The story begins with Hattie spying one of the girls that used to bully Harper when she was in high school. Later that same day, 2 other s that were part of the same clique wound up at Harper's office. One of the women wanted to inquire about an ad for her new restaurant that was opening. Just seeing the two women got Harper's blood boiling as she thought about what happened when she was in school.
The individual that was planning on opening a restaurant has purchased the property that two other chefs had been seeking. When the woman was killed, Harper was quick to assist in finding the killer. With the killing, things began occurring at the new restaurant site. What was so important at this location for the interest of acquiring the property by the two chefs.
To find out who was responsible for the killing, why the property was so important and what other surprises showed up in the story, then you need to read this book.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I read and reviewed the prequel to this series so I was excited to be able to read one of the full length stories. This book explores the subject of 'Mean Girls' -- something with which, if you have children or grandchildren in the schools today you probably have experience. We see the long term effects, subtle but still evident, being targeted in High School has had in Harper's life -- and also the collateral effect it has had on Hattie. Sometimes it is not the person who was the direct recipient of bad behavior that has the most difficulty moving on.
But the book is not ALL about high school girl angst. The mystery of who-done-it is alive and well (well, maybe not so alive) and will keep you on your toes. I love the characters in this series; well developed and realistic relationships with room to grow as the series advances.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Another great addition to the Hattie & Harper stories!
This one reaches back into Harper's school years and brings with it painful memories that Harper thought had long been buried. Murder, revenge, and deceit aren't far behind, and Harper is soon drawn into helping to solve the case.
As always, Jones' characters draw the reader in - we love to find out what's new for our favourites, and the villains are never wholly bad, which is nice. The story takes some interesting twists, and just when you think you've figured it out - you're wrong!
Don't miss Harper and Hattie Number Six, you'll love it!
[I was fortunate to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of the book from the author, with no obligation to review. The opinions expressed herein are given freely and are entirely my own.]
The Sinister sisters stroll into town, Harper’s nemesis from high school and promptly begin to terrorize her all over again.
Aunt Hattie, boyfriend Jackson and Harper’s boss Dan are there for support but everything shifts when Elinor the chef, the least offensive of the terrible threesome, who attempts to make amends with Harper, is murdered, and a disturbing chain of events is triggered.
This is a masterfully woven whodunnit with wild rollercoaster thrills for all and big surprises throughout the story- and the villain is cleverly hidden in plain sight.
Stacy M. jones is a marvelous mystery writer and her characters sparkle and her novels shine (almost as brightly as the pups who share those names😜). An excellent cozy mystery and an absolutely worthwhile read
I think it’s a very good thing in a series when you turn the last page on a book and are already looking ahead with anticipation to what’s going to happen next for those characters you’ve gotten to know.
It’s always interesting to see how Harper and Hattie use their ‘gifts’ in their investigations. In this installment, Harper rather reluctantly is drawn into finding out who murdered one of the mean girls from her past. Hattie has always referred to the three girls who mercilessly tormented Harper back in high school as the Sinister Sisters. Age hasn’t changed them at all, but when the spirit of the murdered woman appears to Hattie, she and Harper feel compelled to find her murderer.
This is another well written, character driven addition to this series.
I love, love, love this series! Every time a new book in this series comes out, I think the exact same thing. I wish there was a real “Hattie’s” in Little Rock. I have such a vivid feeling of kinship for the characters and this little shop in the Heights. And to top it off, Harper has another mystery to solve…and it involves three bullies from her past. Hmmm…karma?? I love how this story twists around these past relationships, the competitive restaurant scene, and sleuthing. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so please just pick this book up ASAP. It also launched at the perfect time. It’s a book that reads like Christmas hot chocolate and Santa’s cookies.
I read this book overnight- it's the sixth in a series and NOW I MUST READ THE OTHER FIVE BOOKS.
Harper and her Aunt Hattie have gifts... if you consider seeing and speaking to ghosts or having visions a gift.
Twenty years after high-school, the mean girls have not moved on. They're still immature, insecure bitches who manage to pull Harper and Hattie into the who dunnit of murder, long lost family recipies and cut throat resrauntuers. Add in talking to the dearly and not so dearly departed you have a fast paced, interesting book that can be read as a stand alone book.
This book didn't disappoint. Hattie and Harper are once again drug into a murder investigation. This time it brings back memories and a rivalry from high school that Harper's not keen to bring to the present. We see Harper's abilities expand even more to a point where she's scared herself and Sarah's life takes a great turn after Jackson decides to move forward with Harper. I love this series. Its a leave you guessing til the end mystery wrapped up in a great storyline of family love and dedication.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I find that, as I get older, I like mysteries, but I don't like to read stories where the protagonists are in serious danger. This series recognizes that some people have paranormal gifts that come in handy to keep them and others safe. I like to think that our loved ones look out for us after they pass from this world, just like the characters in these books. I will keep reading this series as long as the author keeps writing.
Hattie & Harper have their hands full figuring out this murder mystery of who killed one of the sinister sisters. There are lots of surprises in this story that really kept me guessing without much success. I loved the book but didn't begin to figure out who the murder was. Very well written!! I received an ARC. This is my voluntary opinion.
People from Harpers past come back to haunt her & Hattie, one of them literally. They along with the rest of the crew join forces again to figure things out before they get worse. Love this series it’s so awesome. The characters and setting are fantastic. The ending to this one was great. I can’t wait to read the next one!!
The storyline for each new book gets better every time. The mystery this time stayed a mystery till the end. I changed my idea of who-done-it about 4 times! Also, I just LOVE the main characters! The new characters each book are great, too. Can’t wait to read the next one!
well Harper and Hattie are at it again Murder mayhem suspense and inability to control her powers Harper seeks to solve the murder of a bully from her past very entertaining and a great addition to this series
Alive and dead, they complicate this story from beginning to end. With more lies from everyone than Hallie, Harper and Detective Granger can sort through, they solving this one a true struggle. When Hattie is kidnapped can Harper save her?Hard to put down!
Witches, Tarot readings, and Baked goods... Some of my favorite things; so what's not to like? Ms. Jones tells an amazing Gale and I can't get enough of this series. I'll be reading her other's soon.
This series is so entertaining and well written. I love how this author keeps you guessing until the end. Harper, Jackson, Hattie, Sarah, and Tyson are all smart and enjoyable characters. Love this series!
Relatable dealing with bullies in school and then seeing them later in life. Love that this all worked out and that the main character didn’t forget even though she forgave.
