Tangled Garden: Wilted Petals & Chaotic Delusions
Devina, a girl with a dark past and unhealthy coping mechanisms, leads an unconventional lifestyle. What may seem dangerous to some, is down-right intoxicating to others. Hyacinth, a sweet girl next door who devotes her time to her father and stressful job, generally spends her weekends shrouded in a purple haze and avoiding her boring husband.A ‘chance encounter’ leaves Devina pining for Hyacinth, taking full advantage of Hyacinth’s unhappy marriage full of doubts. Treading the line of betrayal lightly, the two explore their heated connection in secret. The pair are quickly blinded by their own desires and Devina grows impatient with their twisted situation. Hyacinths reluctance to accept her true self pushes Devina over the edge and into a possessive mania that will forever change both of their lives. Can Devina convince Hyacinth to stand by her side while she navigates a menacing illness or will Devina take both of them down with her thunderstorm of chaos?

A taut, gripping tale of erotic suspense.
Cyn is coasting through life, unhappy in a marriage to a man while in denial about her sexuality, dabbling in substance misuse just to get through her days and ignore the reason for her misery.
Dev, haunted by her demons, unexpectedly comes into Cyn's life, their attraction instant and impossible to ignore. Beginning a passionate affair, theirs is a romance that threatens to spill over into obsession.
To the other, each is an addiction impossible to satiate, a danger that threatens to escalate to a tragic and irrevocable climax.
'Tangled Garden' is the first in Savvy Rose's 'Beautifully Broken' series. A novella in two parts; the first, 'Wilted Petals', explores the beginnings and the fallout of an extramarital affair, reminiscent of a sapphic 'Fatal Attraction'; while the second, 'Chaotic Delusions', is a psychological drama, a character study in trauma revealing more twists and turns to this tale of two troubled women.
It took a while for me to warm to Cyn; while you can sympathise with the turmoil triggered by her denial and living a lie, it's a struggle to see past both her behaviour towards her husband and her dishonesty with her lover about her marriage, which triggers the catastrophic events that follow. Despite her issues and, at times, alarming behaviour, I found Dev a more sympathetic character. With the novella's second part told from her perspective, we learn more about her history; a psychological autopsy of a traumatised young woman who simply wants to be loved.
Not only erotic fantasy, this is a well-written, character-driven drama; a story realistically told and brimming with romantic suspense. Exploring themes of mental health issues and infidelity, the fantasy doesn't detract from the damage inflicted upon the characters by both the events of their pasts and also their present actions. I look forward to the next in the series and also reading more of Savvy Rose's work.

I just want to jump up and down, screaming more FF romance. Why is it so hard to find dark FF romance? I was super pumped when Savvy mentioned she had a dark FF novella out. I ran for the download button so fast. 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️
Tangled Garden is set up as two stories: Wilted Petals and Chaotic Delusions. Hyacinth is the “good girl” who is in an unhappy marriage. There are parts of herself that she has never fully admitted to herself and just settled with her husband. He was there, he was stable, he was wealthy and he wanted her … settling. Until she runs into Devina, who sets her on fire.
Their story is messy in the fact that there is drug use, cheating, self harm and a journey of discovering one’s self. It’s a rocky road for everyone involved. Devina is my favorite character because of her development and backstory. She is messy, possessive and a little unstable. She sees a therapist but it goes in one ear and out the other. The downside I had with this book was I wanted more in a few areas such as 1. the fade to black scenes (like don’t get me wrong there are spicy scenes but then there are some fade to black, too. I still wanted those as well, like give it all to me! 😆), 2. Dev’s past relationships especially with Alyssa and her whole past in general (it sounds wild). Another downside for me was missing the ”ah ha” moment with the mind games. Savvy successfully played with my mind but I was missing that moment where it goes off like a light bulb 💡 . But in all honesty for a debut book it kept me interested, curious and wanting more, I’d say that’s a good book.
