The Personification of Death
Grief-stricken over the loss of his wife and daughter during the September 11 attack, genetic scientist Jim Randle seeks revenge. His vengeance comes with the discovery of the century-old hybrid remains which hold the genetic key to completing his latest work—the most prolific killing machine the world has ever known. A creature capable of eradicating terrorist camps on foreign soil without leaving a trace of U.S. involvement. But when Randle’s ungodly creation gets loose stateside, there’s one question that no one can answer …
How do you stop something engineered with an insatiable lust to kill, and is impervious to the weapons of man?
Detective Pine better figure it out, fast.
The human neurons multiplying in the creature’s brain are making it smarter and deadlier by the hour.

This book in incredible and just Wow! It has a hold of you from the very first page and doesn't let you go until the very last page. There is so much information that you learn that afterwards you aren't going to be sure you want to have ever heard of it. But once you've heard it you can't just forget it. It's scary as neck and you know in your heart it's going on right now in today's world. Makes me want to just hide but they can truly find you anywhere. Russ Elliott you are one neck of a great author. Scary but great...
This was a great story. Got me caring about the characters from the start. The protagonist was great. A detective who got picked on because of his size, but that was capable and dedicated, without being a super cop. The love interest was also an interesting character. Rubbed me the wrong way in a couple of places, but that's OK, I don't like everyone I meet. The story was very engaging and trapped me from the first chapter. Now, this particular book needs editing. A lot of editing. I can overlook a mistake here and there, but changing the name of one of the main characters for one of the victims and then back again, nope, sorry, that's unacceptable. There were other mistakes that made it through. Silly things even, like spelling on as 0n, yes, with a zero. These mistakes pull you right out of the story and take away from an otherwise very good novel. Now, please be advised: spoiler alert!!!
The ending is incredibly soft. I saw the pages dwindling and figured the ending would be abrupt, but I got no ending. Nothing gets settled. Not a good way to finish a book. If the idea is to make this into a series... This is not the way.
Scary and in the age of science and genetic engineering this could happen. Good story well thought out liked the characters. Not for the faint of heart very gory. It has been left open for a sequel. I have read this author before and he does a very nice job of laying out the story. Very faced paced I read this in 4 days. Well done.
this scared the hell out of me because this shit is happening now and just because you can doesn't always mean you should. not a good idea to mess with mother nature, nice twist at the end.
I struggled with this one a little bit but I think that's because of work related stress along with some good ole fashioned home owners drama around the ole homestead.
Anyway this was a solid Sci-fi book with plenty of action and gore. Some of the characters were stereo types but it was easy to work past those. Also after reading this I did a little research and was shocked to see that thanks to modern science, this book isn't as far into the fiction realm as I thought.
I can get good parts from this book. The characters needed more work, they just jump from one place to another leaving the reader confuse in things like, who is the main?
The story is likable, some parts seem a little forced but is netter than most monster books.
Keeping out 2 stars for all the inconsistencies, but 3 stars is not bad
Easily one of the worst books I have read in recent memory...... The author has a juvenile prose that lends itself to over-use of simple terms, words, and phrases that lead me down a path of a junior high essay instead of a novel. An example is the use of the word "hollered," which is used approximately 100 times in this book. Ugh! Frustrating, and stupid to be kind.
Wow! This was completely unexpected. I've always enjoyed 1950s-1980s Creature Feature movies and now I find I love reading such books. Yes you have to suspend reality to get the most enjoyment while reading these books and watching the movies. But that's a big part of the fun - the escapism they let you disappear into.
Just looking at the cover I thought I was going to be reading about some type of mutant warthog. I'd tried reading a similar story a week earlier but it didn't hold my attention. Then there are all the secrets, lies, and frustrating hard-headedness. I highly recommend this book to Creature Feature fans.
A mish-mash of DNA from different animals and what do you get? An over-used and oft-repeated storyline. Science creates monsters, the military tries to control them. But obviously cannot control and a slightly broken hero is needed. The gore and violence live up to the basic plot but nothing more. The ending was almost predictable but with a slight twist, to open a possible sequel. A decent read, if you are on an airplane with a few hours to kill
This is one book you must read if you love the creature/horror genre. I loved everything about this book from the creature to the characters. I would love to see this made into a movie. Following along with the escaped creature kept me reading on and on. And, speaking of reading on and on, I hope there will be a sequel.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The characters are good and although I wasn't quite sure how it would wrap up I do like hThatw it left it. P!ease revisit this for a part two.
This was a outstanding science fiction book. Has enough genetics information to make it believable. Packed with action so that you couldn’t wait to read the next page.
War Child presents a new and inventive look into the monsters among us. Well developed characters help to bring to life a strong display of one man's attempt to bring resolution to his despair from his losses during 9/11 by creating something to bring vengeance upon the enemies of the US. Discover the history behind this creation.
I really don’t enjoy this. I cannot express my lack of enthusiasm for this task. I really would prefer to just give a certain amount of stars to it and be done. Without this additional burden, I would have given the book an extra star. Hope the author does well on his next
This story reminded me of the Watchers by Clive Barker, but this enjoyed it much more. The fresh take with modern perspectives just breathes new life into it. Would LOVE to see the monster on a theatre screen!
Best book I've read in the last 5 years!!! Unless there's a sequel the ending doesn't do the book justice at all. I'm going to follow this author and read much more of his work.
In general abit predictable storyline but I love a good monster story. This was a good and exciting read… I think one of the best parts was the detective’s parting acknowledgment to the Sargent.
It's always a gamble when an author creates cryptid story from scratch. However, this one worked very well after a good deal of backstory. Brutal and brilliant
Great job of blending science fact with science fiction. Characters are believable and he doesn't overuse dialogue to fill in empty spaces. Non-stop action. Would make a great movie.
It grabbed me and never let go! As a person with biological and geological education, I found the ramifications of the story cringe inducing. Great entertainment with real basis in facts.
It’s a definite yes if action, blood sweat and tears and the unbelievable is your type of thing…I loved this book and would recommend more novels by this author. Fantastic.Russ Elliot, you have a gift.
Wow! I'd love to see this turned into a movie. It would be spectacular. No one is going to mistake this for literature. But it's one hell of an action packed story.
