When Barnacle goes missing, Vice and Knigh must work together to rescue her. With a bar brawl, sea magic, and the delicious distraction of each other, join Vice and Knigh on a thrilling short adventure in the Beneath Black Sails series. Available for free on the author's website. ~~~ This story is set during the timeline of Beneath Black Sails between chapter 31 (Changing Course) and 32 (Weakness) while Vice and Knigh are 'fooling around' before she makes her mistake with Captain FitzRoy. It's recommended you read this story after Beneath Black Sails.
Clare Sager writes darkly addictive romantasy full of slow-burn steam, gut-wrenching conflict, and morally grey *everybody*. Dubbed the Queen of Edging by readers, she takes no responsibility for lost sleep or therapy bills.
When she’s not breaking hearts with her Shadows of the Tenebris Court series, Clare can usually be found drinking coffee, lifting weights, or impulse-buying stationery.
She lives in Nottingham, Robin Hood country, so it’s no surprise she writes about characters who don’t always play by the rules.
Hissing Hellcats by Clare Sager is a mildly romantic privateer tale set in the Sabreverse which takes about half an hour that I had in Fierce Hearts: A 2022 Charity Anthology of Romantic Fantasy & Fantasy Romance for Ukraine.
Vice loved Barnacle, the ship’s cat, and was very protective of her, so when she received a ransom note informing her that the cat had been kidnapped she went berserk. She’d be damned if she did not get her back safely. So she disobeyed her captain’s orders and ventured into town with Knigh seeking Jack Rackham, and a tavern fight later showed that Barnacle could very well look after herself and didn’t need saving, after all the hissing hellcat was Vice’s cat and like mother like daughter. I love the humorous tone of this book, it made for a real fun read but was too short a story and I would have loved to go on reading especially about Barnacle who is a great character in the series Beneath Black Sails!
Adorable story which is available when you join the author’s email or as part of the Fierce Hearts Anthology. (All proceeds go to humanitarian efforts helping the Ukrainian people) Part of the Beneath Black Sails series. Barnacle, the pirate ship Morrigan’s mascot/pirate queen’s cat has been catnapped by a rival pirate ship’s captain. Hijinks ensue.
