Soul eating tattoo. Check Self-replicating knife. Check Two-hundred-year-old score to settle. Double check. Meet the immortal Doc Holliday.
Lying on his deathbed, Dr. John Holliday was offered a choice; let the tuberculosis finish its work or accept immortality. Doc chose the latter, knowing full well that such “gifts” don’t come cheap, but damned if the last two hundred years haven’t been a blast. Partying, playing, fighting, killing; yes, eternal life’s been good... But the time to get serious has finally come, and the task he’s always known he was saved for is at hand. Now in modern-day Denver, Doc will be pushed to his limits to keep his promise and save the missing descendent of the beautiful shaman who gave him everlasting life. The trouble is things aren’t going as planned, and it’s becoming clear that there is far more at stake than Doc bargained for...

Hi, I'm M.M. Crumley Your Author Extraordinaire (Also Known as M.M. Boulder)
As M.M. Crumley I write Urban Fantasy books full of supernatural action, nail-biting-mystery and; laugh-out-loud humor. Why? Because stories, myths, and legends have always been a huge part of my life... As a child, I liked nothing better than to lose myself in a world where magic and heroes were part of the fabric of existence.
As my pen name M.M. Boulder I write psychological thrillers and murder mysteries that bring the darker impulses we may not feel completely comfortable with into the light. My stories are full of lies and deaths, but there is always justice. A type of justice that's not afraid to get its hands dirty. I write morally ambiguous characters who are pushed to their limits and take matters into their own hands. In my world getting away with murder has never been so much fun!
No matter what I write every one of my characters are real to me. They exist. They are three-dimensional beings who demand that their stories be told. If I were to turn away from them, they would haunt me; and so I don't. Instead I chase after them and write down everything they say!

Great fun book! I love the reimagining of a historical character. I even looked up the real Doc Holliday while reading this and learned that his first official confirmed kill in real life was done with a knife which I didn't know. Doc in the book doesn't use guns he prefers knives, partially because guns are loud and attract attention. Anyway I think it was really cool to make him a knife guy in the book since the real guy apparently only moved over to guns due to his failing health. Doc and Jury are really funny together bickering like an old married couple, they had me laughing hard. Doc is also cool because he has no problem killing, I never care for characters that leave the bad guy alive so they can seek revenge. It's one thing if a bad guy manages to get away but many times hero types have a moral issue with killing. Doc definitely does not have that problem. It was a fun book and I am reading the next one now. I highly recommend this!
This is the first book in the Immortal Doc Holiday series.
I thought the concept of this book was interesting but just okay for me. I feel like Doc Holiday needs more motivation in his life than sex with as many woman as possible, whiskey and a good card game.
This had a ton of potential and could see it working as a cozy mystery but as it is, this just falls a bit flat for me. I feel like saying… what is the point of this guy’s life. What a waste.
Not sure I will continue on with the series. It is unfortunate but I want to read other things that I find more interesting.

I'm surprised I finished this book. The further info I got, I teetered between giving up and slogging through.
None of the characters are well developed. The protagonist is grandiose and unlikable. There's nothing personal to his struggle and every challenge is overcome easily. The rapport between Doc and Jury is an forced and tough they've known each other a long time, you have no backstory to explain their relationship. The relationship between Doc and his sentient plant is better explained.
Other characters are introduced and thrown away. Even the motivation for the villain is unclear. We only hear about them around the halfway point angle and then they appear in two scenes.
a smoothe operator who is still the strong Doc of the 1800's, just an improved with age version. totally unexpected turns and twists make it a real page turner. his quest is one that is totally unexpectedand the most interesting characters. there was an unusual name, and low and behold, it was linked to google to explaine the name! I could not put this book down and am going to dive in now to book 2.
The world of Doc Holliday is different...as is Doc Holliday. He has lived long after the West was won, and now he saves innocents and annihilates murderers, psychopaths, abusers, and such.
An enjoyable, fast-paced read. The Doc Holliday character is now immortal, living in downtown Denver, killing bad guys, drinking whiskey, and seducing women. So far so good. Entertaining read, will be interesting to see where the series goes and how the author progresses. The characters are entertaining but not particularly deep or well-rounded. Hopefully they will develop as the stories do as there seems to be potential and chemistry. (Minor pet peeve, I get that he's loaded, but it's too easy that he buys his way out of every mess....wrecked apartment? No problem. Caught killing people on security cameras? Don't worry about it. A dozen dead bodies? Jervis will get to it. Crashed McLaren? (multimillion dollar sports car).....)

I couldn't get into this book. It has a good premise and I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't. Characters seem to pop up out of nowhere and it didn't make sense. There was such a lack of continuity between chapters and scenes. I think it could be good but it just needs more development. I think the company's claims of publishing fast is not such a good idea.
This book might have gotten. a much higher rating if it weren't for the cliffhanger. Want a decent review from me M.M. Crumley? Respect yourself and your readers enough to end each episode correctly. I am not impressed.
Solid! Entertaining, quick read…evolving anti-hero which is my fav archetype. Quirky extra characters & a super villain set up that seems encouraging. Definitely adding this series to the list! It reads a little bit Harry Dresden, a little bit Daniel Faust & a touch of Sandman Slim.
This book is nowhere near my normal genre to read, but the title and blurb intrigued me so I added it to my KU list. And I'll be honest, it sat there for almost a year before I started it. About a quarter of the way in I got distracted being a beta/arc reader for another author and just got back to it today. And I devoured it. I loved this book! I cooked dinner one handed because I couldn't put the book down. I will be following the author's advice and reading the first 4 Doc books then switching to the Andrew Rufus series before continuing with Doc. I think I'm going to enjoy it all.
I have no idea if I like this book or not. It's been a few weeks since I finished th first one, and still don't know if it gripped me enough to read the second. I picked it up because the premise sounded interesting; I love paranormal shenanigans. The reviews, at least on the Kindle, varied from this being a stellar read to a waste of time with no real middle ground. So of course I had to read something with such polarized opinions.
And well. I definitely see why there was so much variety. Doc Holliday is supposed to be a lovable assholes, an as played by Ryan Reynolds type of character. But all I really get from it is an immortal layabout, with the drinking habit akin to Doctor House's drug habits and Barney Stinson's sex drive without the glory of being portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris.
I find him to be an unlikeable main character. His whole purpose for being immortal is to protect the great granddaughter of the woman who gave him immortality-and what does he do? You think he would spend an appropriate amount of time finding the granddaughter and protecting her, right? No, instead he spends the better part of a decade on a wild sexcapade with a vampire; waiting until days before the supposed deadline of his greatest task.
He is portrayed as a charmer, but I really don't get it. The author tries to offset his brusque personality by making him a friend to the hidden, all the immortal creatures we were humans don't see. But I don't think it's enough to give him antihero or lovable asshole statues. And a charmer? His main personality is stroking his own ego and convincing others to stroke his cock. When a woman is justifiably scared and concerned about being thrust into a world with creatures she's never seen before, he calls her a closed minded racist. Charming indeed.
Also, a lot of this feels disjointed. I feel like I've been dropped into book two or three of the series, not an introduction to the world and setting. I personally don't feel like the frequent daydreams and flashbacks the Dr. Holliday is prone to work as a good method of relaying his backstory.
This whole novel feels like a straight white male power fantasy. And while the setting is good, and the concept is intriguing, a lot of this feels forced. Maybe it's worth sticking around to see if the good Doc goes through any character development.
TLDR: 2.5 stars, Fun concept, unlikeable main character

I guess I'm not the only one who wonders how an immortal would think about the past because Mr. Crumley did the same thing I would: go wandering down memory lane at random times. He's also fairly decent at describing the characters or I'm putting expectations on his characters because I can hear the gravely voice of Doc Holliday as he smirks at you. The book was different too. I didn't get bored and had to divide up chapters per day so I could get other things done. I liked the world building and could understand the characters introduced even if I hadn't read any other books by Mr. Crumley. It was well worth the chance I gave it. Some may like Doc Holliday, others may hate the series.
If I hadn't read the wonderful Graves series first, I would have stopped reading this book by the middle of the first chapter. I found the main character unlikable at first -- as in I didn't like him at all. But I liked him in the Graves series, and there were references to this series in that series that I wanted to explore. So I kept reading, and by the middle of the book, Doc started to evolve. And I began see the promise of the Doc I came to love in the Graves series. This author is very talented. And I'd love to give her 5 stars by the end of the next book in the series.
For me the jury is still out on this one. I really cannot make up my mind whether I like it or not.
On one hand it is a cool story. The famous, or is it infamous, Doc Holliday is still alive and kicking (ass). He is immortal and he is a fairly cool main protagonist.
The story is somewhat okayish but it depends a lot on the persons involved and although a lot of them are quite cool or at least interesting the character that the entire story revolves around, except for Do Holliday himself of course, is rather bland and uninteresting.
There are some other persons around that somewhat makes up for it though. His talking plant, yep he has a talking plant that “drinks” booze almost as much as Doc Holliday himself, is quite cool and so is his friend witch as well as the guy running his hotel.
What annoys me a bit with the book is that the author has now qualms about portraying Doc Holiday as a boozing and womanizing person, someone that a lot of people would call a person of dubious moral. At the same time he seems to belong to the group of people that seems to think that “adult language” is more of a sin than most other things. This makes the dialogue between Doc Holiday and his friends become somewhat unnatural and boring when it could have been quite fun.
As I wrote earlier, I’m still on the fence as to whether I liked this book or not. I guess that means that I have to read the next one though.
I have very little to say about this. The universe and rules are established to some degree.
The only issue I have is with Doc Holiday. Doc was a gambler, which is portrayed accurately. Doc was well learned and knew numerous languages and had to wait till his age caught up to his qualifications, he was THAT smart.
My point being is that Doc was smart, none of that is displayed in this book. He could be anyone, there is nothing that screams Doc Holiday. The personality is pedestrian, no sign of above intelligence is portrayed.
His loyalty is represented adequately, but it doesn't scream Jon Holliday
All other characters are well developed and elicit emotions, for good or ill
To be honest, this book is only the first in the series, it may evolve but I wouldn't call it a 'must read'
I don't leave a lot of written reviews, but I had to come leave one for this one. This was such a fun read!! At first I was leary, not being much of a western fan and doc Holliday being a huge figure from the wild west, but the synopsis intrigued me. I am so glad I decided to give it a try. I thought there might be too much going on initially, but as the story unfolded, the background and present all came together nicely. There is so much humor and sarcasm I laughed out loud innumerable times. I really liked the characters. I've read a book since this one, and still I am thinking about this one and what's going to happen next. I'm going for book 2 now!
Doc Holliday Is the anti-hero. A card playing, silver tongued, bewitched man out of his time period due to immortality but with a price he’s all too willing to pay. Saving the young maiden just got complicated.
I wasn’t convinced at the beginning of this book, but this character became worthy of a second or third look. His daydreams of his early life pique my interest. I’d like to meet Andrew through Doc’s eyes. I’ll move on to book two. The Immortal Doc Holliday: Coup d’état, Book Two.
I totally loved this story, I have never read anything from this author before but while browsing as you do on Amazon I came across this book and thought I would give it a go. Totally glad I did it was funny, witty and very well written, had engaging characters and a plot that unravels just enough but doesn't answer all your questions. I truly recommend that you try this book.
I was late to work because I couldn't stop reading, no regrets!
I absolutely loved every bit of this! Bringing a classic old west person to modern times and adding the entire supernatural world is the most brilliant combination I never knew I needed. Fully intend to purchase all the books, and will be sharing them with every reader I know. Thank you so much for this wonderful creation!
Pretty good, great characters, wonderful world building. Thoroughly enjoyable. If you enjoy fantasy with witches, shamans, vampires, zombies and the like, this is for you.
It is not remotely a western, so if the name throws you, be aware it has nothing to do with old west gun fighters.
Who jnew Doc Holiday didn't die in the Old West? I enjoyed finding out he didn't and learning about the Hidden world. Interesting take on the magical world. Not quite what I expected but it was a good story. Have to see if he can save the 'damsel' and beat the bad guy.
M.M. Crumley is a new author for me and I've SO enjoyed this series. I normally read books with a female protagonist, so I'm very pleased I gave this series a chance. Love Doc Holliday's fun, witty and at times ruthless character (with a big heart).
Every book has been great fun to read, finished all four books in a few days and have pre-ordered book 5. Would highly recommend this series. 😊
This new Doc Holliday reborn and immortal 250 years in the future, mixed with all kinds of paranormal and humans in a new world. As he fulfills his sworn word to find and save a young woman. He learns of a Madmans plan. You need next book to know if Doc and friends try to stop the madman or not
I'm a voracious reader. At least a book a day and that's a lot of books. This series is in my top five or six, which is saying a lot. I loved Rufus but its darker. Doc is everything you could ever want. Its captivating! I'm so excited for the next installment with Pecos!
