Teressa Gutierrez, known as the Cyclone for her unparalleled speed and ferocity, was the most dominant Featherweight champion in the history of women’s mixed martial arts — until a devastating defeat almost ended her career. Everyone thought she was finished, but Teressa refused to give up. A hard-nosed realist who believes in nothing but muscle and courage, she comes to Seattle looking for a miracle: one last shot at glory and redemption. And she’s ready to crush anything that stands in her way.
Cameron Shaw is a struggling novelist who needs a break. When a sports agent friend sets up a gig to cover the big fight, ala Norman Mailer and Ali, Cameron detests the idea but has no choice but to accept.
From the moment these two meet, sparks fly. Worlds apart, they find themselves in the grip of something they can’t resist, something bigger than championships or art. Fate — and the Spirit of the Season — seems to want them together — even if they’re both fighting with every fiber of their being to resist.
Alex Washoe (they/them) is a nonbinary writer, game designer, and full-time pet parent living in Seattle, WA. In previous incarnations, they have been a bookseller, a wildlife rehab care assistant, a dog walker at a companion animal shelter, a public speaker, an amateur stand-up comedian, and many other less interesting things. Alex is prone to sudden, seemingly random enthusiasms — the list currently includes birdwatching, baking, running, hair dye … and of course writing. Writing is always job one.
Teressa Gutierrez former MMA Featherweight AMEX Champion has host only one fight in her career and she almost died from the beating she took. Cameron Shaw is in a writer’s slump when her friend arranges a Sports Illustrated piece about the Cyclone and her challenge to get her title back. From the moment they meet the sparks light up and ther dance begins. A tome on the struggle to get back to the top and a joint Soltice reunion of series characters and new friends. Great series.
The romance between the two main characters is very cute. I'm not a big fan of Christmas centered things, even if this book focuses more on the solstice. I still enjoyed it despite that. It's nice to read about well-done non-binary characters and not have any make a big deal about it.
Some of the fight scenes can be a bit brutal, so beware to anyone who can be squeamish about that.
A solid 4.5. Some of this is a little slow at times, and not all of it is my cup of tea. Overall, it's well written and handles topics extremely well. You want everything to workout.
I found myself wanting a little more closure at the end. Either way, decent story, written very well.
This book took me about two weeks to read I sort of lost interest after a while. I'm not sure of how they fell in love to be honest and I didn't feel like they knew each other enough for the words that have been exchanged either but it is good to read
