Falling through a portal and becoming a dragon shifter was strange enough. But when I devoured a demon core and gained access to a forbidden quest system, my life changed forever.
Sintar was like Earth in many ways. It had a blue sky, green grass, and air that I could breath. The demon attacks and shifter magic, however, were new. Every man and woman in Sintar had the ability to change their form.
And now, that included me. And the gorgeous, silver-haired wolf girl I saved on my first day.
My future is dark and full of danger, and someone in Sintar wants me dead. I'm to be the only person who can transform into a dragon, but when I learn to master my power and the strange new quest system, I know I'll find the answers I need.
If I fight hard enough, I can protect the people who have come to count on me.
I had to revise my 4-star review down to a 2 after reading the second book. I did think this first book was good and set things up well for what could have potentially been a fun and interesting adventure and world. There were some issues with this book, but nothing I thought couldn’t have been smoothed out in the second book, unfortunately this was not the case.
The second book was a big disappointment for me and I just had to one-star it which I rarely ever do for a book I’ve actually finished. Nothing got me reinvested in the characters and everything that got me invested in them from this book just seemed to fall apart. Not mention the abrupt ending that just made everything feel rushed and unsatisfying. It seemed a clear rush job to finish by the author especially as I found more frequent and obvious edit mistakes as the end of the book came on.
Also, the introspection by the MC in the second book just became tedious and made me question why I was continuing to read his dumb thoughts which mostly contained either some circular logic or was him thinking how he should do something but didn’t want to, or how he should tell his friends/lovers/whatever something, but doesn’t (despite my awaiting some of that very dialogue between the characters). It was like the author was purposely trading writing plot progression for pointless introspection, and then never getting to the good stuff. This was largely what was felt so unsatisfying, but there were many other little things throughout the story as well.
I also took issue with a lot of the character development that just didn’t make sense, the MC starts off as an heir to a major enterprise, who was presumably raised well to do, and groomed to take over the company only for his other family members to take it from him. Despite this he seems to bring none of the savvy one would expect someone of that upbringing to portray in his handling of life in the other world he goes to, and pretty much brute forces through any conflict while relying on his supporting characters for basically everything else (talent, ability, intelligence, etc.). Other than his drive to ‘accomplish something’ (was never clear what) nothing else really seems to carry over from his background.
In addition, the litrpg element just seems to mean very little in the grand scheme of these two books other than a power reference that is vaguely referred to from time to time and doesn’t always mean anything other than you get a new power when you level up. Seems like the author just likes litrpg and wanted to add that element just because, tbh.
Apologies to the author for the book bashing, and I do wish him luck, but that second book just left me too disappointed and needing the review catharsis here. Don’t think I can continue with this series at this point and wouldn’t recommend.
I like the story I think it was well written for first book. The characters are interesting and as the story goes along to become more in depth. I like the way the protagonist has a challenge from the very beginning and I like the way he deals with it. The girl or girls in the story are not three-dimensional but still leave room to learn more of them and the main character as well. In this world of the story there is challenges and I like the way he surmounts them with difficulty which add more realism to the story in my opinion. I really hope the author can come out with the second book would like to find out what happens next that is for me is very interesting when we enjoy reading the next book.
Nothing totally new here. But that doesn't mean it's not fun.Guy goes to new world turns into dragon Lovely woman learning magic and survive All the basics. The MC is a decent guy Who wants to look out for people. There are shenanigans going on in the new world not that that surprising since there are humans there. That dynamic between some of the girls is fun and the new characters are certainly interesting though there are not a lot of them at this point in the series. Still I enjoyed it probably will read the second book when it comes out.
If you take this book for what is suppose to be, just a fun little city building romp, it would be fine except. . .
The story is forced, the character interactions are ridiculous, and the set up is lazy. The entire thing is far to obvious, with simplistic one dimensional characters. It is boring to read, from the combat to the adult sections. This is a simple idea that is poorly written.
Enjoyed the storyline. Lots of understory links to future books. Can't wait for the next book.
Good story, lots of action. Maybe slower buildup of the main character with more basic combat before tackling armies of demons. I realize all stories like this require a suspension of disbelief but a closer link to realism would possibly make it better. But, keep up the good work. Looking forward to future books.
This is a good, fun, book. I liked the characters and writing. The MC does not go full Chad, but it kinda gets close. Thankfully, the writing is good enough to overcome its small failings. I was disappointed at the length, except for fighting a big monster at the end, who appeared out of thin air, there is no real conclusion and no story points are wrapped up. I enjoyed the story and recommend this book.
Great story I really enjoyed it I think that you put together a great plot in the great story here with great characters and I hope that you are going to read more You have a really great concern Highly recommend this story to anyone who loves. Anyone who loves these type of stories I hardly recommend this I think you have a good foundation here please right...now..... Please write more.
This genre often has problems with too much attention to repetitions of character sheet detail used as filler. Fortunately this example does not have that problem and the freshness of the world concept, plot and attention to character detail make it a good read. I'm looking forward to the next volume.
I enjoyed the book! The concept of the mc turning into a dragon was new and it caught my attention. Can't wait for the other nooks ! Keep up the good work.
Ehh I was interested in the world concept and what not but the writing gets so rushed in the second half. The battle descriptions get horrible and there are even short partial sentences that don’t feel complete.
An interesting blend of gaming mechanics and fantasy storyline!!! Very enjoyable characters, both good and bad with some amazing adult fantasy activities!!! Readers you won't go wrong in my opinion with this story!!! More more more
Finally a well written book right up my alley. I loved the story, progression and pacing. I hardly ever write a review but liked this story so much I wanted to write one. I can't wait for book #2!
Interesting mechanics and love the story its got all the elements a good litrpg harem book should have it raises above most of the generic hack slash bang the babes books and leaves you wanting more, can't wait for the next book.
This novel had a solid story, likable characters, and good pacing. The abilities possessed by the characters were fairly basic, but were also decent for their levels.
I like the MC and plot a lot. Well done and well pace with out cliff hanger at the end. Will definitely look for more of Victors Briggs present and future works.
