My critically acclaimed standalone thrillers include the major bestseller SAFE HOUSE (which has sold more than 500,000 copies in the UK and was shortlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award), DEAD LINE, DARK TIDES (an Observer "Thriller of the Month") and LONG TIME LOST (a "masterful thriller" The Independent). I'm also the author of the Kindle Single story SCARLETT POINT which, like many of my thrillers, is set on the Isle of Man.
I was born in Taunton in 1976 and graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in American Studies with a minor in Canadian Literature, then later trained as a lawyer. After an eleven-year spell living on the Isle of Man, I now live in Somerset, England with my wife and two children, where I write full time.
My second Christmas book this year. One for kids and this one for me. Would love to mix up the if you liked this you may like that for both books. I enjoyed this and was able to get the characters even though it is supposed to be a later one. It is a nice murder mystery with the murder off screen. This is a a novella so it is a quick read. I did go get the free preview to the series after this and i plan on reading the series.
Meet Charlie, author and thief. No he’s not a plagiarist, he’s an actual physical thief. A burglar, a pick pocket, a thief. And I now love him!!
Charlie’s literary agent doesn’t ask for much from him; all she wants is a Christmas present, a specific present. Given Charlie’s talents, this is no problem but as with everything there is a spanner in the works.
What Ewan orchestrates is a short fun entertaining read for Christmas. I enjoyed spending an hour with Charlie as he tried to fulfill his agent’s Christmas wish.
I’ve not read any of the Good Thief’s Guides or anything by Chris Ewan before but I thoroughly enjoyed the brief introduction I got. Despite this being the 6th in the series (it’s labelled as 5.5) I didn’t feel I’d missed out on the backstory. That said, I’ll be going to the beginning and getting to know Charlie that bit better!
I got this free on Kindle so can’t grumble too much. It’s a fun story for cosy crime lovers at Christmas. It’s obviously been offered free to introduce you to the characters and encourage you to read the author’s books. However, it wasn’t really for me. It lacked the depth I like in my crime books and just reminded me of some of those David Niven style films of the 60s. It was simplistic and too coincidental for my liking. It’s full of Christmassyness though, so if you’re looking for an easy Yuletide read and like cosy crime, download it.
Great short story, been waiting for the latest good thief guide, looking forward to more of the same. Now let me leave you with the story of the big footed hamster, he had a size 8 foot, but only one you see, bigger than the rest of him and married to a hamster with a double D. Buy this book.
This is a very short fun story where our Good Thief Charlie finds himself not only discovering but solving a murder while 'acquiring' a Christmas gift for his agent, Victoria. There are even carol singers! Loved how Victoria was present and took part in events.
Welcome, if brief, reminder of the Good Thief (and Victoria)'s absence. Seasonal caper with the traditional fayre of murder, subterfuge and Will They Won't They?
It's so good to have Charlie back - he's like an old friend. Victoria ably keeps his secret as ever in this enchanting, murderous story. Download it now - it's a steal.
