The dead start talking when Adalyn’s magic awakens.
Adalyn’s life as a cook in the king's kitchen, will soon end, when the spirits of the past reach out to her, warning that things are not all as they seem, in the Kingdom of Peiruin.
Having long since rid itself of magic, the world has not seen a human with magical power, in five hundred years. Overwhelmed that her life may be forfeit, if her newfound abilities are discovered, Adalyn must find the strength to rise to the challenge of being the only worldwalker.
On her quest to hone her magic, Adalyn enlists the help of the secret race of dwarves and elves and discovers she may be the key to saving them all -- or bringing the kingdom a war that’s long overdue.
Our mc Adelyn finds out she is a Worldwalker and suddenly her life completely changes. She meets elves, dwarves and spirits that open her eyes to problems her Kingdom must face.
First of all, let’s talk about the cover. Absolutely beautiful!
Next, i’m gonna be honest, the .5 is only there because i LOVED Venlian’s character. I also liked his relationship with Adelyn a lot more than the one she had with Nolan, hello ?? “I saw that I was more than a mere mention in your story”??
The plot itself was interesting but it lacked development. I believe that if there was more world building, more changes in characters, and a lot more variety in the dialogue, that I would’ve liked it a lot more.
I also felt like everything was just handed to Adelyn’s character? She learned to do things so quickly, when there could’ve been room for her to learn and grow as a person.
The ending? it was also fine, but is it compelling me to want to read the next book? Not really. I wish that we could’ve gotten to know more of the characters so the “betrayal” could’ve hit a lot deeper.
anyways, would I read the next book? sure, maybe, but really only for Venlian <3
First i want to thank the author for sending me an Arc copy, however, Its with a heavy heart that I had to DNF this. I wanted to like it but at 22% I had to stop realizing that this book wasn't for me. The main reason being I've been slowly transitioning out of the Y/A space for a while now. My biggest issue is that we are thwarted right away in finding out who our MC truly is when we never got a chance to see her before she has this revelation and I didn't get a chance to get to know her and fall in love with her character. It was very fast pace. With the pacing however I will say this if a teenager or a person trying to get back into fantasy again this book would be perfect since it gets to the point and doesn't slam slam you with a lot of information!
A book with an interesting ability-worldwalking. I love that! There are moments where the adventure is exciting and we are introduced to the world. I wish we could have more of the characters. It feels like I don't know them. Where are the emotions?
Is it two love-interests? I'm not sure. A slow-burn with next to nothing in the romance departement.
For me, it's to short and therefore details are missing. It feels like a lot is happening but it's over just as it started. The main character feels insecure cause she asks a lot of questions. Well, I guess she will become more secure with her ability when the journey continues.
I was given an arc copy of this book for an honest review.
Okay so I really enjoyed this book! I did feel like sometimes the pacing was really fast and I would have liked if maybe there was a little more world building / character building in there.
I also wish Adelyn had more encounters with Venlian. Cause his comment of “I saw I was more then a mere mention in your story” well I’m just stuck on that! Nolan is cute but I want elf boy 😂❤️
the ending cliff hanger of course hooked me, I’m hoping we learn more about Chors. Are they stuck in the past or has time moved semi similarly for them as it has in Pieriun? I have so many questions and I’m excited for book 2!
I really liked the epilogue. I thought the journal notes were really interesting.
What a great world! Walking between places, the discovery of forgetten worlds! Its a lot happening in this book and so many great things! I wonder how this will continue!
I was given a copy of this book as an ARC reader and I am so happy that I signed up to read it. It was a wonderfully paced and unique story.
I loved what I was provided about the world, characters, development, etc. And to be honest I also did enjoy that not every aspect of the world was given to me and I was able to build it out while reading. I know this is not for everyone but I find it refreshing if the story itself is set up this way and continues that way throughout the story (even if the writing style changes from book to book). I really liked the dynamics between some of the main character like Adelyn and Venlian, but I do wish there was more development with other characters and their relationships or backstories. There were also a few times I really wanted more information - who the Bannerets were/are and more of their story, more development following Adelyn's skills and gifts, and possibly more background surrounding the actions of other character. For example I thought it was wonderfully paced and great until the last few chapters where I would have loved more of the info leading up to the climax and the development before the end and into the next part of the series.
That said I also know that I'm not privy to the author's plans and world building and when you give information can be reflected in your plans for that world and multiple books. Like I would love to see side stories on different character, or world histories maybe that the dwarves had in their archives . . .
But over all it was a very good read, a fun read, and I am excited to read other things in the series and by this author in the future.
All that said if I look at it through the lens of a YA novel I think this would be/can be an amazing gateway book to a series or a genre.
Adalyn worked as a kitchen chef in a kingdom. Until the story has started, magic is dead in the kingdom after the Great War which occurred five hundred years back.
But something has changed, because Adalyn discovers that she has sudden abilities and she meets an Elf who gives her a sword, a key and other items, in the library that the Elf is in.
Waking up in her own world, Adalyn discovers that she is a Worldwalker. She still has the sword and does what is required of her from the key.
Then she meets Nolan, a handsome warrior, who saves her from a magical creature thought to be long extinct.
The story opens up to reveal more features as Adalyn discovers her powers and she is part of the warriors of her kingdom.
Then she meets the Dwarves and Glenda, another (dead?) Worldwalker who helps her identify her powers.
The story keeps building up, as the kingdom of Chors and King Dragmir and his deeds comes into focus.
In between attending a wedding, and trying to save the people of her kingdom and a subsequent battle, the story moves at a brisk pace, as Adalyn appears more and more in command of her powers. Thereafter the story moves bringing in more characters, more powers and different events.
The characters are very well characterised and Nolan and Venilan were as enjoyable characters as Adalyn herself. The story moves from one scene to another rapidly and Glenda helps the readers in understanding the powers of the Worldwalker.
The royalty, their politics, the different species were all also brought out well and I definitely enjoyed the world building in the story.
The story ends in a cliffhangar, understandably so. Because the world building has extended to other kingdoms and other worlds. Overall, it was a delightful read.
**I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion**
Worldwalker is set in a world where magic hasn't been present for centuries. Adalyn is working in the kings kitchen when she discovers she has the magical ability to worldwalk. Throughout the story the cast becomes more diverse as she discovers elves and dwarves.
This book is fast paced which means you're never bored. But, I do feel like we missed some character development and story development in exchange for the fast pace. I wanted to connect with Adalyn but by the end of the book I felt like I was still missing something from her. I don't need a strong female character (and she doesn't come off as one in my opinion) but I did want to see her questioning more or struggling. I mean, she gets these powers and only has a spirit to really help her strengthen them. I was a lot more interested in Venlian than Adalyn. Nolan also started giving me a bit of the heebie-jeebies tbh... I wanted to see more of her reasoning for being interested in him.
The world building is nicely worked in. Especially when they world jumped. I felt like that part of the story was one of the strongest in terms of character development and worldbuilding/description. It does end at a cliff hanger but it works with the story.
The epilogue was a little out of place for me. I enjoyed it, but I wonder if I had read it as a prologue without knowing the narrator if it would have impacted the intrigue of the story better. As an epilogue I felt like just glossing through it because it didn't seem as important. Also, I didn't realize until the end that the other world still thought they were at war. Like, it was hinted at but the impact of that I feel would have affected the mood of the story differently if it had been mentioned more clearly. A lot of opportunities for more descriptive world building were overlooked in my opinion.
Overall, I did enjoy the story. I'm curious to see where this series goes. I'm hoping to learn more about this world and the reforged alliances that are coming clear. It was well written and the parts are all there, I was just missing a little extra oomph to make it stick in my brain and feel connected. I love the idea of a world rediscovering magic and of a simple woman having to navigate leadership that she isn't prepared for or wanting.
Worldwalker by Jamie Dalton is a young adult fantasy. This was an easy and quick read I found very enjoyable. 500 years have passed since the Great War when all magical beings had been rid from the world. Now, Adalyn discovers she has magical abilities which allow her to travel physically and spiritually between worlds. Her unique ability allows her to help the king when the castle is under attack and become a vital person in joining different species together against their common enemy.
This book was fast-paced and there’s a lot of action from the first page. Written in third person it felt a little difficult for me to follow and I would have liked more details and descriptions, but nevertheless, it is a fantastic debut. I really liked Adalyn’s character and how she came to be. Adalyn is eighteen and an orphan. She had to grow up quickly but is still a bit naive and impulsive.
There’s magic, mystery, intrigue, and a bit of romance. The magical world Dalton has created is vivid and I can’t wait to see where the next book will take Adalyn and these characters after that cliffhanger!
Worldwalker takes place in a world where magic hasn’t existed in 500 years following a war between humans, elves, and dwarves. And then enters the main character, Adalyn, who discovers she is the first person born with magic since the war occurred. This book introduces several interesting magical elements between the storing of a person’s life in the pages of a tome and being able to pass into other realms. Adalyn meets several interesting characters along the way that help her develop her magical gifts and reclaim what was lost.
I think this story has a lot of promise, but it has not been fully realized yet. It has creative magical elements, a decent plotline, some intriguing characters, and the bones of a really good fantasy but it needs fleshing out...and possibly more conflict/angst.
Here's to seeing how Adalyn progresses through the next books!
The story is engaging right from the start. We’re thrown into Adelyn’s shoes in a very realistically hectic way. If you’ve ever worked in a kitchen, you’ll appreciate the realism of the character’s actions and mentality. Beyond that, the character is very realistically skilled for her age at the start. She isn’t overly powerful or competent as a teenager and shows an endearing vulnerability that makes me excited to see her character grow over time. Even the experiences that she gains in the first few chapters aren’t forced or overly done. There is a reasonable level of difficulty and struggle given her purpose in the story. Without spoiling anything, I found myself wanting more even as I turned the last page and can’t wait to see what the author truly has in store for us.
This book is an amazing read! If you are a fan of YA Fantasy, this is your book!
The war has been over for 500 years, but the other side doesn’t know it yet. The world building continues throughout the book and the world keeps expanding. With magic destroyed with the end of the war, who is left to teach our heroine why she travels in her SLEEP???
Come to find out, the humans aren’t alone in the world. And there are many realms to explore and learn from.
I like that there is a little bit of a cute romance added in but it isn’t the overwhelming plot for the entire book. I am probably going to gift this book to my daughter when it comes out in paperback! Would read many times over and I cannot wait for the sequel!
Super easy fantasy read, loved the concepts. I read this as an ARC, and have some things I didn't enjoy. The explanation of what the Bannerets are exactly doesn't appear until you're over 60% of the way through the book. There were a couple of places that that explanation could have gone - which would have answered that question much sooner and wouldn't have left me wondering. I was a bit lost in filling in scenery, what type of era this takes place in, and what the characters looks and mannerisms are like. The characters felt really flat for the majority of the book. There are finally some descriptions of mannerisms in the last third of the book, but you really get mostly dialog otherwise and I found it rather boring that way. The writing needs to be beefed up, give it some oomph. It's rather bland right now.
I found Jamie on TikTok and received this as an ARC. The MC, Adalyn, works in a castle kitchen, but finds out that she is a Worldwalker. She is able to travel between worlds, as well as sending her spirit out of her body to travel. This is not a magic system I have read much of, and I enjoyed it. Fantasy is my jam so this fit the bill for a good read. I liked the characters, especially Eridu.
I did feel that some transitions were not clear, and one part that may have been a twist was confusing. This is a short book, so I think there could have been more detail if it was longer.
I definitely want to find out what happens next, and will be eagerly awaiting the second book.
Worldwalker is a story about a girl (Adalyn) who works in the kitchen of the King's castle, who expieriences her body does some weird things. Throughout the book she discovers those weird things are a kind of magic ability, but she has so much to learn. suddenly the Capital en de casstle are under attack and they need to flee. As they flee she discovers more and more about het worldwalker ability and she discovers spirits who can help her on her quest to learn more about her magic. At the same time she, a secret race of dwarfs, elves and the humans prepare to win what seemed a long los war.
I got the chance to read my first E-Arc with this book by Jamie Dalton. I really appreciate the opportunity to do this and be of help to edit the last things in her book.
I really loved the sarcasm between Adalyn and het friend Isabella and the writing style was very smooth and easy to read (especially for a non native English speaker). The story was really action driven and there was enough dialogue happening between the characters. Although there is a lot of action, the scenes followed each other pretty quickly. Sometimes it was a little difficult to follow and I wished for some more details and description. the dialogues also could use some details so we know who is speaking so we can enjoy the story more.
overall I really enjoyed this book and gave it 3 stars. I am looking forward to the sequel to it as it ended at a cliffhanger and I am sure this first book will be great when it comes out.
The story concept was right up my alley but I felt like there was a lot of gaps in time in the story and there needed to be more character build up. I struggled with the read over all but that’s not to say it’s not for someone. I just felt like it needed more development over all. It was a quick read and the concept was fantastic. I wish there would have been more into the relationship with Nolan, it seemed to just tease around with the idea of them and then maybe even make it a struggle between Adelyn’s feelings for Venlian. Overall I just felt it lacking.
Worldwalker was a fantastic fantasy novel. Jamie set up a unique world that is so new and refreshing. She focuses really heavy on world building. This allows the reader to really see the depth of the situation. I am so eager for the next book to come. I enjoyed the build up of the FMC. She was very relatable and did not become obsessed with her newfound skills, a very reliable character showing normal reactions to new things that she fears she may not be good enough for.
Excellent prose, the story flows easily. Very quick read for me, I read it in a few hours. The ending felt a little abrupt. While it left things wide open for the next book in the series, the cliffhanger is a little quick.
Despite the quick cliffhanger, this is a very interesting story with developed characters and easy connections between them. Definitely read for a quick interesting read.
3.5 stars *spoiler* Definitely a great start to a series but found that we were lacking attachment to any of the characters. The mc mentions missing a friend so deeply and yet doesnt mention it after it happens as if she doesnt really care yet brings it up at out of the blue making a strange connection to it. Overall definitely a great new magic system that includes many different species that makes the book more interesting. Enjoyed how fast paced it was! Pure ya fantasy!

Okay, so I received this copy as an ARC. I was very excited after reading the synopsis and seeing the pretty cover. However, after reading the book I must say this wasn’t for me.
The story overall feels like someone is telling it in 2x speed. Jumping from scene to scene, sometimes fast-forwarding without telling you, making it confusing to follow at times. Since the story is so fast paced there is little to no character development. Some scenes don’t quite fit into the story and could be removed without changing anything, since there wasn’t enough time to develop a fluent connection to the rest.
The characters are unfortunately very bland and as mentioned don’t get much character development. The main character doesn’t really have any compelling motivations to do the things she does except for someone else told her to do it because apparently nobody else can do it. The romance also falls flat for me because I do not really care for neither of the two love interests.
However, the thing that annoyed me the most was the linear story-telling. Nothing ever goes wrong for the main character. Everyone believes her when she claims to be special and nobody really questions her. She masters her powers right after discovering she actually had them. She gets constant power level-up when it’s convenient in the story and the few mild inconveniences they have on their way are usually resolved in the same chapter. If you are looking for a plot twist, there is none, even when there are a lot of opportunities to switch the story into something unexpected. The story ends in a cliff-hanger, which is supposed to entice the reader to read the next one. Unfortunately, I do not really get that feeling here, because I’m almost certain the problem will be resolved within the first five pages of the second book.
To say it plainly the story is fine but it’s really boring and predictable, even with the fast pacing. This is why I can’t give it more than 2.5 stars. I really hope the author doesn’t get discouraged by this and tries to correct some of the issues in the second book. The story overall has some nice elements, it just needs more time to establish the plot and characters properly.
This book had all the magical elements in an old fashioned world where magic is almost gone. I liked the heroine and she was easily relatable! I loved how she wasn't a 'royal' high born kind of girl and just an 'average/normal' person! I feel like this could benefit from a prequel that sets and explains the world a bit more. Other than that, I can't wait to read the next one!
I throughly enjoyed this book! It was a quick read and fast moving plot. I loved the storyline and the sprinkling of romance. I think the magic used is very unique and different from other fantasy books that I have read.
Adalyn is a strong female character that is forced into a completely different world and is able to dive in even though it’s hard. She grows as a character throughout the book and is really starting to develop into a strong leader by the end. I love how there are multiple “races” of magical creatures used because it really adds to the world building.
The author did such a good job describing the scenery as well. I don’t want to give anything away but everything she described sounds like someplace I wish I could visit!
Overall, the book was really good, I just would have liked to see more explanation of some things in the plot, but otherwise the book was fantastic!
♡ I got an ARC from Jamie & it was so goood ... I can't wait till she writes more in this series ♡ It's different from others I've read & it pulls you in & doesn't let u gooo ... Definitely recommending to my friend's ♡
First of all I wanted to thank you for ARC, I have laughed, worried, loved and feared with this amesing characters, I love how Nolan was with Adalyn back in the water pool when he kissed her, I feel that I have found this book to help me with block that I had with reading so I hope to get to read the second book 📖!

This was a Fun YA read! It had magic and a FMC learning to use magic when it had been gone for 500 years. This would have been a 4 star read for me if there was a little more tension…. It just seemed to magically make everything better without a lot of conflict… and they are in a war. Adalyn & Nolan though 😍 so sweet! I wish we could see a bit more of them interacting the hot spring scene was so fun and lighthearted!
I had the opportunity to be an ARC reader for Worldwalker. The MC name is Adalyn and she has a very unique power. She finds out she is able to walk into different planes and places. She uses her ability to help others of all kinds. She finds friends that are dwarves, elves, and golem. It was a good read and I’d recommend to everyone who loves any fantasy books.

I really liked the concept of this book. The writing style was pleasant and easy to read. It was very fast paced but I would have liked it much better if it slowed down at certain moments so we could get to know the characters some more.
Really enjoyed this book! The magic system was something I haven’t read before which is always fun learning about. The author does an amazing job of describing scenes. I’m not the type of person who always visualizes things in my head only sometimes, but for this book you really could picture it. That cliff hanger though…like you knew something was coming, but it definitely makes me excited for the next book.
Mc Adalyn works in the kings kitchen, she alway had these dreams but doesn’t release she worldwalker till an elves tell her. Than everything changes after her kingdom goes under attack and Adalyn power are awakened.
Brilliant YA story World walker, elves, dwarves, magic
So glad I came across Jamie Dalton TikTok and had the opportunity to be an ARC reader
