In hindsight, opening a Christmas tree ornament shop in a small town was a terrible idea. The Thanksgiving turkey is still warm, and I’m already up to my eyeballs in debt from my failed business. To make matters worse, my knight in flannel never appeared—you know, the guy, the one who was tall, dark, and plaid, who had a friendly yellow lab and a truck and sold firewood, the one who showed the big-city heroine the true meaning of love and Christmas. Yeah, he did not come rescue me.
Instead, Matt Frost showed up like the Prince of Winter to yell at me about the rent I owed him. He did not feature in any of my Christmas fantasies. In fact, he was exactly the type of Christmas-hating alphahole billionaire in a suit I left Manhattan to escape.
I can’t worry about him. I need to fix my life. I have to make a bunch of money before Christmas Eve or I’m a toasted marshmallow.
No ornament will be left off this Christmas tree of desperation! Gambling on the Christmas raffle that lets you win either ten thousand dollars, a giant snow globe, or a snack-addicted reindeer? Spin that roulette wheel and bring it on. Moonlighting as an elf for an irate Santa? Mama’s gotta get paid. Entering in The Great Christmas Bake-Off in hopes of winning the grand prize? Fetch me my custom elf apron. I so have this bake-off wrapped, ribboned, and in my Christmas stocking.
Except when I’m paired with Matt the Grinch, I see my dreams of a debt-free Christmas going up in Yule log flames. Matt Frost and I are not compatible baking partners. Especially not after he licks the frosting off my Christmas cookies while I scream..
Not like that! He’s a Christmas-hating Scrooge who ruined my bake-off entry. I am not in the market for a Christmas romance. Especially not with a six-foot-five guy with ice-blue eyes and washboard abs. No, not even when he’s covered in frosting, standing in front of a decorated tree, and looking better than an edible Christmas card. Nope, not even then.
‘Tis the season for holiday romance! This is a full-length standalone holiday romantic comedy with nonstop Christmas and romance. If you love over-the-top small-town Christmas festivals, overbearing but well-meaning great-aunts, and smoking hot guys in nothing but a Santa hat who will melt the snow off the roof of your house, snuggle up with a spiked hot chocolate and get in the Christmas romance spirit!
Once this picked up, it was a fun time. Very christmasy, spicy, light. I think I would have liked this more if I didn't want to shoot Matt out of a cannon for the first almost half of the book. Also they don't start boinkin until like 60% which...for a book titled what it is, was a little disappointing.
1.5 stars for it being Christmas themed and having a cute dog.
The over the top and ridiculous scenarios had me checking out early on. Homeless - annoyingly next level quirky and childish - MC who sleeps in a nativity scene and in a Christmas tree farm in the cold (and not showering?!) despite having friends and family and being a business owner? The “billionaire” hero who acts like a child and anything but a successful businessman (and billionaire? Come on now). The typical witchy cheating ex. The long drawn out cooking scenes that went on for chapters and chapters. The nonstop side characters and town events that served no purpose other than to add filler to an already bland book.
My search for a cute Christmas romcom hit a dead end again.
Welp. I aborted this sucker about 65% of the way through. I expected a lot more steam with a title like that, a lot less eating of junk food, and maybe not so much glorifying of homelessness. But hey, that’s just me. If ~600 page books are your thing then go to town.
This is a really fun and very steamy Christmas book! I adored Merrie and her unflagging optimism and Christmas spirit, and Matt was the perfect (and very sexy) foil for her to spar with!
This was the most ridiculous book. I was going to give it 1 star, BUT upped it to two - because all the stuff in it that was just over the top, I was enjoying sharing with people how annoying it was. Haha. It made for some hilarious discussions. First off - The main character took her whole life savings and bought an over abundance of Christmas Ornaments and opened a store in a small town that ONLY sold ornaments. That was her whole plan. Of coarse, it failed miserably, and she had no customers, and couldn't even pay her rent. She was sleeping in her store in a sleeping bag and kept mentioning over and over for half the book how she didn't bathe and just took sponge baths. Then she got kicked out of staying in her store and was sleeping in the park on the ground IN THE MIDDLE OF A NY WINTER. Even one night in shorts, when it snowed the next night. Seriously?? In the beginning she "borrowed" an oven from someone for her shop to make cookies. WHO BORROWS an OVEN?? We later learn it's a small, portable, oven? The Hate to Love interest was a billionaire, which was mentioned over and over the whole book. "I'm a billionaire." "You have a billionaire boyfriend", and he acted like a big toddler for most of the book. While complaining to my husband about the billionaire acting like a toddler, he was like - Well - think of Elon Musk. lol. At one point she win's a raffle, but the prize was destroyed, because it was ate by this Reindeer that wanders around town with a sweater on, eating everyone's food and the raffle guy is just like "Well, your prize is this Reindeer - congrats." and she just accepts it like, "Oh! OK! Gosh - I need to find a place for this thing!" and goes to her "billionaire boyfriends place of work, where the reindeer follows her and squeezes in the door with her and destroys the office. BUT things work out and her "billionare" boyfriend agrees to keep the reigndeer and loads it in his SUV WITH his St Bernard and drives it to his mansion. Yep, you read that right. He fits a full grown reindeer, antlers and all, and a huge dog in the back of his SUV, no problem. The whole book I just kept thinking about how dirty this girl must be and was hoping she was showering before she had her sexy time with all the licking going on. Haha. I found myself highlighting passages as I went when these ridiculous things were happening, and thinking, seriously?? Oh - and there as a bake off in the middle of all this and they talk about how it was all these professional bakers, but 2 of the teams were the main character and the "billionaire's" ex fiancé and of course, those were the two teams at the end still left. - and Brody, the "lumberjack" who was full of himself and made it a goal to sleep with every woman in town, going as low as to sleep with the main character's MOTHER to get closer to the main character?? Anyway - this book was just too much and WHY was it 586 pages??? Though - for having that many pages, it did read really fast. I had a friend read it who said, since she went into it EXPECTING satire, she was able to enjoy it - so maybe, if you plan to read it, just know it's very corny and ridiculous, and maybe you can read it and enjoy the humor of it. (I'm not sure if it was written with that intent - but I sure hope so! - lol)

This book was so painfully bad that I’m giving it one star…which I usually reserve for cheating and manwhores. As much as I’ve tried, I can’t think of a single thing about this book that I liked or even tolerated.
The plot is just stupid. I mean, the bakeoff, her failing business (that she completely neglects), the one dimensional characters, the long drawn out story (bored to freaking tears). It was imbecilic, boring, cringy, and while I’m sure there was supposed to be humour, it was just not funny or entertaining.
Both main characters are terrible. There is no chemistry, both of them have mood swings and jump to conclusions, nothing they did made any sense! Merrie is by far the worst…she is an idiot (sorry, but there’s no way to be nice about this), she’s failing at an ill-conceived and improperly planned business, and all she does is talk about food (which she eats for free because it’s always being brought to her by a friend or family member). I have no idea what these two idiots saw in each other.
I hated every secondary character - all caricatures and not a single interesting or normal person in the bunch.
And while normally I’d at least try to give 2 stars for the writing…this was poorly written and poorly edited. When secondary characters have misspelt names, its one step too far. And I’m ok with plots that need a little suspension of reality…but this was too much. Raffles where the prize are ACTUAL reindeer, an ACTUAL full size sleight…what the hell did I just read?
I need to stop - this was just one of the worst things I’ve read in the last couple of years.

Another hilarious story by this author. I was super excited to read this story because of the hero’s involvement in previous books. It did not disappoint. The story was super fun and was a great easy story for a bad day. I can’t wait for what’s next.
I received a review copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
You know how not all traditions are super stellar but it’s still somehow fun and a thing you do…? Reading this series is precisely that for me. Is it great, must-read material? Not in the slightest. Is it still wildly entertaining and a sweet tradition I indulge in each Christmas season? Absolutely.
I enjoyed this a lot more then some of the last ones. This one at least seemed to be a bit more original and not as repetitive as the previous 2. I enjoyed the new setting and ex fiancée.
Well… uhm… what a letdown this was. After being elated by book three, this one dragged me right back down. Because seriously, what in hells?! Matt seemed decent in the earlier books, so I was shocked to see this side of him from the very first chapter. I stumbled through the rest feeling conflicted, a teensy bit enjoyable, yes, but mostly frustrating and far from my liking.
By the fourth book, I think I’ve finally gotten used to Alina Jacobs’ signature style. Yep, it's the same outline every time with meddling ex, annoying parents, corny but funny banter. Things only shifted slightly up through book three, but beyond that the series keeps recycling the same vibes. Honestly, I suspect she’s carried this formula into her other series too.
Licking Her Christmas Cookies leans hard into the grumpy/sunshine trope, pairing Merrie—a quirky, Christmas‑obsessed optimist—with Matt Frost, her billionaire landlord who starts out more Scrooge than hero. Merrie’s ornament shop is struggling, she owes Matt months of rent, and their clashes quickly spiral into small‑town chaos filled with meddling neighbors, nosy supported characters, and plenty of holiday innuendos.
The book has its charms: the snowy New York setting, a lively other supporting cast, and Merrie’s bubbly personality that lights up every scene. The humor is playful, the sexual puns are relentless, and the festive atmosphere is good enough. Once the story picks up, it’s light, spicy, and entertaining enough to keep you turning pages. But the flaws are hard to ignore. At more than 500 pages, it drags with repetition and uneven pacing. The lots of typos and the mismatched between the cover art and the characters description in the book at times also irks me.
Matt’s impulsive, petty, and often downright cruel behavior pushes him dangerously close to irredeemable, and his constant “but I’m a billionaire!” refrain makes him one of the weakest Frost brothers so far. The slow‑burn romance drags under endless miscommunications and trust issues that could’ve been solved in a single conversation. His over‑the‑top grand gesture after the third breakup doesn’t redeem him, though it adds a bit of entertainment. What truly kept me from DNF‑ing were the Jonathan and Morticia as cameos brought a spark of fun, and the Frost siblings as a whole added charm, especially in the epilogue where Matt and Merrie host a chaotic Christmas dinner party.
In the end, this book is another chaotic holiday rom‑com with funny, festive, and full of over‑the‑top antics, but weighed down by an unlikeable mmc and too much filler. Merrie’s sunshine energy and the small‑town Christmas madness keep it entertaining, even if Matt makes me want to launch him out of a cannon. 🎄🍪
Big kudos to Bradley Ford and Devon Grace for narrating this audiobook. Even without a duet format, their performances kept me hooked from start to finish. Bradley nailed Matt’s grumpy edge, while Devon gave Merrie the perfect mix of warmth and sparkle. Together, they captured both the humor and the heart of the story, making the listen vibrant and fun all the way through.
To the last book we go. Only one Frost brother remains, and my curiosity is at its peak. Matt and Oliver have been lurking since book one, popping up here and there as the younger siblings, and finally it’s Oliver’s turn. There’s no clear hint yet about who he’ll encounter, and judging by the blurb, the bake‑off might not even continue in the next book again. I kept guessing in book four and was surprised to find the competition still there, just with a different vibe. But hey, let’s see what kind of final chaos awaits. So yes, I’m coming in hot into Resting Grinch Face like it’s the finale I deserve. 💥🏃🏻♀️
I have very mixed feelings about this one. There were some things I really enjoyed. There were other things I really didn’t. Let’s start with the good.
The good: - Merrie is a great character. She fun and quirky. I love her love of Christmas. She’s definitely the sunshine in the book. - ott plot was fun. Was it believable? Not really, but I can let a lot go for the sake of a fun plot.
The not so good: - Matt. He kind of sucked. One of my least favorite book BFs ever. His impulsive d**k decisions when he got angry affected merrie drastically (and she forgives each time way too easily). I just think it’s not healthy to get mad and kick someone out of a lease with little notice knowing it will affect them them tremendously. This is normally the villain’s job. Not the hero’s. Idc if he’s supposed to be the trump, he often just sucked. Especially every time he said “but I’m a billionaire!” 🤦♀️ and especially not when he says it after telling her she owes him 10k or she’s done. - more on Matt: I’m telling Matt just sucked. The good stuff doesn’t make up for it. From the way he tried to ruin her bake-off chances (one of those unbelievable plot points I let go) to his unhealthy decisions made in anger. And yes. He does some nice things. But as he points out MULTIPLE times, he’s a billionaire, he can afford it. Those nice things are chump change for him. One of the many reasons billionaires suck. - the typos, there are many. Edit. - too long. A romcom does not need to be 500 pages. - cover doesn’t match the characters. Merrie has curly red hair (not straight brown) and Matt has platinum bling hair (not black).
Overall, it was mostly fine. I didn’t hate it. There was enough funny stuff to keep in. And I liked merrie. But I rate just on the left of neutral because of Matt. So 2.75 stars.
This book was a refreshing change from the first three in the series. While the baking competition made a return, it didn’t dominate the story, allowing for a more unique and engaging plot. The cozy small-town setting, in contrast to the previous books’ Manhattan backdrop, added a delightful charm and made the story feel warmer and more relatable.
The relationship between the main characters progressed in a much more natural and realistic way, which I appreciated compared to the sometimes formulaic romances in earlier installments. As always, the humor was spot-on, perfectly timed, and added just the right amount of levity to the story.
That said, my biggest frustration remains the MFC’s over-the-top obsession with Christmas. While loving the holiday is endearing, making it her entire personality felt excessive and, at times, downright annoying.
Overall, this was an enjoyable addition to the series, and I’m excited to see how it concludes. Here’s hoping the next book continues to bring fresh ideas and variety!
Brace for shenanigans and tomfoolery. A new twist on The Great Christmas Bake-Off means that Matt and Merrie are paired together for the contest with all kinds of “enemies to lovers” sparks zinging between them. I was a little concerned, at first, because Matt indulges in some extremely jerk-like behavior, but it’s quickly apparent that he’s lashing out to keep from dealing with his own issues and pain. Besides, I loved watching Merrie stand her ground like the Boss she’s working on becoming. While the supporting cast of characters is becoming more familiar with each new book, after all the Frosts share many of the same family members, friends, and frenemies (though not all in the same categories), there’s always something new to learn about them. It was all just so entertaining, and my sides still hurt from laughing that hard. And I’m totally picturing Beethoven and Frozen’s Sven as the leading four-legged characters. I kind of don’t have a clue what the author may have in store for us next, but I know I’m dying to read it, nonetheless. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
A fun read that I don't regret. I will say it was long (over 500 pages), would have benefitted from more editing (for typos, consistency and length), and could use a cover that actually matches the two main characters who are described many times. I'm on the fence if it's hard to believe or impressive that they don't go "all the way" until 400 pages in when most romance novels would have already ended by then.
This book was soo much fun. Lots of Christmas puns, hilarious misunderstandings and some sexy fun times. The frost family really bring all the drama and laughs. Loved Merrie and Matt
Another hilarious, fun, and entertaining story from Alina Jacobs! I l really enjoyed this holiday romance.
Merrie and Matt had great chemistry and banter while paired up together for the competition. She was strong and determined and is one of my favorite heroines Alina has written. At the beginning I wasn't sure about Matt, but I liked him more and more as the story progressed.
This book is both sweet and steamy with moments that will make you laugh out loud and want to do lots of holiday activities.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Uhm hmm… well I chose this book based of the title and vibes and while it was fun to read it did fall short in answering a ton of questions. Biggest thing was inconsistency. The mother’s name changed from the beginning of the book to the end…
The book was a little all over the place for me. It really doubled down on the Christmas theme too. What I didn’t like about it was how mean Matt was to Merrie at first. He said some really horrible things to her in the beginning that was NOT okay!! Her dad was a huge prick too.
Not good. Christmas, food and sex with caricature characters. I also think Merrie, the MC, has a couple mental illnesses, including an eating disorder. She is literally homeless, goes days without showering, lives off sugar and is too foolish to be a business owner. She was more sad than quirky or charming.
Merrie thought she was living her Hallmark dream—small-town life, a charming little ornament shop, and enough Christmas spirit to power an entire department store window display. The problem? Turns out, relentless holiday cheer does not, in fact, pay the rent. And her landlord, billionaire Matt Frost (yes, another one), isn’t exactly in the holiday spirit. Merrie has two options: pack up and admit defeat, or hustle her way to financial survival by taking on every holiday side gig possible—including, of course, competing in The Great Christmas Bake-Off. Because of course there’s another one. And of course Matt gets pulled into it too.
Matt is the most reluctant Frost brother yet, and that’s saying something. Christmas? He hates it. Small-town charm? Makes him itch. Women who talk to their reindeer as if they're going to get a response? Hard pass. But Merrie? She refuses to let him be a grumpy billionaire in peace. She pokes, she prods, she’s basically a living embodiment of an aggressively festive advent calendar, and Matt hates how much he... doesn’t actually hate it. Their dynamic is classic grump vs. sunshine, but instead of slow-burn tension, their chemistry builds like a holiday disaster waiting to happen. And when it finally does? Let’s just say frosting is involved.
Alina Jacobs cranks the chaos to max levels in this one—reindeer with questionable diets, bizarre small-town holiday traditions, and a subplot list that probably needed its own spreadsheet. At times, the sheer amount of holiday nonsense is a lot, but if you're here for the ridiculousness (and let’s be honest, if you’re this deep into the Frost Brothers series, you definitely are), then this book delivers. Merrie and Matt’s banter is top-tier, the small-town antics add plenty of charm, and the romance is both spicy and unhinged in the best way possible.
At the end of the day, Licking Her Christmas Cookies isn’t here to reinvent the Frost Brothers formula—it’s here to slap a Santa hat on it, throw in some light financial panic, and make sure things get sufficiently steamy. If this book were a holiday treat, it’d be Christmas fudge—rich, sweet, a little overwhelming if you have too much at once, but ultimately impossible to resist. A solid four stars for the perfect mix of festive mayhem and forced proximity-induced thirst.
I was looking for a fun Christmas romance and was extremely happy about picking this one up! It was a energetic, exciting and fun read. I didn’t think I would find another rom-com author to compare to my favorites Emma Hart and Teagan Hunter, but this one comes close. Alinia Jacobs did an excellent job creating this fun and quirky story.
Merrie is down on her luck. She put her life savings into opening a Christmas ornament shop. She moved from Manhattan to a small town and everything. Now all she needs is a Hallmark Hero in flannel to save her. But all she gets is a “Scrooge McDuck” trying to ruin her life.
Matt hates Christmas. He loves the cold and snow, but hates anything and everything that is Christmas. He wants his life to be as cold as the temperature outside. When he tries to evict the girl who opened a Christmas ornament shop, he gets more than he bargained for.
The characters in this book were amazing. Matt could literally come lick my Christmas cookies anytime. His character comes off as cold and hateful. In the beginning you really begin hating him. But as time goes on that cold exterior begins to melt and you fall in lust, oops I mean love with him.
Merrie is the most disastrous mess you could imagine. But all in all she is kind, sweet and the most caring person. She is fearless, yet vulnerable. She definitely has a heart of gold. But she suffers not being loved enough by those who should be there for her.
Overall this book starts out slow and steady, picking up steam as it goes. It is fun and energetic. Throughout this read you will laugh, cry and get angry. All justified emotions. The characters have great personalities and you can’t help but fall in love with them.
This book can be read as a stand-alone. I didn’t even know it was book four in a series. I wish I had known, because I imagine the other Frost brothers had crazy shenanigans leading to love. I’m especially curious about Morticia and Jonathan’s story.
An absolutely wonderful feel good story and especially a feel good story involving holiday’s and an over zealous believer and an extremely disbeliever and how they manage to deal with each other. Alina Jacobs is at the top of my favorite author list, any time I want a pick me up feel good story her stories are my go to! She never disappoints. All I need to see is her name as the author and you will hear the click - done deal - and I’m reading. So we are in Harrogate and Matt is Mr. Grinch himself and angry he has just broken his engagement and upcoming marriage with his fiancé due to her cheating. So Matt has decided to hate Christmas! Then he meets Merrie who is over the top into Christmas and from the minute they meet one reason or another they clash, but the more time they spend together since they somehow got paired up together for the town bake off contest they managed to developed some pretty hot chemistry even though they were throwing quips back and forth. Merrie is a very strong willed and determined woman that truly doesn’t care what others think she is going to do what she has to do to reach her goal. Matt is a billionaire sometimes kind of has aires about him, it was nice to watch things develop and progress along with two completely opposite personality’s. The story is just a wonderful story, sweet, steamy, lovely, caring, compassionate you will laugh out loud at times, you will hold your breath hoping that things can/will work out for a HEA. I strongly recommend. I received an Advance Reader's Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was an enemies to lovers holiday romantic comedy. The characters were complex and well developed. The story was a funny, steamy slow burn.
Merrie Ellis has invested her life savings to open Merry & Bright, a Christmas ornament shop in her hometown of Harrogate. She owes her landlord several months rent and has not made any money. After being threatened with eviction, she scrambles to get jobs to raise some money. She also enters the bakeoff competition as a local wildcard entry where she is partnered with Matt, who happens to be her landlord.
Matt Frost hates Christmas. He was supposed to get married at Christmas time but his ex fiance Hensley cheated on him with a local woodcutter. he and his partner Eli run a new technology vertical farm in the area and are trying to get more funding for expansion. His sister Belle is running the holiday bakeoff competition and tells him he is participating. His ex and the woodcuts also enter the competition. He decides to try to get knocked out of the competition as soon as possible.
Matt and Merrie start falling for each other the more time they spend together. He re-images her business plan to focus on her cookies and giving the ornaments away and she has a successful business. After finding out she has been living in her store he lets her stay in his condo with him. They end up falling in love and getting their HEA.

This has to be my favorite holiday book I’ve read so far. When I first started reading it and noticed it was over 600 pages I was a little intimidated tbh, but I flew through it. I didn’t want it to end, but I also needed to see what happened next. It was so good!!
First, I love me a good enemies to lovers trope, with a lil bit of sunshine/grumpy. The enemies part was soooo good, with the slow burn of them getting together, ahhh I loved it.
Second, the witty banter, the sarcasm, it was just too good!! It was also hilarious, with plenty of laugh out loud moments, I couldn’t get enough!
Third, I really liked the bake off aspect of it, and really just the whole over the top little holiday town. It was so exaggerated, but that made it even better for me.
Lastly, there were some cheesy parts, and there was a bit of repetition (such as Matt saying he’s a billionaire like 50 times, like bro we get it 🙄) that was slightly annoying. Other than that though, I really enjoyed all the characters, especially great aunt Bettina!!
In Conclusion, what a hilarious, fun time!!! With a hot blonde leading man, and a quirky red headed baker!! It’s also a bit spicy, which just adds to the reason it’s so good for me!
(I also read the accompanying short story about Matt and Merrie and it was super cute as well!)
When I wanted to start the book, I was a bit hesitant because of the number of chapters. Ive read some of this authors books before, and while I like her books, theyre often on the long side. But once you start reading, you don;t notice it anymore. it reads quickly and easily, and I wasn't bored. Initially I found the humor to have a high slapstick level, a lot of screaming, wailing, whining and scowling, but I can honestly say that at a certain point it didn;t bother me anymore and I just thought it was a nice book. Sweet too, cold Matt Frost who is slowly thawing because of his dealings with Merrie. In the beginning he encounters her against his will but later on he seeks her company. A lot happens, a baking contest, nice friends, annoying parents, an even more annoying ex, a large and noisy family, misunderstandings that can get in the way of their happiness and finally their HEA. An occasional glance at the (non) relationship between Belle and Greg (for those who know their story). The book is part of an extensive series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone. Humorous and accessible writing style means that you will read this book quickly.
