Embrace the Suck by Kristen Painter
Book 5 of the First Fangs Club series. Conclusion. Paranormal women’s fiction. Best read in series order.
Belladonna is the Queen of vampires for the U.S. but the Council gave her a death sentence at the end of book 4. This book starts immediately after their pronouncement.
Donna has lots of friends and lots of enemies. First up are the prior queen’s children demanding the estate and the crown as their rightful heritage.

Dangerous creatures against close friends and made family. I’d like to say it’s no contest, but ….
Fast moving action and twists and new problems for Donna and crew.
Don’t take your eyes off the Queen or you may miss your turn at the game.
Eliminating the daemons, the villains and the bad guys will take strategy.

Evidently, I am in the minority in thinking this series started out as a 5 star and ended with a 3 star whimper. Overall it was good but the later books are not as good as the first ones.

I will start this by saying I love this series and after reading the first one immediately began pre-ordering the following four books. The first book was just so funny and good and I tend to really enjoy Kristen Painter's novels. They are usually good and light palette cleansers for me. The following books, while good, were not, in my opinion, as good as the first book and that trend has continued with this last installment. Evidently, I am in the minority in thinking this.

While I did enjoy this book and it did accomplish what it set out to do, I kept getting pulled out of the story by how beyond overdramatic and nonsensical this plot line was. Now I knew coming into this that I would need to suspend my disbelief quite a bit. But there were so many moments in this that made me roll my eyes. Everything was overly melodramatic to the point where I almost actively being annoyed. Especially towards the middle to end of the book. There were moments when I wondered over the intelligence of the entire cast. For example when Pierce went into the Hell Mouth, it was glaringly obvious that he was attempting to get her soul back. But literally everyone was running around saying he'd succumbed to the allure of the Hell Mouth.

Overall, this was good but not my favorite of the series or of Kristen Painter's other novels. I liked how everything wrapped up and it was nice to see Donna's coronation.

For the first time ever when reading something from Kristen Painter, I found myself shuffling pages, because I was bored. The action was stretched sooo thin to fill a whole book. This could have been cut down to a short story, or cut down to 3 chapters as part of a book.

I liked the ending, but I did not enjoy this book.

Painful level of exposition and minutia last two books. From step by step preparations of meals to full room by room descriptions of rvs and houses and sleeping arrangements and reasons behind them that readers would not give an f about. Get to the point and any semblance of a plot puhleassee.

I really enjoyed this series. I binged it on Kindle Unlimited this week & fell in love with the characters so much, that I purchased the books after reading all five. Belladonna & her team of friends were amazing to read about. I am happy with the ending in this 5th book, but sad that it is the end of the series. I recommend it to all Kristen Painter readers & anyone who enjoys good, fun paranormal cozies.

OH MAN!!! What a crazy ride! I absolutely love this series!! I wish it would never end, but all good things must.. sadly. Donna and her gang is back and they are just trying to stay alive. Donna is tired of the jumping when the Vampire Council says jump. This story keeps you guessing with every twist and turn, and you will not believe where it goes! Kristen writes the best series and I will always read what she puts out! Thank you so much for the ride and I can't wait for the next series!

Very put downable

I have written individual reviews for the first three books, but this review is for the entire series. Overall, I’d give the series a rating of three. The writing is fair and the characters are likable, a bit shallowly developed and cliched. There is nothing offensive in this book (e.g. no sex), but there’s not a lot that’s very interesting or exciting either. I’d recommend it to young readers, mostly girls, in the 13-17 range.

I finally figured out why this series was so “put downable.” It’s because it’s basically a series for young adult readers. There is a strong Cinderella vibe only slightly tempered by sparse paranormal action. There are pages and pages of “what should Donna wear” coupled with “what’s everybody eating.” I don’t know about you, but for my taste, a little of that goes a long, long way. I wish the author had spent more time trying to dredge up chemistry between Donna and Pierce. I did not believe their relationship. I also balked at how easily Donna’s various challenges were met and overcome.

One last thing, the author couldn’t seem to get a grip on the difference between “Your Majesty” and “Your Highness.” While this is a small thing, I found it to be a bush league writing error that should have been corrected before publication.

Worth the wait!

Well, this was a long awaited book but, was definitely worth the wait. Donna, with the help of her allies, friends and family figures a way out to get her punishment of death to go in her favor. She and some of the other Queens and Kings decide to leave the Council and form their own. Donna has no idea what these new changes will bring or cost her. Sometimes, when the cost seems too steep you just have to let things play out to find out what that cost truly is.....
I loved this book as much as I have the rest of the series. My only complaint being, that the books aren't published quicker!! I hope this is not the end of this series, I can't wait to read more about Donna, her family and her life! Long live the Queen!!

This will contain some spoilers for this book and spoiler for Jayne Frost book. Do not read this review if you have not finished both series and spoilers deter you from reading them.

It didn’t really have an TWs except some mentions of violence and loss. Nothing sexual other than some kisses which weren’t steamy. More YA leaning except with a middle aged FMC.

Ok here come spoilers…….

I feel let down by this last book. For a couple reasons.

One, I felt almost no chemistry coming from Donna for Pierce. I knew he was devoted to her but it was more of a love for what she was in the beginning and then as time went on a respect of her goodness mixed with the fact that she is a vampire. It didn’t seem like she was really interested until the end of book 4. Even then it was all talk and no show or lead up. It felt abrupt and a little odd. True, Pierce was devoted to her. However, she had some fizzles with Rico and the with Kace also. The Rico attraction was brought up so much in the first couple books, and the fact that he returned it, that it made the “relationship” with Pierce seem like an aside. The fact that this all took place in a very short amount of time didn’t help matters. This was very similar to the Jayne Frost series where the final love interest popped up out of nowhere, subverting the love interests that had been around for the entire series, and it was pretty close to instalove. With that in mind, the amount of mourning and grief she was in throughout the book did not connect with me emotionally and I was often not understanding how she was in so much pain. I’m sure some will disagree however it just fell flat for me.

Playing on that, it felt like an odd cop out to slide to Kace all of a sudden being glued to Bunni’s side once she was hurt. As if, all of a sudden, he has feelings for her. Yet he had really hardly known any of them. I know it wasn’t confirmed but that seemed to be the direction it was headed.

The fight scenes also weren’t a favorite of mine. Donna was constantly being led, step by step, on how to win the day. She did have some shining moments but, it didn’t seem to be as on character as the previous books.

What I did like was the family aspect of the book. We finally get to truly meet her daughter and get a glimpse into her life. Donna was nervous at some points but led with confidence and handled the situations surrounded her daughter with strength and grace. I also enjoyed the way she handled the issues with the council and coming up with a plan to thwart their unjust and biased ruling. This is where her character really shined. The secondary characters in this book are also great. I enjoyed Queen Francesca very much and Marcus was great. I would have loved some more Neo but the bits we saw of her were perfect as well.

Overall the series was ok. I don’t regret reading it even though this last one was difficult to get through even though I enjoyed the others. I actually many of this authors other books. However, this won’t be a series I revisit.

This Review is of the Entire Series, not Just this Book

This book only gets 3 stars because I made it through the whole series even though I was ready to DNF after the first book.

Donna was Batman.

No matter what problem/adversity arose there was always some individual that would appear right on time to help her girl boss her way through it.

So many events transpired that should have been exciting and/or entertaining at least, that never panned out. No chemistry between any of the couples. New villains every other chapter that never stood a chance against that girl boss plot armor.

I found Donna to be insufferable. All of her staff/friends/family weren’t actual characters, just tools on her utility belt. Unnecessary and useless people would randomly pop up for no other reason than to pad the word count. This was definitely not my type of hype.

First Fangs Club #5
Embrace the Suck (First Fangs Club #5) by Kristen Painter Embrace the Suck By Kristen Painter, is the 5th and seemingly final book of this highly entertaining series. This one does not and in a cliffhanger. This is significant because each of the other four books did. This is also what leads me to believe that this is possibly the final book in the series. Enjoy!

Wow! This blew me away! For those of you who haven’t read any of the series, not sure I’d start here. I could be wrong. There’s so much story with the characters that you would be missing. Anyway, last book we were left with a cliffhanger. This book takes right up where the last left off without delay. But surviving a death sentence is the least of Belladonna’s problems. Trust me! There were so many surprises. And I always thought I knew where it was going but no, it was like a roller coaster and something or someone would would pop up and change the whole thing! I loved it and now I have a major book hangover.

I hate endings

The end of Belladonna's series was fantastic. With enemies and challenges, there were so many ways this could have gone. I love that the way the title is included in the story, especially the first time.
The characters are so well written, their emotions are so relatable. I can picture every single scene in my head as if I'm watching a movie. I loved every word... until the end. Saying goodbye to a well-written, engaging, thoughtful series is HARD! Kristen is a fantastic storyteller and I'm excited to see what she comes up with next. In the meantime, I will make sure I've read everything on her backlist.

Great Ending to a fun Series

Embrace the Suck was my favorite in this book set and so unexpected. This story had it all, drama, action, fun, humor, pathos, grief, angst, snark, everything!

Belladonna Barrone is a unique heroine and really experiences highs and lows through the series with a supportive cast of friends that grow along with her - can’t help rooting for this group of underdogs to overthrow the vicious villains who think they will be the winners (but don’t, and get kicked to the curb after a sound thumping, so satisfying!!!).

A terrific book to finish out a wonderful series and an absolutely worthwhile read

my favorite

This book has so much action you never know what is going to happen. Donna hasn’t been Queen long before company becomes enemies. The long shots become friends. There is more to the dark then we thought. With her crew plus new friends. Donna has to learn to fight like a queen and fast. I loved everything about this book. It was fast and easy to read. Had all my feelings front and center. Your going to want a full day to read. This book isn’t one you want to put down.

Fantastic paranormal women’s series now completed

A different approach to vampires and the supernatural races. Choosing good over evil, fairness over greed, friends over opportunities, need over desires… Once again Ms Painter delivers a story with lots of twists & turns with challenges for Donna and crew to solve and survive. Tense moments alternate with more light hearted fun. This series kept me involved and turning pages until it ended. Start with the first book and read in order. Be warned that it’s hard to close the book and get some sleep!

Such a creative series! Donna Barrone is now going to be the new North American vampire Queen.
However, her enemies are worse than before. The ex-governor of New York is awaiting trial for his crimes.
The Council has decided she is going to die for no reason.
She has decided that just accepting an arbitrary fate is not her style.
She has a whole new set of problems and a whole new set of enemies.
But having been married to a major mobster in the past has taught her a few things about dealing with criminals!
Fun series!

Loved the series

So, I binge read the entire series over forty eight hours. That's how good it is. Loved the characters, loved the plot and story arc. Just a really, really good read. Donna's evolution from Mafia wife to Vampire Queen of North America was thrilling. The way she grew into her role, the acceptance of her strengths and abilities was beautifully portrayed. The other characters, Pierce, Charlie, Francine etc are just as well fleshed out. The storyline is great. Boy was I glad I had all of them to read one after another. This series is a real treat.

Read the first on a whim, it was so fun that I read all five. Cute series. What started out as a mobster story turned into a vampire story and the characters were likable. Donna Barone is a mobster wife who goes from being a browbeat housewife to queen of the vampire’s over a five book series. It’s quite a trip to get there but she makes it with the help of her friends. Lots of action between warring creatures and back stabbing coworkers as well as some romance for good measure. Enjoyable series.

Great development of characters and details of places.
It was easy to get into the story because I felt like I was watching a movie. The book came alive in my imagination, every room in detail and all the people's interactions with each other. I especially liked the bond between Belladonna and her sister who I saw as a formidable woman not to be messed with. Cammie is my GI Jane. Donna took to role of Queen and ruler with the help of her friends and castle staff. Everyone had a role to play and they did it well.
This was the first and only book that I read from this author but not the last.

Loved this series.

This series held my attention making each book zoom by; the overall upbeat feel made this one of my favorites. I pre-ordered each new book and checked often to ensure I didn't miss something. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, but the story kept me coming back. I really feel like there is a huge amount of material to be explored and hope that many books will follow.

This was every bit the book I was waiting for! I totally enjoyed it. The world building was excellent - so much that I sat around after the book was finished imagining what vampire crowns might look like.
All the characters were very relatable and the performance in the audiobook was great.
(I got the book & Audiobook.)

The ending was very satisfying although I am really going to miss this series.

Enjoyed this book and the series

This was an easy read and a fun conclusion to the story. Talk about a rags to riches story. One day she has decided to witness against her low life mob husband. Then in less than a year?? (is that right) she is crowded Vampire Queen of the Americas and what a ride it was getting there. If you enjoy light hearted vampire stories with lots of glitz and glam this is the books for you

Best In The Series

This series just keeps getting better. I love that Belladonna keeps getting challenges thrown her way but she always approaches a solution with sensitivity to others and love in her heart. Even when she's kicking butt!
I also love the small moments between the action scenes, like when we get to peek at the amazing fashions in the Royal closet, or she and Francine just hang out and chat.

The end of the series? Donna swats away crises and enemies left and right. Someone she thought she had lost returns to her, and she takes the throne.
The author portrays a villain as a victim, but Donna knocks him off anyway. That seemed cruel to me.
Typos: The expression is free rein (as in what controls a horse), NOT free reign (a monarch's rule). Sentence fragment ("Mine, right?" She asked), apostrophe s plural (thumb's up), lay for lie (He was laying down again).
