Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, PCPA (born Rita Antoinette Rizzo; April 20, 1923 – March 27, 2016), usually known as Mother Angelica, was an American Franciscan nun best known as a television personality and the founder of both the internationally-broadcast cable television network Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) and the radio network WEWN.

In 1981, Mother Angelica started broadcasting religious programs from a converted garage in Birmingham, Alabama. Over the next twenty years, she developed a media network that included radio, TV, and internet channels as well as printed media.

Mother Angelica hosted shows on EWTN until she had a stroke in 2001. She continued to live in the cloistered monastery in Hanceville until her death at age 92 on March 27, 2016, Easter Sunday.

In 2009, Mother Angelica was a recipient of the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Award granted by Pope Benedict XVI for services to the Catholic Church.

I love reading Mother Angelica's books. She had such a clear, no-nonsense way of speaking, and she could also be incredibly profound. Her words and phrasing remind me of my little sister; they just have a similar way of speaking. Her writing comes across just as comfortably as a conversation with a loved one, if that makes sense.

From Page 18: "If you feel angry, for example, or someone has hurt you, and all day long you fault this anger and you want so much not to be angry. Your will does not want to be angry, but inside you, it’s just going around and around and around and around, and you’re just angry — bitter, almost. You don’t want to feel that way. And all the efforts that you have exerted have just been a failure. Well, the next time you have one of those days, you just go somewhere where it’s quiet. Sometimes, you can go out into the woods, where God’s nature is so overwhelming, and you can just be aware of God and His silent, awesome presence. And that silent, awesome presence is His Love, and that Love is always healing. And when you are in great need, if your soul is all disturbed with anger or bitterness or resentfulness or rejection or regrets, whatever it is, you are in need of being healed. And there’s only one thing that can heal you, and that’s Jesus. The only One that can heal you is God. The only One that can effect any kind of change in you is the Spirit — that beautiful Sanctifier Who is your Friend Who lives in your heart."

I've highlighted so many sections, but the quote above really resonated with me. I highly recommended her books. She writes so simply and everything is relatable in one fashion or another. One doesn't need a degree in either theology or philosophy to understand her.
