The Order #3.1

Loose Cannons

Rate this book
The life of a Scout is hardly ever dull.
A new mission from Commander Heinnés takes Ervyn and Lochan to the garrison of the Royal Artillery in Derrhwÿn, where the couple find themselves hard-pressed and in a tight spot.

Loose Cannons is an Order Series novella featuring a wee bit of adventure, a hot encounter in the armoury pavilion and the after-effects of a dodgy love talisman. (Don’t try it at home!)

I was once again stunned at how much really great fantasy goodness Kasia can jam pack into less than 50 pages.

This time, the leader of the Royal Artillery had thoroughly pissed off the leader of the Scouts, resulting in a special "getting even", prank-style mission for Ervyn and Lochan.

Although the pair were never in any mortal danger, this time, the potential of getting caught behind another unit's lines was pretty thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat.

The sexy "Cannon Play" scene wasn't entirely necessary for my full enjoyment of this short novella, but was nonetheless a welcomed addition. Steamy elves are steamy, and all of that, you know! 😁

I'd rate this one at around 4.25 highly-entertaining stars and definitely recommend it to fans of Kasia's "The Scouts" series.

If you could see the grin I've got on my face right now you'd have some measure of the sheer bloody brilliance of this novella.

It's witty, saucy, still manages to have tenderness and emotional vulnerability between Ervyn and Lochan, while at the same time, has them in the most unlikely of settings while on a secret mission.

Honestly I feel like I've just read something that's at least twice as long because this is, make no bones about it, a fully fleshed out jaunt into the Order universe.

Sent off of a mission of the utmost importance, no really, Captain Terryés brought it all on his own head, our elvish duo find themselves getting stuck inside the barrel of the Elven Nation's biggest cannon.

I'll leave it to you to discover what happens next 😉

Kasia Bacon is a certified genius imho and this little snippet is exceptional. It's also a (not so secretly) paean to the glories of food 🍰🍮🍲

I think Kasia Bacon is the only author I've read that can pack such so much in to a short story and leave me feeling like I have read a whole lot more than I just did. Loose Cannons is a little snippet into Ervyn and Lochlan's lives and is definitely not a stand alone, in fact it's the perfect lunch time quickie 😉

Ervyn and Lochlan are two of my favourite fantasy characters, they have such a delicious connection and so totally in love with each other, they make my heart melt.

I love this series, and as always can't wait for more from this series.

Once again I’m amazed by Kasia. How she writes a short story but it feels full I’ll never know.

Our boys are at it again sent on a mission to retrieve a rival’s flag. As you can imagine the shenanigans ensue. But we get some sweet tender moments too. These are why I read.

“I love it when you touch me,”~ Lochan

“No one else knew that his usual indifferent, or—at its worst—forbidding expression could mould into such a gentle, loving look.
No one but me.
Yet another reminder, not that I needed one, that there was no way out of it for me. No measure to how greedy I’d become for him. How desperately I’d fallen .”~Ervyn

Since reading Mutt in 2017 I’ve been hooked on this series, this author and these guys. They never ever disappoint and this is just another brilliant little story.

These books have everything. Great characters, humour, smexy bits and they’re so well written and descriptive it’s like I’ve watched them.

Ervin and Lochan are given the task of banner snatching. I mean really Capitan Terryés should not have pissed off Heinnés.

So since they’re stealthy, capable and incredibly sexy (sexy? The mission requires them to be sexy? Well no but we do) this shouldn’t be too difficult. But things are not as expected when they arrive. And they find themselves with time to kill and for that we are very grateful.

I have a confession - I am totally addicted to The Order Universe. Any time Kasia Bacon has a new installment, I have to have it as soon as possible. I'll trip a bitch, no lie.

Ervyn and Lochan have a new mission, and (sort of) dire consequences if they get caught. But maybe, just maybe, they find themselves with a wee bit of time on their hands. What to do, what to do?!

So many opportunities for innuendo in this story. So. Many. And not a one wasted.

Loose Cannons was an utter delight! A scrumptious morsel that left me grinning ear to ear. Ervyn and Lochan never disappoint, and I love seeing just how in tune with one another they are. A glance or a touch is all it takes, and they are of one mind, and not just in matters of sex, either. Absolutely beautiful.

Well that was a short pleasurable fun, but there is nothing more to say about it. If you've read the rest of the series, it's a nice addition, but you can do without it.

Lochan and reason seemed to exist in separate realms. Not only did he not come to his senses, but proceeded to argue a cruder point by rocking his pelvis against my hard-on. 😋

Another winner by this author! I was so excited to be back in the world of the Order and back with Ervyn and Lochan. I love these two SO much and can never get enough of them (hint to author to write MORE).

I think short stories are difficult for some authors but this one always does such a great job packing a bunch of world building, as well as relationship development into hers.

If you're a fan of this world then you're definitely going to love this one. If you haven't read anything by this author I highly recommend that you do.

“Saying no to Lochan presented an invariable challenge for me. Since our initial camp days, I’d remained so in tune with his needs that responding to them had become a compulsion.”

The way kasia writes, the way these guys are so real, so vividly alive in my mind is astonishing. I have no words to tell you how deep she immerses my whole self in her universe with just one sentence. The atmosphere, the humor, the sexiness. The way she can show me unknown characters and make me want to know their stories. Just like that.

Here we have Ervyn’s voice and it’s so funny, sexy, refreshing and sarcastic you can’t miss it. A delight, as usual.

A Joyfully Jay review.

The Order series is one of my favorites and Ervyn and Lochan are definitely my favorite elves. It’s such a rush each and every time to be back in their world and the only issue with this book (and is it really even an issue) is that it’s a short story and I definitely wanted more time with them.

This book is set before the end of The Scouts and before Ervyn visits the horse fair. The story truly works best having read the other books in the series and being familiar with these characters and their world. Then, it’s a treat to see Ervyn and Lochan on an adventure doing what they do best and having an interlude in a place that only these elves could find themselves in. Although they are on a mission, there is also time for a playful and erotically charged scene between the two, something their schedules don’t always allow for. The author excels at world building and character development and dialogue once again and this story only makes me wish to return to this world.

Excellent! 🧝‍♂️🥷💚💚

Well, it was a tight fit... with this cannon... in this book... But? I'm giving it a green light, people! *wink*

Ervyn and Lochan at their best, folks! And Kasia Bacon at her finest!

I love this series in spades, or should I say in bows and arrows? :)
This little short is steamy as hell, full of adventures, some crazy banter and some signature Ervyn&Lochan action.
It's set in the Scouts HQ and shows one big crazy mission to an 'enemy' garrison. You'll find here the usual The Order elements: sexy elves, some bow-and-arrow showing off and... another hints at, maybe, some future pairings??? (Please, Kasia, please!)

I don't want to give away too much since Loose Cannons is on the shorter side, so, people, grab your The Order series books (starting from The Mutt of course!) and enjoy this beautifully created, exquisitely described fantasy world. (The order books should be read in order, Loose Cannons is not a standalone!)

Highly recommended to the long-time and new The Order fans!

Ervyn and Lochan on a mission together where shenanigans can ensue? Yes, please.

I loved this quick look into their lives in what turned out to be a fun escapade with a bit of naughtiness thrown in. The author once again shows a lot of story can be packed into a short read and still leave me fully satisfied.

The guys are ready to pull off a bit of mayhem…that is if they can keep from being caught in an unlikely place. Suffice to say they turn things interesting thanks to Lochan ;-). Even better? The emotional realizations that were snuck into the story—not that fans of the series were in any doubt how these two feel about each other.

Five stars for Loose Cannons, and to get the most enjoyment from this story I strongly recommend you read the first three books in the series first (The Mutt, The Highlander, and The Scouts). You’ll want to get their background and understand where they are in their relationship to this point. Now to just convince the author these two need a full-length epic fantasy book next!

How delightful to catch up with Ervyn and Lochan!

I first want to say that I absolutely love the universe Kasia Bacon has created for this series. Even in a short story, she provides readers with believable details and imagery--it's a fantasy world I would love to visit. The world-building is just so on point.

This story is a fun one involving a friendly little prank between military regiments. The premise is amusing, and I was enthralled with it from the first page. I will say that Ervyn and Lochan make an outstanding team, both at work and in bed...or occasionally both at the same time lol. And no matter the context, it's always a joy to catch back up with my favorite MCs. I'm super invested in their relationship at this point and can't wait to see what the future holds for them!

The dialogue is outstanding, and as usual, the side characters are interesting. I absolutely adore their commanding officer, Hiennes, and Kasia--if you see this--may I personally request a story about him? He's absolutely hilarious, and I'm certain he'd be a delight to learn more about. Just sayin. :)

What can you do if you find yourself in a compromised position, trapped in a tight space, in the middle of your enemy's territory? Ask Lochan...
Ervyn and Lochan find themselves in a dangerous mission which involves stealing a valued object right in the middle of the enemy's territory... or sort of. But there is nothing these two cannot accomplish together, even finding time for some private pleasures while waiting for their chance...
My boys are baaaaaack! I love Lochan and Ervyn from the very first time I met them, at the Mutt, and every single story makes me fall harder for them. I love the world Miss Bacon has created in this universe, with its own vocabulary, myths and history, but above all I love her characters which are simply unique. Loose Cannons made me smile, made me laugh, made me swoon... my boys are perfect
As always, my only complaint is that it was not enough... too short, I need more!

Great installment into already a brilliant series!!!!.
Reading a book was like diving into a story of two well known friends having a lot of spicy ( hot🔥, very hot and sexy hot), great and fun time.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the quirky scene when the two of them were making ...world turn loose canons..... Kasia's way of packing so much details, humour and adventure and transporting you straight into the heart of the story is just amazing!!!! From the first word you are immersed into the world of fantasy and fun and hot sex and lots, lots more. Just brilliant!!!

While Loose Cannons is a short novella in The Order series, it packs a fair amount into the few pages, giving insight into Ervyn and Lochan's relationship and the rivalry between the different Elf military groups.
The mission Ervyn and Lochan are sent out on is more what I would consider a college level prank but with a lot more at stake considering the high skill level of those taking part. It makes for an entertaining read with a very interesting and heated interlude, showing just how well matched Ervyn and Lochan are in all aspects of their relationship, personal and professional. How well they've come to know each other shines through in all of their interactions. The antics and obvious connections between some other members of their group also brings a moment or two of fun to proceedings.
Kasia has built up such an in depth and interesting fantasy world here and it's so easy to fall back into with every book that comes out in this series. It's one to be read in order and definitely worth it for the relationship and character development as well as the overall series arc that grows with each book.

This short story is very, very clever! Like all of Kasia Bacon's work, it's highly entertaining. Ervyn and Lochan are once again the go-to men elves for a special mission. They're highly competent in their execution, extremely creative when things don't go according to plan, and very sexy while biding their time. All with some delightful humor.

It may actually be a 5-star read, but for now gets 4 stars. I read it a while back and don't know if I have any Kindle notes. (Still hate this f-ing new book page and still haven't searched for a how-to section.)

It now appears that I"ve read (nearly?) everything Bacon has written, with the exception of the "Bonus Epilogue to 21 Arrow Salute" and Rago. Since the latter includes a dragon, I need to get on that ASAP!

The sex scene that gives title to this book may or may not have been that for me nothing had changed.

This entertaining short story has a fun plot, tenderness, banter, and a general festive undertone. What I enjoyed the most was seeing Ervyn bragging: the scene alla Indiana Jones from Ervyn and his bow was spot on.

Um, I’m kicking myself because once again, I’m in the position where I’m all caught up on this author’s works, and it’s not a good feeling!

I. Need. More.

This is probably my top favorite MM fantasy universe. Just saying.

So, if you want a quick peek at Lochan and Ervyn then just be reassured that this delivers on a fun adventure of them doing what they do best - accomplishing the impossible mission. Seeing them work so in sync and being happy is just icing on the cake, and my only complaint is that like with ALL of Bacon’s works, this ended too soon and obviously, was not enough.

It never is. *sigh*
