With a legend for a grandfather, it is hard to live up to not only men’s expectations but also those of the king. Sir Samuel of Stockton is a great knight but any chance of peace in his life ends when King Henry and his sons begin to squabble and bicker about the future of England, Normandy and Aquitaine. He either supports the king or the next king. How does a knight keep his honour in such circumstances? When King Philip of France also uses the discord to foster dissension then Sir Samuel must emulate the Warlord and defend a king and a country whilst keeping his home safe. The story moves from the borders with Scotland to the heart of France and thence to Sicily, Cyprus and the Holy Land in a fitting finale to the Anarchy series.
I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
I’ve read this whole series over a few months and it’s been great. Don’t know how you remember all the names Griff but a mighty feat. Great historical adventure so well written. But it can’t end like this. I knew at the end about the hero but what if his son. These characters were given life through the generations.
Griff Hosker has that happy knack of turning a good story into a great story and this yarn is no exception. We are led to love his hero and loath the villains. A well put together story definitely worth the read.
Hosker fills the gap between the Anarchy and Sword for hire. He sets the stage for Air Thomas' return to Stockton and adventures in Sweden. Unfortunately he makes all tidy, killing off people in droves. Where will the saga of bloody British history lead next?
Sadly the last of the series. You can guess what happens to the main character, Sir Samuel. Although if you have the " Border Knight "series about his son Tom you what happened. This one of my favorite authors.
Well I guess it had to end sometime! A good read Griff as always.it's just a shame when you get into a series so much you don't want it to end Well done as always
I have to admit that this novel ended with a surprise. It could have ended on a happier note, I suppose, but it did need to be wrapped up. Much like Andrew Wareham, Mr Hosker is very long on story, sometimes painfully short, when it comes to wrapping the story up. He tends to cut the loose ends rather than tying them off neatly.
