Predicting Jesus: A 6-Week Study of the Messianic Prophecies of Isaiah
Predicting Jesus is a six-week women’s Bible study from author and Bible teacher Kim Erickson on the book of Isaiah. It is a verse-by-verse study of Isaiah’s prophecies about Jesus and their fulfillment in the New Testament. It also includes contemporary application, weekly homework, reflection and prayer, and discussion questions for possible weekly small group interaction. Teaching on Isaiah is deeply personal to Kim as reading through it was transformative in the aftermath of her young son’s “Reading so many words that actually came true, some hundreds of years later, confirmed the character of God for me. Deep in my heart, I finally let go. I let go of the world’s effort to shame me into thinking it was all a sham. I let go of human logic. I let go of the paralysis of analysis. Kim Erickson
8 books5 followersKIM ERICKSON began following Christ after the death of her three-year-old son from strep throat in 2008. Her growing relationship with the Lord and her Bible saved her from the pit of grieving the loss of a child. During this time, she also developed a deep, abiding love for the Word of God. Kim's love of Scripture led her to develop a website and teaching blog to help other women fall in love with the Word of God, www.LoveMyWord.com. Kim also contributed to the book Hopelifter: Creative Ways to Spread Hope When Life Hurts (2013). She is an attorney who practiced business litigation for thirteen years before becoming a law professor. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education, and has returned to her passion for teaching. Kim lives in Florida with her husband and son.

The Moody Bible Studies for Women are generally similar to each other in lesson layout and study format. Plus, they share the same benefits of always being packed to overflowing with insightful and thought-provoking content that really helps us dive deeper into the Scriptures... But, each one is also individual and a unique blessing in its own way. “Predicting Jesus: A 6-Week Study of the Messianic Prophecies of Isaiah” was written by Kim Erickson, who brings to the table her unique skills of also being a lawyer. Using this knowledge of law and order, combined with a devastating and life-changing traumatic event in her family, Kim knew she needed to find proof for herself that God was real and His promises would come to pass… and this Bible study we hold in our hands today is the result of Kim’s quest!
In “Predicting Jesus”, we take an amazing journey through some of the key promises told by Isaiah about the coming of a Messiah, who would change not only history, but also each of our lives individually. Carefully building her case using indisputable proof, Kim walks us through a process of discovering (through asking and answering for ourselves) that there is SO MUCH infallible evidence that points towards God’s sovereignty, and that His mighty plans always come to pass just as He promises.
As we explore the prophecies declared in the book of Isaiah in each daily lesson, we simultaneously study their counterpart/fulfillment in the New Testament. Here we see that events truly came to happen exactly as God told Isaiah they would. We also learn about the differences between ‘near’ and ‘far’ prophecies, unpack some interesting historical context about the times the prophecies were written, and so, SO much more.

December 2, 2024I love this author's passion, but I wasn't getting anything out of this study. It just isn't where I am. I'm going to move on to something that is more where I am.

"Predicting Jesus" by Kim Erickson is a six-week Bible study on the messianic prophecies of Isaiah and is perfect for the few months leading up to the Christmas season. Erickson filled her study with lots of background information. Each week she presents a portion of the scripture, gives some explanations, assigns activities and asks "what's the point" and "how do we use it" questions.
I love Moody Publisher's Bible studies. Erickson, as all of the other Moody Bible study writers, teaches while allowing the student to participate and draw things out for themselves. Each study is an opportunity to learn more about God and incorporate scripture into our everyday life. Celebrate this Christmas season by learning about the prophecies that were fulfilled in Christ.

I always like bible studies from Moody Publishers and this one is no different. The book of Isaiah contains a lot of passages and prophecies so a bible study is practically a must if you want to unpack and understand everything in it.
This study is designed to take place over 6 weeks. Each of the weeks has a topic:
The Savior is Coming
The Savior Will Conquer Sin and Death
The Savior With Us
The Savior’s Strength and Love
The Savior’s Sacrifice
The Savior’s Everlasting Peace
Within each week an introduction to the subject is given. Then each day is separated so you know how much to study on which day. You start by being directed to read certain passages in your bible and then the passages are discussed. It keeps directing you to read a few passages, then think about or answer questions on that section and then it continues. On day 5 of each week, you Review, Reflect and Pray about what you have read so far.
At the end of each week is a group discussion section for if you are doing the study with a group whether in person or online. There is also a closing exercise at the end of the 6 weeks.

"In this, her third book, Kim Erickson once again demonstrates her deep love for the Lord and understanding of the Word. In "Predicting Jesus" she unpacks the "Jesus prophecies" in Isaiah in terms which even a new believer can understand. She relies not only on her personal study of the Bible and lets Scripture interpret Scripture, but she also shares with her readers what reliable scholars and commentators have written about some of the more difficult passages. I found this study of the Messianic Prophecies of Isaiah informative, enjoyable, and life changing."

If you desire to learn more about Jesus and the predictions surrounding His coming, this study is perfect for you! You will be drawn to not only look at prophecies about Jesus but also consider how knowing this changes our lives as well. I loved Kim's previous study and this study is no different! I highly recommend it!

Kim Erickson does a wonderful job of taking us through the book of Isaiah and how it points us towards the coming of Jesus. Some books of the Bible can be tricky to read, but Kim Erickson helps us navigate through the verses and provides understanding through this 6 week study. An incredible read that brings hope. Highly recommend!
