’t even know how this book got published.

The writing is just really bad because it doesn’t make a lot of sense. It needs so much editing so the story can flow without these mistakes.

The author wrote such a flaky unlikeable character. Reagan acts like a cold woman and a child all in the same scenes. She’s quite immature and quite stupid. The more I read, the more I hated Reagan. And why did she hate Dallas so much when she’s the one who broke up with him then ghosted him!!? Reagan has to grow up. And this author needs an editor. And some kind of organization to keep track of things they are writing in the same scenes!! Not even chapters later, though that was a problem too. I mean how hard it is to keep your story straight! And all these positive reviews, seriously, HOW? This was so ridiculously sloppy! I don’t get how people loved it.

Fantastic read

Dallas and Reagan were high school sweethearts. Dallas had gotten excepted to a college on a full football scholarship. Reagan just found out she was pregnant. She wanted to make sure he didn’t miss out on his dream, so she goes to Paris without telling him why. Ten years later he is a football god. They run into each other (thanks to some doing from her Granddad). They have a ton of Misunderstandings but finally figure everything out and are able to find their HEA.

An adorable love story with lots of little twists and turns.
Its a true example of how choices made early in life can haunt you when you get older.
I love the characters in the story. Reagan is an absolute heroin. Not only is she beautiful but smart and ambitious and a little bit of a nerd which I love. Dallas is the typical footballer cocky and hot lol, but I do love the devotion he has for Reagan. Lots of twists and hot scenes. Couldn't put it down once I started it. Totally recommend. HEA!!

A cute sports romance read!

A cute sports/second chance romance read that didn’t disappoint. Dallas and Reagan’s were high school sweethearts until she ghosted him and broke his heart. But fate brings them back together in a meeting that sets them up for another chance. This was an engaging storyline that kept me flipping the pages from start to finish. I love how their HEA worked out in the end with all the drama and surprises.

Football Romance ❤️ 🏈 💙 🏈

I like Micky Miller, and I think this is his his best book yet. There’s second chance romance, football, angst and strong characters that make it all worth reading.

We all make mistakes in our youth, and Reagan makes some big ones as she navigates her relationship with Dallas. They both go on to big careers and their second chance is hot and sweet to experience. A very good read.

I absolutely loved this book and it was exactly what I needed right now! There were definitely times I wanted to yell at these characters...but hey, is it even a good book if you don't? lol
I'll admit thought, I had this book on my kindle and kinda forgot what it was about, so after reading the blurb about the book, I can understand some people's frustration as the plot plays out a bit differently.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it!

Great read

Reagan and Dallas were high school sweethearts, but life inserted itself and Reagan ran away keeping a secret. Years later fate lands them next to each other on a flight to Hawaii. Banter, slow burn, rekindled love and taboo work place relationship and you get a great read! Mickey has done it again!

wow

Wow, just wow. I really love Reagan and Dallas’ Story. Reagan is so strong and smart it’s scary… Dallas knows from a young age what he wants… It’s just what’s in between that makes the story great. The only thing missing is that grandpa left her the Bears When he passed. Now we really need Mel and Vinces story next!

Okay read…

But it could have been a great book. I did not like Reagan she was rude and selfish. All Dallas did was chase her and she was ungrateful to have such a great guy. I think the h clouded how I looked at the HEA ending especially when they changed the H eye color again lol

Loved this. Realistic characters and great story. Reagan and Dallas meet again after a failed early relationship, odds are stacked against a new relationship. Old issues and business problems come between them.

Loved it!

This got me out of my reading slump after Onyx Storm!! Great love story between Dallas & Reagan. Loved the characters learning about themselves and then returning to each other.

Awesome read!

I read this book in one day it was that good. The chemistry between Dallas and Reagan was off the charts. You have to read this book. Best one yet by Mickey Miller.
