My name is Fynn Draven, and I used to be from this world.
I think I might have died, but I can’t remember. All I know is that I woke up on an altar as a drow male, and the beautiful dark-elf priestesses said they begged their Spider Goddess for help.
They ended up with me.
Drow males apparently don’t have a lot of standing or power in this matriarchal society, but the women who summoned me are in dire need. Their House has been raided, their family decimated, and they are out for revenge.
So, if I can help them get their vengeance, I could potentially be adopted by this House and increase my standing in this cutthroat world.
And this group of beautifully evil priestesses will also need help making children to replenish their numbers…
This author swindles a subscription service to have access to the map, that the US$. 15 plus (taxes, S&H) that each of his books sell for does not yet cover. It wouldn't be that bad, if the actual book was not double spaced. What is this author still in elementary or finishing school? So 400 pages that feel more like 200+ pages. It would take anyone that can write about three days to have a finished copy of a story like this one. All the website promotion, patreon promotion, and social media promotion of this author are the illustrations that he purchased from an undisclosed illustrator and have nothing to do with the author's writing, his stories, his imagination or creativity. So you can imagine the quality of his writing, if all he has to show for it are someone else's illustrations and graphic design. This author centers fantasy-isekai (resurrected in another world as a Dark Elf) on sex, sex that is neither interesting nor entertaining. The thing that stings, is that this author nor the main character are charming, chivalrous, incredibly handsome, powerful, wealthy, or have an inkling on what seduction is all about. Instead of mentioning all of the pop-culture references in another world that will never understand them, language problems that never exists thanks to all of the plot holes, and then authors like this one need to read and investigate how an actual seducer convinces a woman to have sensual liaisons with him. Robert Greene's the Art of Seduction book could be a crash course, if they really want to make a "career" out of creating harem-sex-filled stories with little else. Without a sense of humor, without any charm or charisma, without power, wealth or incredible abilities, everything written in this book is nonsensical and irrational, because no one ever, in any world would fall for the crap this author is dishing out. What is incredible is his persistence, but charging for a freakin' map is a sign, that things might not be working out in the harem-smut-lewd books series that this author has... It is irrational to think or believe that a human being "resurrected" into a Dark Elf, is going to know how to speak their language, know any of their customs, or have any real abilities or skills. The moment the main character leaves to the forest is his last. But then again it's just sex right? No seduction, no story, no plot arcs, no real common sense, not even a freakin' map. If one reads the fake reviews, one starts to understand why this author is so short on money. His stories are trash and he spends most of his money paying for fake reviews on fake profiles so that he can keep on swindling real readers, until they get totally sick of his shallow stories and book-geek lewdness.
It was pretty good. The set up allowed for pop culture quips, though I'm not sure how it will tie into something the author lets slip towards the end. It's not necessarily your "classic drow", but set up in a way that explains the differences. There was a fair bit of set up. But since the MC was new to everything it caused a fair bit of questions to clue the reader in. This...hurt the pacing slightly, but not to an egregious amount I felt. Smut was solid. Decent for an introduction, well be curious to see if/how it grows, as well as the story. End felt slightly rushed, but with everything packed into the book I can see why it was kept by the numbers as it were. Will check out the next book
Rating 1 star purely for shady practices on the authors part. They sell the book but don't include the map. In the intro the author explains how this is his most complex book yet, and it will be difficult to understand without the map. The book doesn't have the map. He says you can look at the map either on the authors Facebook page, or by paying a subscription fee to him on his Patreon to access the map. It wasn't on the author's Facebook page, and could only be found on an unofficial page where someone specifically asked for it, and in the comments someone replied with the map. Given how the map was not on any official channels, basically the author is expecting you pay a subscription to him if you want to understand the narrative of this book. Absolutely shameful practices, and a great way to immediately lose new readers. By the way, the map is very basic and you can easily do without it, if you can't find it. However, I doubt the narrative is any less basic. If I end up reading this book and it changes my mind about it, I will update this review and improve the score, but I somehow doubt that will happen.
The story was brilliant. Each character was complete and had depth, even complementary characters and antagonists who only appear ever so briefly where complete and flowed naturally.
The entire story was complex and had all the nuance and subterfuge that shows who the Drow truly are. Any debauchery and sensual indulgences are tastefully done and seemed to just flow as a natural part of the drow society and not just as a gratuity thrown in here or there to keep the reader engaged.
There were parts where the story sped along a little fast, that I wish had been fleshed out just a bit more, maybe a little bit more malicious nature among the protagonists here and there would be nice, but that's just my personal preference and did not detract from the story in the slightest.
Over all a very captivating story that created beautiful imagery, some intrigue and fun. I love story's of the Drow and this is breaking into new ground from a different perspective on the drow psychology, I'm looking forward to the story line unfolding in future books.
Jacobs, wow is all I can say here… he really went the extra mile with the political intrigue and mysteriousness of the draw underworld and society and their matriarchy. It was phenomenal how he set up the plot and the world building is just plain excellent and exciting. The action was nonstop, great comedy and the setup for quite a magnificent harem 😜. I’m hoping he bags the matrons but not after he’s calling them mom lol. That’s no bueno 😞🤦🏽♂️… so the daughters it is! The twins were quite a treat and I’m glad hel and dag grew on me. At first I wasn’t liking them but they grew on me fast. Tryss is a cutie. I liked her instantly because of her nurturing style yet jealous side…but she also had a wildness about her. Fynn himself is a brilliant MC and I love how Jacobs wrote him. He’s not some super chad, although he has the potential to destroy and conquer. I’m hoping he gets a wyld Fae like the matron mother. I was loving that fox nemrys. So many likeable characters. The next book awaits! Onward lads!!
Perhaps if I had read other books based on Drow world it might have been more intriguing. But after this I doubt I will read anymore. It had some fairly well written, yet gratuitous, sex. The main character is not likable and kills very nonchalantly. The fight scenes are barely exciting and the political maneuvering Machiavellian and yet I found myself hard to cheer on the main characters the author never clearly explained why asking for help was a bad idea nor explore the idea that someone was a traitor. The challenges presented by the mother made no sense with her limited resources The plot seemed contrived, slightly illogical and the best part of the book was the sex and you can get porn anywhere these days
Man, this book is absolutely brilliant and well written. It's nice seeing a book written from a cultural and racial perspective of a non-human race, in this case Drow.
Fynn's arrival and origins are well done with a bit of mystery and uniqueness, and the characters are all well written, as is the culture and heirarchy of the Drow people he finds himself among.
But I loved the story, all it's intrigue, magic and action packed fights. Really going to enjoy more of this series!
I was a bit skeptical about this book but gave a try anyways and I am happy that I did. I was expecting abit more BDSM type stuff where the drow matrons would be much nastier and the male character being treated like crap and was pleasantly surprised at how the ladies of the house our male MC is sent to are much more wholesome than I ever expected. Keeping in mind this is an underground drow society rules by females I expected much worse.
Quite enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to see how our male MC fares in the next books!
The story flowed really well and I like the way the characters are written and interact with each other each had a distinct and separate personality. I feel like I got a taste of what it would be like to be a Drow if there was such a thing as a Drow. The story and the world-building was just becoming more and more interesting leave me wanting more. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
I must say this the best book I have read in a while. I really Liked that this takes a different take on the hero. He is powerful and important, but not some all powerful dude. Heck he is not even the one in charge or the smartest one. I really like this book, and can not wait for the next one. Only complaint I have is when it ended I wish the next one was already out so I could read it.
I love it. The world building and character development are amazing as usual for a Logan Jacobs book. There is a review about this book that says the reader gave up on page three because it didn't meet their standards. This is utter rubbish, this book is awesome, intrigue, violence and plot twists like you wouldn't believe. I can not wait to see where this one goes and hopefully it ends up being a long series with its of volumes.
Flynn doesn't know where he came from prior to meeting the Goddess and then waking on an alter completely naked. He has foggy memories that make no sense, as he is a male Drow and males are slaves to the females, but he is a gift from their Goddess. He has skills and abilities, but he needs help to figure out how to use them and he gets to have some really good Sex, more and more...
Out of all of Jacob's books I have read I believe this is his best work yet and is definitely my favorite. His books have ranged from shallow to somewhat more detailed but this story has been artfully crafted and truly feels like a world brought to life through words.
I love Logan Jacobs, and have read most of his stuff. This one, by far, is, as he says himself, the most sophisticated work yet. I will likely purchase this series to have in my library forever, maybe the audiobook too to listen to over and over.
Jacobs upped is game, although in the wrong direction. Better sex scenes I will skip or skim over, more intricate characters I don't really care for and not much action when I'm in for some pulp adventure. The lizard bit was nice and exciting, the sisters pathos not so much. A bit of a letdown for me.
Any reader or D&D player knows drow culture to be matriarchal, so I expected from the cover art work that it would be a female protagonist. A good surprise and a credible take on the survival of a male drow, I expect that there will be no drider at the end of this story.
While it may not be the adventures of the Drow ranger and his friends and family, this character gives us something to follow and enjoy while seeing the world of the Drow in a new perspective
This might easily become one of my favorite stories ever! From start to finish it was incredible, the characters, the world, the intrigue, every moment was superb! I cannot wait for the next one!
A new and unique take on the drow under dark. Great balance of lore and action. Interesting and memorable characters. Could have used a stronger villain, as she just didn’t get much screen time. Great book.
An incredible beginning!!! First class world building, amazing characters and great adult fantasy activities!!! As with all of this author's work, you will not be disappointed!!!
This is a great awesome story and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this type of fantasy setting I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy books and I cannot wait for the 2nd book to come out....
This start to a new series is everything you could possibly ask for! Intriguing characters and a well fleshed our world with internal conflict and shitty politics! Love the spicy bits as well! Seriously can't wait till the next installment
Unsure past, check; new present, check. Finding yourself at the bottom of the pecking order, check! Now the fun of making a name for yourself, as well as working up the line. Good luck Fynn.
This one was really good. I have issues when the main character comes off too much like an Alpha jackass. But this MC seemed to walk a line of being useful and not too full of himself. I am very much looking forward to the next one.
The author did an excellent job Universe building for this series. Honestly, it felt like Mr Jacobs collaborated with R.A. Salvatore in the past to learn to craft such visionary scenes. Can't wait to read more in this series.
Please continue this series. It is by far my favorite of Logan Jacobs works. It is so in depth and pulled me in from the start. Looking forward to the continuation of this series!
