The Long Way Home #2

Yours to Be Forgotten

Rate this book
One of us regrets, the other one forgets.

After a warehouse explosion wipes his memory of me, all I see is a chance for redemption. I broke Ashton's heart two years ago when I chose my career over his warm embrace. And now I'm the only person who can help him find his memories.

But reliving those moments is far from easy. Every step I take in Devil's Lake is a reminder of the biggest mistake I've ever made. And the man walking with me has no clue who I am. He has no clue how much he once loved me.

He looks at me with the same wonder and awe like the first time we met, but we're racing down the opposite tracks.

If I'm successful, he might just remember me. And when he does, he'll hate me just like I deserve.

Yours To Be Forgotten is the second book in The Long Way Home trilogy and should be read after Yours To Be Forgiven. Next and final book, Yours To Be Protected, brings this tale to an end in April.

You can see from my review of the first book, that I wasn't a big fan, mainly because I disliked both the main characters especially Max, but the parts with his injured brother intrigued me, and I'm a sucker for the amnesia storyline so I decided to give the author another chance and see how we went. If this one didn't work, then the author and I were just not suited. Luckily for me I enjoyed it. Both the Mc's were actually likeable this time and that made a pleasant reading experience.

I know Logan's set up as the bad guy who left Ash to pursue his career in New York, but I didn't find that as a bad thing. Couples break up for numerous reasons and him chasing his dreams is not one I find unforgivable. Ash didn't even really blame him. The way he treated Ash when he came back was more telling to me. He did everything he could to help Ash remember, and gave him firsthand accounts of experiences they had had in the past, all the while knowing that Ash was likely to boot him to the curb the moment he regained his memories. He worked continually to find out exactly what happened in the fire when everyone else just let it settle. I would have liked a little new on the outcome of that investigation.

I really liked Ash and his personality. He was so calm and accepting. Even knowing he couldn't remember his life he never had a temper tantrum or felt sorry for himself he just got on with life, treated everything as a clean slate and a new experience and moved on. His understanding of his feelings, especially his knowing instinctively that there was a connection between him and Logan was well done.

I'm actually now looking forward to the third book in the series

I was intrigued by the mysterious circumstances of the story, but both MCs were too flat for me. The storyline between them was old and didn’t really make sense. Ill will between them had been forgiven, but when brought up again, all was lost.

I very much enjoyed the first Long Way Home book, so I knew I had to read this one when I got the chance. I went in with a bit of apprehension. On one hand, I love Second Chance Romance. On the other hand, I wasn't quite so sure how the author would handle the amnesia trope or how I would enjoy the amnesia trope.

I am pleased to announce that my apprehension was washed away quickly and that this book exceeded all expectation. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I enjoyed the first one.

Yours to Be Forgotten takes its time. It introduces each of the characters before bringing them together at least a quarter of the way through. You learn about what their current life is and get glimpses of who they were when they were together. It builds a strong foundation not only for when they come back together, but when they build going forward. It also gives you a sense as to why Logan doesn't feel like he could go back, even to help Ashton regain his memories.

Now while the story was deep and had a compelling mystery (what actually happened the night of the fire?), there were a few things I didn't like. I felt a little weird about them reconnecting in a physical manner while Logan was refusing to tell Ash what happened between them. If Ash had claimed he didn't want to know, that would be one thing, but the refusal to tell him combined with the physical intimacy squicked me out a little.

That said, I still loved this book. I couldn't put it down and powered through it quickly. I'm eager for book three and cannot wait to find out how Yours to be Protected furthers the story of Max, Ashton, and whoever else comes into play.

* Sexy Firefighter
* Mysteries to be Solved
* Second Chances

This series is deep and slightly brooding (or maybe intense is a better word) and the author is really good at writing a contrast of lovely characters and unlikeable characters (though they are more likable by the end). There is of course a satisfying happy ending. And you will definitely enjoy some very steamy scenes along the way.

I do think I enjoyed this one a bit more than the first. The story flowed more and I liked the dynamic of these characters more. But really how could you not want things to work out for Ashton, the kind, sexy firefighter!

Yours to be Forgotten is the second book in the ‘The Long Way Home’ Series. The series should be read in order as there is an underlying story that connects them, though the main characters are different in each. I look forward to reading the next in the series (I need to know who the storyline plays out!!).

This was such a deep and intense story! I loved every minute of it. What’s not to love about a sexy firefighter, mystery and a beautiful hard fought second chance? It was amazing from start to finish! Ashton and Logan were such a beautiful couple. They fought for each other and never gave up. Logan broke Ashton’s heart when they were younger and Logan fought every step of the way for that second chance. When Ashton is in a workplace accident and loses his memory Logan comes back to try to help bring it back. Every step of the way Logan is reminded of the biggest mistake of his life and all he wants is to fix things with Ashton so they can have their second chance. This was a truly beautiful story and I loved it who very much!

The beginning of this story broke my heart, but thankfully the characters put it back together again.

I went into this book knowing nothing except that there was a firefighter and a reporter. So obviously I hadn’t read the book before, but it meant I had no expectations. Seeing both men’s pov on the memories of the breakup was beautiful and sad. Getting to see them both grow and fall back into love was sweet. I enjoyed the subplot of amnesia, long lost brother, and what happened in the fire, though it wasn’t gripping on its own.

The passion between these characters and the sweetness of the rekindled romance was hot. I did take issue with them literally never using lube. Still hot. Bit too much telling for me, so 4 stars.

Ash and Logan have so much more to lose that Ash’s memories. Logan made the mistake of leaving the love of his life for his dream job. Now, Ash doesn’t remember him. This is one helluva live story. It has a bit of suspense, a very loyal brother, and two soulmates who just need to man up. It’s totally endearing.

Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 2 in the Long Way Home trilogy, and I STRONGLY recommend you read book one, Yours To Be Forgiven, before this one. There is an on going story arc that is not yet fully resolved, nor is it fully recapped here. Also, it will give you a better picture of the grumpy git that Max was, and just how much Ethan has changed him.

Ashton suffers an accident at work and loses his memory. Logan returns to Devil's Lake to try to help him, but all Logan can see is, when Ash remembers, he'll hate him all over again.

I saiid in my review for Forgiven, that I wasn't sure how I felt about that book, and THIS book has evoked a similar reaction! So I'll just list what I liked about it. And maybe what I didn't!

I liked that Ash and Logan both have a say. I loved that Logan had been regretting his leaving Ash from almost that first day. But as much as it pains him to know that once Ash remembers, Ash will hate him, Logan can't stay away and needs to help Ash. He needs to make amends, if only Ash will let him.

I loved that Max and Ethan play a part. Max is the one who finds Logan and brings him to Ash. Max found Ash, his brother, after so long and their reunion was a bit of a wet fish, given that Ash can't remember ANYTHING!

Loved the frosty reception Logan gets from Ash's friends. It was to be expected, really, but nice to know that Ash has people supporting him.

I loved the way that things were resolved between Ash and Logan. I'm not going to go into details, cos spoilers and all that, but I was surprised how it all worked out.

Loved that the case Max has been working on comes to the centre of attention, but not til near the end. I think there is more to come on that front.

My only niggle, and it really is a niggle, is I wanted to hear from Max when he comes face to face with Ash for the first time, and then again when Ash remembers. Because Ash does remember, and he remembers the little boy Max was. He also remembers someone else, and I reckon they will be the focus of the next book. I looked and looked for a hint but that's the only thing I can find!

4 good solid stars.

Yours to be Forgotten is the second book of The Long Way Home series by Hayden Hall.
I definitely recommend reading the series in order.

Ashton and Logan were in a relationship for a long time. But when Logan decides to leave Ashton and moves to New York to follow his dream of becoming a journalist, he breaks Ashton's heart.
2 years after, Ashton is in a workplace accident that leaves him in a coma for one month and with no memory.
To help Ashton, his brother begs Logan to come back and help Ashton restore his memory. But Logan's guilt over breaking Ashton's heart prevents him to do so until he finally agrees.
But with every step in the recovery, Logan gets reminded of the biggest mistake he made. But can he and Ashton recover what they once had?

I liked this book. It had some really good parts:
1. The story. We have a couple that had already been together and broke up. But due to the memory loss of one character, they had to get to know each other again. I really loved this dynamic.
2. The characters: I really liked Ashton. How he handled the whole memory loss really impressed me.

But there were also parts that didn't work for me:
1. For someone who lived his whole life in that small town and is so liked by the whole town, Ashton has really little support to regain his memories. I would have expected more people to try to help, so that felt a little bit weird for me.
2. Logan: I just didn't get the motivation behind this character. Either he is really selfish or I just didn't understand him at all.

But nevertheless, I really liked the dynamic between the characters and the storyline. Especially seeing and reading about Max again was a higlight.
I am really looking forward to the last book of this series and the underlying story throughout the series.

Story: 3.5 Stars

There's a whole lot of feels packed into this relatively short book, and Ashton slowly regaining consciousness in the hospital and initially grappling with his amnesia were especially gripping.

Firefighter Ashton has never healed from having his heart ripped out two years ago when boyfriend Logan left him to pursue his career dreams. Logan, meanwhile, has been plagued by doubts that he'd made a mistake, and both have struggled to move on.

Ash is endearing and his individual journey back to himself is compelling. I'd honestly forgotten about the overarching series storyline involving Ash and his brother Max (Book 1 MC) until Max showed up here, and it added another emotional layer to this story.

Logan is basically guilt-tripped back into his ex-boyfriend's life in an attempt to help Ash regain his memories. Logan's working through a ton of inner turmoil, self-doubt and guilt, and, in all honesty, I found his continued self-recrimination a bit exhausting. His reconnecting with Ash moves tentatively and while I was rooting for their reconciliation, Logan deliberately withholding the reason for their breakup from vulnerable Ash left a sour taste for me.

This story works as a standalone to some degree but I'd recommend reading Book 1 first since Max's backstory and renewed brotherly connection with Ash is a focal point here and will carryover into the next book in this series. I received an advance reading e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily. (Also read in KU.)

Second chance romances can be so bittersweet. That is certainly the case for Logan and Ashton. Add in an erased memory and you have additional complexity.

We knew Ashton was still suffering a broken heart at the time of losing his memory. He was left behind as Logan followed his dreams. I felt for Ash and wanted so much for him.
Logan was suffering disillusionment due to his unfulfilled career move to New York. It took me a long while to trust Logan. He was guilted into returning to Devil Lake and fell by default as Ashton’s helper.

There is renewed passion between Logan and Ashton. But also remaining questions whether Logan would choose Ash if he had a better offer in New York? Would Ashton forgive Logan for breaking his heart if he remembers? Those questions do come full circle to a very emotional and satisfying conclusion.

The reconnection of these guys and mystery behind the fire made this a great read. I like Hayden Hall’s work. In this series, he keeps it real with imperfect men and tough situations with no easy answers. I’ve enjoyed both books in series… and I look forward to Yours to Protect.

This is a beautiful story about true love concurring all! Destiny has stepped in here! Logan had made the decision to pursue his career and leave Ash his boyfriend behind. He was sad and regretted it, but he really broke Ash's heart to pieces. I was pleased with the shorter timeline for their second chance. It is two years later Ash our sweet firefighter loses his memory. Logan comes back to hopefully help Ash with his memories. I loved the way the story slowly unfolded, and things felt realistically awkward yet still familiar between them. Ash was such a sweet guy and you just wanted him to heal and get Logan back even though you will be mad at Logan at first! Ash does not remember Logan but he just deep-down feels drawn to him. I do not want to give too much away as the journey of these two re discovering each other is beautiful and has some really sweet and steamy encounters!! Told in both POV I was able to get all the emotions and feels between them. I received an ARC, and you can totally read this as a standalone romance, but I am going back now to read Max and Ethan's story and looking forward to the next in the series!

Sometimes, do-overs are good. Ash, was a firefighter. He was coming up on the anniversary when his boyfriend, Logan just up and left him. He struggled to pull himself out of the depths of despair and loneliness. Logan, went to NYC to pursue a career in journalism. Life didn't end up as he expected. He was a dishwasher sometimes cook trying to get work as a journalist. He missed Ash and wonders if he did the right thing. He struggled to pull himself back from the dark hole of loneliness, despair and guilt. Ash was wounded in a warehouse fire. He lost all of his memory. Max, Ash's long lost brother, found Logan and brought him to Ash. Logan wondered if he had an opportunity of redemption, or at least apology. Good flow. Does Ash regain his memory? Is Logan able to redeem himself? Does he ever advance his journalist career? Does Max, find peace with Ash? Did they ever find out what happened with the warehouse? Good flow. Great mystery, and set up for mysteries. Great group of friends. The author did an excellent job with the character and the storyline. Well done! Ash and Logan ❤️🔥❤️

4 Solid Stars 🌟
After reading the first book and loving it, I knew I had to read this one!!! I was not disappointed!!! I love a second chance love story, the addition of amnesia and i was hooked from the first page ❤️ Ash and Logan we both very likable and relatable characters, my heart was touched equally by their individual stories...their initial separation although heartbreaking on its own...was necessary for this relationship to flourish into its full potential. I felt like these guys needs to endure loss, failure and longing to appreciate the love they once shared and continued to feel ❤️ This defiantly was a feel good story laced with a touch of mystery...I was pleasantly surprised to see Max again and just how caring he was toward his brother ❤️ Ethan and the twins. I am anxiously anticipating the next book in this series, I can honestly say this is my favorite series of Hayden Hall and I highly recommend it!!

Ashton and Logan's story is full of some very intense longing and sadness. It's full of wonder and fresh starts. It's full of mystery, happiness, mistakes, beautiful memories, and most of all, a great love. Hayden does a really consistent job of getting in touch with every single one of my emotions with each book he puts out. You never know if you're going to giggle, or cry, or get angry, or when exactly it was you fell in love with your new book boyfriend's boyfriend, but his books will always make you feel. I very much look forward to where Hayden takes us with the conclusion of this series and especially the recurrence of all of the characters I have absolutely come to adore.

*This book can be read as a standalone, but it is part of a trilogy. Also, don't make the mistake of missing out on Max and Ethan's story in book 1! It will also help you to better understand some of the subplots in this story.

A second chance to do things the right way.
After a long term relationship and bad breakup, Logan leaves his old life behind to pursue personal dreams in NY. After a bad accident, Logan returns but the man he left behind doesn't remember their past nor the heartache that came with it.

Ashton is injured on the job. Left in a coma and awakes with no memories, he's left in the hands of a past love to help him. Only he does not remember Logan or what had gone wrong.
Despite not remembering Logan, Ash feels drawn to him. Their connection is clearly visible in this book.
Once the memories begin to flood his mind, will there be enough of a forgiveness to give their love a second chance? Would Logan leave again, if given the opportunity?

Love, longing and determination can conquer all.

He will get a second chance at love

This book is amazing! The story of Logan and Ash is full of love, heartbreak and lost memories. Ash is injured in a warehouse fire that will leave him with amnesia. His brother, Max, will find Logan, Ash’s ex, in New York and he will ask Logan to come back to help Ash try to regain his memory. Logan is hesitant at first. He left Ash two years ago to pursue his dream in New York and it hasn’t gone well. He returns to Ash and the two will slowly begin to build a new relationship. Things will be well and soon Logan is digging into the fire looking for an answer. One moment will bring Ash’s memories back and he will remember the hurt he felt when Logan left. Ash will end up giving Logan a chance and it will let the two get a fresh start to their relationship.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

This book wasn’t as good as the first one in the series was. I loved Ash, he was sweet, good natured ABD a perfect MC. Ash was kind of awful though. He left Ash to pursue his career and was failing at it. He said himself in one of the early chapters that he almost never thought about Ash. As soon as I read that I was disappointed he was one of the MCs. I don’t think he would have gone back and helped Ash had he actually been successful in New York.

While I did not enjoy the romance at all. (Not only because Ash deserved better than Logan, but because it took them so long to actually see each other again in this book.) I did d joy Ash & Max together and think they made the book tolerable. To be honest I think this book would have been better without the romance part of the story.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review.

Yours to be Forgotten is Ashton and Logan story. Ashton is a firefighter and he is still heartbroken, but after a warehouse explosion he suffered of amnesia. Logan wants to be a journalist in NY but doesn’t have any luck, when Aston’s brother Max convince him to go back to help Ashton he wants to helping him and seek forgiveness. He really regrets leaving him and still loves him. Their journey to help Ashton is so hard for him reliving all those memories and what he lost… I love watching them falling for each other again. This was a good read and I like how they deal together with what happened to Ashton and the accident and how they resolve their issues when Ashton finally get his memories back. This was a good second chance at Love. I can’t wait for the next book!

Deserving of many more stars than I can give. Couldn't put it down. Heartfelt and heartwarming. Never give up on the power of love. The power to heal and forgive. Ashton and Logan were in love until Logan broke them apart to pursue his career in New York leaving Ashton brokenhearted. The sad thing is Logan regretted the decision almost immediately. Firefighter Ashton suffers a traumatic head injury as well as burns while fighting a fire. He is left with severe amnesia. No one from his past is able to trigger any memories. Ashton's brother turns to Logan to help given their close relationship in the past. Ashton feels a sense of familiarity but nothing else. Logan is determined to help Ashton and stays with him. Can the two men find their way back to each other? I highly recommend.

This is a second chance romance, with the added twist that one protagonist has amnesia. Ash has a much more reasonable, calm, and patient approach to having amnesia than I suspect I would have— he never really seems afraid or impatient. Logan is, despite its potential consequences for him, diligent and caring in helping Ash to remember, and it’s hard not to see how well they could fit together. It was hard for me to see Logan as the villain of their pre-story breakup— his reasons were logical rather than malicious, and while I understand that every story needs drama, I don’t know that I felt the urgency of it here in the way it seems to be implied I should. Overall, however, I found this to be an enjoyable read.

Definitely a romance to have you swinging between hate and love, right and wrong, ethics, use of position and cover-ups, you don't know what to expect next. That being said, I definitely want to read book three in The Long Way Home series and hopefully another memory coming true.
Logan had left Ashton behind to find his journalistic dream in the big city. Nothing goes according to plan and Ashton's brother, Max, arrives looking for help after a suspicious warehouse fire.
Oh my soul, the beginning of chapter two is so descriptive, you feel like you are in the middle of the fire. Hayden Hall has joined my admiration for another author in the use of language to draw me into the middle of his world of words.

Ashton and Logan were in love and Logan left to pursue his career. Ash was trying but could not quite let go. Then he is seriously hurt in a fire and along with other injuries, he is left dealing with amnesia. Logan, who also still loves Ash, returns to help Ash try to recover his memory. Their reunion is an opportunity for both of these men to get something that they really want, even though Ash does not remember them when they meet again. But Ash does feel the pull toward Logan, which is something to build on. This story is emotional and really speaks to how complicated it can be to live with choices made and the outcome of those choices. It also gives these two the chance for a do-over and to see what they can build moving forward.

What an intense read! This is a second chance romance between Ashton and Logan. They were in a relationship awhile ago but Logan wanted to pursue his dream and left for New York which broke Aston’s heart. A few years go by and Ashton gets severely injured in a work place accident which leaves him in a coma and loss of memory. Logan returns after hearing the news and helps Ashton restore his memory. The author definitely put these guys through the ringer. The path to restoring Aston’s memory was not without some angst, sadness and guilt - mainly from Logan. I really liked seeing them get to know each other again and their HEA was well deserved.

I feel this series need be read in order. I love second chance stories. I also enjoy amnesia stories because I like to see what attracted the forgetful person and if that attraction is still there. I think both of the characters in this story are likable. I feel it is pretty common for young people to follow their dreams even if they end up with a broken relationship. These two handled this maturely and then events caused them to reconnect. There is a lot of emotion but I think this author is good at bringing feelings into his stories. I think the story flow is good but I would have liked more resolution to the explosion. I’ve enjoyed this series and look forward to the next book.

Never to be Forgotten

You will NEVER forget the longing, the pain, the passion, the love, that Hayden Hall builds for us, in Yours To Be Forgotten.

Book 2, in his Long Way Home series, continues the path of salvation for more than one character, as forgiveness, not just by others, but by ourselves, leads to an unparalleled chance for love-again.

I get such a deep connection with the characters Hall creates. They are damaged-in a salvageable way. They show their imperfect souls, which help us root for them to become more than they ever believed they could be.

Mistakes they have made are reconciled, not forgotten. They are lessons of life-lessons of love.

I was a little afraid going into this one because amnesia storylines always make me apprehensive over the angst factor. This one didn’t hit me real hard though, and, I suspect, it was because of Logan’s character. His motivations didn’t seem fleshed-out enough, and I struggled to forgive him on behalf of Ashton. Despite this, they have a great connection and a beautiful second chance love story. Their journey may be tough at times as they relive their pasts and try to rectify those mistakes. But it’s a journey that is so worth it! At it’s core, this is a wonderful and heartwarming story about healing and forgiveness.

This is a sad but romantic story. When Ashton loses his memory, his ex comes back to town to help him try to remember. Logan sees this as an opportunity to make up for leaving Ash 2 years before. Logan and Ash will steal your heart, they're so sweet together. Logan and Ash are both stubborn and protective, but where Ash is a small town guy, Logan is a big city guy, but only because of his career choice. The storyline is an interesting one, and has just enough drama to make it bittersweet. It's enjoyable and hard to put down.

Yep, liked this series better.

With the element of vigilante versus gay violence absent, I enjoyed these two books much more than the Brothers series which I abandoned. Hey, remember this is a 70 yo, straight woman talking. I prefer my romances sweeter with happy endings.

I did ponder the left-hanging hint of mystery with Max, and possible repercussions from his revelations, having myself been married to an investigative journalist and driven his car with an old bullet hole in the driver's door! But in Max's case, the author has decreed we'll never know. That's the only reason I withheld one star, Hayden.
