War is on our doorstep. The odds have never been so bleak.
The Dark Goddess invades from the south, an unstoppable army of ghouls at her command. Darkwinter gathers in the north, their attack imminent. Rebel factions divide the realm, undermining Keradoc’s rule and leaving Midnight ripe for invasion.
And with every passing night, we sink deeper into the torments of our own souls, the secrets of the past as dangerous as the enemies of the present.
Love and loyalty have seen us through the worst of Midnight’s brutalities, but it’s no longer just me and my fierce, protective monsters. Our fates are now bound to the realm and its warlord—a cruel, enigmatic fae harboring dark secrets of his own.
Secrets that will either help us win this war…
Or destroy everything we’re risking our lives, our hearts, and our very souls to save.
Sarah Piper is a witchy, Tarot-card-slinging paranormal romance and urban fantasy author. Through her signature brew of dark magic, heart-pounding suspense, and steamy romance, Sarah promises a sexy, supernatural escape into a world where the magic is real, the monsters are sinfully hot, and the witches always get their magically-ever-afters.
Readers have dubbed her work “super sexy,” “imaginative and original,” “off-the-walls good,” and “delightfully wicked in the best ways,” a quote Sarah hopes will appear on her tombstone.
Sarah lives in New York with her husband, where she spends her days sleeping like a vampire and her nights writing books, casting spells, gazing at the moon, playing with her ever-expanding collection of Tarot cards, and obsessing over the best way to brew a cup of tea.
I can’t get enough of The Witch’s Monsters series! Blood & Madness, book three in the series, is just as thrilling, action packed and suspenseful as the first two books. Haley Barnes, a blood witch, is still being held captive by Keradoc, the Warlord of Midnight. Along for the ride are her men – Elian, Hudson and Jax. Elian is in dire straits after going on a spree of destruction that almost ended his own life. Her long ago love for him has been tarnished by his behavior but has never completely faded, and she is still so fiercely loyal to him. While his friends help him recover, Haley spends more time with Keradoc and begins to feel an even greater connection to him. She agrees to help him in his effort to keep his realm safe and defeat the dark goddess Melantha who has evil plans for both Midnight and Haley herself. After surviving a harrowing, near death experience, Haley demands an explanation from Elian as to why he left her years ago. He finally gives in and his story is one of sadness and deep loyalty to his twin brother Evander that pulled him away on a rescue mission and ultimately resulted in sacrificing his chance of ever truly being with Haley again. In the end, they all head to the mountains to help Keradoc (or the man who seems to be Keradoc) in his quest. Along the way, more secrets are revealed, passion is shared and lives are changed. It’s such a thrilling ride with a heart stopping ending that will make you desperate for more of Midnight.
Sarah Piper writes amazing stories and builds fantastic worlds with unique characters, but she also has a talent for creating the hottest, steamiest love scenes. When Haley and Hudson (the strong, broody gargoyle) get it on, beds are broken, hearts are bonded and minds are melted! It was worthy of a re-listen before I could move on. And when Haley admits her love for all three of her monsters and the desire to share it together, the passion and heat is ramped up even more. She was already a fierce, passionate, strong woman and the love of her men inspires and strengthens her even more.
I loved the narration by Mackenzie Cartwright, Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke and Aaron Shedlock! They brought each of these intriguing, unique characters to life in the most perfect way. Their fear, anger, love and passion is so palpable and filled with emotion. I have loved the dark beautiful world of Midnight and the incredible stories that Sarah Piper has brought us in this amazing series. I’m both excited and a little afraid to see what happens next!
I am at a loss for words. I can't believe that ending!! Sarah Piper, what have you done?? I immediately went into book 4 because I was NOT ending on that note. No way.
Okay but while I'm still freaking out about the ending, I'll try to coherently put together my thoughts on the rest of the book!
There were REALLY good smut scenes in this book. Like REALLY good! And Haley has a new monster which I love! The story is progressing really well. I hope there is a bit more action in book 4 since book 3 definitely felt more about the relationships, which I'm fine with! I'm glad she has gotten closer to her monsters and that her and Elian are talking about why he left her years ago. Everything was looking hopeful! And then the ending happened and I can't even register it! I'm officially combining book 3 and 4 so that the ending in this book doesn't feel so finite. Is that crazy?? Probably, but oh well!
First of all, I am still reeling from this ending because that was a jaw-dropper but at the same time, what a captivating thrill ride this has been so far with Sarah Piper´s WITCH´S MONSTERS series! The suspenseful mystery just keeps on gripping me, along with the deliciously layered steam and emotions of this RH romance. Sarah´s built of this dark world of Midnight and plot development is fascinating. Blood & Madness is action-filled with unexpected new twists and turns the farther the journey takes you. Hayley and her monsters are continuously dealing with further threats, their own internal demons, more heartbreak, betrayal, and surprising revelations which also brings them closer together in more ways than one as the spice and steam between the bedsheets do not disappoint at all.
I am loving the audio production and listening to this brilliant multicast, so much. Their combined talent is giving us a magnificent audio experience and each of these voice actors continue to bring Sarah´s fantastic story to life by conveying every feeling and emotion to perfection. From all the delicious protective growliness of Aaron Shedlock "aka the demon Jax" and Jason Clarke "aka *Gargs* Hudson" to the sassy determined badassery of Mackenzie Cartwright "ake Hayley the blood witch" down to Teddy Hamilton whose performance of the fae vampire Elian & evil demon warlord Keradoc just stole the show for me in this one. There are chapters that were incredibly emotional and he just portrayed the power of these emotions so beautifully, my heart was hurting for him, plus I loved the way he imitated Keradoc.
Now, I am eagerly waiting for the intriguing conclusion of Blood & Magick to wrap up this bewitching series.
4.5 stars. This book moved along much faster than the last one. Thank god. There was a lot of tension, a few answers finally, a revelation that took WAY too fucking long, in my opinion. That shit was so obvious, I really don’t understand why it took so fucking long, especially after the answers that Elian gave Haley. I was expecting the lightbulb to turn on right then. But nooooo, it took hours and orgasms later for her to figure it the fuck out. By the time things were happening about it I was just rolling my eyes and trying not to sigh too fucking loudly. *sigh* I did actually enjoy this. Getting to see the characters interact more, and more openly at that, was really enjoyable and made the book’s pace feel a lot smoother and faster than the last. The sex was steamy and had some good moments of dirty talk. The scene that intrigued me to even start this series, that I was on TikTok, finally happened and it was definitely enjoyable. I was sort of hoping it would be a lot dirtier than it was, but I still liked it. Which is basically how I feel about the whole series. I wish it was smuttier, dirtier, but I do like it.
The plot is heating up. Speeding up. We finally got a few answers to some of the big things thatve been happening. But we also have more questions to answer now with the threat from the south heading towards them. That cliffhanger ending that I don’t understand how they’re going to come back from.
I’m gonna be reading the last book for sure. I just hope it keeps the momentum and doesn’t flop at the end like so many other series like this I’ve read recently. Seems to be an overreaching problem in the genre.
After listening to this, I can't wait for the 4th book in The Witch's Monsters series, but I also don't want this hot, adventurous and entertaining series to end! The twists and turns, the adventure, the intimacy - I want it all to last forever, but I have to know how it ends, too!
Blood and Madness is a perfect third act. Ramped up action and suspense that sets the stage for an epic final act. Haley is still dealing with Keradoc, and Elian, Hudson and Jax are doing all they can to fight along side her. Elian's relationship with this crew is healing as revelations come to light, Haley is working with Keradoc to take on Melantha and save Midnight, and the world that Sarah Piper has built is full of fantasy, action, peril, adventure and amazing relationships that get our fantastic cast through. Small moments of humor keep the tone from getting overwhelmingly heavy, while the fast pace keeps your heart rate up.
Hudson, the strong, silent, passionate gargoyle, is still my favorite of Haley's men. It's not wonder Haley is in love with all of them. They each have unique qualities, as well as unwavering loyalty and love. They make an amazing team in all aspects of this story.
The narration continues to amaze me. Mackenzie Cartwright, Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke and Aaron Shedlock are some of the best narrators in the business, and they really bring the story to life. It is such a fantastic story to experience in audio.
You know when you read a series and you literally can't wait for the next book because the witch bitch of an author leaves you on yet another mother of all cliffhangers but you forgive her because she's your witch bitch!?! Yep that's this series.
In book 3 of the Witch's Monsters series, we learn more about Keradoc, how his relationship with Haley and her monsters evolves. Haley and her men take it up a notch after a death defying feat rattles all of them but brings them closer, alot closer, wink wink.
I just love this series, it has everything; witches, dark magic, sex, vampires, gargoyles, demons, sex, amazing writing, sex, fantastic narration by Teddy Hamilton, Aaron Shedlock, Jason Clarke and Mackenzie Cartwright.
I have listened to the Audio version and read the book and this review stands for both.
Gah! This just gets better and better! This fast paced, steamy, dark fantasy romance was an entertaining and thrilling story to listen to on audio. Sarah Piper writes captivating story filled with witty, sexy banter, action filled twists and turns, and some steamy scenes that will leave you panting for more. We get to see a new side of Keradoc that will make you like him. There are so many new layers that develop in this story and and the cliffhanger is shocking. I loved this on audio! Mackenzie,Jason, Teddy, and Aaron are phenomenal in their performances of Haley, Hudson, Elian/Keradoc, and Jax. They brought this story to life. Teddy as both Elian and Keradoc was incredible. Both characters are tortured souls and long for Haley’s affection, Teddy captured them wonderfully. Can’t wait to see how their story ends!
** ALC received in exchange for an honest review **
My heart can't take much more.... Sarah is torturing me with this ending. But I'm happy to know I have answers to questions that I've long expected to be true and love interests are spiked or fixed and I love that even more, but it's that ending that I just can't handle. It broke me and I wanted to scream and cry all at the same time.
I'll be the first to admit that reverse harem just aren't going to be a thing for me. I still don't understand or see what is so special, mind-altering, or interesting about Haley because damn are all these men swooning for her. Even Kerodac is thrown in the romance concoction, but that wasn't a shocking surprise I expected it from the beginning.
Honestly, I expected a fierce female MC fighting alongside the men she bonded with and some smutt tossed in, but that is the opposite of what I assumed. And while there are moments of her bloodthirsty nature and strong willpower it's only momentarily.
While the reverse-harem storyline did not hinder my reading experience, I just wanted a little more than just some unspoken connection and a throbbing between the legs. Also, this isn't the reason I took two-stars from the book.
Some of the twist and turns were unexpected and even gruesome, so at times the storyline kept me on my feet. But oh boy, did the pace drag as well in this one.
So, interesting how at times the characters say they have no time to dally but have time to f*** for a moment.
Aside from the mention of the Dark Goddess and her army not even the beginning of a battle was seen. Then, when we finally have Jax, Elian, and Hudson working as one it fades to black. I was expecting the cliffhanger to finally be a blood battle with little hope of survival.
But no, just no, some poor excuse of a shock factor. One that I am not content with because this character was finally given some backstory as to the past choices and what lead them to their undoing.
Aside from that poor excuse of an ending, I was excited to get backstory from other characters as well, and while I predicted Kerodac's past it was also confusing because of his similarity and not confronting it.
Overall, and personally, these books are just dragged way too much and while I will continue (what I hope to be the last book) I don't think I'll be picking up anything else from this author.
Lots of secrets from many of the characters were publicly revealed to other members in their group, and Keradoc was finally thrown into the romance mix. While the twists and turns were fun and not always predictable, the overall pacing was problematic to me. There was absolutely no progress on the Melandra goddess war front, just lots of discussion and talk about what to do. The arguments that Keradoc tried to use on Haley to convince her to help the realm were very weak IMO, but hey, it got her to do what he wanted. I found a lot of characters just to be annoying at this point, and the arguments they had with each other were quite repetitive. The ending cliffhanger was absolutely terrible.
I'll continue the series in an attempt for closure and see how everyone gets out of their respective issues, but if it drags on much longer, I'll likely abandon the series. ------ Ratings - completed series: #1 Blood and Midnight: ★★★★☆ #2 Blood and Malice: ★★★☆☆ #3 Blood and Madness (this book): ★★★☆☆ #4 Blood and Magick: ★★★☆☆
Blood and Madness was amazing and heart breaking and sexy as hell. This series keeps getting better. I’m obsessed with Haley, Elian, Jax, and my quiet protective gargoyle. Yes he’s mine.
There’s something to be said when everything is hard, and you struggle, yet you can still find love, beauty, smiles, and love. That’s the world of Midnight. War is coming, Haley’s magic is on lockdown, and the boys are making drugs to drug the masses. And yet it still all goes sideways. I love everything about Haley, how hard she tries to be fair, and how she is slowly falling a little in love with Keredoc…maybe?
You’re lulled into a sense that things will be ok, that love conquers all and there’s a little respite from the storm….until you go over the cliff on that cliffhanger. Yes I yelled, kicked, and yelled at Sarah. It was incredibly done and you need this stat. Now to wait for more.
G’damn this author knows how to write emotional pain well! There were some DARK moments in here. These characters have been through so much. It makes them all the more interesting and captivating to me. So much better than the perfect archetypes you get in other series.
The books in this series aren’t perfect, but I’m giving out stars for my enjoyment factor, how much the book captivated me, and how much feeling it invoked. The books are a tad short, and there’s a decision or event here and there that I might have preferred done differently. But for those few shortcoming, there’s plenty of other things that I’m loving about this series, so for me it’s top notch.
One more book to go. But I gotta wait til next month for that final book 4. These cliffhangers are killing me!! Or, possibly killing one of the guys, as the case may be. 😧😭
P.S. That hard, dirty, rough sex is written sooo well. Ooof!
I swear Sarah Piper is the queen of cliffhangers!!! She definitely knows how to catch your attention and keep it! I hadn't intended to read through the night, but I just couldn't put down this book!!! This is the 3rd book in this series and I just cannot get enough!! There's alot of revelations, sexy stuff & just all around exciting!! I'm really excited to see where this series ends up!! Definitely worth reading this series!!! Sarah has a knock for drawing you in & keeps you intrigued & anxious for the next book!! I'm not one to spoil the plot at all, so I will just say that you definitely need to read this series & if you live this as much as I do you need to check out her many other Series!!!
This story just keeps getting better. While continuing their forced assignment from Keradoc, the gang is battling their own demons, ghosts, monsters. Lots of twists and turns. This story is so engrossing, and I love a badass heroine who makes no excuses for who she is or what she wants. The emotions and sizzling heat between Haley and the guys are turned up a few notches in this book! Paranormal isn’t my usual read, but Sarah Piper has such a gift writing a great story with such amazing characters.
Mackenzie Cartwright, Teddy Hamilton (vampire), Aaron Shedlock (demon), and Jason Clark (gargoyle) continue their awesome narration of Haley and her monsters.
Holy gargoyles this is the best one yet ! Teddy Hamilton reigns supreme in his narration of Keradoc and Elian. The fierce emotion and brokeness in his voice destroyed me. Sarah Piper’s beautiful literary style and the amazing narration by Teddy, Jason (hot hot hot !) Aaron and Mackenzie (my favorite witch ever) allowed me to visualize every love scene, fight, struggle and thrilling moment throughout the book. This book is packed with action, the suspense just build and build and im on the edge of my seat the entire time! Cant wait for the final-showdown with Melanthe ! Bravo 👏🏻
~*~ Audio Review ~*~ We continue Haley, Elian, Jax and Hudson’s story and I can’t get enough of it. It was full of twist and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. Despite being at odds they all still trust and protect one another. The ending had me in shock and screaming for it not to end like that. I am impatiently waiting for the final book in this series. The narration from Mackenzie Cartwright, Aaron Shedlock, Jason Clarke and Teddy Hamilton is amazing and Teddy wrecked me in this book. I cannot wait to see how this series ends.
Ok this was the worst cliffhanger to end on and now I must wait till the next books release. ARRRGH! That's definitely the worst part of this book 😂. This series is outstanding, I cried for hours on this one. The love between this witch and her Monster's is breathtaking. I adore Hudson, think the world of Jax, and want to smash Elian in his Fae/Vamp mouth after you kiss him stupid. And that warlord's secrets are unraveling the best kinda man.
Betrayal, secrets, hurt, love, extremely spicy times, you name it, it's going down! Even some crazy situations with the guys coming through for Haley in ways that were unconventional and dangerous, but what Haley ultimately needed at the time. So many crazy twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat right up to the end and then HOLY COW! What an end!
That was a kicker of an ending. With all the chaos headed their way in Midnight I would have thought that having her monsters alive would be important for Haley. Then plot twists and now I'm wondering how the imposter warlord fits into the story. Still waiting for some kick-ass action from the blood witch, maybe this death will trigger something.
By this point of the series, the plot has been dragged out. This book really highlighted just how much information was included in the books that are irrelevant, there's too much happening in the book which makes the plot holes bigger each time a new book is added to the series. I will not be continuing the series after this book.
This has got to be the best book in the series so far. So much is revealed in this book as more information is discovered about individual characters and their pasts. I'm pretty sure many could have predicted some of the revelations but others really snuck up on me in this book. Relationships are intensifying, the "L" word is coming into play, and Midnight is bringing out the extreme protectiveness this group has toward one another, even beginning to include Keradoc in the mix a bit. It's one heck of a ride, with one problem after the other and plenty more coming at this group still. You'll for sure be kept on your toes with this series!
Let me tell you, Elian sure knows how to make an entrance and exit in these books. The poor guy has so much horrible stuff going on with him and I'm literally gutted when everything he has had to experience. It's been a rough road for him and most likely an even rougher one ahead. But, there were also a lot of positives with him in this book as well. There has been a lot of awkwardness between him and Haley since the series began because of their pasts and how abruptly he left her, breaking her heart and changing her as a person, but they finally got to have some form of a heart to heart. Answers! We got some answers and actual reasons as to why Elian left, why he has been so distant, and what he had to give up when he escaped Midnight the first time. It was a relief to know that he didn't intend to hurt her in any way and it gives me a lot of hope towards their future together. There are things that prevent some progress between them, but Haley is one determined woman and still attempts to include Elian in any way possible.
I'm very interested to see how the next book in this series will be as the darkness gets closer and the group isn't as prepared as they'd like to be. It feels like they are all scrambling at this point, but I think things will come together soon. Plus, some people work better with an extreme kind of deadline. You never know what plans this group can come up with when their lives are at stake. With Midnight having such a positive effect on Haley in regards to her magic, along with the amount of dedication she has put forth into learning more and extending her powers, maybe they don't have to look so far for answers.
HOW?! how can it end like that. what the actually fuck. i am in shock. i cant believe it.
this book series has me all over the place, its hot and spicy. im crying over a fae vampire that is a drug addict and he isnt allowed to touch the only women he has ever loved because of a curse placed upon him. my heart broke for him. this series makes me jealous in ways i never thought possible. 3 men to love and worship her. i could NEVER do something like it but i will say im a bit jealous. the way each and everyone of them worship her like she is the sun in the sky. the water on earth. the oxygen in the air.
Hudson is still as silent with the boys but speaks for his witch. i find that so annoying attractive. i dont know why but the fact that he only speaks to her and no one else. even while Hudson and Jax were worshipping Hayley together, Hudson still whispered to Hayley with only her ears to hear.
Jax is still his over obsessive protective self and i LOVE it. i craveee it. he is always straight forward with everyone especially with Hayley.
Elian… oh my sweet fae vampire. i hurt for him. he deserves the world. he deserves to beat his addiction and move on. he deserves to love Hayley the way the other two are and can. so openly.
Evander.. i have no words. talk about enemies to lovers ~swoon~ TWIN??? wow. i didn’t see that one coming. i feel so bad for him and what has happened. but i dont think i can condone his actions just yet. he isnt on my top list.
Fucking absolutely hell!!! I’m sooooo worried about Elian!! Damn this fucking junkie, he’s breaking my heart, it’s bad he’s really fucked. the last book finished in such a damn cliffhanger, I almost didn’t sleep hahahaha .
Elian’s withdrawal was ugly and sad, I can’t wait for more and more about Keradoc !!! She finally fucked with Hudson no news in that and damn the guy is BIG and *fans myself*. Well… Jax is steric, about Haley being hurt and he’s pouring all his shit in Elian, who just came out of hell… with the emotional of a… well junkie not really brilliant Jax of your part, for him to fall into the damn abyss again? Pretty easy.
Fuck again… can someone fucking put him in a prison cell and wait at least 2 months before letting him walk without someone beside him? Wel… Keradoc is damn fucked too, in the dark way that makes Elian’s trauma look like kids play, and he’s pissed with him too because his trauma is worse and he didn’t make it an excuse to be a junkie, and guys… if someone has a justification to be a junkie? It’s “Keradoc”.
Oh my god !!! Oh my fucking god!!!!!!! I’m having a heart attack but damn heart attack…. This ladies and gentlemen??? IS WHAT I CALL A MOTHERFUCKING CLIFFHANGER.
Why can’t anyone write a LFC who isn’t a weak simpering fool? They’re supposed to be warriors. Heroes. But NOPE! Can’t actually have that. They always fall on their knees for a dude. Compromise morals and integrity. Never have an actual spine.
And do authors not understand the literal difference between lithe and voluptuous? Worlds apart. So don’t describe a woman in one sentence as one and then the next chapter as the other. Also.. stop copying and pasting bad lines just to get a point across.. WOMEN DONT CLENCH OUR THIGHS! Nor do we “rub them together to ease the ache” (I’m rolling my eyes because even in bad horribly written sex scenes in movies, THEY DONT DO THAT!)
As for the sass. If the female had the ability to back it up instead of just run her mouth and accept every bad trait with an excuse she makes up in her own head for the males actions.. It would have been a better book. Better story. Better series. But nope. Awesome come back lines. That are completely ruined the next paragraph because she gives in and doesn’t actually follow through.
I want a refund. Not even bothering finishing this series.
I’d been anticipating that first spice scene but I unfortunately had to put it down so I could look up the effectiveness of bleaching your eyeballs.
It doesn’t come highly recommended, by the way.
The way Hudson speaks and thinks is pretty ridiculous in the first place, but his narration of spice was one of the worst things I’ve ever read. And I’ve read some awful stuff.
It was like a millennial trying to sound cool, which only made them less so.
It was also vague, without any of the details and sensations Haley’s POV would’ve given us. Like we were given a cocky caveman narrator. Really bad call there.
Their relationship didn’t have a culmination, either. It was more of a ‘might as well’ kinda deal. Fine, whatever, but strange to do with her literal fated mate that we’ve known about since the beginning of book one.
By the time we got to Keradoc’s chapter, I was done.
Everyone’s characters suck now AND we’re STILL pretending that guy is Keradoc?! I’m sick of it.
It fell off so violently that I don’t care whether they live or die.
Ok so this witch is meant to be the one that helps win the war, this all powerful being. Yet she behaves like a slut to have sex with another man and leaves her so called lovers to fend for themselves against powerful witches. Surely if she’s so powerful she could have helped them. If she’s going to defeat the most evil woman out there with her dead army, then surly 3 black witches would be easy 🤷♀️. Also the most dangerous warlord of all times hides in a cave with her. Mmm. They need to buck up if they have any hopes of winning at all.
The Witch’s Monsters series, has become one of my favorite by Sarah.
This book is as thrilling, suspenseful, naughty and soul searching as the other two, she is still being held captive by Keradoc, but i feel like it's less captive and more intriguing.
The other men are so full of desire, passion, regret and most of all loyalty, even when it wavers and mistakes are made, it makes you flip through the pages faster to to see what will happen nexts.
I can't wait for more of this ride, im inthrolled sarah.
So, Blood and Madness in the third in the series. I didn’t feel that it deserved as many stars because I found much of the plot to be predictable and expected. I always feel disappointed when a book plot is predictable or if I guess the plot before it happens.
There was a little bit of a cliffhanger, so I will give it props for that. I’m not sure how the series is going to be tied up in the next book – assuming book 4 is the last – because there is so many plot points to cover and tie in neat little bow.
