Calling Wood #1

We Are Worthy

Rate this book
When an Omega turns 21, he or she is to attend Calling Wood University in search of their packs before their first heat.
Well, you see, I'm not like what society has labeled what Omegas should be. I don't want to play homemaker and submit to a bunch of Alphas. So when I take Calling Wood by storm, I'm quick to show that the typical Alpha packs just won't do.

I'm determined to find my scent match. And refuse to take a pack unless it's who I'm meant to be with. Call me stubborn, but I know what I want.

After meeting almost every unclaimed pack in the school, I start to lose hope. That is, until I catch the scent of something that has me weak in the knees.

Tristan, Finn, Sawyer and Dominic are not like other Alphas. They've given up hope on finding their Omega, making school their whole lives. They don't think they are good enough, worthy enough, to have their happily ever after.

But these sweet nerdy virgin boys aren't going to know what hit them. I love a challenge and I’ve made it my mission to prove they are worthy. That we are worthy.

We Are Worthy is a non-shifter sweet standalone with lots of steamy moments. It will end on a HEA.

DNF at 17% after the Omega FMC Octavia/Tia found out that Pack Ashwood was unmated and was willing to also accept her Beta guard as potentially part of her pack.

This was an overly sweet insta-lust fast-burn reverse harem romance so far, with all the men "not like the others," which I guess is a unique take with Alphas and Betas, but also doesn't quite make sense personality-wise. It was a little over the top with how the author tried to make the characters different than the stereotypical mold, and I was a little tired of reading about how horny Tia was after finding her scent-matched mates and being unable to mentally function after that.

I will say that I liked the pictures of the characters at the top of their POV chapters to easily visualize what the characters looked like. However, I just wasn't in the mood for such a quick insta-lust omegaverse read, especially with virgins, and wanted a slower burn with more character development before the harem came together.

DNF at chapter 11 (30%). I tried to keep going, I really did, but it’s so hard to read.

The writing is really flat, so much of it is happening off-page and then we’re being told about it after the fact. Weeks are going by in between scenes and then we get the inner monologue of Tia summing up the week and waxing poetic about how different and special the guys are. All anyone does is growl and whimper and leak and I’m already over it. I’m not sure if there ends up being a plot in this one, but so far there really isn’t one. There is no showing, only telling. I’m not quite sure how there can possibly be 4.5 hours more of read time after the point I’m at, but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s mostly just going to be heat and sex with little else. (Edit: after I left my review I did go back and skim the entire book to confirm, and yes it is almost entirely sex scenes and nothing substantial happens whatsoever)

Omegaverse CAN have a robust and rich plot line without just being page after page of instalove fastburn steam. The most successful and highly recommended books in the genre always have a mix of both and include character and world-building that is descriptive and immersive. This doesn’t have that from what I’m seeing. It was kinda like reading a teenagers diary.

I liked that the author was trying something different and switching around the archetypes, but I just think it fell a bit flat. I would have preferred more time with the characters actually showing their differences rather than just being told ‘oh he’s nerdy and shy’ and ‘oh he’s big and damaged’. Too much info dumping and recapping.

Also, I see some people liked the character photos at the start of each chapter and POV, I hated it 😭 It was like a jump scare every time. And part of me also felt like this was another example of us being told something rather than shown through literary description. Instead of giving us a rich visual for our minds and creating enough of a difference in internal thought that we could identify the POVs, the author took a bit of an easy way out by putting these harsh visuals at the start of every POV. I like reading because I like to visualize things myself as I’m immersed in it, if I wanted to be shown exact visuals I would just watch a tv show. Especially, when the character photos didn’t really match the picture that the author had built through their words.

OH and I really hate when authors name drop other authors, other rh/abo book titles, or make pop culture references and this author did all three. It just immediately brings be out of the story and makes me want to roll my eyes. It’s cringey.

I’m not going to come back to this one.

This book was so one dimensional it made me mad. Great idea showing a different type of alpha, but how much repetitive self degrading dialogue about each character can there be in a book?
The author also seemed to get tunnel vision and could only focus on like 1-2 things at a time. Leaving big gaps between mentioning background characters.
ALSO why was the bond mind linking only mentioned at the time of bites, and literally at 1 other point in the book?! Especially after all the emphasis on how ‘overwhelming’ all the voices can be in a large group of bonds.
I feel dumber for persevering and finishing the book. I should have DNF at my first annoyance which was probably how CRINGE worthy the dialogue was.

Do yourself a favour and skip this omegaverse book.

We Are Worthy is a disgustingly adorable and hella spicy omegaverse that follows Tia, her alpha misfits Tristan, Finn, Sawyer, and Dom, and her protective beta Knox as they form a pack and weather not only her first heat together but the comments and gossip about their pack around Calling Wood.

I loved that Tia and her pack didn’t fit the conventional ideals of what a pack should look like, and loved the body positivity and acceptance!

Watch out. You might get a cavity from the sweetness overload in this omegaverse.

An omega who is knot hungry. A beta who is more an alpha than anything and four alphas who have given up on finding an omega for them.

Lots of spice and cute moments.
Also Finn reads Omega’s Obsession to get ideas. How could I not enjoy it?

Oh my gosh.
I loved this.
So smutty. So sweet.
I really enjoyed the relationships in this. They were so cute and loving and encouraging.
The support, and the love between them was so satisfying, and heartwarming.

This was very low drama, just relationship growths, mainly because the guys have low self esteem and have been rejected and made fun of for so long that they just don’t believe in themselves anymore. Luckily, the FMC(yes I already forgot her damn name. Shush your mouth😂) and Knox make it their mission to help the pack realize their worth.
It really gave me the warm fuzzies.

Plus the smut, was smutting all over the place. It was hot and filthy and absolutely lovely.
I will for sure be checking out more books from this author.

This one is difficult to rate. There's no plot outside the relationship. I can handle that when it's very well done or for example if there's trauma to be overcome. This book glossed over all the important bits and it reads like a first time author. All of this sounds more critical than I mean it to. I truly loved the message and the IDEA of alphas bucking those designation norms. The execution was what was lacking.

In general people say about 20% of what we think. We frame conversations and interactions to get a desired response without having to put all our thoughts and feelings out there. Please note I don't mean in a heart to heart talk. I'm speaking in general in day to day life. This book had very little nuance. The dialog made me cringe on more than one occasion. There's no warm up or sliding into relationship depth. It's all put out there from page one. That's okay... Sometimes.

Is this how people talk and act now? I don't think so but I don't want to be overly critical because I do mean this review to hopefully guide the author into a bit more realistic dialog. (not that it's even my place to do so but again I'm an old woman who's read for 50 years so I do know a thing or two)

I liked the characters and the overall message or theme but the execution didn't knock it out of the park

I read We Are Worthy a while ago and according my history I rated it four stars. I came back to it and I'm not sure what changed but I loved it! The overall message and theme of the book is so important. I browsed a few reviews before leaving this and some are unnecessary and brutal. I often wonder if people would say such hurtful things in person. I've also noticed a trend of female readers being seriously awful to books in the omegaverse trope or genre.

I give this book 5 stars this go round. I will say I didn't love the way Finn and Knox seemed to leave the fmc behind once they got together but this is a subject I tend to be overly sensitive about and it likely won't bother most readers but it is worth noting in case you've got any sensitivities to things. Again that's personal preference and I try not to penalize for those in my reviews.

Really Bad
The writing quality was so bad it was insulting. There's no character development, no realistic conversations, and sub par sexual scenes that honestly reminded me of scenes other authors wrote first.

My buddy reader explained how the author shames bad reviews on her social media so at first I was going to leave it alone but that's disgraceful and feels like bullying. I don't cower to bullies so here's my honest take.

While this was an absolutely adorable read… that’s just the problem, the book is overly sweet and heavily focused on the relationship between an Omega and her mates. For the first quarter of this book the characters were pretty endearing and relatable. Omega Tia finds her mates in the popularly unmated outcasts at her school. The men each suffer with various personal issues from a serious case of body dysmorphia to one who has an embarrassing fear of tiny dogs. One of her mates dreams to be a stay at home dad, while another dreams of opening up a comic book shop. Each of her flour alphas are virgins having saved themselves for their one true mate. Honestly all very cute and fun things but in the end do any of those things feel very Alpha-y? For an Omegaverse read with absolutely no action or conflict the guys’ timid natures did little to spice up the book. Not gonna lie after awhile it felt like too much sex (also yes-tons of knotting) and relationship development with nothing else making the book really drag. I got bored after awhile and really wish there was more action or at least a longer epilogue.

This was the silly, sweet fluff I was looking for.

Is there plot? No
Is there insta-love? Yes
Is there 🌶️🌶️🌶️? Uh huh

Although it got a little repetitive at times, I did really enjoy the positivity and acceptance the characters espouse.

Haha and the sex positive FMC. She’s a knot hungry little virgin and I got a kick out of her no fucks given attitude.

I also enjoyed that the characters were roughly the same age and all learning and growing into their designation while still embracing who they are - nerdy, shy, goofy, grumpy, and a beta that’s a bit more dominant.

While I do enjoy that this pack was nontraditional with its atypical alphas and an alpha-like beta, this ultimately missed the mark for me.

These characters are 21 years old and up, so tell me WHY they all read like they were in high school? I've read high school aged books with characters more mature than any of the characters in this one.

Secondly, "I love you" was exchanged at the 23% mark. TWENTY-THREE PERCENT MARK. Done so with zero relationship development.

THEN, when the Alphas and Omega finally collide, the book decides to skip over their preliminary meetings? Just told us after the fact that XYZ does this and ABC does that in the span of a paragraph? SKIPPING all the necessary groundwork required to 1. give me some insight on each person in this book and 2. build the dynamics between everyone.

What results is a shallow story, unsatisfying romance, and, unfortunately, a slog of a read.

Very bland, I almost DNFed a few times but continued because I don’t have anything better right now. Most of the book is about the characters’ insecurities and slowly building the pack. There’s no real plot outside of that, and even the steamy scenes read oddly to me. The characters read fairly naive and young (despite being 21 and older), and yet they almost have alter egos when they get frisky. Maybe it wouldn’t bother other readers but it just felt a bit performative and inconsistent with the rest of the character.

Y’all when I say I’ve never read an Omegaverse like this one I’m NOT even kidding! We Are Worthy is the story of a Little Omega on her journey to finding her pack.

Tia is sweet, sassy, and a little bad assyyy🤣 Don’t let the sweetness fool you! This Omega will rip your head off in the sweetest way possible if you mess with her men! She’s fiercely protective of them just as they are of her.

This story is exceptionally well written. Alisha, did a phenomenal job of bringing us the sweetest Alphas who have been dealt a raw deal. They’re not your typical Alphas- they’re deliciously nerdy and sweet with the exception of our grumpy Alpha man, Dom. While he is sweet on our little Omega Tia, he has some issues that the book will touch base on but he quickly comes around to the idea of accepting that his Omega LOVES him wholeheartedly🥰

Tris, Finny, and Sawyer are the cutest and most loving Alphas! And we can’t forget our sexy Beta, Knox🥵 who totally gives off BDE vibes🍆

Ladies! This book is C A L I E N T E🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Our Little Omega turns into a vixen with a dirty mouth when it’s go time🥵

We’re also introduced to a few characters in Tia’s story who will be getting their own voices later on😉 While there a some serious issues mentioned in this book- for the most part I found myself laughing so much as I was reading it. Tia is hilarious and she will have you cackling!

It’s the perfect mix of smut and a plot that will make you laugh and maybe even cry a little. This is a standalone with a HEA (you’ll love the ending🤍)

If you want a non-traditional Omegaverse this is the one you want to delve into!

I'm bouncing in and out of the omegaverse genre. Vile Boys and Knot Your Damn Omega I was looking for my next fix. Sadly, this wasn't it. It looked and sounded interesting. The chapter image boggled me, taking away any imagination for what the FMC looked like. Character wise I recoiled so fast from Octavia, I immediately returned the book. She knew what she wanted, but it felt arrogant, almost mean girl. DNF at chapter 2.

3.5 stars WOW. This GIRL has a DIRTY MOUTH and I LOVE IT. Like her men have dirty mouths too, but I don't think I've ever read another FMC with a mouth as DIRTY as hers. So of course, I really liked this book, it was cute, sweet, spicy, and heartwarming.

This book is surrounding a place called Calling Wood, a place where Omegas can find their Alpha pack, and acquire an education if they please. Octavia attends Calling Wood, and almost immediately is enraptured by a Beta, Knox, her bodyguard. Knox, gives off Alpha vibes, has tattoos all over and immediately tells Octavia that he wants her to give him a chance. Typically, Beta's don't form packs or are involved in one, but that's not the case here. She starts to fall for her bodyguard and vice versa while she's searching for her pack. She goes through each pack and is not satisfied with any of them since they only see her as an object. Then one day in the library she sees an Alpha that makes her instincts take over and vice versa, and she has a spicy moment with him. Then after yet another failed alpha pack, she sees one pack that is not actively looking for an Omega, after many rejections, they stopped looking for an Omega, until Octavia walked into their lives. And this pack is known as the "reject pack", and in this pack is the man she had a spicy moment in the library with. In this pack of Alphas, we have Tristian (library man), the caring pack leader who gives boy next door vibes. Sawyer, the blonde jokester. Dominic, the big, burly, grumpy tattooed man who gives lumberjack vibes. And Finn, the sweet shy red-headed nerd. At first, the men are in shock that an Omega wants them, and some of them are immediately for it and want her while others are in disbelief that someone wants them and think it's too good to be true. And Finn has a history with Knox, and Knox immediately wants their relationship to pick up where they left off. And then, she gets to be all of her Alpha's FIRSTS!! I loved that. Throughout this book, we have Octavia reassuring them that she wants them and her Beta. It's so nice and sweet to witness these men come into themselves and get rid of their insecurities and become confident. She even gets crazy POSSESSIVE over all her men and puts any and everyone into their place that either tries to take them from her or talk down to them. And what I loved about this book was that you could feel the love from everyone, not one person felt left out, not one love declaration was left out, but everyone was as complete as they can be. Ooh and in the epilogue they incorporated the book title, and UGH it was so sweet.

Favorite quotes/scenes:

-"Knox...I really, really like you. You mean the world to me. No matter what Alphas I end up with, you will be right there next to me. If they don't want you, they don't get me. Because giving you up would be like giving up a part of myself."
"You're so fucking amazing. You better watch out, Little Omega. I think I'm falling in love with you."
"Would that be such a bad thing? Because I think I'm falling in love with you too."
"Never a bad thing." (Knox and Octavia)

-"The moment I laid eyes on her for the first time, I wanted to charge across the room, pull her into my arms, and kiss her like she owned me. I feel the pull, and when he locked eyes with me at the table...fuck, I almost got to my knees and begged her to be mine." (Dominic)

-"She's a goddess, and I can't believe she's mine, ours." (Tristian)

-"I know I'm an Alpha, but I've never truly felt like one until Tia came into our lives. She makes me feel a little less broken, a little less out of place." (Sawyer)

-"I love you, Tia. And it means so much to me that you came today. You see me for me, and there is not an ounce of judgement. You make me feel things that I can't put into words. All I know is that it's something I want to feel forever. Thank you for loving me, for me."
"I love you too, Finn. Every part of you. I love learning about new things with you, hearing about all your hobbies, and anything else you enjoy."
"I don't deserve you. But I'm so damn lucky you're mine. Mine forever.
"Forever." (Finn and Octavia)

-"Octavia Lockheart was an unexpected blessing in our lives. She saw a pack of broken men who were convinced they has no worth, and slowly, one by one, she put us back together, showing us we were worthy of love and acceptance. And i know for a fact that if it weren't for this woman, our Omega, we would still be those lost and broken men for the rest our lives." (Dominic)

-"And I will spend the rest of my life reminding them that everything that others have deemed flawed or wrong about them are the things I love the most about them. My silly Alpha, who never fails to make me smile on my darkest days. My sweet Alpha who cares for not only me but all of us, keeping us a pack. My shy Alpha who's opened up so much not only to love others but to love himself. My grumpy Alpha, who learns to love a piece of himself, every day, and over time, I think he'll see what I see. Then my Beta, my best friend. He may have acted like nothing ever bothered him, but I saw how much it meant to him that I bit him. To see how happy he is, not only to be mated to me, but Finn as well makes me so happy what we could give that to him." (Octavia)

I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down once I picked it up. I had been looking forward to this book since Williams started sharing teasers. This book did not let me down at all and lived up to all my expectations.

Tia is a great FMC. She doesn’t just bow down to the alpha packs at Calling Woods; she wants to find the perfect pack for her. Tia isn’t your typical omega but her pack isn’t your typical alphas either, they are so much better! Finn, Tristian, Dominic, Sawyer, and Knox are all so different but somehow Williams was able to take these personalities and make them all mesh perfectly with Tia. They all give her something different but they are so supportive of one another too that I was swooning while reading. Knox was my favorite right from the start but as I read more, the entire pack became my favorite. The characters are so well developed that I just wanted more of them all.

Most of the books I’ve read from Williams are dark or have some dark elements, but this book is so different from those. It’s sweet and just left me with a goofy grin while reading. I love dark books usually but I didn’t feel like this book was missing anything. It was absolutely perfect! I was sad when I finished the book though because it is a standalone and I really just want more of Tia and her pack!

all the feels

This book is such a heart warming, feel good story. Tia is an omega searching for her alphas. All of the standard packs rub her the wrong way. When she encounters a pack of misfits, she finds her forever. This is the journey they go through, with ups and downs, trials and tribulations.

I get insta-love and can get on board but what I can’t get past are the characters turned caricatures. They have absolutely no dimension beyond “quirky” or “nerdy” and it got annoying REAL fast.

Unique take on omegaverse and gender expectations turned into a DNF at 21%. The writing felt straight out of a anti-bullying video your middle school plays at assembly. Had to space out during the characters declaring how unique they are and finally gave up at the awkward product placing of a Sarah Blue book. Save your brain cells

This was the sweetest omegaverse reverse harem that I've ever read!! This whole book is about overlooking what's on the outside and finding your person (or in this case, persons) and falling in love with them for who they truly are on the inside. Because at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

So Tia is going to college to hopefully find her mates, but to also ensure she has an education as well. She immediately finds a connection with her bodyguard Knox, but she's still looking for a pack. And when she hears of four friends who have been overlooked because they aren't "true alphas" (meaning not your typical hot, overbearing men) she walks up to them and knows this is where she belongs. You have Sawyer who's the goof, Finn who's slightly nerdy but rocks his bowties, Tristan who is the essential boy next door, and brooding Dom, who has very real insecurities of his weight since he's not as fit as his friends . Each one of them completes her, and she soothes each one of them. Then Knox is entered into the fold (who has a surprise connection to one of the guys!!) and they become a true pack and family.

There's not really much plot, no conflict, and 100% cavity inducing sweetest. But yet the steam is hooooottttt.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I really loved the message behind this book, and can't wait for more in the series!

This is such a sweet omegaverse! I love the world-building and the way the story turns the typical designation stereotypes around.

Tia is so sweet but she does not put up with being treated poorly. Packs of typical Alphas who want an omega just to pop out babies are not what she’s looking for and she isn’t shy about saying so. She has a wonderful family who support her need to be herself instead of pigeonholing her into society’s expectations of an omega.

Tia does exhibit the classic traits of an omega, she just also knows her worth and doesn’t judge people by society’s standards. When she meets the outcast pack of alphas, it makes complete sense that they would fit together. It’s almost insta-love, there’s a definite connection to the pack right away, but I enjoyed the time the author took to have Tia get to know each pack member. Her beta bodyguard, who also doesn’t act like a typical beta, is a fierce protector and Tia’s first real connection at the university. Tia has no hesitation about bringing him along for the ride. There are growing pains and some of the alphas have trust issues because of how they’ve been treated, but Tia is understanding and patient.

The spice is on par with most OV books - there are heats and nests and knots (oh my!) and I love it. This is a standalone but there could absolutely be more stories in this universe.

Typically, when I read omegaverse the alphas are huge, burly, and needs to show the female lead that she is worthy of their love. Well, Alisha Williams flipped the script and brought a totally new and unique omegaverse RH. The guys are not your average alphas which I love. The guys are all hot nerds that don’t know their worth as they were rejected by every omega on campus and constantly are made fun of by others. Luckily Tia ends up being the guys fated mate and shows them that they are worthy of her love. She has a lot of walls to break down but when she does it is swoon worthy.

I like that Alisha Williams shows that alphas come in all shapes and sizes, and they are not all carved out of marble. Some of them look like the guy next door, some are major goofballs, some wear suspenders with black rimmed glasses, and some have a bit more meat on their bones.

I loved how Tia’s relationship progressed with each guy and how they took their time getting to know one another. It was super sweet. Now don’t get me wrong while this book has enough sweetness to give you a cavity, the steam in this book is unreal. I’m talking like I was fanning myself because it got hot and steamy fast.

I’m excited to read more by Alisha Williams and to read the next book in the series. If I could make one criticism of this book, I think this book could have another look through when it comes to editing. There was a bit of spelling mistakes and odd sentences throughout the book. Luckily it did not stop me from enjoying this book nor will it stop me from reading more by Alisha Williams.

Very sweet. Very spicy. Low angst. Insta-love, but it makes sense because the group is scent matched. Everyone is a virgin, but the Beta. Good palate cleanser book.

I loved the incorporation of the character pictures in each of their chapters.
