A young, blond man came up to Nicholas and started talking to him. He seemed nice, Maya thought. He smiled while he spoke, waving his arms to emphasise his words. Nicholas nodded sagely as he pretended to listen. Not showing any sign of returning the man’s brilliant smile.
Maya moved closer. Feeling curious.
"Aren't you going to introduce me, Nicholas?" she asked.
Maya smiled at the young man. He seemed to be only a few years older than her. He had a healthy complexion that showed he enjoyed spending time outside. The young man returned her smile.
"I'm Alfie, and I'm so pleased to meet such a lovely woman," he said and beamed at her. He held out his hand to greet her.
"This is my sister, Maya. Touch her and die," Nicholas said coldly.
The young man froze, his hand hanging in midair.
"Ignore him, Alfie," Maya said. "He's not my brother. He's just afraid I'll lose my V-card on his watch."
Both gawked at her.
"Hi, I'm Maya. I'm so pleased to meet you," she said and shook his hand. "I'm 23 by the way, so I make my own decisions."
"Dammit, Maya," Nicholas seethed beside her.
"Why don't you find a girlfriend to harass, Nicholas. I'm sure Alfie and I can find something interesting to talk about."
"Piss off, Alfie!" Nicholas said and grabbed Maya's arm. He pulled her away from the shocked young man.
With Nicholas holding her arm, he manoeuvred her into the hallway nearby. It was quiet. No one was near enough to hear. Maya sighed and prepared herself for another reprimand. Great.
"Wow. That was subtle," Maya said. "I liked him. Why did you have to ruin it?"

This "review" is going to be short because I suck at writing them, lol. I had high hopes going into this novella, but was left disappointed in the end. It wasn't even a fun quick read. I had expected a dark, gritty romance, not something that read like the Wattpad novels I enjoyed at 15. The main issue I have with the novella is that it lacks depth. I understand that it is a novella and there is only so much an author can do in 100 pages, but I have read several erotic novellas previously that I enjoyed; take Penny Wylder's novellas for example. There was obviously a taboo aspect, considering the romance was between stepsiblings, but even then that relationship dynamic wasn't convincing. I'm horrible with words so I won't even try to explain what I mean, lol. The dubcon content was practically nonexistent, and that fact left me feeling unsatisfied, as did the intimate scenes between Maya and Nicholas. Overall, I can understand where I was mistaken in expecting a dark novella, but in the end, neither the writing nor storyline kept me engaged and wanting to know more. It was just bleh.

Maya knew what she wanted so along
I almost didn't finish this a few times. I get that Nicholas was in his head a lot, but the repetition of his conviction just beleaguered the pace of the story every time it came back to his imagined guilt. I enjoyed the characters, and the story was potentially cute, just bogged down by the thing I mentioned before, you know? Maya knew what she wanted and she put in the work. It was mostly enjoyable just a little draggy, repetitive and Overall easy to read, once you figured out what Nicholas is issue was!

I loved it every bit of was exciting and far more fun than I expected. The tension and experience of reading was something else. I will never forget the emotion of the book. Everything was amazing

It was good, but nothing outstanding.
It’s was an enjoyable read but at the same time there was no depth.
So if you are looking for a light easy read, this book is for you!

Crossing lines
Enjoyable, but I don't know if I'd call this dubcon or erotic. I mean, he tells her where to go, but he's the one fighting the attraction the whole time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but it's just a stepbrother romance.
