I was excited to see that Ms. Kappes had a new book out in this series. This was always my favorite series that she pens.

Kenni has her hands full when a server is murdered at a wedding reception that she's attending with Finn and many others from Cottonwood. Being the sheriff isn't always easy when the bride goes crazy when Kenni stops the reception. So many twists, a second plot line that twines throughout the murder mystery, a dramatic reveal and a major life decision for Kenni that will effect her future when the time comes kept me glued to the pages.

It took a while but Kenni Lowry is back in Blowin' Up a Murder by Tonya Kappes. Cottonwood Kentucky is a quiet small town and it shouldn't be any hassle being sheriff there? Right? Well Kenni has her hands full when one of the catering staff is found murdered at a high end wedding. I always get a laugh out of these books and now I have to wait until the next one to see how it goes with the sheriffs. Talk about a cliffhanger.

I loved it! This series is now my favorite of those written by Tonya Kappes. There are scenes that are over-the-top laugh out loud, and a few that are scary. The characters come to life under the expert hand of the author, I love the descriptions of Cottonwood, Kentucky, and the real whodunit surprised me! Never mess with a determined sheriff or a Southern mama!

Kenni is the sheriff of Cottonwood, following in the footsteps of Poppa, her late grandfather. Her mama, who campaigns for her at every opportunity, still thinks it isn’t proper for a Southern woman to be sheriff. She just wants Kenni to get married and give her grandbabies. Finn, her beau and former deputy, is the man Kenni wants to marry, but there are two reasons she hasn’t. First, he hasn’t asked.

The other reason is Poppa. When Kenni became the sheriff, she didn’t know it, but Poppa ghosted the town to prevent serious crimes that could cause her to get hurt. When he can’t stop the murders, he is able to ghost Kenni and the crime scenes. It is the only time she and her dog, Duke, can see and hear and converse with Poppa. She can’t tell anyone about him, and who would even believe her? Poppa told her that if she told Finn about his presence, or if she and Finn were to marry, Poppa couldn’t come around anymore, and she doesn’t know if she could lose him all over again.

Kenni was at a wedding with Finn, Mama and her friends, and much of the town. Tibbie, one of Kenni’s best friends, is the event planner. The reception was underway when a storm blew in. When Tibbie went to shut the doors of the event center, lightning illuminated the body of a waiter lying outside. A dead waiter, with an umbrella sticking out of his chest.

As sheriff, Kenni couldn’t let anyone stomp through the crime scene, so she had to stop the reception. The bridezilla pitched an Oscar-worthy fit, and the smart aleck best man was handcuffed and taken to the holding cell. His attorney is preparing lawsuits against Kenni, the sheriff department, and the county.

Kenni is facing her biggest challenge as sheriff, especially when Mama becomes one of the suspects. I enjoyed Jolee’s delight when she told Kenni about the Laundry Club Ladies book she was reading (from another beloved Tonya Kappes series). Jolee was thrilled to go on a stakeout, just like they do! Kenni tried to find evidence to prove the best man guilty, disprove Mama as suspect, and what was off about the waiter and his widow. After chasing a couple red herrings, I was surprised at the resolution! Kenni even gained the respect of some folks who hadn’t decided yet if they would vote to re-elect her. I highly recommend this fabulous mystery and series to fans of the series, the author, and good Southern cozy mysteries. You do not want to miss this one!

From a thankful heart: I received an advanced reader copy of this novel, and this is my honest review.

Blowin' Up a Murder is Book 8 in the Kenni Lowry series by Tonya Kappes.

This is my FAVORITE series by this author.
This new installment is the first one that has been out in YEARS and I was really happy to return to Cottonwood, Kentucky.

I am so glad the author got the rights back to these books and there will be more in the future.

I love Sherriff Kenni and her ghost poppa that helps assists in investigations.

A perfect southern mystery with a small ghost element.

This would of been 5 stars but the ending with a major cliff hanger was so disappointing.

Blowin’ Up a Murder Earns 5/5 Lightning Strikes…Entertaining Fun!

It’s a lovely wedding, and despite Mama’s not so veiled discussion about her daughter Kenni not getting any younger and the benefits of a spring wedding, it just isn’t the time. Besides Finn hasn’t asked nor have they even discussed that kind of future. Embarrassed by all the wedding talk, Kenni heads off to help her best friend Tibbie Bell who had made this wedding a wonderful event: the atmosphere is magical, the food is delectable, the bride’s mother is very happy, and the exposure in Barnwood Brides Magazine could be a great boost for Tibbie’s wedding planner business. But, things go wrong when the gray clouds float in and thunder and lightning make an entrance, and Sheriff Kenni Lowry is sent into official business mode when a dead waiter is found on the patio skewered with an umbrella.

It’s been three years since last Kenni Lowry and the residents of Cottonwood, Kentucky, had some mischief to manage, and gratefully this eighth book has Kenni and Finn are still doing the dating dance, Mama is her pushy self, and Poppa, her ghostly grandfather, is back in rare form as Sheriff Kenni’s unofficial sidekick. Southernisms are a key feature in Tonya’s work with idioms and phrases illustrating mores and manners. The murder mystery is another engaging drama with plenty of overheard comments, an AWOL best man, and a bridezilla throwing her bouquet at Kenni when the reception is halted. Forensics and background checks reveal surprising details about the victim and the wedding party making issues more sinister, and key figures are suspiciously secretive and uncooperative when several interesting connections point to motive. But, it gets intense when along with a lawsuit and another victim is found, Kenni’s mama is implicated as an alibi, a witness, or maybe a suspect. At the least, she’s a thorn in Kenni’s side when she and her friend Viola go beyond community involvement. The paranormal element with Kenni’s late grandfather popping in as support is a delightful dynamic. It’s not a bunch of juvenile hocus-pocus, just an entertaining technique to uncover clues and trip up suspects, but it does cause some serious soul-searching. Big favorite! Glad Kenni’s back!

Disclosure: I received an ARC from the author. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

“Blowin’ Up a Murder” by Tonya Kappes the 8th book in her Kenni Lowry Mystery series starring Sheriff Kenni Lowry. I am so glad the author got her rights back to these books and that there will be more in the future. I must admit I am only just started this series, in reverse I must add and it definitely can be read as a stand-alone. I do recommend you start at the beginning though.

Love and marriage go together like grits and gravy...or do they?

There’s a big wedding happening in Cottonwood seems like the whole town was invited but then Murder strikes while a storm rages overhead. While the investigation into the murder is happening everyone seems upset with Kenni for stopping the reception but she had to do her JOB!

I love Sheriff Kenni and her ghost Poppa that helps assist in the investigations and hope we see more of him.

There were lots of suspects as well as twists to keep us entertained and guessing. I had no idea who the killer was until Violet did! Also there were a couple of surprises and I can’t wait for the next instalment!

I highly recommend this book to all my cozy loving friends

Sheriff Kenni Lowry is back in this eighth book of the Kenni Lowry Mystery series by author Tonya Kappes. Although this is the latest book in Tonya’s recently re-released series, you won’t be lost if you start with this one. I always recommend reading from the beginning but I had no trouble picking up where it left off. When the book opens, Kenni is attending a wedding with family and friends when a storm blows in during the reception. With the next bolt of lightning revealing a body, Kenni and her team are right there taking control of the situation. Although many of the attendees are not happy with inconvenience of the abrupt end of the reception, especially the bride, Kenni was able to secure scene and start interviewing the guests.

I’ve looked forward to this newest book; Kenni is a strong protagonist with a cast of secondary characters that are just as engaging. Several suspects, clues, and red herrings are readily available throughout the story. There is a slight paranormal aspect to this series, as only Kenni can see and speak to her grandfather, a previous sheriff to the town of Cottonwood, Kentucky. I found this part of the story endearing, as I read the interaction between Kenni and her grandfather. He is someone that helps look after her and point her in the right direction for clues. Tonya is great at telling stories that involve small towns you would want to visit, together with a strong sense of family and community. I look forward to additional books in this series!

I requested and received an advanced copy of this book; all thoughts are entirely my own.

It is so good to be able to visit Cottonwood again!! Reading this book was like getting together with old friends after way too long apart. Dealing with two murders, as well as her mother's constant shoves toward marrying Finn, Sheriff Kenni Lowry is having a rough week. There's lots of southern humor throughout the book, and the murder mystery left me guessing all the way to the final reveal. The cliffhanger at the end has me waiting anxiously for the next book in the series. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Kenni is attending a wedding that Cottonwood Who’s Who are in attendance.
While trying to enjoy the reception and avoid her mother making plans for Kenni and Finn’s wedding when they are not even engaged, Kenni notices the absence of the best man when it’s time for his speech. A storm blows in and the lights go out, so when the lightning lights up the sky Kenni’s eyes are drawn to the dead body just outside. Kenni has to find the murder before the wedding party leaves town.

It’s been a few years since the last Kenni Lowery book, so I was so excited to visit Cottonwood again. I wasn’t disappointed. Kenni is still a great Sheriff, her mom is still a strong Southern Momma, and her Grandpa’s ghost is still around to help Kenni solve murders. The mystery is full of surprises, I was completely surprised by who the murderer was and why. I recommend the book to anyone that loves southern mysteries.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

Everyone who is anybody is attending the wedding in Normal, Kentucky. It is the wedding of the year there, until the body of a server is found outside with a custom umbrella shoved through him. This causes all kinds of mayhem, but it might even cause Kenni to lose her job as sheriff! This story was like going home to my old hometown, where rumors fly faster than true words. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is my favorite of the series so far. Kenni's mom is completely over the top in this one, which leads to hilarious results (but not for Kenni). The mystery was well paced and though I figured out who the killer was early on, it did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. The ending leaves you with unanswered questions so I am eagerly anticipating the next one.

Kenni Lowry is attending a wedding with her beau, Finn. Her mother is in attendance as well with her gossip buddies. Kenni’s mother is taking advantage of the circumstances to comment on what she plans for Kenni’s wedding ignoring the fact that Kenni is not engaged. At the reception, the wedding party are giving their speeches to the happy couple. When it comes time for the best man, he fails to appear. A flash of lighting illuminates the patio and Kenni sees a man on the ground with one of the wedding umbrellas protruding from his body. The only umbrella missing belongs to the best man. Kenni doubts the case is as simple as it appears. Much to the bride’s outrage, Kenni shuts down the reception so everyone can be questioned. With help from Poppa, Kenni’s deceased grandfather, Kenni sets out to catch the killer. Blowin’ Up a Murder by Tonya Kappes is the eighth A Kenni Lowry Mystery. It can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series. If you read the whole series, it will allow you to get to know the characters and their storylines. The story has quirky characters that suit the southern town of Cottonwood. Humor abounds in this cozy mystery thanks to Kenni’s mother. She is determined to push Kenni towards the altar as quickly as possible. She is not going to let the matter of no fiancé stand in her way. I love Poppa. He is a delight and provides several laugh out loud moments. He also gives some helpful advice to Kenni regarding the murder case and her life. The whodunit is a fun one to solve. The wedding party and their attorney were determined to give Kenni a challenging time. The case was even more challenging thanks to Kenni’s mother and her friend. They decided to do a little snooping on their own. You just know that it is going to cause more problems for Kenni. There is a large pool of suspects and good clues. We are left with a cliffhanger at the end of the book. We will have to wait for Heavens to Bribery to find out it turns out. Blowin’ Up A Murder is a lighthearted Southern cozy mystery that will have you laughing from beginning to end. Blowin’ Up A Murder is a witty whodunit with a domineering mama, a bouquet bashing bridezilla, a spectral Poppa, a slew waiter, rampant rumors, a malicious lawyer, and a curious cliffhanger.

I received this ARC from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Welcome to the little town of Cottonwood, Kentucky, a charming town with fun business names like Tiny Tina’s Hair Salon and Cowboy’s Catfish. The sheriff is Kenni Lowry, and trust me her mother does not approve of her career choice. The local sheriff’s office shares space at the rear of Cowboy’s Catfish! The southern sass and humor will have you laughing out loud. Sheriff Lowry becomes public enemy number one when she shuts down a wedding reception when one of the catering waiters ends up dead impaled with a wedding umbrella. The bride is not happy and proceeds to beat Sheriff Lowry with her bridal bouquet! The first suspect seems to be a good choice, but in true Tonya Kappes’ fashion, she will throw you for a loop.

This was such a fun mystery to read. The characters are a real hoot including Mama and her Henny Hens! The story was good and the mystery portion was very interesting as things are not always as they seem.

Kenni appears to be a little averse to marriage much to her mother’s chagrin. Finn is her boyfriend and the romance is building in this story. She also receives “help” from her ghostly grandfather. His antics were hilarious! This is a fun, clean mystery that you will thoroughly enjoy.

I felt like I was "home" when I read Blowin' Up A Murder, book 8 in the Kenni Lowry Mystery series with characters who could be my friends (maybe my kin), great small town southern charm, a page-turning mystery with the ghost of Poppa along to help Kenni find out whodunit, laugh out loud moments and a touch of romance. Cottonwood, Kentucky is a great town, except when someone is murdered. The Sheriff and bride get into it as she shuts down the wedding reception due to a murdered worker. The Bride is understandably not happy and makes her opinion known. Fortunately Kenni and Poppa are able to start figuring out what happened right away. Great fun and lots of twists.

I received a copy to read, the review is mine.

Synopsis:

Love and marriage go together like grits and gravy...or do they?

Welcome to the little town of Cottonwood, Kentucky, a charming town with fun business names like Tiny Tina’s Hair Salon and Cowboy’s Catfish.

Sheriff Lowry becomes public enemy number one when she shuts down a wedding reception when one of the catering waiters ends up dead impaled with a wedding umbrella. The bride is not happy and proceeds to beat Sheriff Lowry with her bridal bouquet!

Kenni and Poppa are on the case! How lucky that Kenni is already there to start her investigation! She’s got a bratty bride, a crass groomsman and dead waiter! If the murder at the wedding was not enough, she’s got to get to solve this so that her friends business isn’t ruined! (Amazon)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Kenni and Poppa have a special relationship that even death cannot ruin. Kenni has her hands full when a waiter is killed at a wedding reception. The bride and her parents are not happy that Kenni ruined the reception. And her own momma is a suspect. It is a good thing that Poppa is there to help her.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and it pulled me into the story right from the start. She is also quite good at telling a southern tale, which I am very happy about. The mystery is well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider.

I cannot tell you how happy I was to get to spend time with Kenni and Poppa. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy mystery. I cannot wait for the next one.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.

Kenni, along with her boyfriend Finn and her Mama are attending a wedding and just about everybody is there. The reception is being held in a converted barn that is being used for big events but hosting a real life murder isn't supposed to be part of the festivities. The weather has turned blustery and rain is on the way. That's bad enough but before the meal is served one of the waiters is found on the back patio, skewered with an umbrella that had been given to each member of the wedding party. Cue the ballistic bride as she attacks Kenni. How dare Kenni call a halt to her reception! As sheriff of Cottonwood Kenni takes control of the crime scene and starts getting comments and advice from her Poppa - the ghost deputy who was the former sheriff. He only appears to Kenni and her dog, Duke when there is a murder to solve.
Turns out this case isn't going to be open and shut. Now Kenni has to sort through the list of possible suspects while fending off her Mama's constant remarks about Kenni and Finn and their own trip down the aisle. It won't happen anytime soon - Finn hasn't popped the question and Poppa says he'll vanish is she says "I do". What's a small town sheriff to do? Catch the killer, of course.
Time spent in the towns of Cottonwood and Normal, KY is always a treat. The recurring cast of characters are like old friends, the humor is laugh out loud funny and the mystery keeps you guessing.
My thanks to Tonya Kappes for allowing me to read an advance copy.

Blowin' Up A Murder is book 8 in the Kenni Lowry Mystery series by Tonya Kappes. I haven't read the previous books in the series and I feel that put me at a little disadvantage. Because of that, I am not familiar with the characters and the back stories to each one.

Kenni, the sheriff of Cottonwood, is at a wedding when someone is murdered. She becomes very unpopular when she halts the wedding festivities because it is now a crime scene. Eventually another murder occurs and she is now investigating two murders. Throughout the investigation, her dead Poppa keeps popping up to "assist" her and her mother is throwing out hints that it is time for Kenni to marry her boyfriend Finn.

The story was well-written in keeping you guessing as to who the murderer was. I had a tough time with some of the characters not letting Kenni knows things that would have helped her in her investigation. Aren't these people supposed to be her friends? Also, why is Kenni even hemming and hawing about Poppa versus Finn? Finn is real and Poppa is a ghost. Why is Poppa being selfish and not encouraging her to marry Finn? He had his life and it is time for him to move on. Clearly I need to read the previous stories to find out why Poppa has to disappear should she marry Finn.

Even though I have issues with some of the characters because I am not familiar with them, it was a really enjoyable story. I will definitely read the previous ones to learn more about the characters and their development. I will definitely read the next one in this series, especially since Ms. Kappes ended it this one on a cliffhanger!

I was able to read this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Ms. Kappes, for the opportunity to do this.

This is the eighth in the series. We learn more about Poppa and his relationship with Kenni since he passed over.
I found this interesting and leads to a few surprises in the book.

Kenni Lowry is the sheriff and is attending a wedding that many local government personnel were invited to. At the reception there is a murder. Needless to say, the reception is halted to the ire of the bride and Kenni’s mother.
She believes Kenni is causing a scene & embarrassment to their family.

There is humor mixed into the seriousness of the murder. I thought the motive for the murder was well-plotted.
Ms. Kappes has a way with words and lets you feel the conflicts in emotion of the characters. I can only hope That, Finn, Poppa, and Kenni can make it out the other side without a lot of heartbreak.

There are some surprises but the killer wasn’t one of them for me. I cannot wait for the next installment to see what happens in the Kenni’s office dynamics, Finn & Kenni, and Poppa and Kenni.

I was given an advanced copy and am not required to provide a positive review.

In Cottonwood, Kentucky there are three things that one never misses. A wedding, having a baby, and a funeral. It just so happened that there was a wedding taking place and everyone was in attendance, including Sheriff Kendrick (Kenni) Lowry where Kenni's mama and the Henny Hens kept dropping hints about how Kenni and Finn should get hitched.

Tibbi, Kenni's friend, was the event planner for the reception. Tibbi has a shot at being featured in a well-known magazine for brides.

Just as the reception got underway, the weather took a turn for the worst, causing Tibbi to rush to close the doors but not before lightning showcases a body. The next thing, Kenni hears is her dead Poppa, Tug Lowry, who only appears when there's a murder.

Now the reception has been halted and all the guests are detained. Kenni has a killer to catch!

I enjoyed being back in Cottonwood, where Kenni with her Poppa's help, solve crimes. Who couldn't use a ghost deputy that can go sight unseen and eavesdrop on conversations?

I received a complimentary copy and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.

This was my first Kenni Lowry mystery and I loved every page of it! As a Tonya Kappes fan, I wasn't surprised by the southern wit, quirky characters, page-turning plot and imaginative story. I enjoyed the intricacy of the mystery itself (I didn't figure it out until the killer was revealed). Kappes is the Queen of Red Herrings and had me guessing until the very end.

If you enjoy Kenni Lowry mysteries, you will love this one, which begins during the reception of a big, hoity-toity wedding -- perfect for an enjoyable, quick May read!

Sheriff Lowry hates that she has to cease a wedding reception from continuing but when a.death occurs there really isn't much else you can do. A waiter was killed with a wedding umbrella and for Kenni that means finding a killer. She knows she must figure out who the killer is and quickly but the list of suspects makes it all harder. A bridezilla who only cares about herself and a groom who is as rude as they come has Kenni wishing for strength to get through it all. Follow along as Kenni tries to put all the pieces together in hopes of catching a killer. I adore this series with all its southernisms which definitely take you on a trip to the south.

Another fun whodunit set in Cottonwood. Sheriff Kenni Lowry has people all riled up when she shuts down the wedding reception of the mayor’s daughter due to a murder and won’t let the guests or attendants leave town. She’s being threatened with her job, her mama is interfering (while still trying to get Kenni married off), the list of suspects keeps growing, then the top suspect ends up dead. Kenni’s thoughts wander between the crime, her love for Finn, and her love for her Poppa, who may be deceased but still shows up to help her solve murders. How is she going to get all of this sorted out?

I dislike cliffhangers but love this series and the main characters so I will keep reading.

It was great to be back in Cottonwood, Kentucky with Sheriff Kenni Lowry and Deputy Finn Vincent attempting to solve two murders. I especially like Poppa, the ghost of Kenni's grandpa. He was Sheriff before Kenni and helps her with her cases. There's a secret about their collaboration that I won't mention. I don't want to ruin it for you! I wasn't sure I would really like the paranormal aspects of the story and series. But the author is so talented that she put in the "just right" amount of it. Poppa also provides lots of laughs. This is a well written, humorous adventure that keeps you guessing about who the murderer is until the end. It has a cliffhanger that will make you want the next book to be here now! I received an ARC and voluntarily reviewed it.
