Imogen is something more than the First of the Blade. Now she must understand it.
Having thwarted a Porapeth plan, Imogen struggles to understand the gift that Benji gave her. She has knowledge that she could never have imagined, but for her to lead, she needs understanding.
When Imogen finds herself chasing after her brother once again, she isn't sure what he's after. Power, but from where?
The answer reveals a new truth to Imogen, and it's one that might be enough for her to lead the Leier and Koral—or destroy them.
An excellent book. A few more questions than answers in this book. Alliances' shifts, paths, and responsibilities/purposes are solidified.
Imogen has been gifted powers she has yet to understand. Her people are progressing, but constant attacks and travelling with an unknown destination in mind are taking their toll on them. Can Imogen get the understanding and answers she needs to become who/what her people need. However, her enemies might already be ahead of her in knowledge, purposes, and deeds. Can Imogen prevent the fall of her people?
This is more of a search for answers book, I do wish there was more of the action at the end of the book spread throughout it. The backup stories are also good. These concentrate on straight after Imogen leaving the Sacred Tiger Temple. Her first encounter with magic users.
A tale of magic, swords and survival. A tale, a Pattern of words, weaved by the First of the Pen, the Word Master, D.K. Holmberg. Beautiful, and now the wait for book number 5 ...
During this novel, we learn more about the history of the Leier, the history of Imogen, and what occurred during her bond quest. We know some from events that were touched on in the Chain Breaker series, but we get a much different understanding and view when seen from Imogen's perspective as events unfold, as opposed to Gavin's perspective years later. Imogen's forces grow in strength and understanding, as do Imogen's relationship. We also learn more about the Sacred temples, the Sacred Sword Masters, and the truth behind the Koral and Leier peoples. The growth of Imogen and her allies is tempered with losses, both amongst characters and cultures. I am excited to see where the author continues to go with this story, and how all of these actors relate to each other, if at all.
I thank Holmberg so much for this excellent read. Throughout Imogen's emotional and power struggles she has definitely matured and grown. Although Imogen misses the Porapeth, Benji; she also understand why he had to leave. Her continued dependence upon him was only further stalling her own independence and mastery of the sacred powers. Everything happens for a reason and Imogen's new found powers and maturity will surely enable her to save the Leire and Koral.
The journey continues; surprises, betrayal, compassion, working together, giving all you have plus! The characters are so well developed they practically jump off the page! If you like magic, adventure, coming together to survive, trying to find your path, and purpose you will want to read this series. I have preordered the next and cannot wait to continue on with Imogene!
When the general of the first army fell, Imogen assumed his position and started teaching her people the sacred forms, just as Eleanor teaches the koral stronger magic. But now, Timo is destroying the sacred temples. Why? And what do Benji's people have go do with it?
