Roman Knight is a man of his word. When he swore to take care of his sister’s daughter, he meant it. And one fateful day gave him a chance to keep his promise. Quitting his job with the FBI, Roman moved across the country to tackle his hardest assignment yet—becoming a single parent.

Stevie Michaels is no stranger to sacrifice. Defined by her horrific and unusual past, all she wants is to live a normal life under the radar. So, she accepts an ordinary, unassuming nanny position for a newcomer in town. But when she meets Roman, it’s clear that wanting the dangerously handsome and adorably attentive single dad is one more sacrifice she’s going to have to make. A man like him could never want a woman like her.

Roman never expected the shy, attractive nanny to consume his thoughts or to be the missing piece to his newly-formed family. So, he pursues her—her hesitation no match for his steadfast persistence.

But someone doesn’t like their newfound happiness. And when Stevie ends up in the crosshairs of a serial killer, Roman will have to accept her broken past or risk losing the best part about his future.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

This book is problematic. We have a butter FMC who can't hold a conversation without melting around MMC. And of course a virgin but one who begged half of the book for sex. After every kiss and blowjobs he's sorry. Very definition of doormat this girl. It was hard to read. And with big boobs and it has to be mention every single page. Even after the attack it was mentioned how her tits trembled when she shuddered WTF 🤷‍♀️ you won't be able to forget that she has big boobs.
I didn't like how her profession was stated here. Roman's reaction. I just couldn't help but feel it was shamed. And ultimately she got into trouble for that and our MMC has to save the day "classic damsel in distress" but this just showed she can't take care of herself as previously implied.
They call it heat I say the juvenile effort to build the connection before smut which overshadowed every other angle of the story. I kinda skimmed the first sex scene. And the second was so atrocious. He'll be sliding an inch on each orgasm from her. So obviously book boyfriends with big cocks but let us go with 7-8 thn 7-8 orgasm before it's in?🙂 Ok fellas I don't know what to think about that scene.

And the reveal. My god the reveal when she told everyone her father is the serial killer. No one blamed her except oh our own roman the Hero of the story who claimed he loves her and all. He not only blamed her and got angry he also doubted her and accused her. And it was at the rear end so I knew no matter how bad he acts there won't be any groveling for this. Not to my satisfaction.
Only 1⭐ for precious Lainey. That girl can have my heart.

I literally have no words… I loved this book so much. Don’t let the cover fool you… this book had so much depth to it that you would never guess by looking at this cover.

Roman’s sister and her husband died in a car accident, leaving only their six-year-old daughter Laniely alive. This leaves Roman as the new guardian for his niece Laniely. As you can imagine, these two have so much trauma to work through. Reading about Laniely leaves you feeling melancholy at all times.

This new territory, and he’s in desperate need of help. He hires Stevie as his new nanny, and she quickly forms a great connection with Leniely that her uncle can’t seem to have after the accident. Without giving too much, Stevie has her secrets that she’s running from that come to hunt her in this book.

Thoughts:
This book is straight-up SAD. There’s no way to put it. True to this book's name, all these characters are broken. They all collectively and individually deal with so much trauma I felt awful for them. When you think they’re going to be happy, Stevie’s past comes back and slams all the progress they’ve made.

I didn’t even know how this book could have a HEA with everything happening. The way this story plays out leaves you feeling satisfied with its ending and just wanting more from this story. I didn’t want it to end. I loved these characters so much and am going to miss them.

You guys need to add this to your TBR! As always, check TWs before reading! 💛

Another Covington Security winner! Dare I say, Roman is up there in the running for my number 1 CS guy with Dexter!

First off, this is one of my favorite tropes - boss/nanny. Roman has been a workaholic for his entire life and relationships/kids were never in his future until now. Roman has recently gained guardianship of his 6 year old niece Lainey after her parents both passed away. He uprooted his life and quit his dangerous FBI job to move to Carmel and become part of the Covington Security crew.

Stevie has been running from her past for the last seven years. After her mother discovered heinous things about Stevie’s father/her husband, she took Stevie and ran away. They changed their name and completely started over in hopes of never seeing him again.

Fast forward to the present and Stevie is all alone trying to make ends meet. Her mother passed away years ago, so she is truly alone. She applies to be a nanny for Lainey even though she has no experience. Roman is skeptical at first, but then Stevie is about to get Lainey to open up after she hasn’t spoken out loud to anyone since her parents passed away.

While Stevie is home with Lainey, Roman goes back to work full time and is still finishing up a case with the FBI about a decades long serial killer.

Stevie is the glue that brings Roman and Lainey back together. She encourages them both and forces them to lean on each other during the traumatic time that they are both going through. While doing that, the sexual pull between Stevie and Roman is undeniable. Once their relationship starts, it gets so big so fast! Will they be able to trust each other and lean on each when it matters most? Or will they be doomed before they even begin?

I loved this book so much. Stevie and Roman’s relationship was chefs kiss 💋. You can tell from the very beginning how attracted they are to each other and how much they hold off for the sake of Lainey.

When the conflict happens, my heart breaks for everyone involved. In the end, they all get their happily ever after, but the journey there was nerve wrecking. The epilogue was awesome!!

I loved seeing all of the other Covington Security couples (especially see Rocco and Carina a lot) and of course, my main man Dexter. I am looking forward to reading Reed’s book next!

I was so disappointed by this book. The plot points were interesting (who doesn't love a good serial killer story?!)...but there was little plot. And I don't mind an instalove story, but this was instalust and Roman just came off as gross. I like a good spicy book but there has to be plot to balance the sex. 2/3 of this book was either Roman graphically wanting to have sex with the nanny, or Roman having sex with the nanny. And every other description of how he talked was "rasped." C'mon...there are lots of other descriptive words out there!

SPOILER BELOW:
There is a major plot hole with how the serial killer finds Stevie. It's never explained how he knew her identity from the lawsuit.

I only finished this one because I'm a series completionist.

*Received a copy from Book Sprout for an honest review.

I’ve been waiting for Roman to get his story and I finally got it. Like the rest of the Covington men, he was alpha all the way!

So It picks up where the last book left off. Roman joined the Covington crew after having to care for his niece after her parents are killed in an auto accident. And then enters Stevie who is hired as the nanny. Stevie has some secrets of her own, we do find a few in the prologue.

Another excellent addition to the series. However, I had a feeling what her big secret was. Even so, I was reading on the edge of my seat waiting for things to happen and fall into place.

Now bring on Reed!

This book is part of the Covington series, but can be read as a standalone. The characters do intertwine in the books so it is great to know their backstories. This book focuses on Roman, a former FBI profiler who just gained custody of his niece, Lainey. Unfortunately, Roman’s sister and brother-in-law were killed in a car accident leaving Lainey in his care. Roman begins working at Covington.
Roman needs help with Lainey as she is 6 years old and is withdrawn, eating and sleeping very little. At the recommendation of his coworker, he interviews Stevie. Stevie is able to draw out Lainey a little at a time. Stevie has secrets of her own though. Both Roman and Stevie are attracted to each other but hold off for as long as possible for Lainey’s sake.
This book was intriguing and insightful. I enjoyed the twists and the drama. I felt for little Lainey. This book is most definitely on my reread list!.

Now I love Dr. Rebecca Sharp, but there were several times while reading this book that I wanted to block her on social media and hurl this book into the ocean. The story fits with the narrative of the Covington series, but in my humble opinion, the boss/nanny dynamic should never be included in the romance genre. In a porn search? Sure. Go to town, but within the sacred confines of a book that promises love and devotion- absolutely not. Especially when the phrases used to describe the nanny from the male's boss' POV include how young and pure she is at nearly every interaction they have. "My innocent nanny" is a phrase I would like to scrub from my brain.

Felt disgusted reading this one

I do not like how Roman ended up being at all. He was treating Stevie like a little girl and that disgusted me. He was twice her age and kept calling her “good girl”. I only finished the book to see if he caught the serial killer. Had to skip the sex parts as it made me sick. Not sure why the series started off good and then started having men go after young girls. I think I will end the series right here.

3.5 stars from me. I absolutely loathe age-gap romance. It just does nothing for me. I even delayed reading this one until I had nothing else to read. The characters were interesting, the story was very good, the romance was steamy, but the age gap thing kept me from giving it a higher rating. If you like or don't mind the age gap, get this book and enjoy!

Wowzers! Loved Roman and Stevie's story. It was a superb blend of raw, unadulterated sexiness, heart-melting tenderness, and gut-wrenching pain.

"I was wholly unprepared for the real Roman that lived behind his myriad of walls."

When Stevie Michaels meets Roman Knight to interview as nanny to his orphaned niece, Lainey, she's certain that she's made a bad impression. However, she's astounded when he offers her the job. Grieving the loss of his sister and brother-in-law, both Roman and Lainey struggle to get back to the close relationship they had previously, but Stevie, with her gentleness, patience and imagination, slowly but surely starts to bridge the gap between them. All the while, the adults try to tamp down the burning attraction between them because Roman doesn't have the bandwidth, and Stevie has a secret in her past that could break them.

"I couldn't think straight because my emotions had taken the wheel. Wanting her. Wanting to protect her. Wanting to possess her."

This story was INTENSE! Roman's attraction to Stevie was almost animalistic. He's a guy who thrives on rules and order in his life. The sudden guardianship of his niece throws his life into disarray, as he leaves his FBI job behind for a more stable life at Covington Security in Carmel Cove. There were so many reasons for him to stay away from the nanny, but desire and jealousy closed the gap he was trying to maintain. I actually never thought he would be so alpha - but, let's face it, all the men at Covington are panty-meltingly alpha!

"He made me want to be vulnerable - he made me feel safe to be vulnerable. And if that wasn't the direct shortcut to love, I didn't know what was."

Stevie was so sweet, warm and empathetic. She was also pretty independent, proud and self-sufficient. I loved her thoughtfulness and compassion. She and Roman balanced each other out beautifully. She was the soft to his hard. And, OMG! They were smokin' hot together! 🔥🔥 If you're looking for a suspenseful, super sexy, and heartstring-tugging read, then this is the one for you.

this was spicier than i expected I LOVE IT SO MUCH. roman is someone that needs to take care of the people around him and stevie needs to let someone take care of her after being overly independent.

the praise kink??? everytime he called her a good girl i died. i died even more with every interaction between him and his niece lainey.

the grief portrayed in this book made my heart ache but i love how stevie just fits in so well with the family.

“Please,” I begged with a low rasp. I pretended not to see how she shivered before agreeing; and I pretended not to notice how hard it made me.

“Good girl.” Two little words, innocuous yet illicit. Fuck. I’d just praised my fucking nanny. And not in the normal way. No, not with the husky hunger in my voice that was impossible to hide. Fuck. The phrase was worse than when I said her name. Worse than me touching her. Worse because it told her just how fucking turned on I got when she let me take care of her.

“All I want is to take care of you. Your school. Your home. Your body,” he went on, sounding mindless with desire. “The idea of taking care of you makes me lose my mind… and makes me so fucking hard.”

“And I’m not meant to crave my fucking nanny more than I crave breath. Not meant to kiss her or mark her or fuck her or claim her.”

“Jesus, Stevie,” he ground out. “How much more do you want from me?” Everything. “You don’t want me to feel, you want me to fucking crumble.”

when i said its spicy i didn't lie, roman's dirty talk was VERY explicit and perfect for people with a praise kink

“You want me to lose my mind, then suck on me like a good girl. Suck like you want to swallow me whole.” “This is what you wanted,” he ground out, eyes wild with lust. “Your pretty mouth stuffed full of my cock.” He pushed deeper, hitting that spot again; this time I tried to swallow, but couldn’t. “Is it worth it to be choked in order to see me lose my fucking mind?”

When Roman’s sister and brother in law are killed in a tragic accident he is given full custody of his 6 year old niece. He decides to quit his job with the FBI and move him and his niece to Caramel cove and start working for Covington Security. He is struggling to help his niece who refuses to talk while also working through his own grief.

When Stephanie is 15 years old her mother moves her to another state. With no real explanation other than telling her that her father is a bad man her mother starts over and gives them new identities. From that day forward Stephanie became Stevie. A few years later Stevie’s mother is dying and finally reveals the horrific truth of her father to Stevie. She is devastated by this information but thinking it was handled already she keeps it to herself.

Roman is looking for a nanny for his adorable niece Lainey and ends up being introduced to Stevie. Although she has no experience with children she has an immediate connection to Lainey. Roman and Stevie also have an instant connection but try as hard as they can to not act on it. They have so many things stacked against them but not enough to deny their off the charts chemistry forever. Just when they finally come together and things are working out everything comes crashing down. Stevie has to be honest and Roman has to almost lose everything to realize everything he has and doesn’t want to lose.

This is book 6 in the Covington Security Series. Although you could read it as a stand-a-lone I do think it is better to read as part of the series as many of the characters overlap throughout the books.

--Small town
--Romantic suspense
--Age gap
--Nanny romance
--Tons of steam

The Covington Security series brings intense emotions, gripping suspense and a fantastic group of characters.

In Broken, the Roman Knight has joined Covington Security as a profiler after quitting the FBI’s BAU to become guardian of his 6 year old niece. His sister and brother-in-law were killed in a car accident that their daughter Lainey survived. It’s heartbreaking to watch Roman struggle to connect with his niece after having such a close relationship with her before the accident. She no longer says anything which along with her silent tears are slowly destroying him even more than the loss of his sister.

Stevie is hired to be Lainey’s nanny after working magic and getting her to come out of her room and to actually say a few words. Roman is willing to do anything for his niece, even hire a young woman with zero experience who gets his blood and his libido pumping.

Stevie slowly brings both Lainey and Roman a sense of peace and happiness, and Roman gives in to his overwhelming desire to claim Stevie as his own.

Roman’s decade long hunt for a serial killer is reopened when the bodies are found that match the killer’s signature. He and the Covington Security team assist his former FBI team and dig for answers. When the killer strikes in their town unexpected secrets are revealed and the story gets intense emotionally and the suspense is off the charts.

I really enjoyed this read, especially how this series interconnects with the author’s Reynolds Protective series which I also enjoy.

Holy, holy, holy hotness! This book was tremendous, and 5 stars are not enough! I’ve read all the other books in this series, and this one, in my opinion, is the best!

No spoilers here, but the suspense kept me turning pages while the chemistry and heat between Stevie and Roman had me rereading whole passages multiple times. Chapter 17 was just sizzling!

This is an age-gap romance, but Stevie is far from immature or flighty as many who are her age are prone to be. On the contrary given her past, she’s more mature than many women who are much older. Her level-headedness makes her a good fit for the passionate former BAU agent hell-bent on catching a killer even though it’s no longer his case. Throw in an orphaned 6yo girl who is so inconsolable over the loss of her parents that she stops communicating and cries herself to sleep and you’ve got something for every romance reader.

For those of you who’ve read the other books in this series, it also nice to be able to go back to revisit some of our favorites. Scenes with Carina and Jo along with their men are sprinkled throughout, and any mention of some of my favorite characters puts a smile on my face.

While I couldn’t stop reading, I also didn’t want this to end, and the epilogue absolutely made me long for more! Here’s hoping Reed’s book which is next will provide glimpses in a more detailed future for one of my all-time favorite couples.

AMAZING book by Dr Rebecca Sharp. This book follows Roman Knight as he restarts his life after his sister and brother in law are killed in a car accident, and he assumes guardianship of his niece Lainey. Needing to hire a nanny, his co-workers woman recommends Stevie, who is in college getting her early childhood degree while also driving for Uber, and barely making ends meet. Stevie needs this job badly or she will have to drop all of her college courses. Roman needs a nanny that can connect with Lainey, who refuses to eat or speak to anyone.

Roman is 15 years older than Stevie, and has resolved himself to a life alone. His previous work in the FBI showed that anyone can use your family against you, so he chooses to never want a wife or children out of fear of what might possibly happen to them. He immediately feels a connection to Stevie but fights it because of his fears and his hope to put Lainey first.

Stevie has her own demons. After running with her mom seven years ago and changing her name, she has no idea that her past is on her heels. Stevie and Roman have a connection from her past, and it has the potential to blow up their budding relationship.

The chemistry between Stevie and Roman is outstanding. The 🔥🔥 is quite possibly the best Rebecca has ever written, and that says a lot considering some of my all time favorite books of hers have some incredibly hot scenes in them. But the way Stevie and Roman save one another as they build their relationship is just amazing. This is, hands down, my favorite Dr Rebecca Sharp book to date.

I am a long-time lover of Rebecca and her work. I have read a majority of her books throughout the years, and I have really enjoyed watching how her writing has grown. This author also has perfected one of my favorite series types, an interconnected standalone series. I adore watching characters you’ve previously loved progress, seeing babies born, weddings and life continuing. I just love it. Broken is no exception.

After losing his sister and gaining custody of his orphaned niece, Roman is floundering. Doing his best to be strong from his niece and wok through his own grief, he is still struggling. Enter Stevie… the only one to get his niece to speak. The only one that can break through his grief. The only one who can bring both Roman and his niece back to life. Stevie was just the right person to mend their hearts and bring them all together as a family.

That’s the sweet side, now for the steamy side, because holy hell! Stevie may be innocent, but she responds instinctively to Roman’s dominant tendencies. The way that he praises her… especially when he shouldn’t as he refuses to cross that line, but he just couldn’t help it *SWOON* Take that and add in the instant chemistry and Roman’s protective nature. Perfection!! I loved it, can you tell I loved it? Because if I wasn’t clear I loved this book!

The Covington Security family is a special crew between the boys and their spouses. Once you enter the series you will be hooked!

Holy... where can I order one Roman Knight to go please!

From the first few words up to the very last one, this book has kept me hooked, turning the pages until there was no more. Can we get an epilogue please! I just need more of this couple.

Could this two individuals joined by a tragedy flourish in their undeniable connection or would a horrific past severe their bond and leave them broken.

After a tragedy, Roman had to say goodbye his life as an FBI agent to take care of his young niece and start over a new path at Covington Security.

While Stevie, in desperate need of funds to pave way to her education, grabbed the golden opportunity of a lifetime to be a nanny to Roman
When these two forces meet, oh boy, oh boy... get your fans ready. This will be hot!

Roman and Stevie were inevitable. No matter how much they tug and pull away from each other eventually their feelings for one another would explode and push them together. And what a fall it was! Once Roman surrendered to his feelings, Stevie did not stand a chance. He was relentless in his pursuit and boy was that beyond the charts HOT!

This book was definitely not something I wanted to put down. Roman is another great addition to the series and I cannot wait for Reed's turn.

Stevie and Roman seem like an unlikely pair when they first meet. She is passionate about teaching and wants to be a nanny to do something more in line with her degree. Roman is suddenly a parent to his 6-year-old niece and needs help to navigate this new world. At the same time, he’s left his job as a profiler with the FBI and is now working on cases with Covington Securities. His initial reaction to Stevie is no way can he hire her but then a miracle happens and Lainey speaks to her, the first person she’s talked to since her parents died. As Stevie gets pulled more and more into Roman and Lainey’s life, the boundaries of boss and employee get blurrier as they both struggle to deny the attraction that they feel. As they try to find their way through this new challenge, Roman is pulled into an old case that has resurfaced which is intense and unexpected. Stevie is also learning how to trust again and realize it’s ok to ask for help. My heart hurt for Lainey and I love how her grieving is a critical component to Roman as he finds his footing in this new life. Grief is a such a personal thing and for every situation and person it’s a different process. For me, what I experienced and felt through Lainey was very real and authentic. I was swept up into this story and didn’t want to stop reading it.

“We don’t get to choose the darkness that lives in all of us, but we do get to choose to focus on the light.” - Roman

This book is about unforeseen events, which lead to finding your true place in life - A throwaway conversation six years ago becoming reality. How one fateful night can define the rest of your life…

Roman Knight took in his niece after her parents was killed in a car accident. He had just lost his sister, his only family. he didn’t know how to grieve or how to help his niece grieve the loss of both of her parents. Until Stevie came along…

Stevie Michaels was a girl hiding from her past & just trying to move on in life after her mother passed away. She was looking for her purpose in this world, working different jobs to pay for her college tuition until her friend suggested babysitting Roman’s niece.

Everything become tangled… their feelings & their bodies til her dad threatened to ruin everything. Im soo happy that they get their own little happy ending with her pregnancy!!

“It makes you crumble and retreat, afraid to trust and grow and feel until someone comes along, unafraid to grab hold of your pointy corners and sharp edges, unafraid to soothe you until you stretch, and love you until you unfold.” - Roman

When Roman Knight’s sister and brother-in-law were killed in a car accident, he stepped in as guardian to his six-year-old niece Lainey. Committed to his work in FBI’s BAU and specifically the open Archangel serial killer case that’s moving into California now. But Lainey needs him and he needs help; she hasn’t spoken, rarely eats, sleeps or leaves her room for the month her parents have been dead. Surprisingly and untested, unqualified nanny seems to be working out for them.

Stephanie ‘Stevie’ Michaels was home-schooled until she was 15, through high school by religious parents in a barely populated town. One day while her dad’s holding service at church, Stevie’s mom has her pack so they can leave quickly, and change their names on the way. The tells Stevie her dad is a bad man and she has to protect herself against him. Three years later, Stevie’s works toward her degree and is offered Roman nanny position though she’s grossly unqualified.

As Roman and Stevie try not to be wrapped up in each other to the exclusion of every and any one else, the Archangel serial killer makes his way to the local area and a classmate or two of Stevie’s become victims.

I have some mixed feelings about this book because frankly, I enjoyed my time reading it but there were some glaring issues. I really liked Roman's hunt for the serial killer. The pacing of that suspense plot worked well with the relationship building. But that was honestly the only thing that worked well.

I wanted to like the characters more. But the dynamics between Roman and Stevie just didn't work well. Stevie being a virgin because of the religious trauma heaped on her by her father, but she still threw herself at a man who fooled around with her only to rejected her right afterwards. Frankly, I just about threw the book when Stevie gave Roman a blow job and then he told her to go back to the guest house to handle her own finish. Like, excuse me?

It was just a back and forth with Roman that solidified that he was a jerk and Stevie was a doormat. The age gap was nonissue because Roman was immature in his feelings and how he responded to people when he was actually made to recognize how he felt. He was unkind, thoughtless, and in desperate need of therapy. Stevie was spineless, bland, and also in need of therapy. Not at all what I expected from this author.

Couldn’t stop turning the pages

I really enjoyed this book (and Roman may just be headed to the top of my panty melter list the dirty boy!!)

An intriguing storyline which, whilst not entirely predictable, unfolds as expected but with some little surprises in there.

I liked the characters and thought that the author portrayed the emotions of grief really well and in a touching way but not that it overshadowed the theming of the story overall.

Strong and alpha I loved the angst element towards the end and Romans fall from grace, though his rescue speak was heartmelting

Hot, hotter and hottest this book bears the rest of the series hands down in that regard, though there was one scene that I felt mildly uncomfortable with as it felt a little dub con to me.

Reed and Rorik still to come I’m guessing and a clue dropped in to the red head that will end Reed’s bachelor days I’m certain.

I love this series and this latest offering is no exception They are always fast paced thrillers that delve into the human aspect but don't get me wrong there is plenty of suspense as well

Roman Knight made the decision to leave the FBI after the death of his sister and BIL as he didn't want to be working such a dangerous job while caring for his niece. He has joined Covington Security but is also tying up cases for the FBI still. Roman and Stevie are broken individuals but for different reasons. Roman's brokenness stems from his job and loss of family whereas Stevie's stems from not only her family but life itself. These two connect when Stevie interviews for the position of Roman's nanny. He lost his sister and in doing so gained custody of his niece who is undergoing challenges no child her age should have to. Roman is skeptical of hiring Stevie but when she breaks through his niece shell, he hires her on the spot, and it will start their journey. It is one that is filled with twists and turns that kept me glued to my seat and when Roan goes on the haunt for a serial killer, Stevie will have to make a decision about whether she should come clean about her past life and how it effects Roman's current case. This is an intense story. It is descriptively well written with characters that are inspiring, intriguing and had me connecting with.

Good Girl Age Gap Erotica Trope

This book was just a little raunchy with the Good Girl Age Gap Trope. I just didn’t think the 37 year old, Roman, came across as someone who would be attracted to his 22 year old virgin nanny in such a smarmy, raunchy way. The older man lusting for a naughty “Good Girl,” came across as a weird out of the blue perverted persona. This was even more unrealistic in his new role as guardian of his newly orphaned niece. I think he could have been attracted to the younger nanny, without the “Good Girl” erotica being the focus. Even the progression of the sexual relationship seems far-fetched, particularly related to Stevie’s pious upbringing. To top it all off, the parallel suspense plot was very predictable and highly coincidental. All-in-all the book was too contrived and very erotically focused, but I did enjoy the secondary characters, and their love and support of Roman’s niece-Lainey. Her healing and story of finding her new family was the highlight of the entire book.

Hmm…3 1/2 ⭐️s

I really love all the books in this series, but Broken was my least favorite. Stories about serial killers are never easy to read. However, there was another thing that really ticked me off: the routine use of “good girl” as praise for sexual favors. Sorry, but “good girl” or “good boy” are things you say to praise a DOG, not a person. To me, it’s just so demeaning.

Then there was the startling statement that Stevie’s mom sent a letter to Lee just before she died. WHAT?? This was never explained—crucial, since that’s apparently how Lee traced Stevie.

My favorite character was Lainey—what a sweetheart, and so genuine. Much more so than Stevie and Roman, who came across as somewhat artificial in the love story. Stevie was a complete sexual innocent, but within a few days she’s banging Roman like a pro? Also, Roman was so head-over-heels in lust, it was creepy (at least to me).

I realize this is a fantasy romance, but I just couldn’t quite extend disbelief enough to enjoy this book like I enjoyed others in this series.

Once upon a time there was a princess and a pirate...
that's the story. And it's amazing. I've been curious about young Stevie since we first met her as the uber driver for the girls in town. Something about her drew me in and I was so happy to see that we got her story. What a story it was!! while I guessed the ending very fast, I think you were supposed to, it didn't stop me from being obsessed with how we got there.
Roman became a new addition to the team after his sister passed and left her 6 year old daughter to him. Stevie becomes his nanny. So of course it's forbidden but it's also an age gap(she's 22 & he's 37). The little girl, Lainey, is such a wonderful addition to the story and watching Roman grow from a workaholic with no plans to ever let anyone get close, to a dad figure that wants more was heartwarming. Stevie has her own troubled past and when it crashes with Roman's past it gets wild!
As always, the spice is superb! I very much enjoyed the more realistic spicy scenes in this book.

Roman Knight, ex FBI profiler now a guardian to his niece, who is trying to keep his head above water, struggles with emotions, is now in need of a nanny. Stevie is hired to help Roman take care of his niece and she tries so hard to keep her attraction professional, but sometimes fate steps in and changes things for us. With secrets and pasts that haunt them they both help each other heal, yet Stevie’s past is one she intends to keep locked away forever, except now her past is out to get her. Can Roman help Stevie and can her trust or will it all fly away when the truth comes to light? This was amazing, suspenseful, tragic, yet beautiful. Roman was a tough guy but when we got to see underneath that exterior, he was the perfect man. Stevie was kind, smart, and had a heart of gold that was willing to do whatever it took to make others smile and together these two just fit. I can’t wait to see what is next.
