Middlespace: The Rebels Attack, And Then The Other Side Attacks As Well
Starship Captain George Cottonhammer (Will Forte), bored by his job, stops his ship in middle space and floats, doing nothing. He refuses to answer distress calls, dodges anything that smacks of work, chooses instead to focus on his love life and his idea dujour--opening an intergalactic burger franchise. And while he perfects the art of killing time, his crew moves from baffled to annoyed, to furious, to borderline mutinous. But when an ignored intergalactic distress call turns out to be a trap, the limits of how high someone can fail upwards are stretched, and the captain must, to his dismay, do something.

Silly and wonderful! Laughed a lot and even if Cottonhammer was a terrible human being, he also had his moments and I just loved the crazy dialogues

Absolutely silly and wonderful! Great audiobook with a full cast performance. How does a selfish idiot end up being lauded as a saviour? The shenanigans are great, the dialogue hilarious - each exchange crafted perfectly for comedy. And John Malkovitch as the omniscient narrator is fantastic. A fun frolic.

This audiobook is stupid. To be clear its supposed to be stupid, but enjoyably and lovably so, it does not come even close to accomplishing that feat. Paul Lieberstein of US Office fame ( Nooooooo Toby ) tries to create a workplace comedy in space and the product is dismal. The only bright spot is the performance of Clark Duke who plays the reasonable character to counter act the insanely stupid captain and Duke, also of the US Office, is splendid and the story overall would have fared much better had it had more of the dynamic of loser captain and competent crew. This dynamic can work it works decently on television in again the US Office and in scifi television in The Orville yet it fails terribly here mainly because of the character Captain Cottonhammer. In other better stories that keep the idiot leader archetype the leader has to be redeemable! or at least lovable and competent when it really matters yet Cottonhammer none of those he is utterly awful and also unimaginably stupid so its not even enjoyable in a anarchistic sense. Its stupid but not funny, its nonsense with nothing to say, it misses the mark completely unenjoyable.

The Office in the space. Captain feels like more nihilistic Michel Scott from Office. Another sociopathic-themed humor Audible original (Hit Job + Hit and Run was my previous). This style does not really click with me if there is too much taking of human life without much regard - is it the Pandemic (or modern nihilism overall) toll on our minds or what? For some reason, this human life trigger occurs much more in audio form than in film for example. I perceive Middlespace as a bit simple, but there are worse pieces, I definitely have got fun in this piece.

Funny and I liked one plot thread but the rest of the plot was just not doin it for me. I think it would work better in a visual format. I think I would prefer someone else perspective especially the guy who time travels. However there was one joke that I remember really laughing at and a few decent ones but often they just lean it to every joke too much.

So silly, but addresses some long held questions I've had. Like what if you just want to take a day off as a captain of a space ship. Or what is the food like? Felt like the office, but in space. Would like more of the mundane funny sci fi tropes and strange planet vibes.

Expected a bit more with all that star power. I like some of the jokes and silliness but kept hoping some non-silly humour would be featured too. But nope.

When I started this, I didn’t think I’d like it, but I ended up loving how silly and stupid everyone was. I loved even the people I hated. 😁

As much as I love The Office and the cast in this production, it was so silly. Sometimes it was funny and sometimes it was like okay, enough already.
