Love, Family, Grief, Friendship, Community, and Faith.
Kathy's idyllic world shattered when a drunk driver killed the love of her life, leaving her alone, financially struggling, and taking care of two teenage daughters, one with a selfish streak the size of the Puget Sound. With nowhere to turn and with even less time to grieve, Kathy finds herself relying on her grumpy next-door neighbor and her mother-in-law for help. At the same time, she returns to work full-time as an ICU nurse.
But grief won't be denied, and when a horrific mistake nearly costs her a patient and her job, she realizes she needs to deal with her loss. Immediately. Her parent's cabin on Bitter Mountain is the perfect place to escape, but only if Kathy is willing to deal with the ghosts of her past.
When she finds a postcard written by her deceased mother, will it start the healing that Kathy needs? Or will Bitter Mountain just be another thing she sells to fund the life she's not ready to let go of?
This is a short story but, it packs a wonderful storyline in a small package! A mother of two is thrown for a loop when her husband is killed in an accident. She tries to move forward with her job so that she can provide for her children (one of which is a terror to deal with). Eventually, something happens at work that shows her that she has not moved past the shock and grief of losing her husband. She goes to her parents' cabin on a mountain. When she reads a note left there by her late mother, she finds that there are a lot more things that she needs to deal with and work out for herself. I enjoyed this book and recommend it!
This story is short but sweet. I really enjoyed this story and I really feel for Kathy. While not long this story really pulls at your emotions and drags you into their world while it lasts. I highly enjoyed every moment of this book and would highly recommend it.
Received this as a read in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Goodreads. Don't let the number of five stars by prior readers fool you. If I had not agreed to read this novel, I would have stopped on the first few pages. Trust me I read a lot and I know a good book from just plain filler. I felt if the entire story was slapped in my face in the opening pages. I got tired of errors that any proof reader should have seen and the story was just plan all over the place. No plotting just the same "we are so broke" back and forth, and of course a nasty daughter, the good neighbor and money coming from just about every place. Then the religion kicks in. Sorry to the author, but this was just not for me.
One tragic night, Kathy's entire world changed as she knew it. Her husband was tragically killed by a drunk driver as he headed home to be with family after a cancelled business trip. All of a sudden, Kathy and her 2 daughters have to navigate their new normal. They find solace in some of the unlikely places, like in her estranged neighbor and her late parents cabin hidden away on Bitter Mountain.
This was a Goodreads win from ages ago. I'm determined to clean out my TBR, which includes my kindle right now. Since I'm back to traveling, it's easy to grab the kindle and clear that out. This was a short and sweet novella but it wasn't my cup of tea. I did enjoy seeing the relationships develop along the plot lines.
This book has wonderful characters. A mom learning to move on after the death of her husband. Real life struggles and the rollercoaster of emotions that you must face. A story of family and friendships.
Thought it was interest and intriguing. I really enjoyed reading the book. Would love to read this book in print format I recommend the book Hopefully I'll get to read the book in print sometime in the future.
What a book. You will laugh, cry, and cry some more. This is a story about moving on and growing after a terrible loss. It's also about developing a relationship with God in a time of need.
