**UPDATE July 29, 2025
There still is no update to give. *SIGH. However, I did notice that on her website, she now has book 4 coming soon included in the series group. Hard to explain this, so here goes: 1st, book 4 was showing on her website. Then it disappeared, now it is included with the other 3 books in the series. Hope that helps. It gives me a little more hope. Still listed as TBA - maybe 2025.

BTW the earlier update posts had to be deleted because Goodreads said my "review" was too long. So I will be deleting a lot as I update this feed. BRING ON BOOK 4 so I can stop the updates. :-))

**UPDATE May 25, 2025

unfortunately, there is no good update, I just wanted to clarify something so no-one gets excited about some information others are posting:
"New release date 9/23/25"?
No, this book, The Fevered Winter, is still "Coming Soon" on her website and everywhere else.

The new release date above is for one of Jennifer L. Armentrout other series - the 6th book in FBAA (From Blood and Ash): The Primal of Blood and Bone. (FYI this is now not going to be the last book in that series either. There will be another book after this and "maybe" we'll get that in 2026/2027? BTW this book was supposed to be released 6/10/25 and was pushed to September 23, 2025 recently.)
Again, this release date is NOT for Origin series. Other than that news, I have no other news. Sorry. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.? (*LMAO - Sigh)

**UPDATE: April 14, 2025
Sorry been so long, there was nothing to report. But now.......

"COVER TO COME"

I just came across a new update and I am still researching it because I like to get as much info as possible. Until I get all the info, here is the news:

**Ringshadow is the webpage and it was updated on 4/9/2025. "The Fevered Winter" release date says "TBA/Estimate 2025". BUT, it also says: "COVER TO COME"
There is still no link connecting to a pre-order.

**I also found this:
"Origin consists of three primary books and includes one additional book that complements the series but is not considered mandatory reads — the series is set to expand with the upcoming release of one more book......."
HOWEVER, it is showing "5" books in the picture not 4. 1 prior to 1st book, "Like the First Time", the 3 books we've read already, and of course the final book, "The Fevered Winter". It says "Like the First Time" was released on 7/10/2020 The synopsis is: "Evie's life changed completely after her first meeting with the extraterrestrially handsome Luc at Foretoken club. But it wasn't just her…
In the short story Like The First Time, Jennifer L. Armentrout recounts that first meeting from Luc's point of view. He immediately recognizes Evie and their entire past together flashes before him. But she has no idea who he is."

Now all "Like the First Time" seems like a short story from the 1st book, but it's in Luc's POV. I don't care if it is a repeat, I would love to read Luc's POV. Either way, I cannot find this short story anywhere for sale. So, if anyone knows how to get ahold of "Like the First Time", please let us know.

Here is the website link where I found all of this info for you to check it out yourselves.
https://www.risingshadow.net/book/635...

Hopefully, this will help raise some spirits on this series. I will update again, whenever I know anything new/else.

Happy reading!!

**UPDATE: September 21, 2024
Nope on this book. 😔. But I wanted to give a little warning about this series & I'm going to assume on others as well .....
While I was trying to find anything on this book/series, I came across something that P. M. O.! 😤 Anyone out there who is looking for this book and has Not, I repeat, Has Not, read the 3rd book yet, (or any in this series), be VERY careful when looking for information thru Blogs, personal review site &/or any type of review. I popped into one of these places & this person literally listed ALL the book key points in All 3 books that you wouldn't learn about until after reading them! Now, don't get me wrong, if someone has 'Spoiler Alert' before the review, blurb, whatever, & you happen to read it anyways, that's on you. But there is NO 'SPOILER ALERT' on this review/info site. 😠. I Have read all 3 books so far, in the Origin series, but it still irks me senseless that some people can be so incredibly rude leaving the warning out. I've learned some actually do this because they want to be the "1" who looks as though they got the info 1st & be the 1st to tell others. But the only way to prove you read it all is to put key points out. Then there are others who just don't Think beyond themselves & others that just don't THINK. This Spoils it for others. A lot of people read this series (or any book), so they can experience it as it happens. And a lot of people won't end up reading that book that was spoiled because they now already know how it ends. That's a big disappointment for the reader & can hurt the authors sales. So, if you're going to write ANY type of review, either keep All key points out if it, or Mark it "SPOILER ALERT".
I Was going to include the link of where I found the spoiling info on this series, but decided not to. I don't want to actually endorse this person, now do I? 🙊.😜

I'll keep looking for updates. Please leave any links you find of new info.

*UPDATE: September 16, 2024
1st - sorry, I, personally, don't have any new info. However, someone commented "I just googled and it says release date November 5, 2024. Hopefully it sticks". I just did my usual research & have not seen anything new outside JLA's usual email saying its delayed. I've requested this person to please attach a link so we can check it out. I'm meantime, if I find any info, you know I'll post it. Regardless, fingers crossed I just missed it!
This brings me to a quick note: Please attach a link to Any information you post. Its always best to be able to back your statement with proof. It really is difficult to get ones Hope up after having it fall short so many times. Plus, leaving a link won't allow anyone claim otherwise about your statement. 👌👏

*UPDATE: August 29, 2024

Well, while the older books in other series are being revamped and newer books being released, we are there STILL is nothing new on this 4th book in this series. It still says "Coming Soon" on her webpage, Goodreads, but NO listing whatsoever on Amazon. As a matter of fact, on Amazon, it's still listed as a "3 book" series. Boy won't new readers be upset/disappointed if they dive into that series if they don't see the reviews of people wanting the "4th" book.

I've done a deep search and the only thing being said about this book is JLA's rt hand helper, (sorry, drew a blank on her title. I believe her name is "Melissa?), still has the comment at the end of JLA's newsletter. See below on the Dec 1, 23 update.

*UPDATE: June 3, 2024

Well, it's been a couple months now and NOTHING'S different! We're Still waiting. She's Still releasing the same "note" as from my Dec 2023 comment I posted below. Again, I DO understand her reasons. I actually know what it's like to have writer's block. Then if just pushing thru it to get something done, makes me wish I could go back in time & change many things. So, I truly understand.

*UPDATE: Dec 1, 2023

I just received a newsletter from JLA. Here's the update on this book.....

"While Jennifer has talked about this in several live events and as an announcement in her Reader group on Facebook, some have missed the latest update on The Fevered Winter. Ultimately, there is no current release date. There are many reasons for this, most notably Jen's overall health. This does not mean the book has been abandoned, especially for other book series. It is just a book that remains in progress because the entire plot that began building as far back as the Lux series has to be rewritten. That is not an easy task on its own, but considering the emotional difficulty that returning to that world entails, it just means it has to be taken at Jen's pace. What no one wants is for the series to cause Jen to lose her desire to write in that world or any world or to write a book that is rushed or not up to her standards. I am attaching what Jen posted in her Reader group several months back. - Malissa

"Nothing has changed with the last book in the Origin Series. This lingering book has absolutely nothing to do with any other book. I have about 13-ish chapters written, and no amount of brainstorming has gotten me to the point where I can undo three books worth of plot threads in a way that remotely makes sense. I know for some, that may be hard to understand, as does my reluctance to dive into something that involves a pandemic, but with losing a family member to COVID, any time I sit down to write it, it gets my head in a not-so-great place. I've been writing and doing this for far too long to try to force something, no matter how popular or not a book or series is. I did that once before, and it took me two-plus years to dig myself out of that. You end up risking legit, long-term writer's block and really, really bad head spaces." - JLA"

Whelp, there ya go gang! 😭. YES! I'm sobbing about this. I wanted to reread this series but No Way will I do that without final book. But, I also understand her reasons for not forcing it. Doesn't mean I Like it, but I understand it. IF there's any more to post on this, I will. (*LONG stuttering sigh)

"On July 5th, 2023 Jennifer announced nothing had changed regarding the book. She had about 13 chapters written and was feeling stuck in the writing process. Due to the fact she lost a family member to COVID anytime she sat down to write the book it got her head in a bad place. She said she didn't want to force it as she had done it in the past and it put her in a really bad headspace and also caused writer's block.[1]"

Where I found this info: https://lux-series.fandom.com/wiki/Th...
They found this info from this reference to JLA's link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/JLAan...

So, as you see, it's still going, but it is at a slow pace due to her own personal reasons. I can respect that. What is bothersome, is the silence on what is going on with it. But, I am very good with research and therefore, when my health allows me to, I will do as much research as possible until we finally get this Da** book! (*Smiling while has a fist in the air pumping up and down like leading a cheer)

If anyone hears anything of an update, let us know, and be nice and be safe!!

*UPDATE - April 12 2023
Once again after doing another time consuming research & then MORE research, here is what I found on the release, (ahem - possible release), of this Long awaited book.... (I found the following information from here: https://lux-series.fandom.com/wiki/Th... )

The article read;

"Initially the book was going to be published in 2021, but Jennifer announced it was delayed due to the current state of the world, and the fact that the series was building up to include a massive worldwide, deadly pandemic, a virus created by shadowy government figures, and the subject of vaccines. Although the book was planned years ago and was not inspired by recent events, the author didn't feel comfortable continuing with that plotline which caused her to have to change a lot of the material.[1] It will now be published sometime in 2023, toward the middle of the year or even the fall. [2]".
(Which was noted from these references... "References

So, that helps give some insight on WTH is going on & also gives us big time supporting fans, some Hope we'll Finally get an ending to a somewhat older series that we've been waiting on since Oct 2020. And although it's been insanely frustrating to watch her release so many other books from new series while waiting on this 4th book that was originally a 3 book series, I still can't imagine needing to get rid of so much story material you worked hard on & have to turn around & create different material for that. I mean the pressure of doing that plus making sure the new story content will not only make sense & blend easily with the other books from the series but also not come across as though it was rushed thru just to get the book out, had to have been hair pulling wanting to be elixir induced stress filled! But, I have no doubts MS JLA has done her best for her fans because she always has & she's always shown her fans how much they mean to her in one way or another.

With All that said - woo hoo we're getting closer to more Luc!
I'll update more if I see anything else pop up.

Evie & Luc❤️ I am so excited for this book.
I have missed this world and the characters so much! It's been so long 🥺 Lux is my favorite JLA series.
After the huge disappointment of the war of two queens, I still have hope that this book will be good 🙈

I keep my fingers crossed that Jen doesn't ruin this series too 🤞🏻😫

While I am glad this writer is publishing books back and forth but will we ever get to read last part of “origin story” until then I don’t think I want to ready anything of her. Who knows she will leave us the readers in limbo again

I can’t believe this book is coming out in 2023 like 2 years after. Why not finished the story on third book when the writer have to time to finish the ongoing book.

JLA UPDATE: JULY 6 2023
after a year of radio silence about the origin series, jla finally gave us an update. here it is:

“Nothing has changed with the last book in the Origin Series. This lingering book has absolutely nothing to do with any other book. I have about 13ish chapters written, and no amount of brainstorming has gotten me to the point where I can undo three books worth of plot threads in a way that remotely makes sense. I did that once before, and it took me two plus years to dig myself out of that. You end up risking legit, long term writer's block and really, really bad head spaces.
When I have a better idea of timing, you all will be the first to know.”

i’m heartbroken, and it’s driving me insane that there’s only 13 chapters written. oh, well, i’ve been waiting for this book since 2021 what’s a couple more years of wait, right?

(i’m sorry tor teen for all the hate. turns out you weren’t gatekeeping the book. you can’t gatekeep something that doesn’t exist) 🫡

I’ve been waiting since 2020, it’s been very frustrating and for the past years I understood. Poor woman has to basically change the whole plot of the books because of a global pandemic and that has to be so so stressful
But at this point, she’s released so many other books from other series. Even a completely new one I didn’t even know was in the works…and now I just feel like she moved on from the Origin series. I understand that she doesn’t have the headspace to write it, I get that she must be under a lot of pressure but dammit I hate that we’re being left behind. Evie and Luc are sincerely my favorite couple of all time, these books pulled my out of a dark hole and I wish I could reread them over and over but I can’t, because doing it just reminds me that the series is not done and I might just never get the closure we all deserve
So I’m gonna be damn pissed about it because I’ve been understanding and patient for too long. I just want my babies back

4 years, 9 months, and 14 days have passed since the third book of this series was published, and we still haven’t gotten the final book. At this point, i just want JLA to tell us that we won’t get a conclusion and let my hopes and expectations rest in peace. I’m tired of living with the uncertainty. It may seem exaggerated to some, but considering i’ve followed and loved Luc since 2013, had a fan account for Luc for several years, and my personality was entirely based on obsessing over him (literally 🤣✋), i’m being very calm about this.

I’m not going to force the author to write a book she doesn’t want to write. She has her reasons, and considering i lost my grandparents and a very close friend to Covid, i empathize with her feelings BUT i do believe that as a professional, it’s her duty to give answers to the readers who have spent money on her series. They can’t delete our posts, hide our comments, and get upset when we ask for answers. They’re sweeping everything under the rug and ignoring an entire group of readers in an IRRESPONSIBLE way.

At this point, JLA could have tried different solutions: co-writing the book, hiring a ghostwriter, asking readers for suggestions on how to continue the series, etc. I can think of many possibilities, but there’s one that’s the simplest of all, given that it’s been almost 5 years: Saying that you won’t write the final book. And, to not leave us hanging, at least tell us that Luc and Evie would have gotten an HEA, adopted children and pets, and lived happily ever after. Same for Daemon and Katy.

Out of respect and consideration for the readers who’ve been with you since you wrote the Lux world, this is the least you could do. But I guess it’s easier to focus on the success you get from those boring fantasy series you’re writing 👀

Original review deleted. 1 star for the author, 5 stars for LucEvie.

Luc King, fifty years could go by and i’ll still remember you as the best mmc in the world. You will always be the owner of my heart and the reason i took a break from reading, only to come back hoping to find someone even slightly like you. Too bad you ended up in JLA’s hands. And it’s such a shame that the author who used to be my favorite, who wrote some of my favorite characters like Seth, Roth, Trinity, and Daemon, turned her back on us like this.

i stopped hoping. abandon all hope ye who enter here. i truly believe that this book will never come out and honestly, i could live with that - if we weren't left with a goddamn cliffhanger at the end of book 3.

every few months, i see a new title by the author on the shelves at the bookstore, yet nothing, nada, zilch about the 4th origin book. it's just disappointing.

I mean seriously?! Is it so hard to finish this damned book? At this point just write it a crappy ending or idk... she is releasing so many other books, and staying away from this one because of what? Covid? Like girl it was ages ago, and your supernatural fantasy book isn't even aboot covid. So I really don't understand. I love JLA's books, but I think she doesn't know how to finish the plot she started so now she is just making excuses to appeal to her fans so they won't be mad... oh and writing different books that's heavy on adult scenes, couse they sell better, and it seems that nowadays spicy books are making some readers so crazy they doesn't even care about a good plot (khmm.. Blood and Ash series, especially the 4th book).

The Fevered Winter is the long-awaited fourth and final book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Origin series.

TFW-teaser-cover
Placeholder cover from Jennifer's website.

The book was originally planned for release in 2021, but the plot involved a global pandemic created by secret government figures, along with the development of vaccines. Because of how closely this matched real-world events, Jennifer decided to pause and rewrite the story. The project had been outlined years before, but the overlap with COVID-19 made her uncomfortable continuing at that time.

In 2022, she mentioned that the release might move to 2023. By mid-2023, Jennifer shared that she had written about 13 chapters but was struggling with the writing process. She explained that losing a family member to COVID made it emotionally difficult to keep working on the book. She also said that trying to force progress had led to writer’s block in the past.

As someone who read this series when the books first came out, the wait has been a long one. By September 13, 2025, Jennifer has published 11 other books since The Brightest Night, but there has still been no progress update on The Fevered Winter. At times it feels like the book may never come, though I hope I’m wrong. The Brightest Night ended on a huge cliffhanger, and it’s tough as a fan to be left hanging for so long.

Isn't there something like, I don't know, severe consequences for starting a series you're not going to finish? Like eternal banishment to a faraway galaxy? You can't do this to your readers. It's amoral, unethical, indecent, inhumane etc. Give back all your winnings, financial gains from your previous books in this series to your readers. Same thing goed for Martin.
