I was supposed to be on vacation on Earth, resting after I helped Pan defeat Hook and free the realms. I didn't expect to meet Cassandra, a woman with a soul full of the most beautiful music I'd ever heard.Nor did I expect my encounter with her to consume my mind.
But my father Zeus is determined to exert his power over me, to reinforce his dominance and ensure that I'm no threat to him. Because of his suspicion and envy, visiting Cassandra on Earth is more complicated and dangerous than I anticipated.
She's so full of sadness and beauty. I crave her like I've craved no one else in this lifetime. But her pain makes her wary, so I have to move slowly, and sing softly.
I've never met anyone like her. And I'm not sure I can resist her.
It's best if you read the two Peter Pan books and Hades before you read this one, otherwise there will be spoilers! (TW: Depression, death of an infant (in the past), suicide ideation, alcoholism, depression, brief mention of a mass shooting and a murder/suicide)

Ummmm. If someone would have told me that I would read a version of Apollo that I would not only ADORE, but that I would love more than Hades, I wouldn’t have believed you. But It. Just. Happened. RFK saved the best for last with this one! Cassandra has been depressed and unmotivated when her sister Megara invites her to a theme park. She finds herself sitting next to a blonde beauty of a man on a roller coaster, his first ever, and they have so much fun that they ride it again together, and again and again. Apollo feels such a connection to Cassandra, but he’s called away by his wretched father Zeus, and so he leaves, hoping he can find a way back to her. Cassandra is sure he’s blown her off, and goes back to her regularly scheduled programming. Which means drinking, hiding, and trying to ignore her nightmares that have a bad habit of becoming true.
The Sun God appears again and they end up connecting, and after a devastating fire, Cassandra moves in with him. They discover that she is the key to undoing the curse that a Fae put in him long ago, which means that they are true mates. Which is lovely and wonderful, only there is something truly horrifying on the horizon, and they’re destined to fight it together. We see Demeter and Hecate again, as well as Peter and Wendy, Hades and Persephone, and this time we get Hera and Zeus…in all of his evil glory. I love a story depicting Zeus as the bad guy and not the golden warrior that all of the movies show him to be. Apollo was good and just, as well as powerful without having altering motives, so it was nice to see him come into himself after eons of bad behavior. Cassandra is so real and relatable and I loved their story so much!!!
I've loved every book in Kenney's "Immortal Warriors" series, and this was no exception. Apollo is such a sweetheart, and Cassandra is the kind of heroine you want desperately to see things work out for. Her struggle with depression was beautifully done, and it's obvious in every page that this was something close to the author's heart. Highly recommend checking this one out!
Ever since we were introduced to Apollo back in the Neverland Fae duology, I've been secretly dying for this book and was even a little disappointed when we got Hades and Persie's first. I might be a little obsessed with our golden himbo though. And this book just proves why.
I don't know how or why people aren't more obsessed with the immortal warriors series or Rebecca Kenney, herself. It baffles me, honestly and this might be one of my favorites of hers to date.
I’m still loving this series, and from book three onward, each one has been better than the last! I absolutely adored Apollo and Cassandra’s story, but what stood out even more was how Cassandra’s struggles with her mental health were handled. Her depression wasn’t magically "fixed" by love, and Apollo accepted that, showing patience, understanding, and support through the end. It made their relationship feel even more real and meaningful.
Another amazing retelling by Rebecca! I can't even decide which books of hers are my favorite. Zeus throughout the entirety of the last couple books has been really pissing me off. To see him finally brought down a few notches, gave me immense satisfaction! Cassandra made Apollo stronger and I loved that for both of them. I love that the author didn't shy away from the trauma and depression discussions. And I love how Apollo approached that with Cassandra. “When we ride this time, find the music in how you feel. The song already exists. You just have to uncover it." She doesn't need to be perfect. She just needs to be loved. And that is the most beautiful thing I can think of.
He helped her understand herself and that she can't do everything herself. "I’m not my own sun, Cassandra. I can’t cheer my heart with my own light." For so long, she thought she was alone or needed to be alone, but slowly, she learned that being around those who love and care for you, can be just as healing and soothing as any medication. "Beings like us—human, Olympian, Fae—the one trait we share is that we aren’t meant to be alone. We need companionship." I'm so looking forward to the next book. Hopefully the author continues the series. There is so much that can be done. More mysteries more conflicts I see brewing on the horizon.
Light read despite the heavy topic. Really happy about the last chapter!
Overall though the main theme was handled too light and neat. Depression is neither. Sure, having the god of sun as a boyfriend helps probably better than any regular boyfriend, but she really was in a dark place and it takes a huge amount of effort to get out of there, effort and time. The latter wasn't there, for understandable reasons, but nevertheless. That is one reason why it was too neat for me.
Apollo is the absolutely loveable, adorable and perfect partner! What he said, the small things he did and yes even the moment when he snaps and yells at her, absolutely perfect! (Actually he was too perfect, close on the edge of annoying)
The things he said to help her though alone are good reasons to read this little gem, just to remind oneself that life (and oneself) is never ideal or does not have to be ideal. And even though when everything appears to be perfect, it is still ok to be sad. Life is not simple and neat.
And with that, I've officially completed my first full backlog series of Kenney's! What a journey, and a good one it was!
Apollo was much more enjoyable than the last entry, Hades. Thank fuck. Sorry, Rebecca. I love you, I do. You can step on my neck, that's the level of 'I love your books' I'm at lol But you can't win 'em all and unfortunately for me, Hades was a loss.
This, however? Wiiiiiiin. And a great note to end the series on, imo. Even though I would honestly take Kenney continuing all of her series in infinitum.
The book provided me more evidence that Kenney is just the perf author for me in that she made it very clear that we share very similar flavors of depression lmao. In the foreword Kenney makes it clear that her source of inspiration for Cassandra's pain was her own. Now, thanks to my bff medication, none of Cassandra's emotional duress resonates with me anymore. But I know it and I know it well. For that reason, Cassandra was an incredibly compelling and relatable character to me in a lot of ways.
Apollo is a fantastic, quippy himbo hero. We love him. We ignore how deep down we dislike the whole 'he's lived thousands of years and she's in her 20's' thing. We find and claim our little joys where we can, ya dig? :)
I was surprised the book managed to wrap up so quickly without feeling too lacking from it. This is the kind of content that, were Kenney to the popularity of someone like SJM, would easily be made into an entire series of its own. Alas, I remain grateful that she is talented enough to be able to condense such epic concepts into singular stories. We should only be so lucky that one day she's able to flesh these worlds of her out more intricately.
This was the sweetest story in the series. It never dragged and was entertaining the whole way through. However, I did not feel happy when I finished this and need to watch some Disney to lift my mood.
Apollo comes on strong but is one of the sweetest characters ever. His character has depth and his growth by the end is satisfying.
Cassandra is a real drag. Her depression is relatable in the beginning, but it turns into pity parties and fishing for confirmation. There are only moments of growth before it goes back to gloomy. The characters go through a lot and defeat all the challenges thrown their way. Cassandra darkens every single one of them. It wouldn’t be so bad if she showed signs of healing, but she did this up to the very last page of the book.
There is truly something about Greek mythology retellings or even just retellings that are loosely based on the myths. I really enjoyed reading about Apollo and Cassandra and remembering, "Oh my God I remember learning about Cassandra!!"
(For anyone who doesn't know, in the original mythology, Apollo saw Cassandra and was immediately smitten with her, giving her the gift of prophecy, however, when Cassandra refused to sleep with him, Apollo tried to take the gift of sight away from her but couldn't. So instead, any prophecy she made, no one would believe her.)
I really enjoyed reading this and honestly thought it was so cute. Cassandra's powers, which I won't mention since I feel like it's a spoiler was so cute and perfect for her. Absolutely loved Apollo and Cassandra's relationship!
There were so many things I related to with Cassandra but her hatred of winter was one of the one I related to most. I adored the mental health rep in this most and having a partner that fully accepted you and supports you through it. That understands each part of it and will know they cannot fix you of it, but still be there for you.
The reinforcement that you are not alone if you are struggling and there is help as well as resources.
Outside of this the romance, spice, and banter with life mates was everything. The world building mixed with mythology was really amazing and I hope to learn from Kenney. Outside of the Peter story line this one was my favorite and I hope there is more to the series.
Not the best in the series. But a strong book to end on. I had already developed my crush on Apollo in book #3. I can’t say what made me give it 4 ⭐️.. maybe Cassandra’s defeatist attitude? I know it was a huge part of her character. Or the weird first 🌶️ scene which was all Cassandra’s weird ass making me uncomfortable. (Again part of her character.) I loved Apollos god-splaning everything. It was what I lived for in this book and his good-guy nature. Not to mention he’s the hottest man alive apparently.. it touches up on Greek/Mythology and it’s a remake so you expect changes to the old myths. Series ended well. Sad it was the last one. I put off reading this one hoping I could prolong the ending but it’s an easy read and easy to finish. Over all it’s a great series.
I really loved finally seeing Apollo's love story. He's been in all the books in the series thus far and I'd been itching for this one. And I wasn't disappointed!! I really loved the focus on mental health in this book and how Apollo's kindness helped not 'fix' Cassandra but understand and empathize with her as she struggles with her depression. There were times I wished the plot of this book wasn't so entwined with hades/persephones book, it's pretty clear you can't read this one unless you've read the other one first, but I can't wait to see what comes next in the series!! Oz? Wonderland? Where are we headed next??
This one was so good! More like a 4,5 ⭐️ read, but I don’t have that option. Apollo was (ironically) a real sunshine and super cute. Cassandra was depressed, but really relatable and so human. Loved that. And the playlist! So good! The only part where I have something bad to say is that the plot was kind of buried under smut. It was just a little too much of it, a teeny tiny bit for me. Sure, at some times it was funny, but unrealistic and I don’t think it would’ve happened then. I’m just saying wounded Cassandra… Nevertheless I liked this book very much!
It felt like the plot in this story was really weak or overlooked. Kenney does do a good job detailing depression and how it's an ongoing process to be healed.
I found myself skimming the spice just to find the action and move along in the book. To me, the highlight was the tension in the Olympian realm, but that doesn't come into play until nearly 80% into the book.
Both Apollo and Cassandra were fine as main characters, but it felt like a story that didn't need to happen.
I liked this one a little more than the books before. The idea of him being cursed and her being the one for him who can break the curse is quite nice, and I found FMC as a character interesting in the beginning.
But I didn't like their insta-lusty first time, and their fighting afterwards, nor the whole fighting of the gods. I only skimmed the latter. I liked the confrontation with her ex, but it became unrealistic and a little uncomfortable near the end.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This one was hard for me to even begin to try and review, or to give a star rating. There was a lot more that hit close to home in this one than any of the others in this series. But having said that, it just didn't settle right with me. It didn't feel authentic, and some of it felt over dramatized, which stopped it from feeling believable and stopped me from connecting with Cass as much as I would have liked.
I think this is my fav book from the series! Cassandra is super relatable and I loved the story between her and Apollo. The message of promoting taking care of your mental health and how that looks different for everyone and that just because you may be or feel “different” doesn’t mean anything’s wrong with you and that stood out the greatest in this book! That speech Apollo gave her about her mental health melted my heart and made me swoon!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!! Apollo offers a gentler, more introspective romance. Apollo’s celestial glow meets Cassandra’s haunted soul in a tale about healing through connection. The mythological threads are modernized well, and the writing shows a lot of heart. It’s slower paced and more emotional than steamy, with lots of quiet longing and existential grief. The mental health representation is strong, though heavy, so trigger warnings should be noted.
This is 100% the best book in the series. I’m so devastated that there won’t be another follow up book. I NEED to know what happens when Zeus and Poseidon wake up! One of the best parts of this book is how it intertwines so beautifully with Hades. There were a few missing storylines in Hades that were revealed in Apollo and vice versa. Pls RFK im begging you to write another.
An absolutely fantastic book. I fell in love with her literary universe thanks to her Peter Pan duology and this one is probably the best story so far. Do yourself a favor and read this one. You will NOT regret it
This was a super fun quick read! I love the world this is built into and what a perfect ending to it all. Characters were well developed and the spice was a perfect amount so that there was still an awesome story.
4.5⭐️ Another great addition to the series! I did feel like it was wrapping up around halfway through and then it picked up and then it happened again before finally wrapping up for real which was a bit annoying which is why it isnt a 5⭐️
Listen, i can enjoy a crossover fanfic gone wild just as much as the next doll, and that has been this entire series, and it has all been very enjoyable. But my review loses stars because I draw the line at Apollo being straight.
I really loved both Apollo and Cassandra so their story was very enjoyable. Apollo especially was so endearing in his appearances throughout the series so I was so happy for him to find his soulmate.
