Mack Bolan makes a hard probe into the ritualized execution of four U.S. border patrol agents and a U.S. Marshal. His target is a cartel across the border with a hand in just about every illegal activity--drugs, guns, whatever produces lots of easy "dinero."

Convinced that there are treasonous Americans in the mix, Bolan becomes a one-man blitzkrieg across the Rio Grande, kicking butt and taking names. He goes undercover as one of the best of the worst, infiltrating the mercenaries who've sold themselves and their country for a taste of power and money. The Executioner is hungry, too, but for a different kind of meal: cold, hard justice.

These men's adventure novels are a guilty pleasure of mine. Published by an imprint of Harlequin, these books are now issued monthly and have been written by multiple ghost writers since Pendleton stopped writing them in 1980. Having debuted in 1969, that means Mack Bolan has been fighting crime and injustice for almost 30 years. Every summer, when beach reading time comes around, I get a yen for this kind of high-octane trash thriller. This one's got more cartoony elements than usual, but it didn't fail to please me. Now, back to more heady reading!
