This was book two of the Hart Consulting series, a story with quite sensitive content, human trafficking.
There is an enemies-to-lovers aspect that was perfectly present, I think it was more denial than hate.
There are hot moments, humor, hurt, action, undercover acts, family, romance, a lot of tension.
Nick and Ax with both baggage, the characters were wonderfully developed.
Overall an intense, entertaining story

RTC but I really enjoyed the plot of this one, I was very into the book and I had a good time reading it. I just had a little issue where I didn’t really like both of the main characters of the book and their actions, but at different times in the book, so that made it a little harder for me to enjoy the book at times.

I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

I won this book and I'm so glad I read it! It's the second in the Hart's Consulting series about (mostly?) human trafficking. Didn't think I'd enjoy the subject but it was as tastefully written as the versatile MC's allowed. (The MC's were rescuers.) This was a standalone but might help to keep the characters seperate. I'd not read this author before but I will definately read the next. Exciting and not just the sex! Recommended.

Ax and Nick are quite a pair. They spark off one another, Nick bristles when he is around Ax. They are complex men, both working in covert ops and both are in complex relationships with their respective families. Each has his own approach to handling their business and concerns which is part of why they spark off one another. Ax tends to hold people at arms length to protect himself, Nick and his brother Bray are working to pull their family, blood and embraced. Bray and Ax have an interesting connection as well that also perplexes Nick. This is a passionate pair, with lots of issues and it takes a lot of work for them to work their way to one another. At the same time these two are finding a way to redirect their response to one another into a love affair, the storyline from the first book continues. I liked this somewhat broken pair of men and rooted for them to find a way to fill in each others' cracks and crevices. I also liked the blending of their imperfect families into something good for all involved. These are good men who have come through some tough times, who are willing to do the work to create something good not only for themselves but the people they care about. I am looking forward to the next book.

This is an enemies-to-lovers story with a lot of moving pieces, and it’s easy to get caught up in the intensity of the action side of things– the covert ops group both protagonists work for is trying to take out some nasty human trafficking organizations, and the stakes are high and in some cases, deeply personal. On the romance side of things, it’s fun as well as hot for a few chapters, but when the angst picks up it does so in a big way, and for the majority of the novel we basically get to see Nick being a saint and Ax being the worst version of himself. To give Ax context: he’s years into a deeply personal trauma, and his coping mechanism is to push people away. It’s easy to empathize with him up to a point, but also to agree with his own self-assessment: he’s incredibly self-focused and he does lash out at innocent people whenever things get tense. Because his focus is so entirely on his mission and his personal demons, every bit of the heavy lifting in the romance, from start to finish, is done by Nick, and while it’s lopsided as all heck, at least Nick has a clear perspective on exactly what Ax is and isn’t capable of ( sure, Ax says he’s going to be better, but we never really get to see that in action, and color me cynical, but pics or didn’t happen). I love, however, the covert ops organization as a whole, and Sin/Max is the guardian angel I hope I’d never need but would be super lucky to have. I’m looking forward to more of these guys’ stories, as the series continues.

Wow just brilliant what a complex read that had me very emotional at times.
Firstly let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me choosing to leave my honest review.
Let me first say I’m not going to go too far in on the story because you need to read it yourselves and get totally lost in this story. There is so much going on so emotional at times but the chemistry between Nick and Ax is off the charts, I mean my skin was sizzling just reading the tension between them. But you’ve also got them working on a mission together and it’s a humongous mission. Heart consulting Is on the trail of sex traffickers and they have to go undercover to go after the head of the operation. But what you also find out is that Ax is also looking for his younger sister who disappeared three years ago and is believed to be taken as part of a sex trafficking group. Then throw in families and you’ve got one hell of a story.
I’ve got to say that these two have made my day. The tension, the chemistry, the passion and the banter just rang true and it made me sizzle. You’ve got these two big strong guys who don’t like to show vulnerability but when they do they make sure they’re there for each other. It’s just a fantastic read I could not put it down I read it through the night and I don’t even care that I’ve lost sleep!! I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I know who I’m hoping it’s going to be about. 10 out of 10 brilliant read

Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 2 in the Hart Consulting series, and I strongly recommend you read book one, Sweet Hart, before this one. If only to find out what happens when Bray goes after Sam!

I said in my review for Sweet Hart that I had questions: questions that were not fully answered, nor indeed ASKED in my book brain in that book. I stand by that, and raise you MORE questions! So many more questions! I can voice a few, but not going to voice them here, for spoilers! But hopefully, at some point, I will get my questions and answers all lined up nicely!

It is a busy book, again, with a huge supporting cast, some new ones thrown in here, I think! I had to concentrate to keep up and a couple of points, I kinda glazed over. Maybe I was concentrating too hard, I dunno, I just spaced out and had read a few pages that came back to me later in the book. Odd feeling, to be honest!

But anyway! Steamy, heavy on the smexy times, once Ax and Nick finally give in to the attraction between them. But also heavy on the emotions, mostly from Ax. Given what he has had on his shoulders for three years, and what he THEN has to do, it's hardly surprising he's the most emotional of the two, but Lord that man hides it! Nick's emotions are more centred around his big brother, Mase, and how Nick feels about what he now knows about his father and what said father did to Mase and, to a lesser extent, Bray.

But God I NEED Mason's story, like yes-ter-day! With what happens early in this book, those questions I CAN voice are flying around so damn high, I tell ya! Mason and Jazz, that's gonna be a difficult book, especially as we all heard Jazz say what he did. Something bad happened to Jazz, and no one knows, not even Mason.

So, hurry, please, Ms Marks, and write quicker. Write. QUICKER. Write Mason's story QUICKER!!

cos of the spacing out thing, and because I did enjoy it as much as book one,

a solid 4 stars

To start I will say this book has DARK elements. The main characters are good guys but sometimes they have to let bad things happen to innocent people to help more people in the long run. Please be careful reading this if you are sensitive to dark themes.

I do recommend you read this series in order. The events in this book are a continuation of what happened in the first book, and without the first book you would be a little lost.

Nick and Ax don’t get along but it’s more about them both thinking the other hates him then actual dislike. They have to work an op together and that starts to help them see each other differently. This book focuses a lot on Ax’s personal mission, and how Nick fits into that. I really enjoyed their growth as individual characters, and well working partners and romantic partners. Both of them have family drama and that at times brings them together and pulls them apart.

I don’t want to give away spoilers but I will say this book has a lot of angst and stressful situations. It also has funny moments and good insight into side characters as well. If you like brooding hero and a good amount of angst I really think you will enjoy this book.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review.

*** Arc provided by GRR. This is my honest review ***

Wow this one really packed a punch. It carries the theme from the first book along and can be read as a standalone if needed but I recommend reading the first book to fully understand the background to the guys.

It took me awhile to like Nick if I'm honest, the more he was pushing his agenda (I understand why but just wanted him to stop) and he kind of felt like he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Once he and Ax got together and he started to listened up I saw more of Bray in him. The helpful personality came out and he was so much more likeable to me. I enjoyed the scenes with the victims, his innate kindness really showed through.

I love Ax and his quick wit. I figured what he was chasing and it was good to see it all come together. He made it hard on Nick at times, and the banter once they were on the same page was good to read.

This one again has me wanting more, I can see some of the pairings that are coming and I'm itching for their stories but I also want to know more about Ghost.

Great read.

On the romance front: Fun in all those “we can’t be in the same room without everything ratcheting out of control” ways. Ax and Nick clash from the outset, but reading as their enemies-to-lovers played out was immensely entertaining. I’m not even sure they are enemies per se - more that they just don’t get where the other is coming from? And then are just mad at themselves for being attracted to someone that they just don’t get? Whatever it is, the tension is yummy. Bonus points for Mase’s story being held for Mase’s story - cannot wait.

As for the suspense: Everything I love about reading suspense series is in full-force in this one. Without spoilers, I loved how the resolution of Ax’s personal crusade led to more layers for the overarching story, how the guys of Hart Security have such very defined personalities that come together on an op, and how both personal stories and the ongoing story dovetail and get some closure but still have open ends. Read the first before this one, but definitely read both. It’s a series worth the commitment so far.

This is a good fast paced read that will keep you entertained on many levels. I actually liked it in general - it's well written, hot and a good addition to the series. Speaking about the series - if you don't want to get lost you should definitely read book 1. The action and mystery parts are done well although I didn't appreciate the hacking parts - in reality it doesn't work that way - not even close. What I missed was the emotional development between MC's. Instead of delving deeper, their issues were usually resolved with sex. The lack of communication is even more apparent in epilogue - it's happily ever after, don't get me wrong, but I would really appreciate if some issues were dealt in more detail including the fates of some side characters that are important to the story. They were interesting and their story development would add much needed depth to the story. Nevertheless I'm looking forward to the next book in this series - there are so many interesting characters that beg their stories to be told.

This is another excellent book from Rae Marks about a bunch of mostly queer undercover agents who are connected in various ways, primarily military or family. This is gearing up to be one fabulous saga, as they go after child traffickers. This story features Ax and Nick (also known as Dash, revealed late in the story) who hate each other on sight. Many in this book have more than one name, but the author handles it well, and we are not confused. The two are assigned to work together, but before they even get started, they end up having "hate sex." The attraction doesn't go away, and they continue to hook up. Both are carrying family baggage, but Ax's is really horrible. The way these guys go back and forth and finally solve part of the child trafficking problem is the whole story. They have to trust each other on the job, and after a while, they trust in real life.
I received an advance review copy from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Nick Hart has joined both his brothers in working for Hart Consulting. He wants it to bring them closer and maybe get the family back together. The only problem is working with a man who drives him crazy and yet he also turns him on. Nick has completed his training and is about to embark on his first mission. He does not want Ax to ruin his only chance at a good first impression. Ax, though, seems determined to make it very difficult for Nick.

The road to love is never smooth and is particularly difficult while dealing with the case Ax and Nick are working on. People who deal in human trafficking are despicable and it was handled well in this story. Together with their team, they took down some of the major players, but also know that their work is still not done win this area. The plot was incredibly well done and our two heroes were perfect for this job. Ax did almost blow it but he redeem himself in the end. A great love story, Dash will pull on your heart strings.

Opposites attract and can drive each other nuts, too.

I’ve never read anything by Rae Marks and I’m glad I rectified that. This was a cute book, but also fun, too. It’s not a fluff story by any means. The characters get into jams and have to figure out how to get back out again. I liked the suspense in the story and the chemistry between Nick and Ax. The writing flowed well and I got engrossed in the story right away. I had to know what would happen.

The one thing that sort of bugged me was how Nick and Ax tended to snap judge each other and hold onto their negativity. Now, this annoyed me because it’s so human. Other readers might not be bothered with it. It also drove me berserk because I kept thinking, guys, just let it go! But then if they’d have done that, the tension wouldn’t have been so high. So, it worked.

If you’re looking for a story with hot characters, tension and plenty of chemistry, then this might be the book for you.

The series Hart Consulting is totally what I love to read: a mix of crime, military, romance and steamy scenes. Book two is about Nick, the twin of Bray and Ax, a part of Hart Consulting.

Nick is also going to work for Hart Consulting, still trying to get his family together, finding his place in the new job, so he doesn’t need distraction from Ax. Ax has a great burden on his shoulders to take care of and he doesn’t need distraction from Nick. That’s the beginning of a great story which never looses its excitement. I have to admit I started the book in the evening and lost my half night to it to get everything read.

I like that you already get a feeling who will be the next couple in the next book of this series, so the only things missing are the next books in the series.

I had the big luck to receive an ARC.

I found this a interesting enemies to lovers, mystery story. Ax and Nick clash from the beginning. When they are assigned to work together the anger shows up as attraction. The group they have joined are invested in righting wrongs to do with human selling. As it comes to light Ax’s sister has been missing, he is sure she was kidnapped. For three years he has done everything he can to find her. When Nick becomes involved with Ax’s family and finds out about Ax’s sister he steps in to help find her. The interaction between these characters are entertaining and steamy. I’m not sure even at the end they really get along smoothly. I enjoyed the nicknames assigned to these guys. The secondary characters play major parts in this story. I’m hoping these characters get their own story.

I loved this book. Action packed, suspenseful, entertaining and steamy. Hart Consulting has a new mission. This one a bit more personal involving Ax and his sister that was taken three years ago. Once they start investigating they find there it is a lot more involved than just Ax's missing sister. Mick, another member of Hart Consulting, is facing his own demons. His family is torn apart by the actions of his father that his other two brothers cannot get past. Nick is determined to get the family back together. At the center of everything is Nick and Ax's attraction to one another. It would seem Nick and Ax hate each other as they avoid each other at all costs. The steamy attraction does not go away. Can the two get past all the obstacles and find their HEA? Can the team recover Ax's missing sister? I highly recommend.

I absolutely LOVED IT!!!! I loved every single character and how the story progressed. Ax and Nick are perfect for each other, once they realized there was some serious missipressions about each other. We learn so much about Ax that everything now makes sense. This is the perfect combination of action, suspense, romance and humour. I could feel every emotion along with all the characters and enjoyed laughing along with them. The passion between Nick and Ax is HOT & STEAMY!! We also finaly find out what DASH stands for and it was not a dissapointment. You will definately enjoy the read as well as the ride in both books of the HC series. I can not wait to see what happens next. Rae Marks well done on another amazing book.

I sometimes get bored with the enemies to lovers storyline but this one was far from boring. It was intriguing, suspenseful, and romantic--all rolled into one. Nick, has come to work for Hart Brothers, and Ax is assigned to train him. I got to say they both made me want them to be happy. Both have issues, both are not able to get their lives together, but yet there is a fine line between love and hate....these two men prove that. While I enjoyed this book immensely, i do think it helps if you have read book one to get the full impact and flavor of the book. It is a nice blend of covert ops, personal issues, and romance. This is a well written book with complex characters and story. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

Book two of Hart Consulting...Enemies to lovers ❤️🔥❤️ Nick and Ax are sooo yummy together in this action packed, tension filled romance. This was a really good book, it touches on the heavy matter of human trafficking so sensitive readers should keep this in mind, however this was still a humorous, smoldering, family filled story that will suck you right in and not let go!! The author did a fantastic job in the first book building these characters and you cannot help but want to learn more about each and every one of them...these guys are so sexy. I cannot wait for the next book this is a great series, I'm loving it and I cannot recommend these books enough.

Absolutely amazing!

If you’re looking for an office type romance, with ex-military guys, and don’t shy away from darker themes, go grab a copy of Dash!

Nick was sweet, caring, and exactly what Ax needed. I liked that he was uncertain at times, yet tough when the situation called for it.

Ax is gruff and hiding a lot of pain. No matter how hard he fights his attraction to Nick, the younger man gets under his skin. When they finally come together, their relationship is tumultuous and fraught with misunderstandings.

Super steamy scenes. Lots of action and danger. Dash is a perfect blend of romance and suspense.

Nick and Ax are a complicated duo!! Both men are working through personal issues especially Ax. On top of this they are on a very important job assignment involving human trafficking together. From a romantic aspect there is lot of push and pull and misunderstandings. This does give us some delicious angry steamy times with these two though! There is also a lot of concentration the very seriousness of their job as well. Great balance of romance, personal conflicts and plot! The book is nonstop! I received and ARC of this book and I recommend you grab book one first so you can follow the overarching plot, along with all the romances!!

Ax and Nick definitely start out on the wrong foot, they both misinterpret each other a lot in the beginning, (you should read book one, where they first met), which results in some miscommunications making them think that they hate each other. They’re just so attracted, they can’t stay away and their first steamy encounter leads to more. The story is so thrilling, child trafficking and kidnapping, so if those are some of your triggers be aware. I did get the urge to shake Ax a couple of times, but I had to think of his prehistory with his sister and family and if Nick could forgive him, so can I. I highly recommend this and the first book and I look forward to many more.

A good background story. One that stayed interesting but could be a little predictable.

As for the main characters, Ax seemed to have the stronger backstory and personality. Hes had three years of guilt, causing him to act as he does.
Nicks backstory consisted of wanting his family together but not getting why his brother was so hurt. There didnt seem to be much more to him. We werent aware of any specialist skill, or why he was an asset to group.

Taking all that into consideration the underlaying story, previous characters and Ax is enough to recommend this book

I absolutely loved it and was pleased to see that it followed on from Sweet Hart without losing anything. Both books in this series are engaging, full of action, but have a hint of sweetness to them. I love that Ax is a grumpy bum and quite emotive, and that he is tempered so well by Nick. Was great seeing the guys again, and there are definitely some pairings that are being not so subtly hinted at and I can't wait!! This book does include topics which may be triggering for some, so check the warnings.

A somewhat gripping adventure while still an enjoyable romance, as well. The whole team is terrific as we focus on Nick and Ax. If anything that follows from this author is as good as this the count me in. I loved that all loose ends were tied up. Every feeler that was sent out was explained and nothing was left hanging. The story was exciting enough that you felt it in your insides. I was hanging on with bated breath many times, signs of a good book!

Dash packs quite the punch. This fast paced story will hold you in its grip until the very end.
The chemistry between Ax and Nick is epic...these two have a hard time keeping their hands off each other!

Mix that in with all the action and you have a wonderfully exciting book to read.
Of course nothing runs smoothly and these guys will be tested many times.
Together and with the rest of the team they will race against time to achieve their goals.
I am looking forward to the next book in the Hart Consulting series.

Great combination of enemies to lovers and the covert action Hart Consulting specializes in. Nick and Ax make a great combination in the field doing their jobs, it just takes them a while to realize that they could have that amazing personal connection as well - the steamy connection is there immediately. They have to learn how to stop hiding secrets and communicate with each other. Once that happens they can get their HEA. Both books in this series have wonderfully written characters, good action plots and some fun hacking.

This sequel to Sweet Hart was, again, fairly enjoyable. Fans of high heat will probably like it a lot; I found myself skimming past many of the sex scenes. I can't put my finger on why I didn't connect with these MCs as well as I did with the ones in book one. I expect book three will tell me whether this is simply not an author for me or whether this was just a one-off mismatch. 3.5 stars
