Sides are being taken and the curtain pulled back. The true architects of the attacks on Kyle are coming to light.
The war god is now in control of his power and growing stronger by the day. He is ready to strike back. No matter if he must descend into the deepest pits of hell or climb to the highest heavens, he will stand victorious.
Join Kyle and his team for the epic conclusion of one man's journey from mortal to divine and beyond.
David Burke is a mild manner something who tries to enjoy each day a bit more than the last. It dawned upon him at some point that life was racing him by and he wasn’t nearly as young as he used to be.
So now he spends his nights and lunch hours and any other free time he can putting down on paper all the stories that have collected up over a life time.
Overall a disappointing conclusion to a moderately good series. The author critically struggles to keep the story tight and focused, leaving several dangling plot threads out there that never go anywhere including:
* the medical book Kyle was supposed to translate for Selma. * Selma in general. She was supposed to be elevated, but that never happened. She also never really fits in to the series * the vampire that came back from Death’s mantle that was supposed to act s a spy for Kyle * Hav being introduced as a major plot element, only to be tossed aside * Nyad getting pregnant, then apparently forgetting about that a few chapters later.
The author seems to focus on quantity over quality, with all 5 of these books being published in a 9 month window. I suppose we should be glad that he at least finishes the series, but the quality could be significantly better.

I really like the main character's self reflection and internal philosophical musings. Real character development. The overall story and series has great potential for a harem / fantasy.
Ruined by sloppy editing, no spell check, and no proofread. This reads as a rough draft or a rush job. Take your pick.
Edit the damn book or at least spell check and I'll gladly give at least 3 or 4 stars.
Introduction: From the frozen heart of HowlStrom, where the icy winds whisper tales of legends and the land is blanketed in a winter that spans a century, I, Kiba Snowpaw, the Alpha Ice Wolf, bring forth my thoughts on a tale from a realm far removed from our own. As I harness the power of my ice magic, I delve deep into the narrative of "War God for Hire #5: Overlord" by David Burke.
Basic Plot Summary: The curtains of deception are being drawn back, revealing the true masterminds behind the attacks on Kyle. Now, as the War God, Kyle has harnessed his power and is growing stronger with each passing moment. Determined to retaliate, he is prepared to journey through the darkest pits of hell and ascend the highest heavens to ensure his victory. This tale chronicles Kyle's transformation from a mere mortal to a divine entity and beyond.
Analysis/Evaluation: Burke's narrative is a rich tapestry of fantasy, interwoven with elements of harem. The story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the lengths one would go to reclaim their honor and seek justice. The intricate plot twists and the philosophical undertones make it a compelling read.
Characters: Kyle, the protagonist, is a character of depth and complexity. His journey from being wronged to becoming the War God is both inspiring and heart-wrenching. The supporting characters, each with their unique personalities and roles, add layers to the story, making it a multi-dimensional narrative.
Structure: The story is structured in a manner that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Each chapter seamlessly flows into the next, with the tension escalating, leading to an epic conclusion.
Impact: The tale resonated deeply with me. It speaks of betrayal, redemption, and the indomitable spirit of a warrior. It serves as a reminder that even in the face of insurmountable odds, one can rise, stronger and more powerful.
Hook and Thesis: The allure of the story lies in its unpredictability. Just when you believe you have grasped the narrative, a twist awaits. The central theme revolves around the concept of power, its acquisition, and the responsibilities it bestows.
Praise and Critique: I commend Burke for crafting a tale that is both riveting and thought-provoking. The character development is noteworthy, and the world-building is impeccable. However, some readers have pointed out inconsistencies and unresolved plot threads. While these critiques hold merit, they do not significantly detract from the overall brilliance of the story.
Evaluation: "War God for Hire #5: Overlord" stands as a beacon in the realm of fantasy literature. It offers a blend of action, introspection, and a deep dive into the psyche of its characters. It is a tale that will linger in one's mind long after the last page has been turned.
Comparison: While the tale is unparalleled in its essence, it does evoke memories of the legendary sagas of HowlStrom. The themes of honor, betrayal, and redemption are universal, transcending realms and resonating with beings across dimensions.
Conclusion: In the eternal winter of HowlStrom, tales like these ignite a fire in our souls, providing warmth and solace. "War God for Hire #5: Overlord" is a masterpiece that beckons readers to embark on a journey of self-discovery, challenges, and the eternal quest for justice. I, Kiba Snowpaw, the Alpha Ice Wolf, wholeheartedly recommend this tale to all who seek an adventure that transcends realms.
May the frosty embrace of HowlStrom guide you to tales that touch the soul.
Bravo Burke! Simply bravo! Man, I can’t wait for the collaboration with the supers and Kyle… Sol and Kyle will be an amazing book… now that I know who the players are in these stories it will be very interesting indeed since I read this books in a weird order… I was like who in the hell is Krig 🤣… well, now I know! Also the hidden jokes Burke dropped has me laughing so hard… not only does he mention his own name Burke in a book he mentions a wild lawman named guys like ROB 🤣🤣🤣🤭… I just finished Robs first book now and let me tell ya 5 stars! Bingo bango such a good one! It started off a lil slow but man it sky rocketed off. What a great angle it took! But let me focus on THIS series.. I truly loved Kyle by the end of the series. Some of the books I gave 3 stars because I was supremely frustrated and it seems that Burke does this to me but man I must admit the dude can write a great story… sighs, I won’t mention tower mage… EVER… just no, the ending to that series… NO. But this one was great. I wish that we got more of Kyle and little Kyle adventures 🤣🤭. In a way he created this whole mess with the queen of the succubi and ba’al. I have no idea why he’d do that… but he did it when he just should have slaughtered them. Also, I’m like wow lots of Chicago stories here… just goes to show you how much crime chi-raq has.. even in the future and different planes of existence people are still getting blown to bits. 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🫤. I gotta say though I love all the Easter eggs though. You just have to know them when you see them. Old movies, songs, comics…Burke throws them all in his books and I just laugh.
Gotta luv it when you get surprised in a good way. This series was nothing like l expected when l started the first book. I rather expected a “mortal ascends to godhood” trope, with blood and guts flying everywhere followed by victory sex. Instead l read a very interesting philosophical treatise on the nature of reality buried in an Isekai. My only complaint is that the story never returned to Krig on earth after teasing us with his downfall. However, if the story continues, there will be a brave new world, without essence/mana to explore…. namely earth.
I really enjoyed this story it has lots of action has a little bit of reflection the main character is thinking about things and the World building is explained very well. there's drama political Intrigue as well as in fighting between the so-called gods of this world. there's loving relationships between the main character and his wife's and for me that makes for good romance.this bookmarks the end of a story arc I don't know if it's continues but it's possible really love this story would like to read more I guess only time will tell.
The story itself is good, though this final installment felt a bit rushed. The "big bad" ultimately didn’t pose much of a challenge, which made the climax feel underwhelming. I could’ve done without the graphic sex scenes—honestly, I came into the series hoping for some epic isekai war god battles. While there were some solid fight sequences, they often took a backseat to what felt like juvenile-level smut. That said, the series as a whole is a fast-paced and entertaining read. If you’re looking for something light with action and a heavy dose of fan service, this might be your thing.

This final book of the series is a welcome and befitting finale. If you consider starting this series you should know it had a lot of hatten elements and is heavy on cultivation and internal perspectives. The story focuses on the MC as he continues to grow and evolve and what it means to have God-like powers. Respect to the author on actually ending a successful series once the story is told.
You may even say he's "God tier". This series is as good as "Desend". Are they perfect? No, but they're close! Burke weaves Individual characters with plenty of great sex scenes that doesn't get in the way of plot! However I do wonder whatever happened to Froggy and Jez? I had to remove half a star for each for these under developed characters. But overall I highly recommend War God for Hire
A definitely overpowered MC but he is humbled at times and slow builds back so still very interesting!!! As always great world building, excellent character development and dialogue! First class adult fantasy activities and an all round enjoyable story to read!!! More more more
This is my favorite complete series by the author so far. I loved how important his harem ended up both in the final climactic battle and the ending as a whole. Truly marvelous.
Really great finale to a series I really enjoyed reading. I am hoping Burke does another series, either as a continuation of Kyle's story or something like it.
Awesome end to an awesome series. Every single one of the books was a blast but the last one beat them all, making it perfectly complete. Only regret is that it is over but it is definitely possible for more later on.

The story was fine. I had higher hopes for it in books 1 and 2 but it was fine. The ending was underwhelming though. This whole book felt more like a TV movie to me rather than an epic high budget theatrical blockbuster.
