Neither of them is looking for a relationship, but the proximity has them quickly falling for one another, flaws and all.

Boring

Nice attempt but just so dull and full of so many flaws in the story. It goes in every direction which makes zero sense and the characters are super annoying. Marking this “author” as do not read.

I thought this was cute! Now it did have some dull parts where I was like ok cmon give me more. But it was sweet & a quick read. I really wish there was more action though, or at least one more time baby daddy showed up and caused a ruckus.

Damon, Liam and Aiden are more than happy to follow in their fathers foot steps and very proud to be firefighters. Damon Jackson lost his wife to cancer a few years back and his brothers worry about him constantly Ever since Carol passed Damon seems to be just going through the motions of living. Getting up, eat, work, home to an empty house that the high school sweethearts bought as a fixer upper and Carol threw her heart and soul into decorating and making it a true home. They decided to hold off on starting a family for a few years to save money. That way Carol could be a stay at home mom. But, fate played the ace of spades and took her way before her time. Now Damon just has his job to look forward to each day.
His parents were always into always being there for anyone, and everyone any time they were needed. It is just how their family worked. In fact his father gave his life saving a family and the boys know he never would have regretted it. Damon very much takes after his father. His thought is if he has to give his life to save another so be it.
As the fire engine pulls up to the complex that is fully engulfed in flames a little girl comes running out the door. Screaming for somebody to help her Mommy. Damon and Aiden finish getting quickly in their gear. Before he knows it Damon is running back to Aiden with the girl in his arms. He shouts at his brother to get her help and turns back to the fire. As he rushes into the complex he hears Aiden scream"the whole place is caving, in get back to the truck." Damon continues into the fire calling the women who is trapped there. "Let me know where you are. Bang on the walls. Let me hear where you are." He suddenly hears faint pounding down the hall. He rushes in and sees a women laying on the floor. All he can see is her sooty black form and piercing green eyes. Damon rushes in and scoops her into his arms. As he barely clears the door way the entire structure comes crashing down.
The people injured are taken to the hospital and Damon follows. He can't get those green eyes or the terrible site of the girl running out of the roaring fire out of his mind. He has to make sure they are okay. He had no time to check them over before they were loaded into the ambulance.
Fate has a strange way of placing people who are deeply hurt and hurting into the path of someone who needs to nurture and care for them. So begins a great story.

This is a love story of a single mother, Tessa, and a firefighter Damon. When the home they live in catches fire Damon and Liam are part of the crew that responded. Upon arrival, Damon sees and hears a young girl exiting the home alone crying that her mommy is trapped inside. Once he gets Emily to the EMTs.

Against training, and more importantly his orders, Damon runs into the fire, to look for the child's, mother. There is little time, and the smoke is getting worse. The structure is becoming increasingly, more unstable and without having his proper gear, time is running out. Once he locates the mother, he realizes it's the woman he’s been jonesing after, from the grocery store. Liam comes in to guide them out, helping with the rescue.

He reunites Tessa with her daughter, Emily. Once they are checked out, Emily runs into the arms of Damon the thank him for saving her mom and being her hero. Later, that evening Tessa and Emily stop by so she can drop off a drawing Emily did for Damon for being her hero.

Moments like those of saving a family gives the Jackson brothers reason to continue to do their job. Damon, and his two brothers, Liam and Aidan, come from a line of firefighters in the family. Their mom before she passed, was always a big supporter of all her boys, as well as the giving service outside their job, too.

Unfortunately, their father perished in a fire. They all wanted, to carry on the legacy, working with the community, protecting and serving them, as first responders, namely as firefighters. So, when Damon finds out, Tessa and Em, have no place to stay, or family to help, guess what he does? Sorry, you’ll need to read the book. I loved this book. The relationship between, Emily & Damon is every little girls dream. These are, just a lot of fun characters.

The couple: Damon and Tessa

Romance trope:
Series: Rough Edges
Length: 256 pages

Plot: When Tessa's apartment burns down, good guy firefighter Damon invites her and her young daughter to live with him while they're getting back on their feet. He's not entirely without ulterior motives - he does find Tessa attractive - but he's not ready for romance after the death of his wife, so really, he just wants to be a good person and help them out. But when they both start developing feelings, will he let her in or will he stay locked away in his grief?

Commentary: I'm not bothered by Damon's reluctance to move on - I think that's normal. Even his feelings of doing something wrong are normal, from what I understand. What I didn't like was the fact that he was stringing Tessa along. He was so wishy-washy and back and forth that she must have been confused and frustrated, but she never got mad at him. Made it a little unrealistic - nobody's that nice. Because the book was built on Damon's back and forth, it became a little predictable in spots - you knew that when things seemed like they were going well, he was going to pull back. It was the story of a beta guy mired in grief living a fairly dull life. While it makes for a relatable story, it doesn't make for an exciting one. I can get relatable in my own daily life, but I don't know that I want that in my stories, necessarily. Off to read some alien abduction romances.

Next book in the series: Admire Me

Thank you BookSprout and Ashley Zakrzewski for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

WHAT I LIKED:
This book was so sweet and touching! Damon rescues Tessa and her daughter from a burning building and then takes them in when they have no where to go. From there, their friendship and feelings blossom into a beautiful love story. Tessa's daughter, couldn't be any cuter! She is the character you just melt for!

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
I feel like the big dramatic plot of this story happened too early on.. it built up but then there were additional little things afterwards that did need to happen but it just didn't feel right. Like, by that point the story was over and should've just moved the Christmas dinner to the epilogue..

OVERALL / RECOMMENDATION:
I loved this book! The drama captures you right off the bat and the way the characters are written, you can't help but fall in love with them and hope that they fall in love with each other as well. I recommend this book to all romance lovers. This is not one you are going to want to miss.

I really enjoyed this book.

Tessa is a single mom to her daughter Emily, Tessa has had it rough her ex left her when her daughter was little. So she struggled a lot to give her daughter the things she needed but she pushed through. She worked at grocery store so she could be home with her daughter after school. She meets Damon a firefighter who saves her and her daughter when her apartment catches fire and she finds herself nowhere to live. Damon is a man who has lost his wife to cancer and is dealing with his grief and Tessa and Emily coming into his life was fate and helped him heal. Read their journey into how they fall in love and theirs steamy parts, parts that will make you cry from joy and from being so mad. A must read I can’t wait to read more of the series.

This is the first book in the Rough Edges series. There is so much to love about Damon and Tessa's story it sweet and steamy, Tessa's daughter is adorable, and the way Damon is with her made me smile. They both have reasons for avoiding love and relationships, Damon lost his first wife and love to cancer and Tessa's ex is abusive and abandoned her and their daughter years ago. This book is about finding love and happiness again and not being afraid to grab it with both hands and hold on tight. Can't wait to dead Damon's two brothers’ stories.

A beautiful novel I ended up reading in one afternoon. How could I not?
What happens to Tessa and her daughter, Emily, is my biggest fear. I cannot imagine losing everything and starting over. Even if it leads me to one of the greatest Book Boyfriends I have ever read in contemporary romance, Damon.
This poor GUY!!! Yet he shows up to help others.
The author has really upped the game on book one of a new series. Though I don't know how there can be another couple--fictional or not--that will come close to the made for each other chemistry of T & D.
It comes down to who helped who in this newly made family. You will truly Adore , Adore Me.

Tessa is a single mom who has struggled until her rental catches fire and they get rescued by local sexy firefighter Damon. Damon lost his wife to cancer and is lonely but is not sure he is ready for a relationship but when he rescues Tessa and her daughter from a fire that left them homeless he offers for them to stay with him. Will he take a chance on another relationship with Tessa or walk away?

Sweet, emotional, finding love again....A wonderful read!!!

Adore Me is the first book in the Rough Edges series and it is a complete winner for me. I adored this emotional story, get a box of tissues ready when you crack this book open, which is well written, has a gripping story-line and wonderful characters. The story is about Damon and Tessa who find love when they least expect it, and it takes a while to get there. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Tessa and Damon’s story was beautiful! Forced Proximity is my absolute favorite trope and although Ashley is a new to me author, she has made me a devoted follower now after finishing Adore Me! An alpha hero with a bruised but soft hidden heart that I adored and a heroine that had me rooting for her from the first chapter! Excellent read! Highly recommended

This was my first read from this author. I absolutely loved the first person point of view of the story, this is a deal breaker for me. This was such a sweet story about Damon, who's the firefighter and saves Tessa's life one day. These two were amazing together. 5 stars.

This contemporary romance about a firefighter (Damon Jackson) and the woman (Tessa) and her child (Emily) he saves seemed a little too much insta-love.

Told from the perspectives of both Tessa and Damon (in chapters titled with their names to keep the reader apprised), there was too much telling, not showing (example, paraphrasing "Damon's just wonderful and I know he really cares about Emily. It's just the way he is." Tessa's perspective almost immediately after staying with him and all the way through the story). Both protagonists do this repeatedly throughout the novel as is the action that triggered isn't enough to carry the story. Each chapter is full of these passages, and they certainly padded the story with more pages to read, but left this reader mentally saying, "Enough already, I get it.--he/she is wonderful, the best single mom in the world, etc."

Another thing that bothered this reader is the "thesaurus effect" of using words that might be a synonym, but isn't really appropriate even if it may sound impressive, and this occurs over and over again. Then, too, is choosing the wrong word. An editor should have picked up on these; a proofreader would have caught them. I found that I used my Nook dictionary so many times when I'd get tripped up by these odd word choices. This is an advantage to me, but maybe not to the author. (an example of the first: A mug of coffee TRANSPIRES in front of her. page 36 of 186 transpires vs. appears; an example of the second: ...there are things that could have kept us apart, but we fought through them and PRESERVED. page 182 of 186 is the word PRESERVED instead of persevered).

As might be expected, plenty of What-the-tuck trends (green-eyed Tessa, pencil skirt, hair tucking, winking, smirking), but they have become ubiquitous in nearly story any more.

Overall, the romance was just okay and seemed rushed (and not just the time-frame of 4-5 months from loss of the apartment to engagement), but going from one holiday to another to a court case to another holiday--no custody case goes that quickly, EVER. Still, there is a happily ever after at least so far with a "to be continued" to end the story.

Younger readers may love this one because of all the mental gymnastics Tessa and Damon constantly go through between scenes of action.

Damon & Tessa

Damon Jackson is a firefighter in his hometown. He has followed his father in the famIly legacy along with his brother Liam. Damian has struggled after 12 year marriage to High school sweetheart Carol from cancer.
He has lived an empty life since her passing. Depression has kicked in though he remains true, loyal and responsible as a firefighter. The Jackson family know the risks involved in being a Firefighter since they lost their father to the job @ very young ages.
It's a lot harder to When is the loft of a spouse and you are helpless to help them. You just have to watch them die. Before Carol passed she told me to make sure I found happiness again. She will told Need to make sure I find 2 happiness again and fall in love.I did not think that was going to happen. Little did Damon know he would meet the second love 💘 of my life in a home rescue.
Saving EmIly & Tessa from their apt. changed all their lives.

Tessa was at a dead end job at the local grocery store w/ a boss giving her grief on a regular bases. The creep doesn't understand about being a single parent. Threatens her hours & continues to make sexual passes daily. Tessa needs the job regardless if it stops her from having quality time with her daughter.
Emily knows her mom loves & would do anything for her. Especially since her father hasn't been part of her life for 3 years. Tessa had to leave the abusive relationship for her & Emily's well being.Little did Tessa know Her life would change when Firefighter Jackson save their life. Having nowhere to live and a spare room Damon offers Tessa and Emily a place to stay @ his home until they get on their feet. Damon has enjoyed the busy atmosphere of his home. He has hated the quietness since the passing of his wife Carol.
Can Damon build a new life w/ this beauty & her daughter? Can they become a family? Read the story of Tessa and Damon and how they build a life together while struggling w/their personal losses.

so this story is definitely insta-love which i didn't mind but i did wish there was a bit more build up in the romance? but i guess it was going to feel rushed considering it's a short book

didn't really feel the chemistry between the love interests, and i wasn't really attached to the characters?? the writing was also repetitive and bland at times

the spicy scenes really lacked imo, but the plot was okay and i did gasp a few times at the plot twists lmao

at least there's no miscommunication or break up, because honestly the author could have done that...but it was a healthy relationship being portrayed

overall, it was an okay read and i guess i could recommend it but it didn't wow me in any way

Tessa is a single mum who's house gets burned down, her daughter escapes but she's trapped. That's when firefighter Damon goes against everything to save her. When he offers her somewhere to stay she takes it. But she's always promised herself that she'd never fall for a firefighter. They're both coping with their own inner demons. But will the mutual attraction and connection become too much to ignore?...

There are a few things that annoyed me with this book, the most glaring being the timelines. They never lined up or made sense.

Then there was the job that Tessa takes where she works at a high school. She works on a Saturday and up to Christmas Eve which doesn’t happen in schools. Or the fact that her firefighter boyfriend only works a like 9-3 shift.

Please do research before you write a book, and maybe outline a timeline.

firefighter insta love

Forced promissory, insta love, single mom. A couple bumps of drama but over all very slow and steady. Tess lost her apartment in a fire and Damon offered her a place to stay. The rest is history! This story felt much more tell than show I and I didn’t feel their chemistry at all. I did love the relationship between Damon and Emily

Tessa (FMC) a single mother . Damon (MMC) a fighter fighter. Tessa needs help when her apartment burns down. Damon whose wife passed away isn’t open to love but opens his door to Tessa and her daughter. This is a slow burn romance. I wish there was more action with Tessa’s baby daddy. Lol 😂
