I'm stuck in the friend zone with the hottest guy I've ever known. Oh, and he's my best friend.

Zach pushes me away the moment sparks fly, and sparks have been flying since the day we met. For some aggravating reason, he's intentionally keeping me at a distance.

The way I see it, I have two options. I can leave town and make a fresh start, or I can show Zach how right we are for each other. The problem is, one of those options has the potential to ruin the best friendship I've ever had.

But I'm considering risking it all for love.

3 - She's a good girl. And I'm no boy next door. Stars!

If you are on the look-out for a quick, sexy, medium level drama read, then I think Blue Streak fits into that box quite well. Book four in Jules Barnard's Blue series, this can easily be read as a standalone, I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, and I don't think it affected my reading enjoyment at all.

Zach and Nessa have been friends for a long time, and while neither has taken it further, both are harboring some seriously lusty thoughts for the other. Zach is the player, while Nessa watches on with equal parts dismay and annoyance that he has put her firmly in the 'Friend-Zone'. That is until one night alone together, with one to many margaritas, and a hot tub are thrown into the equation.

Zach is keeping some pretty heavy secrets when he and Nessa do decide to get it together, and rather than fess up he hopes that he can keep them from ever being discovered. As you would expect that idea doesn't work out so well for him, when Nessa, in the wrong place at the wrong time, see's something that will take some pretty serious explaining, and his only hope of reconciliation is to spill the beans.

I don't deserve her, but the thought of losing her makes me crazy.

Told in dual POV it was good too see inside both Zack and Nessa's heads as their story developed. This is the first work I have read by this author, and after finishing Blue Streak I would certainly consider reading more from her in the future!

3.5⭐️ - for a novella this one might have tried to fit in too much emotional baggage. Not enough time to explore & leaves you wanting to know more. The chemistry and heat were good. A fun & steamy friends to lovers romance

Blue Streak by Jules Barnard was a quick, light, sweet and easy read. If you are a fan of friends zone theme romance, then this book is for you. Ms. Barnard is a gifted writer whose writing will immediately gravitate your attention to Nessa and Zach's story from friends to lovers. The fact that it was a novella, there were at times that I felt it was a bit rushed but overall Ms. Barnard was still able to capture our hearts with this couple's journey.

#1bluestreak

Nessa was always secretly in love with her friend Zack but she was always stuck in the friends zone. As it also turns out, Zack also has feelings for Nessa. So when the couple finally cross the lines from friends to a romantic relationship, will it blow up onto their faces? Or will they realized that they complete one another and have something special between them?

Ms. Barnard was able to weave such a beautiful, sweet and light romance into this novella. So if you are looking for a quick light afternoon read to get lost in, then by all means go read Blue Streak.

3.5 stars.

I usually love best friends to lovers but I just didn't feel too strongly about Nessa and Zach's relationship. It was cute but I really do wish there was more of them. Also the plot between Zach and Alexa was weird and... maybe it could've been fleshed out a litte?? But in general, I did enjoy the steamy bits (because I'm always here for that) but I did wish the plot was a little more developed. Also, it was a lot shorter than I thought, kind of like a novella. But all in all, 3.5 stars

This is a very short novella that I wish had been made into a full-length novella. When I was reading the previous books in this series, I was very intrigued by Zach and Nessa and I wanted to know more about them. I finally did and while the story was great, I wanted more of it. I feel like it might have been a bit rushed. This book is a very quick read. I read it in less than an hour. Even though it's a novella, it still was a very well-developed filled with humor and of course, some steamy scenes.

Zach is the type of guy that just sleeps around and doesn't like to settle down with just one woman. Nessa has fallen in love with him and it has been a year and still, she only feels like Zach treats her like his little sister. Nessa finally explodes and lets Zach knows that she hates being treated like a child, that she wants to be treated like a grown woman. Zach has a dirty secret and Nessa keeps asking questions about it, about why is there this specific woman visiting him each month. Zach hates lying to her but he wants his secret to stay just that, a secret. Zach is in love with Nessa but this secret of his is on the way—a secret that could ruin what they have.

I'm so happy that Nessa was the one to make a move and boy she owned that move. I will say that I considered her previous outbursts to be childish but then I realized that she had been holding her feelings inside and she just finally said, "No more." I think anyone in her position would burst one day. I'm glad that Zach and Nessa were very close friends. I love the friends-to-lovers kind of story. Not only did we get to read about these two, but characters from the previous story made an appearance and it was fun to read about them. Not only that, it gave an opening to New Blue, the fifth book in the Blue series.

Jarringly short compared to the others but enjoyable enough. Since Zach and Nessa already had a fairly well developed friendship going into this book I didn't overly mind how rushed it was

Listened as an audio.

This book was just over 3 hours long. Perfect for day trips with the family. With just over 3 hours to tell a story this book started off quick and to the point. Straight into the middle of the conflict and I absolutely loved it. Cute ending. As we know books like this are obviously predictable but I enjoyed the ride nonetheless. The author even had time for other characters and backstories it was great 👌

5 Cranky Stars!

Blue Streak is a quick but enjoyable read. I received an advanced copy for an honest review. Yes, this book is part of a series but is easily read as a stand alone. I was able to read the book in one day.

This novella is about Nessa and Zach. Nessa has been in love with Zach for over a year but he wants to keep the relationship in the friend zone. Nessa is over watching Zack date every women but her. Zach doesn’t commit but Nessa sees him with the same woman each month and when she questions him about it, he avoids her questions. He doesn’t want to lie to her about what he feels is his dirty secret. Zach believes Nessa is too good for him and she doesn’t know that he also is in love with her but won’t move on it because of this dirty secret.

Nessa finally has the determination to make a move to get out of this friend only relationship. Will she be able to take their relationship out of the friend zone or will it blow up in her face?

We learn more about Nessa and especially Zach’s past. I enjoyed reading this book and catching up briefly with prior characters. We were able to see Nessa and Zach grow as characters and am looking forward reading the next installment of the series.

Remember those stories when there is a girl who is head over heels with her best friend who is a male and he is the type of guy to sleep around and not be in "relationships" , the type that is often commitment phobe until he realises that he is really in love with her as well and then they tend to live HEA for now anyway, Blue Streak by Jules Barnard is one of those books and due to being a novella it is a quick read for those short spanned reading bursts throughout your day. For as long as she can remember Nessa has been in love with Zach and she is used to him having a different girl each week, but she has finally reached her limit and is ready to snap and move on as if she can't be with him, then really why bother ? The thing is though that Zach has a dark secret , when he was younger he started having an affair with his mother's best friend and now circumstances about his mum's death have come to light and it seems that the woman he has been having an affair with might be involved. Can Zach finally free himself from Alexis and open himself up to Nessa ? Is this their time to fianlly get their HEA ?

Find out in Blue Streak by Jules Barnard :)

I received a copy of the ePub from the Goodreads group Never Too Old for Y.A. or N.A. Books in exchange for an honest review.

Jules Barnard’s Blue Series continues with the novella Blue Streak. This novella is Nessa and Zach’s story. Nessa and Zach have become friends—friends without benefits. Nessa watches Zach from afar and pines for him privately. Zach is struggling with his painful and secret history. He does not believe he is good enough for Nessa. The reader gains insight into their feelings and fears via their individual point of view. The chemistry between them is undeniable from the start. This character driven novella is a fast paced read. It is well written and does not disappoint. Will Zach free himself from his past? Looking forward to the next book in this New Adult romance.

Never Date Your Best Friend by Jules Barnard

This is book #4 in the Never Date Series. In this one Zach and Nessa who are best friends who are in the friend zone with each other even though they are crushing after each other. Zach is a bit of a player. This is a friends to lover romance novel. I felt this one was a bit to short and some of the plot could have been fleshed out a little bit more. It wasn't a bad story but in some parts more would have been better to make the story flow better.

I have enjoyed the series so far I have read all of them in this series and getting to know characters in the story as each love interest story gets played out. I was still entertained by this story it is the shortest story of all the other books in the series.

This series is fun and I recommend the whole series it was quick to read.

Rating: 4.3 rounding it off

Exactly what I wanted atm!!!

Some lines were funny af with a tinge of cringe but the narrators did such a wonderful job!!!

I wouldn't say they were exactly best friend, they were just close friends.

It was a short and fast paced would have been better if it was longer and had more arc for the characters especially Zach...cz that was some crazy stuff he went through and fu Alexis. But nonetheless, it waa worth the 3 hours of listening to Zachary!!! 👀

But idk if I would have enjoyed this book if I had read the ebook or PB.

Never Date Your Best Friend by Jules Barnard is the fourth book in the Never Date Series.

This short story follows Nessa and Zach’s relationship as they move from friends to lovers.

Mira’s been attracted to Zach for sometime, but she doesn’t know that the feeling is mutual.

This story is dual POV’s from Nessa and Zach.

This is a short sweet read. Zach and Nessa are friends and Nessa really wants more but Zach doesn't do commitment. Of course they eventually sort it out but there is some heartache along the way. This is a great continuation of the series and I look forward to more.

ARA'S NOTE:
When I read the blurb of Blue Streak, I thought it would be another I-want-him-he-wants-me-but-he-chooses-to-be-a-player-to-protect-me type of romance. And it is! But I did not expect the twist in the story even though there was already a clue on the synopsis.

SYNOPSIS:
He’s hiding a secret. She won’t settle for less.

Nessa Villanueva is tired of watching Zach Elliott go through women, while keeping her strictly in the friend zone. What Nessa doesn’t know is that Zach secretly puts her on a pedestal.

Zach feels dirty from the long-term affair he’s been having with his mother’s rich friend. Nessa’s too good for him, so he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her at arm’s length and protect her—even from himself.

But Zach doesn’t count on Nessa’s determination to break out of their friends-only relationship and show him how right they are for each other…

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Nessa Villanueva is half-British, half-Filipino (added points right there *knuckle bump*) with a passion for wearing high-heeled shoes. (Yes, it is to compensate for her incredibly short height.) She currently has no clear idea what to do with her life, and oh! She enjoys skinny dipping...in hot tubs.

Zach Elliot is messed up. Grew up with a gambling father, his mother passed away in an accident he finds suspicious, and he's been in a relationship (if that's what you can call it) with a married woman ever since he was a teenager. He refuses to fall for Nessa because she's pure, and he doesn't want to taint her. But he can only fight it so much.

REVIEW:
I seriously found the female character more appealing because she shares the same amount of Filipino blood as me. It's just great that Jules Barnard made a character that isn't atypical, you know?

I loved the plot. I saw a lot of potential for it to be longer though, and I believe Jules should have taken that chance. It has a good twist, the characters were interesting enough, and Zach and Nessa have great chemistry. Bsically I really liked the potential I saw in the book.

That being said, I felt like this would have been better if it was longer, more intense, and more elaborate. For the third time, this has the making of a really good novel. Is it possible to revise it or something?

I give this 3 stars. I'll go read the other books in the series, and I'll see which one is best.

Jules Barnard has quite the talent of taking all the themes and expectations of the New Adult genre and taking them deeper, creating a story that is raw, beautiful, and perfect. BLUE STREAK is no different. Nessa and Zach were some of the constant secondary characters for the entire Blue Series and when I saw that they had their moment to shine I could not contain my excitement, and I was not disappointed. My only regret was that their story was a novella. I could have read pages and pages of their story and loved every second of it!

In BLUE STREAK we begin to understand more of who Nessa and Zach are as individuals. Nessa is a beautiful soul who is head over heels for her best friend. Her heart breaks every time he is with another woman and she longs for him to return her affection. She is a strong woman who deserves to be loved and cherished in every way possible. Zach is the typical snapshot of a player. He gets what he needs emotionally from his friendship with Nessa and his physical needs are met by all the faceless women he sleeps with. His heart is with Nessa but his past makes him think he could never deserve her.

This novella finally sheds light on Zach’s source of hesitation, his affair with his mother’s friend. This is a bit of a heavy issue to bring into a book and to use this theme in a novella is a bit risky. However, Jules makes every word and emotion count in this short story and we understand what is happening and the emotional toll it has taken on everyone.

The chemistry between these two is hot. They are friendship on fire, which is one of the best kinds or romances. The have the friendship foundation that will allow them to go the distance and last for a lifetime. Nessa and Zach are both such fabulous characters who click. Their story is beautiful and sweet. The humor and banter in this story is top notch! This novella is the perfect story for these two favorites from the series and I love that we finally see the moment when they come together as something more. Fans of the Blue Series will love this novella and enjoy seeing all our favorites from the series! Don’t miss this novella!

Blue Streak was a quick and easy read for me. Even though it is a novella, it certainly packed a punch. Blue Streak had the perfect balance of humor, angst, steam and romance. With lines like this:

“Nessa is my blue streak in the sky–that flash of lightning that knocked me off my feet when I first met her. I never thought I deserved her, but I do. I’ve finally grabbed onto her bright light, and there’s nothing better than sharing my life with her. “

I can’t help but swoon. This was the perfect friends to lovers read. From the very first page, I was hooked. I had to know more about these characters.I found them so easy to connect with. Nessa and Zach had such great push and pull. Their chemistry undeniable. I just couldn’t wait for Zach to finally make his move.

No book would be perfect with a few bumps along the way. I enjoyed watching the two of them try to work things out and seeing Zach realize that he does deserve more for himself.

Blue Streak was a really fun read. The plot and characters were very entertaining. The end of this book gives us a little peak of the final book in this series and I for one, can’t wait to see what will happen

Love the cover, loved the characters Nessa she was an okay character for me at times I thought she was just needy well not needy but whined a lot maybe that was right word either she during some scenes didn't sit well with me I thought she should have been a tad more assertive but I got where she was coming from, "Different. As in not good enough to be more. Not good enough to be family. Just not good enough. I get it, Zach." There was one scene when she put assertiveness forward that surprised both me and Zach and that's when just really started liking her character, "I didn’t think you were gonna skinny-dip. Christ.” He scrubs a wet hand down his face." Zach has his own assertiveness when it comes to a certain part of Nessa's body, "He reaches down and grabs my a**. “I’ve wanted to do that since the day I met you.” He kneads the curve, then slides his palm up and down as if mapping it out. “I own this a**." I enjoyed this book and it's characters I can't wait to see what's to come for this series.

I adored Tyler and Mira. They were what made me look forward to Zack's and Nessa's story. I am so in for best friends to forever together story that I was damm excited to begin.
when I began, there was angst and forlorn expressions and all the required ingredients required but soon all went to lukewarm feeling rather than the feels of it being hot and sizzling.
Zack's story had potential but I felt it was not executed in the manner required. The push and pull which could have pretty exciting wasn't there as I was expecting.
Nessa didn't had much of a background to determine her. She loved Zack but he doesn't reciprocates her feeling. Feeling lost and alone she wants to move on but soon somehow finds herself with him in his hot tub.
Now, it just if I enjoy a book I am hooked like an addict but that didn't happen. It was just OK and lukewarm to my satisfy my need or expectations of it. I wanted more from their relationship. more angst, more friendship, more togetherness, more feeling of lost. I just wanted more. I know it's a novella yet I feel it didn't live up to my expectations.

A quick romantic read
This was a really packed novella! It runs the gambit of emotions in a short period of time. A really great read. This is the first time reading this author for me, but now I intend to go back and read the rest of the series. This book was just fine as a standalone. In this story we are following the story of Zack and Nessa. Nessa has been wanting her friend Zack for a long time now. Zack is not your relationship guy, he's more of a different girl all of the time kind of guy. Nessa is fed up watching this and with being in the "friend zone" and finally she literally explodes and lets Zack know it. Zack though is hiding a huge secret and is ashamed of what it entails. Will Zack come clean? What will Nessa's reaction be? Will these two finally get their happy ending? This book was so well written, the plot was good and the characters are very well written, so that even though it's a novella you don't feel anything is missing. Overall, I hope that the characters had a little more of themselves in the whole story so I can say that this is something I fully love. Don’t take this the wrong way, I love Blue Streak. I love the setting, actually, I adore the setting. That’s the one part that I really love about this. I love the backdrop and while Nessa is real unique – Filipino roots! Yay! – Zach’s kind of people are becoming more common these days. I don’t know. I love this. But there’s somethign about Zach that doesn’t sit that well with me… that works for Nessa too. I love this novella in general and since this is really short, I recommend this to you people who don’t mind a little adorable romance when you have nothing to do.

Blue Streak is the 4th book in the Blue series and is written as a novella. Even though it's not too long, it packs in quite a lot of emotion and has a lovely friends to lovers storyline. Told in dual POV we find out how Zach was basically abused by an older woman for many years and considers himself not good enough for Nessa. Nessa on the other hand has been in love with Zach for over a year, and desperately wants to break through the 'friend barrier' . And of course, all it takes is for Zach to see Nessa with another man and his caveman instincts kick in. He's just got to let go of his sordid past. Easier said than done. Light and enjoyable read.

Can he keep the streak alive?

Great novella about finding and keeping love and growing up. Based in Lake Tahoe with a group of friends working at the Blue casino. I enjoyed this standalone novella so much I downloaded book one to start at the beginning. And now a bit about the story...

Nessa and Zach have been in the friend zone for over a year, even though they each want more. Can one drunken night alone in the hot tub change everything or will his past come back to haunt him?

Favorite passage: “I want you to be my future. I don’t deserve you, but I want you.”
