Hermione thought her biggest issues this year would be being stuck in a dead-end job and not quite getting along with her new officemate, Draco Malfoy. However, the Ministry is about turn her tidy and contained life upside down with the announcement of the new Marriage and Family Law, and there's more trouble brewing as outbursts of uncontrolled magic begin to wreck havoc in the office.

Draco has been reassigned to Corporate Services after an Auror mission went spectacularly sideways; at least, that's what he's telling everyone. The truth is hardly as straightforward and Granger has him increasingly on edge, so naturally, he was only too pleased to learn of the new Law that was going to out him as a Creature to the woman he loves.

Ugh if you want a pining Draco that’s in agony in the inside batting back his feelings for H with a moderately sized stick but on the outside acts cold and aloof, this Draco is it. It was super sweet and I found the writing quite solid. It was going so good but I felt like the ending was so rushed and I missed the whole middle part of the book. I wish it was slowed down and their relationship had more time before the ending and everything coming in all at once (hence 3.5 but I rounded up cause I just liked the pining possessive protector from the shadows Draco).

i get that the author was not in a good mind state when she finished writing but i can’t help pointing out how rushed the ending felt. i liked the epilogue but the romance itself felt forced by the circumstances. we clearly saw draco pining after hermione and denying himself of being with her but i didn’t get the feeling that hermione felt nearly as much as draco did.

The ending felt too rushed and too “neat.” I also felt that the romance itself was lacking since it was mostly Draco pining after Hermione. But there weren’t that many scenes with meaningful interactions. I had some issues with the formatting as well. It was decent though.

DNF at 50%.
I did not like the characterization of both, and I don't like stories where there is a lack of communication just to give angst to the story, there is no need for Draco to be hiding information for so long, just why?

A mix of serious and silly and flip flops between them which is jarring sometimes. Their personalities, especially Draco’s are not true to canon but overall entertaining.

Possessive Veela Draco secretly pining for his mate makes my chest tight & his talons clawing away at her clothes makes me drool. I wanted to linger on their established relationship a little longer, like witnessing their wedding or more smut scenes.

I liked the premise, but the writing didn't quite live up to it. And the ending was rushed and there was barely any smut.
