Michael and Alysia are husband and wife health professionals and the minds behind Sticky Icky Vicky. In 2019, they wanted to write a book that inspired children to believe that, no matter what, they had the power to choose to overcome their fears. That book became Sticky Icky Vicky: Courage over Fear. It’s a story for anyone—big or small—who needs some encouragement to get over a fear. Vicky wants everyone to know that we can all grow as individuals and improve our lives by using the power to choose wisely. By taking little steps, we get closer to our goal each and every day.
Vicky distress speaks to all of us that carry a fear instead of learning a lesson from the things that once defeat us. Vicky's decision to finally overcome her fear is a wonderful journey all readers can learn from. Fantastic book.
The story and illustrations are synchronized for the listed age group. This book has longer paragraphs for transitional children who are looking for longer paragraphs. The story is inspirational for children with fears of water. There is a bonus at the end of the boon to get the audio for this book. Overall, the books message and illustration do tell an inviting story to overcome your fear.
Well written Children’s book and beautifully illustrated. I love the poetic rhyming flow and the message of the story. We can choose courage over fear.
This book offers important lessons in understanding a child’s unique challenges. It is simple, yet will open your eyes to look beyond the surface in order to understand your child’s fear. Highly recommended!
This is a cute story with great illustrations. It helps teach kids they can overcome their fears. Other lessons are that it is important to be careful who you listen to, and positive thinking can help you overcome many things. A nicely done children’s book. My eight year old daughter really enjoyed it.
If you're looking for a children's book that teaches valuable lessons, this is it. This book will help young readers learn about courage, positive thinking, and goal setting. It's the type of book that will help young children believe they can overcome any obstacle that comes their way.
The authors have created a beautifully illustrated book that is playful and entertaining. The main character, Sticky Icky Vicky, is relatable to the 6-9 year old audience. I know they will enjoy following her journey from overcoming her fears to becoming courageous. This is a great storytime book for parents, caregivers, and educators to use to teach children some good life lessons in a fun and engaging way. I plan to share this with my nephew and I know he will enjoy this story. I recommend this book.
This is an endearing book with a gift having had a traumatic experience that made her afraid to the water. She hears that negative voice in her head stirring up her fear. Fortunately, her good friends and supportive parents help her chose courage over fear and help her hear the positive, affirming voice that is in her head as well. I liked that the authors gave questions to interact with your kids over at the end of the book. Very well done!
This was really cute. Vicky has a fear of water (for good reason) - after an accident. But she doesn’t want to get into ANY water, even a bath or shower.
Even when she gets sticky and icky.
Go along with Vicky as she learns to conquer her fear, and get Negative Ned out of her ear.
The questions at the end are a great resource for having a positive conversation about fear responses - with kiddos.
The illustrations are fun and a perfect enhancement to the story.
The story has written with rhyming and the illustrations have done nicely. I think this is a good book for children at age range 4 to 7 years old. The only issue with this book in my opinion is the paperback price that is almost $13 for a children book with less than 40 pages. The price is a little expensive.
I loved how the book teaches children not to surrender to the negative voice in their head and to have the courage to do something that they were afraid of. I can see where the book would be very helpful in getting children past irrational fears. The text rhymes, which I loved, but does not have meter, which is still okay.
This is a story about Vicky over coming her fears about being afraid of water. I love that the family in the story is biracial and that the author is in a biracial relationship. The illustrations are super fun.
This is a special series, and this is a special book. I love the message of facing and overcoming your fears! We all deal with them, we all have memories. And we could all use a little listening to Positive Ted and believing in ourselves ... Good book :)
This is a cute little story about a girl wrestling with her fear of water. It’s got a great, positive message designed to help children recognize, face, and overcome their fears.
