When an injured woman arrives on his snowy farm threatening his life, Kramer is less happy with her intrusion than he is with her pointing a gun to his face and demanding his help.
Danica is determined to shut Kramer out of her troubles, until his quiet strength and unconditional concern make her almost forget why she’s seeking refuge.
Despite Kramer’s concern with Danica’s inexplicable presence on his farm and Danica’s misgivings about her future, the pair begin to form an attachment.
Will the magic of Christmas help Danica gain the courage to confide in Kramer and finally face the injustice which led her to him?
When Niomie Roland isn't dreaming up sexy heroes and feisty heroines, she can be found in her kitchen cooking a concoction for her husband (that she won't eat herself), shopping online or watching YouTube videos.
3.5⭐️ I was pleasantly surprised when I readHer Christmas Refuge. It incorporates enough romance, suspense and a few unexpected twists to elevate it from a mundane isolated “cabin romance” to a more distinguishable and intriguing romantic suspense story. The book focuses on Kramer and Danica, both of whom are sympathetic characters with very appealing qualities.
Kramer:As a result of serving three tours of duty in the army, Kramer suffers from PTSD. In particular, he suffers from nightmares and experiences flashbacks, not to mention his inability to successfully adjust to civilian life. For this reason, Kramer has moved to a remote, rural farm of nearly seventy acres of farmland. He finds great solace in working the land, caring for the animals, and restoring the old homestead. Here, away from other people, including family and friends, Kramer finds some semblance of peace and tranquility that had eluded him while living in more populated environs.
Danica:Danica stumbles onto Kramer’s isolated farm seeking help. Obviously, she’s running from something. But what? Danica is astonished to find that she’s near Boise, Idaho, when her last recollection is that she hails from her hometown of Seattle, Washington. Danica doesn’t know who to trust. She wakes up with a gun in her hand, on the side of the road in the middle of a snow storm, bleeding from her shoulder and ill-equipped to trudge through the windy, icy, blizzard conditions with no lights and nothing in sight. She is scared out of her mind.
Subsequently, Kramer nurses Danica back to health, and in the weeks that follow, while they are snowed-in with no TV or cell-phone reception, Kramer and Danica forge a friendship that becomes stronger over time. Kramer knows that Danica is withholding pertinent information about her situation, but believes she will divulge the information when she’s ready. Danica wants to tell Kramer the truth, but she fears she will go to jail for a crime she didn’t commit. Nevertheless, they finally cannot deny that they've developed romantic feelings for each other. These facts encapsulate some of the salient points in the story, but I won’t divulge more—spoiler territory!
In conclusion, this quasi-suspenseful cabin romance is very enjoyable and kept me fully engaged. That being so, I became fully invested in the burgeoning relationship between Kramer and Danica and the eventual outcome of the story.
Danica thought she was being a good friend when she warned her friend about the man she was seeing being married. Instead she found herself confused, far from home and with a farmer she couldn't trust. Although this is listed as a Christmas story, its more of a bad weather winter story that happened during the holiday season. Kramer has issues of his own but his gentle nature is just what Danica needs.
Her Christmas Refuge is a fascinating interracial holiday romance by Niomie Roland. In this holiday romance, readers meet Danica and Kramer. Danica is injured and fleeing for her life after witnessing her best friend, Latisha, shoot and kill the wife of her boyfriend. Latisha forces Danica to drive her away from the scene and then she shoots Danica and leaves her on a deserted road in the middle of a snowstorm. Danica makes it to Kramer’s farm. He helps her. She has trust issues due to her recent experience with Latisha. There is an attraction between Danica and Kramer. Can Kramer get Danica to trust him? Will they act on their attraction? You must read this book to find out.
I enjoyed Ms. Roland’s holiday romance. I love the way she adds suspense through a best friend’s betrayal and attempts to frame Danica for the murder. I enjoyed her skill with dialog, POV and descriptive language. Her characters, both primary and secondary were well constructed. Even her antagonist was well constructed making it easy to dislike her. Well done, Ms. Roland.
Wow! What a great, well-written book and another GREAT book by Niomie Roland. Absolutely on the edge of my seat and couldn’t believe how perfectly Latisha had framed Danica, down to the gun registered in her name and Danica’s car driven away from the scene. Hopefully there are cameras to show who was driving the car since Tish obviously dropped Danica off and shot her, thinking she was dead. But out of the mouth of a child, Monty’s daughter, and a cell phone video, the truth has come to light. Latisha is going to prison for the rest of her life, without visitors, since she has no friends now. And Kramer, Danica and their baby boy will live HEA on the sheep farm!
I disliked how they met, but we they finally got together it was great. This book really held my interest it made me laugh it made me cry such a good reading. Recommend highly
This story had a really nice holiday feel to it. I enjoyed it Even though Danica kind of got on my nerves demanding so much from him but had her own secrets. But all in all a pretty good job
This was good Christmas mystery romance story. There was jealousy, betrayal, murder, and love found. It's not everyday a person finds their true love in the midst of a storm. Nice easy read.
I want to write a lot but i think ive lost braincells...
Good idea at the start. But as soon as the plot reveal on why Danica is untrusting comes out, the story gets weird. Would have been a better story if they were split into 2. 1 story about a man helping an injured woman get through a holiday storm and 2 a story about a man and woman again the odds. The 2nd halfs not a Christmas story at all. Too fast. Underdeveloped. The end seems made up on the spot. Would not recommend. Dont waste $3
Okay....its a lil over the top with the sappiness...Kramer is just too good to be true! But he is soooo wonderful I can over look that. Good suspense with that sociopathic friend of Danicas' as it put the spice needed to cut some of that sugar. Fast tidy and fully circled. Enjoy!
I really enjoyed reading Kramer and Danica' story. This was a short and sweet story, and I would absolutely recommend reading this book. This is my first time reading this author's work and will definitely read more of her books. Great job Ms. Roland and thank you for writing these wonderful stories. 🙏👍❤
This was such a wonderful story. It told a complete story in not so many words. I got mad at people for disturbing me while reading this book. I was waiting for the big skips........none came. I love this book. This is a reread.
A good read, loved the characters. A lovely story for the season. Nice storytelling, I read in one sitting. Full characters, would have liked more details about both main characters but overall a good read.
