Честно говоря ожидал большего, в целом на 3,5. В детстве зачитывался книгами Пикуля, но в этот раз впечатления очень средние. Не готов рекомендовать кому-нибудь данную книгу.

В целом, книга мне показалась достаточно скучной. Хотя местами чувствовалась рука будущего мастера. Не стоит забывать, что это первый роман Пикуля, в основном ставший его пробой пера.

A truely heroic story about the dramatic defense of the Russian-Armenian troop against superior-numbered Turkish army within fortified walls of Bayazet city during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878.
In recent years, Hollywood directors have filmed a lot of commercial pseudohistorical junk, such as Troy, Gladiator, Alexander, 300... Nobody wants to screen the really heroic stories of bloody conflicts between Eastern Europe/Russia/Caucasus and vast Ottoman Empire: say, Battle of Vienna in 1683, numerous Cossack-Turkish battles, The Forty Days of Musa Dagh, The Defence of Bayazet, etc, etc... Maybe 'cause this topics are politically controversial, or maybe there are concerns about their comprehension by Western societies... I don't know. Two advanced historical fiction directors - Edward Zwick and Mel Gibson, are my last hope.
