Emery is a climate activist and cinematographer filming in Antarctica. While there, she encounters Jack Frost, who saves her life. The last thing Emery wants is a charming stalker ice god screwing with her scientific view of the world; but she can't help being curious about Jack's ongoing war with the fire goddess Auxesia. Emery's association with Jack puts them both in more danger, even as they become emotionally and physically entangled.
This book is a steamy romance based on the mythical character of Jack Frost, with an HEA and a number of favorite romance tropes, as well as themes of climate preservation and a holiday atmosphere.

I liked this one okay, the main reason being that Jack Frost is an absolute cinnamon roll sweetheart, the “in spite of” reason being that Emory was a complete and total bitch to him for the first 65% of the book, right after which she flipped a switch to loving him. No. Just no. I am not here for that. But it did get better, after torturing me. Sigh. Emory is a researcher and photographer in Antarctica, studying penguins and by proxy, global warming. She falls into Jack Frost’s ice palace after getting lost during a storm, and he’s forced to give her powers that make her impervious to cold and ice. Oh, and he is immediately drawn to her and wants to be her friend and tag along with her and buy her coffee and cook her food and be a generally sweet and adoring puppy dog and she may as well have kicked him! It was awful, she was not appreciative in the slightest, and basically told him to fuck off before slamming the literal and metaphorical door in his face.
Woof. I was not impressed. But luckily, my sweet Jack hung around and took her abuse, because it was better than being as lonely as he had been for the past 200 years. Meanwhile, he’s fighting the fire dirty Auxesia, who is determined to burn the world so that it can start anew in her image. People have been destroying our planet for centuries, so this storyline actually really spoke to my environmental and conversation loving heart. What I loved: the overall theme of global warming and overcoming it. Sweet, earnest Jack Frost, and all of the mythology references and retelling aspects. Some beautiful imagery that was written out really well, along with some funny quips that I could relate to. What I did not love: Emory acting like a typical “hurt bitch” which could have really been done in a more relatable and empathy-seeking manner. The fact that she staunchly is against children, but gets them in the end. And the fact that there could have been more of a soul-deep connection between the two, other than the elemental. But all in all, fun read. Just hurt my heart and pissed me off a little.
This was. Unexpectedly so good. I’ve always been the type of person who wanted to read Jack Frost fanfic from the moment I watched Rise of the Guardians when I was young. This was so good. Sexy. We all need Jack Frost in our lives.
Jack Frost is one of those characters that I didn't know about (I mean like Santa Clause or Easter Bunny. in our culture, we have another mythical being who brings snow, who is not sass, mischievous or playful like Jack) until I watched Rise of the Guardians & it immediately captivated me, & Jack became one of my favourites instantly.
so, of course when I saw a book about Jack Frost on Bookstagram, it was only natural to want to read it immediately, especially since it's the snow season & all (perfect vibes! for me being a mood reader) even though it's labeled as Adult & mainly romance.
Jack was funny & sassy & amazing since the moment he entered the story & could lift the weight of the story on his own (the protagonist, on the other hand.... could not. partly I understand her, they were new acquaintances & she had some bad experiences in her relationships, so it's okay if she had boundaries of course... but can YOU stop being so harsh & rude & generally, a jerk, to a guy who tries to help you, just for a moment? be cautios all you want, but your bad experience doesn't justify your behaviour. she wasn't totally annoying, she said some funny things, but... ughhh!)
but I had some little conflicts about the book; 1) the girl repeatedly saying it's cliche, blah blah blah, & while my mind didn't even think about it here, her constant reminder kind of ruins the experience, especially adding up with her rejection, while her heart clearly disagrees (I'm a hopeless romantic & when anyone try to rationalize their feelings, it annoys me) (& she mostly had spicy thoughts! just get a grip of yourself, damnit!)
2) if their meetings were fewer & urgent & out of necessity, not just random (& again, just as the protagonist constantly says, like a stalker), it would've been better, for the sake of story. being epic & more fantasy. now it sometimes gave a contemporary romance vibes, instead of fantasy, & I know Romance is one of the main genres here, but... come on, the story, the plot. they are important.
& 3) the Plot was raw & not the epic & rich Fae world building that I expected. though it began promising
Is there any good Fantasy Jack Frost-related story, people? - Plot: ★★★/5 Characters: ★★★/5 Writing style: ★★★/5 World building: ★★★/5 General idea: ★★★★/5
This book comes off as super preachy about climate change. I appreciate when authors are trying to have a moral message in their books; however, I prefer more subtlety.
Also, the audiobook narrator is soooooo slooooooow.
Another delightful Kenney romance. Jack is sweet and endearing and definitely one of my favorite Immortal Warriors (although he's got nothing on Pan). Emery took a little more warming up, but I was happy with her role in the end. Overall, a fun holiday (or any day) adventure.
This book is surprisingly hot, considering the subject. (heheheh)
Jack is a charming, sweet delight. I'm obsessed with the description of his mouth. Only Rebecca F Kenney could describe a mouth as "wide" and make it sexy. But she did. And now I'm the weirdo with a fictional character mouth obsession.
The stakes in this book are so, SO high. The tension is so sweet. Love the world building, the sprinkling of history. It was so immersive- to the point I had to put on a jumper. And then take it off again because it soon got *so hot* (heheheh).
This was such a delightful story! Jack is the most adorable love interest ever, and I was rooting for him the entire time. The book has a conservation angle that I thought was really well done. I know some people thought it was a bit much, or kind of preachy, but I didn’t feel that way at all - it fit right in with the story.
I found myself relating to Emory pretty early on, especially with her
I really loved how the magic was written, too. Jack wasn’t portrayed as omnipotent; there were rules and a balance that had to be respected, which added some cool stakes to the story.
This book is an absolutely adorable seasonal read, with all the cozy winter and Christmas vibes you could wish for. It’s more romance-focused with mild spice, so don’t expect too much heat (hehe), but honestly, I think it worked perfectly for this story.
If you’re looking for a hallmark style romance but with Jack Frost, and don’t mind real world situations being used as plot devices in a cutesy and inaccurate way, read this book. I thought I was down for that. I was wrong.
This book and its concept had so much potential, but it was weighed down with grumpy/sunshine and constant whining on Emery’s part. She spends half the book so concerned about making a larger difference and how this non profit isn’t really for her in that regard, but she’s also extremely caught up in office politics more than striving to make a difference. The author portrays this as other characters, Alice and Newt, being problematic, and they absolutely are. But Emery only focuses on them. I don’t think we ever even learn what the non profit even does. I love the idea of making a difference, but I’m also very aware that small businesses and single people cannot hold a candle to large corporations that are the bigger problem when it comes to climate change.
Big surprise (not at all surprising and very predictable within the first few chapters): Emery then goes on to transform into an ice god to join Jack. She has ice wraiths sacrifice themselves for her and Jack to survive (like the wraiths will no longer exist in the world sacrifice), and thinks it’s cool she’s so powerful bc more than the required 12 died. Then sends an arctic blast all through North America with ice storms and major power outages, but don’t worry, no one died, because that was a serious concern of hers. It was just an oops of her super strong new powers. It specifically mentions Amarillo, TX going from 90° to below 0° in one day. I realize this is fiction, but a situation like that really did happen to Texas a couple of times in recent years. The author could have easily googled the death toll. Death in that type of natural disaster is unavoidable, but the author probably didn’t want to make Emery responsible for anything bad. That and the author continuing to refer to climate change as global warming made me realize the author may not truly be informed about climate change. Fun fact: those arctic blasts are just as big of a problem and just as much due to climate change as the wildfires.
I’ll admit, I skimmed a lot. The parts that caught my attention and stayed with me weren’t so great, and otherwise this book is forgettable hopefully. One thing that has stuck with me is the scene in the ice rink where the author is listing the classic Christmas songs coming across the stereo and doesn’t name a single artist except for Lindsey Sterling (her version of Carol of the Bells). I’ll be honest, that bit was enough to be a major turnoff for me for this author. If it had come earlier in the book, I would have DNF’d. That’s just a personal pet peeve of mine, and it didn’t affect my rating. The book just didn’t do it for me overall.
Wanna know what really killed it for me in the end, though? The epilogue. Emery spends the entire book stating and thinking several times that she does not ever want children. Before they have sex the first time, Jack assures her she can’t get pregnant. Then in the epilogue we discover she got pregnant without meaning to or even knowing about it, and she’s on her third pregnancy (without meaning to or knowing about it). I get it, people are more than allowed to change their minds as their situations changed. But the wording on how it was just so accidental and a surprise after being so adamantly against having children was weird and off putting. For a book with a character so vehemently against procreating turning into the character then having 3 kids, it’s not something I expect or even want. (And no, there are no CWs listed for this book.)
I really thought I was going to try to continue the series anyway, since it’s different characters, but after writing this review and really thinking about how this author portrays her fictional characters and worlds, I’m not interested at all anymore. It’s just not for me.

I adore how the settings are established! You can feel the burn of the cold and my eyes were stinging as I read. A great use of just enough description!
The two main leads are amazing. I’m never quite sure who my favorite of her emotional leads are but Jack is definitely in the running. He has sass to him but it’s never done with malice and seeing him begin to connect is great to withes.
This is a great short read if your in the mood for a wintery love story. The spice I would give a 🌶️.5 It's there but not a lot compared to her other books.
First half of the book the FMC HATES jack. Then she decides he’s ok and a few minutes/pages later she’s IN LOVE. I’m not about it. Besides that, the plot didn’t do much for me. I enjoyed the unique retelling of Jack Frost.
I feel bad for leaving a low review but I didn’t like this book at all. Very surface level characters. Emery is a whiney bitch honestly. The insta love was surface level. Just all around not a great read.
3⭐️ 1🌶️ what a cute ending! i loved the character development in this book. and as another reviewer said, jack really is the definition of a cinnamon roll 🥹
It was cute and had its fun moments. However i feel like some of the writing was overly described and repetitive. The world building was kind of slow, and at times the FMC got on my nerves. There was a lot of back and forth, which I kind of understand, but overall I fell like it was too much, and lacking so much. The book felt like poorly written fan fiction (IM SORRY 😭) and I just didn’t vibe with it.
Overall I liked the actually plot, it was just lacking in so much that I found myself bored, and hoping it would get better. It just didn’t. There were some beautiful one liners, but also some cringey moments for me.
If you’re a fan of “Rise of the Guardians” (movie) you might like this book. I wouldn’t say it’s terrible, but I also don’t know if I recommend it. 🥲
3.5 Apparently as the weather gets warmer I’m going to read all the winter themed books. This was a perfectly enjoyable read with a grumpy eco-warrior heroine who stumbled upon a sunshine of an ice god. The steamy bits were fine without being over the top, Jack was the best part by far. He was adorable…honestly I got lost puppy vibes, especially in the beginning.
« And he’s doing the rom-com freeze. Where the guy stares at the girl when he sees her in a fancy dress for the first time? Yeah. That’s exactly the way Jack is looking at me, and I have to admit—I love it. »

This was a very cute low-stakes urban fantasy romance.
We follow Emery and Jack and their little grumpy / sunshine-esque relationship. It’s a fast-paced overly adorable romance with a touch of magic in a Christmas-y setting. Would I call it a straight-up Christmas romance? No, but a winter holiday one for sure.
This is mainly character relationship focused, the fantastical plot is secondary. I didn’t mind it as I was just so enamored with Jack. Golden retriever boyfriend energy all the wayyyyy.
I enjoyed the ending, quite obvious, but sometimes you don’t need a big twist to make a story work. The expected ending was very cute and heartwarming (not very appropriate for our frozen lookalikes).
Still enjoy Rebecca’s writing style, it’s so easy to read and makes you feel like you’re part of the story.

« This is either a noble and dramatic way to die, or a very stupid one. »
“Yeah, Emery was really, really dumb. She ignored all the safety protocols and hung back to take more footage —wandered too far, got separated from the group. You know, it was natural selection, honestly. The idiots die and the smart ones survive.”
« The idiots die. I’m going to die. In Antarctica. In the middle of a freaking blizzard. »
« The pain means I’m here. Tired, but whole. »
« Nature did not craft the hooked fangs or sharply planed face of that creature. Nature didn’t etch the graceful fairy a few yards further, or the dragonesque being that seems to cling to the icy ceiling. »
« And there’s a throne, because of course there is, because I am dreaming, or dying, or dead. If I’m dead, or dreaming, I’m totally allowed to sit on the throne, right? »
« The person in the bed isn’t a fairytale ice queen. It’s worse, much worse. A man. »
« Okay, this guy’s not waking up. He’s in a sleep as deep as any fairytale slumber. The fleeting thought of fairytales wakes an idea in my brain. My breath had an effect on the door—I’m not sure why—but maybe it would have a similar effect on him. Kissing a stranger while they are sleeping wouldn’t be my first choice, but in cases of magical slumber, it’s totally justified. »
« “I can make you immune to the cold. It’ll just take a second.” A helpless, raw laugh breaks from me. “Okay. Yeah, that would be nice.” He grabs my hooded head in both of his long white hands and crushes his mouth to mine. »
« “True Sight is a side effect of the Chill.” »
« “Mon Dieu. Tu te tuerais pour les pingouins? Les pingouins? C’est des conneries, ça!” »
« “In my experience, a beautiful face on a man typically pairs with misogyny, overconfidence, and annoying cockiness. In the worst cases, the beauty masks a latent male-pattern dumbness that I just don’t have time to deal with. »
« “I know about global warming,” I interrupt. “How does that affect you?” He looks at me from under hooded lids. “Seriously? I’m Jack Frost. I think it’s fairly obvious how global warming would affect me.” “Jack Frost? The guy who flies around with a staff and leaves pretty snowflake designs on glass?” »
« “It’s nothing personal.” “Weird, because it felt really personal when you were breathing into my mouth while I was sleeping.” »
« I squint balefully at him over the mask, and he looks delighted. “You’re adorable, you know that?” »
« “Global warming’s a bitch, huh?” “Yes, she is,” Jack agrees fervently. Why do I get the feeling that he’s talking about a specific entity, not just a global effect? »
« You’re not involved in my life.” “Hey, I saved your life.” “What, so you’re my stalker now?” Jack recoils in mock offense. “Rude.” “Well, what else do you call someone who keeps showing up at random moments when they’re not invited?” “A friend?” “No. Friends text first.” “But I don’t have a phone.” “Sucks for you.” »
« “That’s why I drink coffee,” I snarl, shoving back my chair. “It’s my one indulgence.” “My one indulgence is art. And now, apparently, you.” »
« “Stop grinning like an idiot.” “Can’t help it,” he says. “You make me happy.” »
« “Maybe they should. Maybe if more people expressed honest emotion, especially positive emotion, the world would be a more pleasant place.” »
« “I could freeze his dick for you,” Jack wheezes. “He’d be peeing snowflakes for a week, if he managed not to break himself off.” His shoulders jerk with painful laughter. “Break himself off—get it?” “You’re foul.” “I really am. You love it.” »
« One more kiss. One more salacious sweep of his tongue through my mouth. One more moment in which I am pressed against every bit of his gorgeous, solid, perfectly naked body. »
« Though not until after I took care of certain physical cravings in my own way. Jack does not need to know how horny he made me. »
« but I’ve had no one but Karyl to talk to. Mysterious frost gods don’t count. »
« At least when I’m doing that, I don’t have to look at his stupid beautiful face. »
« “Oh my god. You’re jealous.” “The hell I am.” “You are. Even though you have no right to be, because you and I are barely acquaintances.” His voice turns low and husky. “You kiss all your acquaintances like that?” »
« “You’re more than gorgeous. You’re clever and honest, sharp and transparent as ice. You sparkle even when you don’t mean to.” »
« “It’s fine. I’m glad I could help you. Meeting you has been the highlight of my life as Jack Frost.” »
« I won’t be the cliche, the young human woman who falls for the immortal guy. I won’t. I refuse. »
« When I pick up my clothes, I risk a glance at him, and the raw want in his eyes rips the breath from my lungs. »
« I’ve seen lust before, too many times. This is lust, yes, but it’s also something more, a craving for all of me, a hunger for something deeper and broader and higher than I’m willing to give. »
« You’re spiraling into my bathroom now?” “I could have appeared right in the shower with you, but I did not, because I have standards.” “Whatever. You’re afraid of the hot water.” »
« “Damn it, Emery. Do you trust anyone?” “Maybe Karyl. That’s pretty much it. People will screw you over the minute it’s in their best interest. Even if you think they’re your friends, they’ll let you slide right out of their lives as soon as you become inconvenient.” His stare is half shock, half sorrow. “Is that what you think I would do?” “I know it is. You’re an immortal god-thing with a job to do—and if you don’t die first, you’ll get tired of fluttering around me.” His jaw flexes, hardening. “I guess I’ll just have to prove you wrong, then. »
« In the meantime, leave the dress problem to me. I’ll need your measurements, though.” “I don’t know them offhand.” “Good.” Eagerness sparkles in his eyes. “Then I’ll get to measure you.” »
« My heart cracks. In all the world I want nothing more than to ease his pain. Softly I place both hands on his shoulders, careful of the burns, and I lean in. »
« “Well. I should get back to work.” “Like that?” I wince at the bulge he’s sporting. “Are you offering to take care of it right now? Here? On the edge of a horrible forest fire where homes, lives, and workplaces are being threatened? I don’t know about you, but to me that seems wildly inappropriate.” “No—I just—” “Your concern is appreciated. I’ll be fine. For now.” At the last two words, his eyes flash with a raw desire that turns me hot. “You’re blushing, sweetheart,” »
« When did this happen? How did this happen? When did I fall in love with Jack Frost? Maybe love is a moment of realization. Maybe love is layers, paper-thin and sweet, accumulating like delicate honey-glazed sheets of baklava, until it’s luscious and cloying, aromatic and irresistible. Or maybe love is charred skin, and white bone, and torment. »
« The way I see it, you can’t help who you love, or how fast. The only thing you get to choose is whether or not to act on it.” »
« And he’s doing the rom-com freeze. Where the guy stares at the girl when he sees her in a fancy dress for the first time? Yeah. That’s exactly the way Jack is looking at me, and I have to admit—I love it. »
« “I imagined you in that dress.” Jack’s voice sounds raw, probably from smoke inhalation, but his face looks as flawless as ever. “But my imagination was obviously lacking, because you—you’re so—you’re sublime.” “Sublime?” I giggle. “Beautiful isn’t a strong enough word.” »
« Can you turn around? I want to see how your ass looks in this dr—” His words cut off as I smack him in the face with a pillow. »
« “Emery, darling, would you kiss me again? I forgot my lipstick and I thought maybe I could borrow some of yours—” “Hush.” I sweep past him, out into the hall. “Good goddess, look at that view,” he crows. “I think I’ll walk behind you all night.” “Do I need to hit you again?” “Please. It’s very exciting. Or if you have a knife handy, you could hold it to my throat. I hear that’s considered romantic in some circles.” I stare over my shoulder at him. “What the hell circles do you hang out in?” “The fun ones?” »
« “But I won’t lie, I do miss being touched, or touching someone who won’t fear me or give me away. Not that anyone would believe them if they tried to tell my secret—but they’d probably end up institutionalized and I’d feel guilty for ruining their lives. It’s a whole thing.” »
« “Want me to freeze Minnick’s dick for you?” I choke on a laugh. “What is it with you wanting to freeze people’s privates?” He shrugs. “It’s fun?” “Have you ever actually done that to a guy?” “No.” “Just as I thought. You talk a big game, but you’re too nice inside.” »
« Love gleams in every line of that sculpture. This is how Jack sees me—not as a purveyor of magical healing, or a sexualized object. In this piece of art I am strong. Adventurous. Visionary. It’s as if he reached down into my soul and extracted the best part of me, and then placed it on a pedestal for all to see. He loves me. »
« “I may be cold-blooded, but I’m not made of ice. It won’t melt, if that’s what you’re worried about.” »
« “You can’t fix people,” he replies softly. “You can only love them. And sometimes, when they won’t accept help, you have to let them be.” »
« Jack extends those icicle claws again and tears away my panties. Damn it. I’m going to have to buy more if he keeps this up. »
« “So you want me to take the bow off my present,” he murmurs in my ear. “Ew, no. I will not be objectified.” He unhooks the strap, fingers grazing my spine. “How about worshipped?” A thrill races between my legs, through my stomach and into my heart. My breath hitches. “Well... if I must…” »
« “Jack,” I say quietly. “Is there anywhere else you need to be?” He draws in a long, deep breath and gathers me closer. “No.” And I let the subject drop. Let him be selfish for just one night. It is Christmas, after all. »
« “I’m not speaking to you like an equal, honey. I’m your damn superior.” »
« “Did I rescue you, or did you rescue me?” He beams at me. “I guess we rescued ourselves and each other.” “And I think that’s called a healthy relationship,” I say softly. “But I wouldn’t know—I’ve never had one. Until now.” »

💝Jack Frost de Rebecca F. Kenney Serie The Immortal Warriors libro 2
Argumento:
I picked this up after reading her Nutcracker series featuring sisters who paired up with the male Sugarplum Fairy and Nutcracker prince. I thought this book would be in the same vein. I was very mistaken. Jack Frost was written way before Nutcracker and it seems she hadn't hit her stride yet. A lot of elements of this book did not agree with me. The narrator of this audiobook was my first ick. Her narration of the female was fine, despite her horrid personality. When she imitated Jack Frost, she gave him a laughable impression with a lower octave meant to mimic a male's voice. It was really distracting and horrible. I had to listen to her impression for 8 hours until I ended up fast forwarding the last 2 hours. It was terrible and an utter waste of my time.
Embry(?) was a sour apple and a whiny heroine. All she cared about was her job in Antarctica and was a total shrew to Jack. He gave her clothes, food, and even multiple winnowing trips to the Arctic with nary a thank you. She complained nonstop and it was hard to root for them as a couple. How can you expect me to support this relationship if someone is kicking and screaming every step of the way? I bring this up a lot because there's a difference between reluctance and digging in your heels for several chapters.
Jack Frost was a major disappointment and I won't be continuing with this series. Dani California narrates every single book in the Immortal Warriors collection. I haven't given up hope completely. I absolutely loved Clara and Fin in the Nutcracker book. That narrator was phenomenal and I definitely want to see what they've been up to in the sequel. Oh well, Jack Frost never intrigued me as a girl as much as Barbie Nutcracker did!
Jack Frost is alone and asleep in Antarctica, and will awaken only to fight a war he seemingly could never win.Emerie is a photographer determined to take photos of hatching penguins and stumbles upon a sleeping Jack, waking him and sparking love and obsession from the god.
Dnf at 50%. I was just so freaking bored. Slow burn romance but there also isn’t really much of a plot. Super disappointed because other Rebecca Kennedy books have blown my mind and I love Jack Frost. Bummed 🙁
