Soulmates.
Unashamed of our multiple book boyfriends. Especially the ones that rooted in our heads and wouldn’t leave us alone. Don’t worry. We’ll share.
Shattered Secrets is a book I was ecstatic to read. I’ve read all of Grahame Claire’s books and I’ve been so curious about Kane. This book kept me on my toes throughout the story. I loved JoJo and Kane, their meeting, and the banter they have. And OMG that ending! Queen of cliffhangers here! Thankfully the conclusion will be out soon. I honestly was shocked by the ending- I didn’t see that coming at all. Even though this ended up having a troupe I usually hate in it, I ended up really enjoying this one and can’t wait to read the next one! If you’re looking for an addictive read, pick this up!
This book was a wild ride and I honestly didn't know where it was heading. I loved that mystery of not getting all the answers at once and having to read on to find out more. It kept me captivated and I devoured this book in one sitting. I should have known better than to start a Grahame Claire book late at night but I'm not sorry I lost sleep over it. Now I'm just dying to get my hands on the conclusion and I need to see how Kane is going to handle everything!
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
I'm gonna take a page out of Kane's book and be bluntly honest: nothing happened in this book.
I'd read the prologue, Shattered Destiny (review here) a little over a week ago, and really liked that portion of this story, so I guess it was a good idea to add it to this book also. But I'm finding hard to review this book because what can be said when there was virtually no plot development?
I'm basing my rating pretty much only on the facts that it was well written and that Jojo and Kane continued to have fantastic chemistry, plus a little left over goodwill from the prologue part.
But as for the events of the new part, I don't have much of anything to say. The book kept teasingly dangling these questions in front of the reader, but refused to provide any answers. That's not to say it wasn't easily predictable where the story was going, because if you have a basic understanding of romance tropes, you'd have had no issues foreseeing the outcome of all that secrecy. And so, it was natural and expected that all the surprise was kinda taken out of the cliffhanger for me, because I'd already seen that reveal coming.
I would have much rather have had the complete story in a 450-page book instead of it being delivered in various 150/200-page installments. More considering how dragged out this book in particular felt given the practically null plot progression.
In all reality, though, I'll probably still read the next book. As I've said, the writing was good. The relationship between the main characters was wrought with sexual tension (which is never a bad thing), and now, after getting to this point, I feel like I've invested too much time into this story not to get at least some answers and clarity.
**I received an e-copy of this book from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own**
Even though I was kind of expecting that ending, I'm still deeply affected. I love cliffhangers and this book was spot on, it left so many unanswered questions.
This whole book left me on edge. I went from page to page as if peeking around the corner, afraid of what might come, but curious about what was out there.
Kane's left me intrigued about him since his very first appearance. I still can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about him that speaks to me on a deep level. He's confident to the point of arrogance, but he's entitled to it, because he really is the best. He's quick on acting for his clients, and that might seem he's driven by money, but it's so much more than that. Something drives him, motivates him, more than money, even more than power, and that is clear whenever he leaves aside whatever he's working on to rescue someone he cares about. He's loyal and brutally honest, he's fair and quick to help. He's cocky for sure, but he's also vulnerable. His tiredness is evident to us, even if he tries so hard to portray a strong and unaffected image. I think that dichotomy and hidden vulnerability are what touched me about him.
Jojo is a force of her own. Instead of conforming to what's expected of her, she just went for what she wanted and what she believed in (much like Kane). She's selfless and idealist, she yearns for a better place and she actually works to make things better for people around them. More than a dreamer, she's a doer.
Despite their differences, Kane and Jojo had more in common than they first expected. And maybe because of that - or because they weren't ready to admit it - there was this intense, almost palpable chemistry between them. Their interactions were snarky and full of tension, but not always of the bad kind. They've met their match with each other and it was engaging watching them fight their attraction and curiosity about the other. Even with everything pulling them apart, they respected each other and their feelings, unbeknownst to them, pushed them together. But there were so many things between them, including (and mainly) their own family. And I have absolutely no idea how they're going to fight that.
5 MORE SECRET STARS!! I need more....like right now. This story pulled me in from the first page. Kane and JoJo are telling us a phenomenal story and I am addicted. This author has sucked me in. This is a must read.
I was so excited for this book after getting a glimpse of Kane and JoJo in Shattered Destiny and omg it did not disappoint! Once again Grahame Claire have given us a wonderful and you can’t put it down story. This well written enthralling book had me hooked and oh my I absolutely adored Kane. After getting many glimpses of him in previous books I wasn’t sure if I would like him but oh yes I love him! JoJo is a great adversary to him and I loved their chemistry. His banter with her had me chuckling. This book will have you craving the next book to get all the answers. I wish I could give them more than five stars and I am now counting down the days until the next book is released. I received this book as an arc but you seriously need to read this book, it’s that good!
20 Years. TWENTY. FVCKING. YEARS. I hate wasted time out of all the tropes out there and to top it all off with miscommunication—I badly want to drop this, but I like the character of Zane so book three we go.
I don’t feel like this one should have been within this series because it leaves off as a cliffhanger … these books so far have been one and done . It was just meh to me with a lot of questions left unanswered ….
22 years ago, Jojo met an annoying guy who she figured would just end up being her sister's newest flavor. Little did Jojo know, Kane was much more than that, and would have a far reaching impact on not just her sister, but on herself too. Now she's back to beg the man she can't stand (or so she tries to convince herself) for help. She needs the best lawyer and Kane holds that title. The question is, will the cocky jerk help her? Or will the fact that he's divorcing her obnoxious sister make Jojo a bad bet in his eyes?
Being that this is a Grahame Claire story, I knew there'd be a cliffhanger, and boy was there one! It's a doozy, so be forewarned. But really all it did was make me even more anxious for the next installment of this excellent story. Kane and Jojo had serious chemistry even when she was trying to persuade herself she couldn't stand him, and it was obvious the man was more than a little attracted to her. Now I guess I just have to sit here, very impatiently, and wait for my Kindle to tell me the next installment is here. I hope that happens soon!
ARC provided by Social Butterfly PR for an honest review.
I read this book as part of a multi-author series. I had high hopes, then it went downhill fast, but I'm no quitter so I persisted, hoping it would get better. It didn't. This book had a good premise, but it was incredibly, overly, drawn out. JoJo, the most annoyingly naive do-gooder raised in NYC ever, meets Kane, a cynical up and coming lawyer, on a weekend at the Hamptons with her family, and they hate each other. Twenty years later, she shows up at his law firm needing a lawyer. I don't mind a good mystery, but it took FOURTEEN (yes I counted) chapters to get to the point as to why she needed a lawyer. Then the story drags on even further, with mundane events, ending in a cliffhanger. In my opinion, had the author gotten to the point sooner the story could have been more developed, and the cliffhanger might have been unnecessary (I might not have minded the cliffhanger if the storyline had some depth). In the end I felt like I read all those chapters and got nothing.
We met Kane in a few other books by the author. He is the best defense attorney anyone could call. Here in his story we learn so much more about him. His story is full of secrets and even a few surprises. I can’t wait for the next book to see what will happen next.
I'm sorry, but this book not only didn't grab me, it totally annoyed me. The childish hot, cold, hot, cold went on way too long. But I persevered, only to find it was a cliffhanger! Grr.
Two lives go different paths in life then finally meet up again after 20 + years with secrets.
Terrific book! Fell in love with Kane when I read the prologue,Shattered Destiny, of Shattered Secrets. Wow, what a wonderful character. Finally we get to know Kane, the high powered well sought after attorney. He was introduced to us in the previous series as the attorney that used his skill to get everyone out of the legal problems that came up. But we never got to really know Kane then. Now we get to fall in love with his character.Kane and JoJo have an interesting first meeting. She goes to the family's Hampton home and runs into a rude man in the laundry room that has removed his pants. She is livid. She thinks he's some kind of worker who shouldn't be there. He doesn't introduce himself but finds the woman in a dress too big for her rather interesting. He gives her a nickname that he believes suits her "Barn". She hates it but it ends up sticking to her. JoJo has a spoiled brat for a sister, Alma, though she loves her. Her mother is no better. A mean witch and with a "b". Thank goodness for JoJo that she has the tremendous love from her father and grandparents. So much happens during the holiday weekend but ends in a shocker and changes the lives of Kane and JoJo. JoJo has a love of doing things to save the planet. It's her love. Puts her in not so safe countries but it's her calling. Ten years later, she has a 21 year old daughter that also believes in what her Mom does and Penelope is now an attorney with a good head on her shoulders. When she visits Kane after all those years it to help her daughter. Though a serious matter, when Kane and JoJo are in the same bubble things get hilarious. There is animosity, nervousness, secrets being kept and an old hidden attraction between them. Kane has his own personal matters to deal with, he's divorcing his wife of many years. He never had a good relationship with Alma. She has her own agenda. Things get interesting now that Kane and JoJo are working out an arrangement for him to represent her daughter. Spellbinding. Grahame Claire has done it again. Brought us this book with a story of a character that we only had a nibble of. Now we get to know Kane. This book is so well written to catch the readers attention and make this book into a page turner. He leaves us with a cliffhanger and oh what a cliffhanger it is. Now we are counting the seconds until part two. I can't wait! Thank you Grahame for the wonderful books you bring us. (applause, applause, applause)
I received an ARC of this book and also purchased it and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Holy shitake - this ends on a literal what in the ever-loving moment! I saw this as a possibility but it seemed impossible to pull off I have so many questions No answers!
Then - the prologue I'm not sure what little sis' end game is but master manipulator is an understatement However, Kane and the Barn have me all kinds of curious Kane comes across as cocky but there is more under the layers Barn IMO is hiding from reality This is a short introduction to the characters and their quirks I'm on to book 1 because - HELLO what is she thinking
Now This picks up a little over two decades after sweet sissy announced her wedding to Kane I questioned her motives in the prequel but I was way off Why? I get her mom but ...
Relished the love-hate relationship between Kane and Jojo. This episode is mostly seeing where they are today, What is happening in their lives A bit of how they got there And a whole lot of them testing the waters between them Playing within the lines of what's respectable Yet still refusing to acknowledge the sexual tension they both feel
Kane is still like a child with a lolly, enjoying seeing how far he can push her And Jojo is still the rigid little rule follower - pushing back
I was a bit amazed by how much I enjoyed this romance - because it was a romance Despite no carnal relations during this battle of wills these two kept me engaged and flipping the pages I am a touch nervous about how the next episode is going to go I don't want her to pay with her heart, to lose everything for doing what she thought was right And I know that is a true possibility
This is part of a trilogy It ends on a what in the heck is happening moment
And they’ve done it again! Grahame Claire’s excellence in writing is exhibited by their incredible ability to make me feel every emotion their characters feel. The development of their character’s personalities is outstanding and JoJo & Kane are no exception. I always feel like I’ve known these people my whole life. I want to crawl inside the book and share their wants, dreams & insecurities with them. And then I have a book hangover when I’m finished reading because I don’t want to say goodbye to them. Kane Zegas has been an enigma from the moment he jumped off the page several books ago and I’ve been hoping these authors would further develop his character and give us his story and they answered in spades. Zegas is definitely a force to be reckoned with but I think he met another force to be reckoned with in JoJo. What starts out as a relaxing Labor Day weekend in the Hamptons ends up being something so much more for these two in ways that I could have never imagined. Like mind-blowing! Shattered Secrets has a different feel than the other books, I think mainly because of the dynamic among the Cunningham family. This family is quite different from the families in the Paths to Love Series, the Free Series and the Shaken Series – not in a bad way, just in a different way. It just goes to show how diverse these authors have become in their writing style. They never fail to leave me breathless and speechless. And now they have become the queens of cliffhangers too! Brilliant, incredible writing as usual and if you’ve never read a Grahame Claire book, do so now, you will never want to miss another one again! Not enough stars for this duo of authors!
I loved Jojo and Kane’s story from the moment they met. I hadn’t read the prequel but the author helpfully includes it as a prologue and I was hooked from the first page. Kane rubs Jojo the wrong way from the moment they meet but she tells herself that he’s just her sister’s flavor of the moment and they never last. They have a moment of sorts but his arrogance and smart mouth are annoying. This is one long holiday weekend at the beach house and once it’s over, she never has to see him again.
Skip ahead 22 years and we find out that Kane is now divorcing Jojo’s sister. With her hectic schedule and frequent travel, she’s been able to avoid him for more than 2 decades. But now she needs a lawyer and he’s the best, so it’s time for Jojo to swallow her pride and go to him. The banter between these two couldn’t be better and the tension between them is incredible. This is a teasing slow-burn that ends in a cliffhanger. And even though I was expecting it, I still have to say holy mother of cliffhangers.
The ending didn’t shock me because I had my suspicions but it also didn’t answer any of my questions and even raised some new ones. I can’t wait for the conclusion to their story.
There is a lot to unpack between Kane and JoJo in Shattered Secrets. This story starts out over a Labor Day weekend when these two are just going at each other constantly. Their bickering, their banter, their hate... it's electric. But then Kane literally saves JoJo's life, and there is a whole new level of sizzle between them.
But then Kane married her sister, Alma, and they barely see each other for decades. More than 20 years later, JoJo tracks Kane down because she needs his legal help. Their snarky banter picks up where they left off all those years ago, but there's an undercurrent of sexual attraction. And with Kane on the brink of divorcing Alma, what's to stop them from acting on it? Well, the secret that JoJo's been keeping from Kane and her sister will threaten to destroy several lives.
How did Kane end up being trapped in a marriage to Alma? What the heck led to that shocking cliffhanger? While I did suspect that *that* ending was where the story was going, I have so many questions about the how!
Much of Shattered Secrets is expos -- there's a lot of backstory and talk of history, but no major movement in the relationship between Kane and JoJo. Hopefully that will be unpacked in the conclusion to this duet. Even though nothing happened between them, I found myself invested in this couple and rooting for them.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
My first read from this writing duo and I was intrigued!
I’m not sure what I was expecting to be honest….I did enjoy this story but it also frustrated and saddened me a little….the characters are really interesting but I found their personal life choices somewhat frustrating and almost unbelievable…. Kane is a remarkable man with very strong morals and standards….and yet he allowed himself to live the life he did! JoJo laments on her grandparents love and how much she valued them and yet never made an effort….
Two strong willed professionals who have so much and yet feel the need to almost blame others for their own missed opportunities! However, it does bring to mind the fact that time flies and sometimes we don’t realise the sacrifices or choices we have made until something or someone comes back into our lives and forces us to properly look at them. Before you know it, it’s too late…! It also makes me feel a bit sad to be honest…for them and also for their missed chances.
The cliffhanger wasn’t a surprise to me but I’m interested to hear the details behind it and also hoping it may explain an awful lot….. I have a feeling I am going to be team Kane all the way🤔
Kane and Jojo met 22 years earlier when Kane went to the Hampton's house with Jojo's sister. The two didn't start off on the best footing, but he did end up saving her that weekend. Now Jojo needs his skill to help her daughter and now has to push away her reservations and ask for his help. Kane is a workaholic who is just trying to finalize his divorce to Jojo's sister when Jojo comes back. Kane can't help to make things difficult and rile up Jojo. Will the two be able to work together or will the chemistry that's always been humming below the surface sneak up on them?
This was a good book that has a lot of build up only to end on a cliff hanger. As I was reading I knew what the secret was going to be, however, I am curious as to how everyone is going to react. Shattered Destiny shows the relationship that Jojo and Kane have and their personalities. It is a lot of building up and getting to know the characters and how they interact with each other. I am excited to read the next book as soon as it comes out to see how everything turns out and what Jojo has up her sleeve to help Kane. There are a lot of unanswered questions to be answered in the next book!
This book has me hooked and I cannot wait for the next one to come out.
Jojo is a free spirit and nothing like her socialite mom and sister. Her mother doesn't approve, her father and grandparents just give her what she needs to make it through each month. Sticking to the status quo isn't how Jojo operates. She wants to save the planet, protect the forests and now she's on to saving whales.
Kane, is gruff and very blunt. He doesn't give a fuck about how you feel and will plow you over, then charm you with his smile. He's also in the process of divorcing Jojo's sister, Alma. There is something about Jojo that makes him want to keep pushing her buttons.
I liked the electricity between Kane and Jojo. Even though Jojo doesn't like violence, Kane has brought something out of her. She's resorted to slapping him, without it phasing her and he, of course liked it because someone actually stood up to him. There was mystery in the book that kept me hooked and reading the book in one night. Shattered Secrets ends on a cliffhanger and has me on pins and needles waiting for the next book to come out. Will Kane and Jojo be able to work together? Not sure I can wait to find out!
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret that no other reviewer seems to have revealed. This book is part of a duet. Or maybe you could call it a trilogy, since Shattered Destiny was the prequel to Shattered Secrets. You didn’t need to read that one first, because it’s actually included in this version. But this book ends in a cliffhanger, which will be resolved in the next book. Do not let what I just said scare you. The reason is because the story was really good. The characters are flawed, which makes the story more interesting, in my opinion. They both have their good and bad qualities. Lane is very cold in a lot of the book, at least on the surface. JoJo can be a little self-righteous, plus she’s either very naive (or maybe just loyal to the wrong person). But she’s got her issues underneath as well. Their are bickering is my favorite part of the book. It’s well written, sometimes a little harsh, but always honest. While one secret has been revealed, I have a feeling that there’s going to be a much bigger one coming in the next book. For that reason alone, I cannot wait! And I think will get a little more insight into both Kane and JoJo, and why they are the way they are.
This book is part of a duet or maybe you could call it a trilogy, since Shattered Destiny was the prequel to Shattered Secrets and this book ends in a cliffhanger This book begins 22 years prior, when Kane and Jojo first meet, during a week get together at her family’s Hamptons house. Kane is now a very successful lawyer living in New York City. Kane Zegas is mysterious, arrogant, stoic, sarcastic, egotistical. That is his business persona. He knows he is the best lawyer, has the track record to prove it, and gets paid very well . Underneath all that bravado, is a man that is vulnerable, feels rejected, and used. Jojo is a free spirit and nothing like her socialite mom and sister. She's is the black sheep of her socialite family, never understood by her mother but her spirit was nurtured by her loving grandparents. She's travelled the world, helped the neediness number of people. The banter between Kane and Jojo was honestly the best part. I look forward to the sequel, because the second part promises to be complicated between Jojo, her daughter, her sister and Kane who wants to divorce from this latter.
Jojo is a World Warrior, a free spirit , has travelled the world for various causes. They originally met at a weekend in the Hamptons while Kane was dating her sister. 20 years later she Returns to New York. She desperately needs his legal help. I love the fun teasing, banter between Kane and Jojo. They are hot/cold/ electric. They both remember their encounter 20 years ago. Secrets, betrayal, and a mindblowing cliffy that I didn't see coming makes this story very interesting. I have been waiting for Kane Zegas story ever since he was introduced in the Paths to.Love series and subsequent stories throughout Grahame Claire's books . I can't wait to read Shattered Sins ! l received an ARC and offered my honest review.
Grahame Claire writes the most amazing cliffhangers because as you're reading the book it feels like your running right towards the cliff and you don't want to stop. I wasn't sure this book would have a cliffhanger until I was about 75% in and I knew right then that this book was shock me beyond belief because the build-up to the reveal of the secrets was spectacular.
I'm obsessed with Kane and JoJo's story. I finished this book and immediately went to look when the next book will be coming out and how much I didn't want to wait months for it.
For this book, Kane and JoJo's story is all about their individual secrets and the things they never said to each other for 20 years all the while Kane is married to JoJo's sister. I loved their banter and the pull between the two characters in so much of their life even without actually being in each other's life.
If you aren't a cliffhanger person, I'd say this is the one to give it a try because reading this book while watching the amount left go down was one of the most exhilarating feelings I've felt while reading a book.
Finally, we have Kane's story. Well part one of it for now. It feels like I've been waiting forever for his story and the authors certainly gave it to us in spades.
I feel that I've gotten a deep, personal look into who Kane is. Not the surface person, but deep beneath where all his secrets are hidden. Seems he isn't the only one with secrets. Jojo has kept a wide berth from her family in order to keep as much distance between herself and her brother in law. Now she's back in New York and whether she wants to see him or not is a moot point; she has to see him and need his expertise as a lawyer.
These two will discover things about each other that is completely unexpected and some may draw them together while others will have the ability yo wreck them.
The big twist at the end I had already figured out but oh my God it was no less impactful than if I hadn't any idea what was about to happen. And then THAT WAS IT!!! Cliffhanger hangover is what I was left with.
