When her parents died in her youth, Anabel Brick—along with her sister, Jessa—was raised as an orphan of United Earth. While her sister became an Alien Research Specialist, Anabel’s skills were put to a different use. She’s a tool for U.E. and its military fleet…a spy…a killer. Her current mission also turns out to be her last. If she succeeds, if the criminals don’t take her out first, she’ll remain marooned on the deep-space planet. Any rescue effort too dangerous to attempt for a single operative. Anabel always knew her life wasn’t going to have a happy ending.
Little does Anabel know, the hunter is about to become the hunted.
Raze and his hunter grouping have suffered too much loss. All they have left is each other and the anticipation of hunting prey for the rest of their lives. It does give them a sense of peace to track, capture, and sometimes kill vile beings who harm others. Now his grouping has been commissioned by other Veslors to find Anabel and return her to her family safely. Finding the female is easy; Raze and his grouping brothers are the best at what they do. Subduing a woman who’s more than human is another matter.
Little does Raze know, rescuing Anabel could have dire consequences for everyone…Veslors included.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
This series is light and perfect for a winter days! LOL
I like it because the characters are logical and the heroes protective and alpha, but they don't smother the heroine! And the heroine here is tough as nails! LMAO!!!
The unthinkable has happened. The time has come to part ways with LD. What used to work unfortunately works no longer.
Sci-fi alien romance is catnip for me. But this just didn't work. When writing two sisters love interest so things can be repeated which for me is kind of annoying. I found Jessa difficult to handle but Anabel was too domineering as a heroine.
Yes what is good for the goose is good for the gander. But the heroine IMO had no room to breathe and the heroine had a couple of TSTL moments.
One thing that annoyed the crap out of me was the amount of times suck was said by the heroine.
I really liked this one and enjoyed the setting, for most of the book, on planet "KP". Raze and Anabel were great, i just wanted their romance to have a little more build up.
Having recently read about Jessa in the previous book, it was nice to get her sister Anabel's story. I liked planet KP and Anabel is one tough and determined lady. I wish there had been more chemistry between her and Raze. The build-up to their romance was very sudden but still hot.
Anabel and Raze were perfect for each other. It’s like this mates thing creates the perfect pair. All kidding aside I loved that they were very similar it’ll help when she goes after bad guys in the future. A law seeker and a hunter. Perfect, perfect, perfect. And the way she understood him so well was especially good. For someone like Anabel who’s been so lonely for so long to intrinsically be connected to someone like that must have been overwhelming but also very nice. They understood each other and that made their relationship so good.
I am very curious about this special top secret program that seeks orphans to turn them into the perfect “whatever they need.” Mostly (I’m pretty sure) are turned into assassins. I really want more books in this series that shut it down or at least a future where the orphans are given a choice. When choice is taken away it’s not a job. It still really upsets me these girls were kept from each other. I’m glad they got out and found strong mates that could protect them. Not everyone is that lucky and by the stories Anabel told most are killed in “accidents” or commit suicide.
Not that she really believed the big bosses would just let her go. She’d done too many missions, knew too much. She’d seen what happened to other operatives when it came time for their contracts to expire. They either agreed to work longer…or accidents happened. Deadly ones. That was something it had taken her years to realize. Retirement was a lie, something to keep them in line as they carried out missions. There was no such thing as freedom for people like her.
Oh my gosh! What an amazing follow up to the previous book! I love the characters, this grouping has been hit hard with tragedy and yet still manage to open their hearts to Anabelle. And she is everything I had hoped she would be after reading about her sister. I enjoyed how these two came together and the dangers and triumph the author incorporated into the story. This book was nonstop action and I couldn’t put it down until the very end. I can’t wait to see which lucky Veslor finds his mate next!
Exciting read. I couldn’t put it down. It had me from beginning to the end. Annabel and Raze were awesome. A lot of great action and heat. Grab this series it’s awesome.
Anabel was super annoying with her wanna be BA attitude, but I still enjoyed the story overall. I'm looking forward to more books in this series. Happy reading!
Don’t even need to read this book to rate it 5 stars I love Laurann Dohner and devour her books like I haven’t eaten in a month. Will be reading this book the day it comes out even if it means I won’t sleep that night
Originally gave this book a higher score, but the way the story was wrapped up just really irritated me. The Velsors are super against slavery, yeah? But then they're apparently fine with ignoring the thousands of enslaved orphan humans so long as they're able to keep the two they like. They have an extremely powerful and intelligent race of aliens on their side after rescuing their stranded people, maybe use that to put the pressure on Earth to stop enslaving orphan children until they are 35? Maybe let the rest of humanity in on this fun little secret?
And not any one of these characters got any closure when it came to their mistreatment at the hands of their family.
I don't know. I just feel like there was huge potential for deeper plot in this series, and it got skimmed over.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I couldn’t wait to read Anabel’s book after finishing Jessa and Maith’s because I had to know what was happening to Anabel and how she was getting along and all that jazz. I didn’t start it immediately once it hit my kindle, but I finished the book I had been reading a lot quicker than I might have considering the book slumpy phase I had been in. It was easy for me to get into Hunter Raze and stick with it more consistently and frequently. It was another excellent book in the series and I loved reading it so much!
I loved Anabel and Raze! Anabel was a total boss, capable, strong woman and I loved how independent and determined to complete her mission she was. If you need an example of competence porn, Anabel is totally it — I adored her and Raze was no slouch either! He was sweet and I feel like he’s an alpha and a bit of cinnamon roll hero all wrapped up together. He’s possessive and protective and he has to get used to Anabel doing her own thing, but he knows and respects her strength. I loved this couple a bunch and I think they’re one of my favorite of the series!
Hunter Raze had everything I look forward to in a Laurann Dohner book. We had a fantastic hero/heroine pair in Anabel and Raze, there was steam and sweetness, my heartstrings got tugged on, there was action and danger, and of course, a lot of love and heart too. It was just a lovely time and I can’t wait to read about Raze’s grouping next!
I liked it. The storyline was pretty good. The heroine’s character was interesting. What was missing for me was the romance. For example, I didn’t quite get what made the hero special to the heroine. Sure he’s hot, honourable and a leader, but pretty much all Veslors seem to have those qualities. It was still a good read and I liked at the ending how we got to see previous characters and how the future is shaping up for them.
This series is getting as good as New Species. It was entertaining and the plot was interesting. No annoying OW drama which seems to be author’s favourite plot in series such as Cyborg Seduction and Zorn Warriors. And the characters are likeable.
Another great read by Laurann Dohner but equally bittersweet.
Laurann Dohner is the Queen of alien romance novels. Her talent for creating these aliens worlds never gets old. The downside to the alien romance queen is she's a bit all over the place and it can be confusing like in the case of this new Veslor Mates book or frustrating in the case of the New Species series. In this new installment of the Veslor Mates she introduced yet another Veslor grouping. The first novel was about one grouping and the next several were about another and this one is about another. I can't even remember the names of the characters in the first novel. The novels are loosely connected at best and there is a feeling of disconnect because she keeps ditching one grouping and starting new books with new groupings instead of completing one grouping and moving to the next. Dohner is no stranger to this chaotic writing style because the New Species series is just as maddening but in different ways. Again I can't help but praise Dohner for her imagination when creating these fantastical worlds for readers to escape. The main issue with New Species is the infertility of the female New Species. She continues to write New Species books that follow male New Species but not one novel has progressed to solve the ongoing issue throughout the series. She's wrote one on the top of my head about a female New Species but the female was denied the happy ever after with babies like the majority of the male dominated series got, leaving the series to feel a bit stagnant in its development.
I adore the Veslor universe. Always fast pace, action packed with great fight sequence. This was no exception. An awesome addition to the series. I love how the characters are layered and loveable. Yes they are big thrilling warriors ( rawer rawer grr grr 😉) but they are also loveable in a way this reader craves for them all to find their story and HEA. This story introduces the reader to a new Veslor grouping that are hunters. Bounty hunters to be exact. They are considered undesirable by their home world but are loyal males to their king. They have a code of honor and even amongst their own current grief and loss of one of their own they take up the call from Roth and his grouping to find Anabel Brick. Jessa's lost sister. She's in need of rescue so they call in the Hunters. Only Anabel is no ordinary human female. She is a valuable asset to UE and if she is compromised they have no hesitation to kill her. On Anabel's last mission she went missing presumed dead or left for dead. Raze and his grouping will find her and return her to her sister. But the Hunters soon discover this is no simple mission and Anabel is no fragile human woman. Trained by the best to be the best she is a force all her own and Raze doesn't know what hit him. This fantastic sci-fi adventure and romance delivers wonderful feels and page turning excitement
🔥 “You’re the sweetest poison I have ever scented.” ~~~ Anabel is an absolute badass! She’s strong, smart, resourceful, cunning and dangerous. And dispute everything she’s been through, she’s one strong, independent and determined woman and I loved her so much!
And Raze is just the right male to deal with such a fiery woman. He’s strong, honorable, bossy, possessive and fiercely protective. He’s a badass with a sweet side and I adored everything about him!
The development of their relationship was perfect! Both were strong individuals and it took some time for them to trust each other. But Anabel and Raze were a great and unstoppable team. From the moment they met, their chemistry was undeniable. They were a truly fantastic match and the passion they shared was scorching hot.
Even more, the worldbuilding and the storyline were fantastic! I loved the new planet we got to explore and a whole new race of aliens that we got to meet - the Cobona. And I really loved Raze’s grouping and I hope we get more of the hunters in the future.
Overall, the story is another wonderful addition to the series. It’s filled with danger, non-stop action, violence, twists, adventure, steamy romance and magnificent characters.
I loved it and cannot wait to see what will happen next!
When Raze and his grouping are sent to find Anabel, the sister of a Veslor mate, he is not sure what to expect. A highly trained undercover operative, Anabel is tougher than most. Her plan to prevent genocide caused her to become stranded on a primitive planet, avoiding hostile flora and fauna, as well as the other humans stranded too. She is shocked to meet Raze, especially when he explains her sister sent him, but she has a job to complete before they can leave…
This book picks up right where the previous book left off, and though it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the other books in the series first. Anabel is Jessa’s sister (she was the female mc in the previous book), while Raze is part of a new grouping of Veslors, this time they are hunters. Much like the other books in the series, there is a lot of action, a few ongoing plots are alluded to, and of course there is romance. With some intriguing side characters, and a fascinating universe, it’s an enjoyable and entertaining read for sci-fi fans. Recommended for fans of the series, and sci-fi romance.
Anabel and Raze have both suffered serious childhood trauma leading to the dangerous career paths chosen for them. Jessa, Annabel’s sister initiated a search for her spy sister by a trusted hunter grouping so they can escape the Fleet and UE. The mission Anabel is currently on will have to be her final as she was deep uncover and has been exposed. Stuck on a hostile planet she will fight for her life when Raze and his group show up still grieving a recent loss. The ex cons who want her dead also have another sinister job to do and she can’t let that happen. Desirable or not she has a job to do and Raze is impressed by her skills and abilities not to mention his sudden attraction. I have enjoyed all 6 books in this series and enjoy the lack of repetition in the overlapping stories.
Book #6 did not disappoint! This one follows Anabel's story, Jessa's sister. A grouping has been hired to find her and bring her back to Roth and Jessa on board the Defcon Red. Meanwhile, Jessa's undercover mission has revealed that the mining company she's investigating is even dirtier than they thought and her only recourse is to blow their ship out of the sky and hop on an escape pod. The hired hunter, Raze, finds her, months later, continuing her mission to hunt down the remaining crew that also managed to get to escape pods. There's so much to this story, the continuation of the story arc through the series is lovely, as well as the self-contained story in each book. Honestly, I can't wait for the KING to get a mate.
Raze has been sent to find Jessa sister on a outer space planet but this planet is not in fleet territory. So there could be more danger then they counted on. Anabel’s on this planet because she tried to stop this ship of harden criminal from taking out the inhabitants of this planet and that all of them just to get the rights to the planet. And that’s where Raze and his group come in to track her down. But while taking out the bad guys they come across a group of people that have survived for 10 year after their ship crashed. Anabel will find more in the hunters and once reunited with her sister even more. So enjoy the read and see how it works out!!
I love this series and I loved this book! I love, love, loved it! Did I mention that I LOVE it? Romance, action, and--- ok, they don't go into any too complex emotions but sometimes you just need to read something that has you at the edge of your seat, while wondering how they will get their happy ending. And they always do! Loved how everything was wrapped up in the end, but I could still see a potential of more Veslors ending up with human mates (especially that king of theirs - he sounds hot *winky face*). Anyways, an amazing and exciting book by the author (as always - duh!) and I LOVED it! Did I already mention that...?
I never get tired of Laurann's writing. She always finds ways to make the Stories fresh and new. This book tackled a whole new species unknown to earth but an allie to the Veslor. On a planet not before visited by either race. The plants and animals she came up with were insane. Loved the Book. Seems the Earth war ship is now in the rearview mirror for now and their is a new Veslor Grouping taking the lead in this series. I have a prediction about this crews "dead" grouping mate. I think he's still alive fighting in some gladiator type arena somewhere and will be recovered. Let's see what happens. DanaLynn
