When Blade's best friend, Jake, is fatally shot in war he begs Blade to take care of his pregnant husband, Weylyn, and their two children. He promises Jake he will, but by the time he's sent home from the war and out of the hospital from his own injuries Weylen and his children are homeless and in and out of shelters. Maybe Blade can bring more than just Christmas cheer to Weylen and his family for Christmas.
This short story was quite sad for the most part, but had some Christmas love too. I loved all of the characters in it. Especially Blade and Weylen. The HEA was perfect.
What a mess. She thanks her beta readers, for what I wonder. They didn't even find the most obvious typos. Even the names got mixed up, the child called Niahm is Naihm on occasion. Don't let me get started on the mix-up with tenses, gah. Just a tipp: write the story in the past tense, it flows better anyway. So, the mpreg wasn't introduced or anything, the story wasn't built. Okay, it was just a Christmas short but didn't convince me to try anything else from that author, sorry.
I'm honestly being generous by giving this 2*s. The premise had so much potential but the result was similar to a bowl of spaghetti. What a mess! It's too bad the author couldn't find it in herself to have this run by an editor. I encourage the author to re-write the story and make it presentable and good enough to be proud of it. Otherwise, I don't recommend it.
