It's no secret that I absolutely adore Maberry's writing in general, and his Joe Ledger stuff in particular. So, when the two beautiful hardcover copies of these were announced, I jumped all over the order.
And, while I'll say I enjoyed the hell out of these, I will say (and this is just me, not an indication whatsoever of the quality of the writing), I do tend to find my enthusiasm dampened when Ledger crosses over into Maberry's zombie or V-War vampire series, or when he's sharing the stage with another author's character from their own series. Joe Ledger, for me, works best in the world Maberry initially set up for him.
That being said, this is still an absolute blast to read. It's all here...the action, the fights, the good and bad guys (and women), and the quips. Oh, the quips. Maberry's a freaking black belt at quips.
So yeah, for me, one star off only due to the crossover stuff, but overall, just a freaking good collection. And the Joe Ledger reading order guide at the back is helpful as all hell.
Another superb collection of short stories by Jonathan Maberry featuring his main character Joe Ledger, every single story is a gem in itself but when they are put together they explode off the page into something spectacular. Jonathan Maberry in my mind is one of the best writers out there and certainly doesn't get the recognition in the UK he deserves.
A great collection of stories, very enjoyable. Would be 5 but 4 stars as I have read some of these stories in other Collections. Short stories about joe ledger and some cross overs to other Jonathan books. All very good.
Masterful! Because of.the multiple short story format, this didn't feel like 14 hours at all. So many great stories, I really didn't have a favorite, although the "portal" was the most intriguing one. I hope Mayberry does more like this, especially crossover events.
I had read almost all of these stories before, but that doesn't matter. I still enjoyed them all thoroughly, and I'll probably read them all again in the near future. Can never get enough of Maberry and Ledger.
Cannot go wrong with a Joe Ledger anthology of short stories. A great group of authors has a very unique take on the Joe Ledger universe. From the opening narrative to the very last page, this is an attention-grabbing batch of stories. Even a first-time reader of the Joe Ledger series would find this anthology very useful in understanding the history of the Joe Ledger character and universe. These authors have a firm grasp on the subject matter and make for some very entertaining reading.
